(Disclaimer: While this series may be called "Fixing" I am in no way claiming that this is a better product.)

     Steven Universe is one of Cartoon Networks most beloved, yet also controversial, shows. Tackling various dark themes such as genocide and taking a step forward in publicly displaying lgbt in childrens media. However one of the most controversial, and hated, aspects of the show is the character known as Pink Diamond.

Originally portrayed as Rose Quartz, she was shown to be a benevolent character who saw the value in all life. However, as time went on and more darker aspects of her nature began to appear, the fans mood towards her started to become sour as her worst features became the forefront. Soon enough, Pink Diamond was portrayed as a childish asshole whose the reason everyone's lives are miserable. But it doesn't make sense now does it?

Why would the writers and artists spend all this time, trying to portray Rose/Pink as a benevolent character whom everyone looked up to, only to turn her into this hatable character. This idea was planned from the very beginning and if I have to be honest, it could've been done a hell of a lot better. So that's why I'm here. Today let's fix Pink Diamond to make her a more likable character while making sense.

     Our story begins thousands of years ago, where the three Diamonds White, Blue, and Yellow are expanding the Gem empire. While conquest is relatively simple, White wishes to further the rate for a specific section of the Milky Way galaxy. Thus, she plans to create a new Diamond to act as her general. She shall be perfect like her, just as she plans for all her race to be. Setting on a small planet, the small area turned into the birthplace of Pink Diamond.

     Like any young creature, Pink was a rather selfish girl. Wanting to get attention and to play with the other Diamonds. Yellow sees her as an annoying brat, White couldn't be bothered, but Blue hears her pleas and gives her a small friend. A friend in her image, a young gem named Spinel. They would spend their time in Pinks garden, the same planet she was born on, playing with each other and forming a close bond. Almost like they were sisters. However, White would be taking Pink away soon enough to begin her training and plans for further galactic domination. Pink would always return to Spinel whenever she could, wanting to make sure her "sister" never felt lonely.

     Hundreds of years would pass and Pink would become a very powerful warrior. Leading charges herself with her general Jasper and assistant Pearl. Unlike most Diamonds who would rather not get involved, Pink's willingness to join the battle brought her close to the gems under her control. She would form bonds, friendships, sisterhoods. This would shape her to be a motherly and compassionate figure, further added thanks to her discovered ability that her tears can heal any individual.

    Pink wouldn't think much of the life she and her gems took, mainly because they would rather quickly finish the battles. She wouldn't know what would happen to them as Yellow and Blue's forces would come to further settle the planets and set them up to turn them into Colony planets. She would never know what was happening to the other species nor know of the constant extermination happening to them. Her outlook on life itself would change when she was tasked to take over a small backwater planet named "Earth."

      When she landed on an island, she was confused as to why there was no intelligent life. All there was was the peaceful sound of wind, the chirping of birds, and the variety of animals they saw. By the time she arrived, humanity was barely evolved from apes. While her forces told her it was to be an easy victory as no suitable life forms can stand up to them, Pink saw something else. She would find herself often staying in the same spot, sitting and just enjoying the aura nature gave off. When she wouldn't move for a time, animals would gather around her. However, when trying to pet a small rabbit, she accidentally snapped its neck. Seeing the once gentle creature limp sent tears to her eyes, tears that fell to the rabbit and brought it back to life. It was at that moment Pink realized...life is beautiful.

      She would leave earth, lying to the Diamonds about how the planet wasn't worth it. She would return to Spinel more often, growing their garden with thousands of roses to signify the beauty of life. The planets yet to turn to colonies would make Pink regret her actions, feeling horrible about having to slay such creatures. It wasn't their fault they fought back, she attacked them first. The true horror of the Diamonds work would come when White invites her for "something special."

     Standing next to the glowing woman, Pink would find herself staring down at a colony planet from a ship. Confused, she asks what the significance of this is. White knelt down to Pink, telling her that this was her doing. The planet Pink conquered, one that held docile yet territorial plant like monsters, was destroyed and turned into a colony planet. Pink's confusion slowly turned to one of horror. All that life, something she had begun to value dearly, wiped out thanks to her. White told her it was something she should take pride in, knowing it was just their evolution across the stars to become the perfect race she planned for them to be.

Pink would become even more horrified by her justifications. She would soon run off, confusing White. Pink scanned the database and fell to tears as she saw every single planet she conquered would be turned into a colony planet. Millions of species and billions of lives all lost because of her. Pearl would find her in her quarters, sobbing profusely. Haunted by the aspect of all those lives lost.

     Something would snap inside of Pink as she realized the truth of her existence. She was created to be a warrior, a conquerer of worlds. But now? She shall be a defender of worlds!

     She would stand as Pink Diamond, not Rose Quartz, and stage a rebellion against the Diamonds. Such an act infuriated White and Yellow, but left Blue Diamond heartbroken. She had been the closest to Pink.

     Thanks to her actions and charisma, Pink would lead her forces she gathered in a massive rebellion against the empire of the Gems. Spinel would be left out, as Pink did not want her sister to be put into this fight she had no part in. This conflict would last nearly a thousand years, Pink able to keep up as her tears would revive her allies. Despite this, Pink knew she was fighting a losing war. Staging one last attack on the gem capital, she went to fight against White herself. As her forces led by Jasper and Pearl fought the soldiers, Pink would stand against White and show just how powerful she had become. White struggled and was about to be slain by Pink if it wasn't for the intervention of Yellow Diamond. Now facing against two Diamonds, Pink would be on the losing side. In a last ditch effort, Pink unleashed her power and managed to finally knock them back in a powerful explosion. She would be unable to stand, but thanks to the quick intervention of Pearl, she would be able to escape. Jasper would have been captured and brainwashed by the diamonds later on.

    Most of Pinks forces would flee with Pink, knowing they did not have enough strength to defeat the empire. Many would be hunted down as traitors, White Diamond herself ordering a Galaxy wide manhunt for Pink Diamond. Unfortunately for Pink, who was wishing to gather Spinel when they retreated, she wasn't able to as hundreds of Yellow, Blue and White forces would surround the garden. Unable to get her sister, Pink orders her forces to retreat across the Galaxy to go into hiding. Pink would cast aside her Diamond identity, taking the form of Rose Quartz as the start of a new life for her. With no where else to go, Rose Quartz returned to the one planet that started her change, earth.

     When she arrived, she was surprised to see a humans walking around. She honestly didn't know what to make of humans compared to the very peaceful place earth was when she arrived the first time. But one man would change her mind, that being the struggling rockstar Greg Universe. While he wasn't the smartest nor the most capable even to the weakest of gems, Greg touched her heart the more she talked to him. He would show her cuisine, the history of earth, but more importantly, the thing that made her love humanity. Their individuality.

     Shown to her by a song Greg made for her, Rose found herself feeling the same emotion she felt all those thousands of years ago. Love. She and Greg would marry, much to the ire of Pearl. Knowing this, Rose would actually sit down with Pearl to talk about it. Explaining that while she did love Pearl, she saw her mainly as family not as a lover. The gem would be hurt by this, but understood Rose's wishes. Rose embraces Pearl, telling her that she will always love her. Unfortunately for Pearl, this love for Rose never left.

     Sadly, Rose would come to the realization that she was pregnant. She was scared, knowing she wouldn't be able to survive this process. The death of a life so another can be formed. This horrified her...but this would change to one of pride. She loved life and loved humanity, what better to do than for her final act is to bring both into the world. Creating tons of tapes for her son, she would explain how much life meant to her, but she would always keep her true past away from Greg and Steven. She never wanted them to get involved in this war she created.

    The fateful day would arrive, the day of Steven's birth. With a tearful goodbye to Greg, Pearl, Amethyst, and Garnet, Rose would give her final request to them.

"Keep him safe...safe from them...."

     Thus, Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz was no more. Her final gift to her Gems and the world being created as Steven Universe.
