Now that you are born again
having been born again, not of []corruptible seed but []incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides []forever - 1 Peter 2:23 (NKJV)
The Bible says, we are born not of an incorruptible seed. Something incorruptible cannot perish.
We are born of the word of God. God's word gave birth to you. I know it's a bit too deep to understand. You are what the word of God says. It's always important to see ourselves through the eyes of God. When we see what the word of God says about who we are, we can always go back to the word when we forget.
When I received Christ, some years ago, I took discipleship classes. My pastor taught me the word of God. I was the only person that He taught for a month. We met at least three times in the week and I am so grateful to him for having taught me the word of God.
So the message about the Lord spread widely and had a powerful effect. - Acts 19:20 (NLT)
I was reading a book one day, I don't remember the name of the book, but I remember the scripture that was shared in that book. Of all the things I read, this one scripture ministered to me. I like what the author said :
When the word of God gains ascendancy in our lives, we are able to be freed from bondage and all kinds of evil. In the last chapter, I shared some of things we'd need to do in order to effectively study the Bible. One of the things I shared was writing down what we heard God say. You see, I don't remember the book I read, but this morning as I prayed, I came across the scripture above. I felt so good for attaching the above quote to it.
The only thing that makes the word have little or no effect is unbelief. When My pastor taught me the word of God, He'd teach it to me like he spoke to a huge crowd and yet, we'd be the only two. He'd invite me to his place. Sometimes we'd have a nice barbecue and talk about soccer and other times, he taught me the word of God. One of the best memories I have of my pastor is when He asked me to travel with him for a conference that was held in South Africa. We were on the road for over five hours. While he drove, he preached.
I sat in the front seat and his wonderful children sat in the back. I don't know how many times they awoke, but my pastor taught me the word of God. Today, we are not in the same country. But He teaches me the word of God, everyday. I mean everyday. As I write, I've already had my dosage. He's been a faithful shepherd to me. I have known him for so long but I only remember the last 7 years of my life with him. 7 years ago I gave my life to Christ, but I have only be able to grow because somebody has always been feeding me the word of God.
And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding. - Jeremiah 3:15 (KJV)
It takes humility to be fed the word of God. I understand why Jesus wants us to be like children. The Bible says, God would give us pastors according to His heart. Pastors feed us with knowledge and understanding. When you don't feed on the word, you'd have little knowledge and little understanding.
On the first day of the week, we gathered with the local believers to share in the Lord's Supper.[] Paul was preaching to them, and since he was leaving the next day, he kept talking until midnight. - Acts 20:7 (NLT)
Paul met some believers that had gathered. The next thing we see is that he preached to them.
"And now I entrust you to God and the message of his grace that is able to build you up and give you an inheritance with all those he has set apart for himself. - Acts 20:32 (NLT)
This is one of the most wonderful blessings you could ever receive. The word of God is a gift. Paul says, the word edifies. The word of God builds us up. Nothing but the word of God.
"Don't store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. - Mathew 6:19-20 (NLT)
Where is your treasure stored? The bible says, all things fade away except the word of God. ( See 1 Peter 2:24-25). Beauty fades. As young people we can spend our time trying to look beautiful and hot. We can spend our time chasing after money. Women. Men. And what ever prestigious things life might be able to offer. Again I'll ask, where is your treasure stored? It better be heaven!
We all need the word of God in order to grow spiritually. Without the word of God, no spiritual growth can happen.
Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. - Acts 18:24 (NKJV)
May it be said of us that we are mighty in the scriptures and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
