Chapter 37
Gauri stared at Riddhima's computer for quite awhile. Her eyes were fixated on the designs that this woman shamelessly stole from a young student. Did she not have any respect for the field? To know that someone like Riddhima, a high class woman graduating from a reputable university and earning a high praising degree in fashion, only to resort to thievery made her laugh. It really does seem that too much money could be thy mortal enemy. Having rich parents buying your way to a bright future had surely made this woman not only arrogant but down right spiteful. The more Gauri thought about the events last night the more she was sure that this woman needed to be taught a lesson. So without even copying anything from Riddhima's computer Gauri took her hand off the mouse and waited till the screen went black.
As she calmly made her way to the door Gauri took one last look at Riddhima's dress that was draped on the mannequin. "I will let you fly as high as you can so that when the time comes...nothing can break your fall."
All the while Omkara could not take his eyes off his own computer as he stares at his beloved woman. "Her eyes are so beautiful....especially when she is angry. Look Khanna...have you ever seen anything so divine? Her sharp gaze....that focus...that thirst that needs to be quenched."
Khanna couldn't help but shudder at his Boss's words. "Yea..if looks could kill that would be it." Thankfully he kept that to himself because the man grinning from ear to ear while eating his ginger chicken was scarier then when he was not in love. Just thinking about the lengths his Boss would you to protect Ms. Sharma was down right scary and now he could only feel sorry for the Rahejas. They can only blame their wicked daughter for what's to come.
"Khanna...why are you still standing there in a daze? Don't you have information to gather?"
That chilly voice did not match that smile his Boss had on his face at all. At this moment even the ginger chicken had a better fate then he had. Feeling the hairs on the back of his neck stand up due to his Boss's stern gaze Khanna darted out of the door.
Omkara continued to watch Gauri as she returned to the fabric room to continue working on her dress. He was very curious what kind of plans she had in store for Riddhima but for this matter he would let her do as she wished. The last thing he wanted to do was to hinder her growth by using his power. He wanted her to only see him as Omkara Oberoi; a man that loves her and nothing more. The life he wanted with Gauri was simple. He wanted to be able to talk to her, hold her, love her and share his everything with her. However, the fear that his status could hinder all of those desires only made him furrow his brows in worry. Would his chances have been better if he was just an average man? Maybe. But then that would not have been him. He wanted her to love him for who he is and the feeling of wanting to just run to her now to reveal it all was very tempting.
Omkara got up from his seat and started t head towards the fabric room where Gauri was busy sewing the bottom half of her dress. She was so focused on the embroidery at the hem of the dress that she didn't even realize that someone was in the room with her until she saw a shadowy figure on the floor.
"Do you plan to stand there silently or did you need something?"
Gauri did not even bother to turn around to see who was standing behind her because she had assumed that it had to be either Riddhima or Ajay. So she continued to focus on the gold thread she was working with.
"I came to see how far you have gotten."
He could clearly see her back stiffen upon his presence and the corner of his lips formed a small grin as he waited for her to turn around.
Gauri's hand froze as that voice was not that of Ajay or Riddhima. Her heart was beating very rapidly as she slowly stood up and turned around.
"B..Boss."
He had his hands in his black pant's pocket as he stood there staring at her. Gauri couldn't help but stare at his crisp deep blue button shirt because the collar itself was black with silver embroidery of leaves.
"Do I make you nervous Ms. Sharma?"
His voice forced her to finally look at his face.
"No Boss...It was just unexpected. Startled."
"Good. I wouldn't want my employees to be afraid of me for no reason."
"So does that mean they should only be afraid of him if there was a reason?" Gauri immediately thought to herself.
"So...how is the dress coming along? The commercial shoot is this Friday. Do you think you would be done by then?"
"If I tell you yes would you not question what goes on before the commercial shoot?"
She could see the confusion in his eyes but she didn't really know how to explain it without revealing her plan but at the same time she didn't want to disappoint her boss. Her nervousness was becoming heavy and the urge to just divulge Riddhima's plagiarism ways about to spill from her mouth.
"I do not care for what goes on until the time of the shoot. If you can tell me now that this is the dress that will be in the commercial Friday then that is enough."
"Yes. My dress will be the one in that commercial."
When she saw his feet move her eyes widen with every step he took towards her but her body refused to move. Her fists started to clench together as the space between them was getting smaller and smaller. She cursed at herself for not looking away nor moving. She felt that there was some kind of unknown force trapping her and she was unable to break away from it's hold. With only inches of air separating them Gauri had to lift up her head to continue to look at her Boss who was gazing down at her.
"Ms. Sharma...if you don't step aside how will I take a look at your progress?"
Her cheeks immediately felt like it was on fire as she clumsily moved to the side to make way for her Boss. The way he was staring at her creation made her extremely anxious. Did he like it? He had to because he chose this design but was he happy with her skill to bring it to life? The minutes gone was agonizing as her Boss remained silent as he observed every detail that she had done so far. When she saw him use his fingers to touch her embroidery her heart stopped.
"Is...something wrong Boss?"
"Nothing. Your embroidery work is amazing. Not a loose strand in sight."
"So that's why he was touching it."
"Thank you Boss."
"But....I feel you are not putting your best forward. Is there a reason for that?"
"Yes."
Once again her Boss was walking towards her and was now towering over her.
"Well if this is not your best work then I can't wait to see the "real" dress."
He could see the shock in her eyes as he stared down at her. She looked like a deer caught in the headlights.
"Boss...you can tell?"
She knew his answer the moment the corners of his lips curved up into an arrogant smile.
"Like I said before. I do not care for other things as long as the dress that I want is ready by Friday Ms. Sharma."
"It will."
When she saw him bend down slightly to reach the side of her face her body froze once again. The deep warm voice against her ear made her lips slightly quiver.
"Play smart...Ms. Sharma."
With his sudden words and the feeling of his warm breath still lingering close to her face Gauri's nervous eyes started to relax.
"I will...Boss."
"Alright...I will let you continue on your work."
Seeing him slowly leave the fabric room Gauri's eyes became sharper as she stared at her Boss's back.
"Was that a faint smell of ginger?"
The impulse to call out "Dilpreet" was stopped when she saw Ajay bumping into their Boss.
Ajay who had been on edge after returning from the HR department this morning wanted to ask Gauri if she had any idea why the entire HR staff was fired. Usually with something this big he would be the first one to know. He was sure it had to be related to him finding out Gauri's address because it was just too coincidental. So when he didn't see her in the Cantina for lunch he made his way to the fabric room but unfortunately he was too rushed that he bumped into the one person he shouldn't.
"Boss! I'm sorry."
Omkara took a couple steps back until he was right in Gauri's doorway.
"Why are you in such a hurry?"
"Ah...I wanted to check on Gauri that's all."
"Oh? Why would you need to check on her? Does the work environment pose as a danger to Ms. Sharma? You know I do not condone any type of harassment. So if something is going on then tell me now."
"No...that's not what I meant Boss. It's just that the entire HR department was let go so I wanted to reassure Gauri that there had to be a reason for such action. With her being new I didn't want her to feel that she might be let go without notice."
Omkara's eyes darken and his body exude an aura that made Ajay regret his words immediately.
"Without notice? Would Oberoi Fashion do anything without reason? Or is it that you want to ask me the reason I had them let go?"
Without a doubt his Boss's eyes were taunting him. "Did he know what he had done?" Ajay was terrified of losing his job like the HR department and the last thing he needed to be on his Boss's radar.
"No Boss. I trust there was a valid reason."
Omkara slowly walked towards Ajay who was feeling the grim mood between them.
Seeing Ajay fear for his life made Omkara quite happy as he stood beside the buffoon to give him another shock.
"To send everyone a reminder that my policies are to be followed...even after working hours. Replacing an entire department even though it was only the fault of one should do the trick don't you think?"
He felt like someone had just knocked the wind out of him. This had to be warning directed at him but why didn't the Boss just fire him? Or maybe he was just overthinking it? Ajay tried to read his Boss's expression but the man displayed no emotion.
"Since you have gotten your answer there is no need to bother Ms. Sharma."
Ajay found himself looking towards Gauri who was busy working on her design to even notice silent call for help.
"Yes..Boss...Thank you."
Before returning to his own office Omkara turned around to look at Ajay once again.
"If anyone is curious to what happen to the HR department I expect you to relay to them my exact words."
"Y...Yes..Boss."
When she finally felt that she was truly alone Gauri couldn't shake that sudden smell of ginger.
"It can't be...."
