The name Taekwondo is derived from the Korean word ... Tae means foot , Kwon means fist and Do means way of. Taekwondo means "The way of the foot and fist".

It is the art of self defense that originated in Korea. It is recognized as one of the oldest forms of martial arts in the world, researching back over 2,000 years.

One of the earliest clues of Taekwondo's existence is a mural painted on the wall of a tomb that was built in the Korean kingdom of Goguryo, between 37 BC and 66 AD. The drawing shows two unarmed figures facing each other in a Taekwondo style stance.

Then the group of warriors called the Hwarang in Silla developed high fighting skills and at that time was call Tae Kyon.

Korea developed the skill more during World War II and founded a federation in 1973.

Your skill in taekwondo can be classified based on the color of the belt.

White Belt
- It represents purity. A test is not required for the white belt. But if you take the test, you will be given a white belt with yellow stripes.

Yellow belt
- It represents gold, which means truth. Test includes breaking the boards with both hands and feet.

Green belt
- It represents growth. The move from green to green with stripes requires around four (4) months of training before a test can be taken.

Blue belt
- It represents the sky or the ocean. By this rank, you could be able to defend yourself well.

Red belt
- It represents the brightness and energy of the sun. And is symbolic of the physical acts of the individual.

Black belt
- The highest rank achievable, the black belt test requires a lot of work. The black means all the colors combined.
