7~ Logan ~7
Tw: So, so many mentions of murder and death, swearing, quick mention of eating disorders
They were driving over to Roman and Logan's house. "I don't understand," Virgil thought aloud, "I don't see why Logan would try to kill you but the evidence points to him. The familiar figure, the neat handwriting-"
"The fact that it was in pen, Logan refuses to write with pencils," Patton added.
"Then the fact that he knows where you work, he knows we live together, he's intelligent. But why would he do it?"
Patton thought about it, "I don't know, there's only one thing that comes to mind. Logan is polyamorous and last time I heard Roman wasn't sure if he was but he was willing to try it out. Logan confessed to me that he loved me and so did Roman. I didn't like them like that so I let them down, but gently. They seemed a little sad by it but they just decided that we could continue to be good friends. Maybe Logan never got over me and when he found out we were dating he got jealous. From what the note says and how it's written it looks like it was written out of anger. Maybe that's what the refusing part is, refusing that he can't date me."
Virgil took the letter out of the glove box and reread it. How dare you fucking do this! Could mean how dare they date each other and not have Patton date him. You are the reason! Maybe that's directed at Virgil, and Virgil is the reason why Patton isn't his in his eyes. Fuck humanity and honesty and FUCK love! Fuck honesty because he lied about being over Patton, fuck humanity could be using the second definition so fuck sympathy because he killed Virgil's lover which caused him extreme pain, fuck love because love didn't work out for Logan. "It all fits," Virgil said, "I think maybe Logan did kill you."
Patton frowned, "I hate how much it lines up, I really want to believe that he wouldn't kill me. We were close friends." They made it to the medium sized house that Patton knew to be Logan's address. "Okay, let's go see them." They slowly walked up the driveway. It felt wrong. Going to their friend's house to accuse them of murder. Patton took a deep breath and slowly let it go before knocking. There was shuffling but no one answered. Patton knocked again, louder this time. This time there was no noise.
"Maybe they aren't home?"
Patton shook his head and pointed the cars in the driveway, "Their cars are here, they're both home. Stay here." Patton walked back to the car and grabbed something out of the glovebox then came back with a key. He pushed it into the lock and turned it. They opened the door and entered the house.
"What the fuck," Roman's broken voice echoed in the hall when he heard the front door opened. He pushed Chocolate, the dog who he adopted from Patton and Virgil, off of him and stood up from the couch, "You can't come in he-" Roman's eyes widened at his two friends, who were thought to be dead. He looked between them in shock then his expression hardened, "What kind of sick joke is this? Do you two find joy by causing people more pain by pretending to be their dead friends?"
"What no! It's us Roman, Virgil and Patton!" Patton reassured.
"No you're not," Roman growled, "I was at their funeral, I saw their bodies in those caskets! It's real fucked up for you to do this, and to wear the same clothes as they were buried in? Assholes!"
"Roman I promise it's us. I'm Sewer emo, you're Roman the Prissy Prince!"
Roman crossed his arms, "If it's really you then prove it."
"Okay I'll go first," Virgil said, "I'm anorexic and bulimic which I had Logan tell you about for me. You call me sewer emo because I joked about throwing myself into my one true home, the sewer. I'm going to take over the world and make it legal to bully you." Roman eased up, all of that was right and things that only Virgil, Patton, Logan and himself would know.
"You kept denying that you were bi until you met Logan and then you were ready to accept yourself because you found him so cute that you couldn't deny yourself anymore. I once came over here at three am because I was crying over snakes and how they don't have legs after watching Steven Universe. You don't let Logan know what his name in your phone his because he'd be embarrassed by it and would demand that you change it." Roman let his guard down all the way, those were all things that only he and Patton knew about, and also now Virgil.
"It is you, but- how?" Roman asked, "You were dead."
"That's complicated," Virgil responded.
"Long story short, there is god, and he's gay," Patton explained.
"Oh, interesting."
"So where's Logan?" Patton asked.
"He's upstairs crying into Bear's fur again," Roman answered. Then the water turned on. "And it looks like he's crying in the shower again." Patton frowned at hearing the state the typically calm man was in. "I'll go get him." Roman headed upstairs. He opened the bedroom door, letting out Bear who sprinted towards her dads. Her entire body was wagging and she was too excited to stay still and let them pet her. The water was turned off and they could hear Logan and Roman talking back and forth.
"I don't want to see anyone!" Logan sobbed as Roman tried to pull him downstairs.
"Logan please listen to me."
"No!" Logan yelled out, "I don't know how you're so okay right now!" Logan tried to struggle out of his boyfriend's hold, "I don't want anyone to see me like this!" He was most likely referring to the fact the he was only wearing some sweatpants Roman forced him to put on and how it was very obvious that he was crying. Roman was able to turn Logan around so he could see the two men sitting and the base of the stairs. Logan froze his movements, "W-what?"
"We're alive."
Logan took off down the stairs. "I am so glad that you two are alive! It made me realize how little I told you two that you were important to me and I regret that so much. Patton even though I despise your jokes I still appreciate that you're trying to make people around you happy. Virgil, you are so important, not only to Patton but to me as well." Logan pulled the two into a hug, which was strange coming from the man who claimed to hate them.
"Whoa, you initiated a hug, what happened to you while we were gone?" Patton questioned.
Logan pulled away and adjusted his glasses, "I am not used to feeling such grief and I didn't pay attention to how much I need to have you two in my life. I felt very guilty when I realized how little I expressed my care and I thought maybe you two died without knowing how important you are to me."
"Aw that's really sweet," Patton cooed, now feeling guilty that he would think his friend killed him. That was until he remembered the evidence. "Lo, do you remember when you asked me to join in on your relationship?"
Logan felt hesitant to answer, "...Yes."
"Do you still love me like that?"
"I-I don't believe so. I love you but I believe it is more platonic now. Why are you asking?"
"I- uhm uh," Patton tried to think of something to say instead of saying he's thinking Logan killed him.
"Have you developed romantic feelings for Roman and I and are wishing to form a polyamorous relationship?"
"No, I," Patton groaned at his loss for words, "I can't really explain to you why I asked but it has to do with my death."
"You see we're not alive I guess," Virgil explained, "There's a god and we were able to be sent back but we have to complete a task. If we don't do it in time then we go back to being dead."
Logan processed the information, "What's the task?"
Patton bit his lip, he didn't want his friend to know that they were thinking that he killed him, "We can't tell you."
Logan gave a questioning look, "Alright, is there anyway we can help?"
Patton hummed, He felt the letter he had stuffed into his pocket and pulled it out, "Do you recognize this handwriting?"
Logan held the letter and Roman looked over his shoulder. "It kinda looks like Logan's writing when he's stressed or angry," Roman answered. "But what does this even mean?"
Logan's writing when he's stressed or angry. Virgil scratched the back of his head, "We don't know yet, but we need to find the person that wrote it."
Logan handed it back, "Good luck with that, it seems rushed and as if the person wasn't in a good state of mind when it was written. That could possible not be their usual handwriting."
Patton nodded, he was even more convinced that it was Logan. But if he was being honest about not loving him anymore, than why did he do it?
