Chapter Three
Theo's POV
I have a busy day planned. Two meetings with other Alphas, a training session with my warriors, and a dinner with another Alpha.
This was the part I hated about being an Alpha, especially one that has a pack as powerful as mine. Everyone wants to be your friend until they're your enemy.
I sat in my office, doing some paperwork when I heard a knock on the door and my beta, Alex walk inside.
"Theo, remember you have a meeting in an hour." He said, slumping into the chair in front of my desk, propping his feet up onto my desk.
"Yes, I remember Alex." I said, rolling my eyes. Although he was a pain in my ass, he was my best friend, my family. MY only family that I have.
"You seem more agitated than usual today. What's got your big boy panties in a knot?" Alex says, smirking at me.
"I just have a lot to do today. So many Alphas that want a piece of my pack because they cannot defend their own. I feel like something bad is going to happen. The rogues are attacking more, I feel something big is out there but I do not know what." I said, rubbing my hands on my face in frustration.
I had a sick feeling in my stomach that I have never had before. I saw Alex's eyes change from mischievous to worry.
"I believe in you. If something happens then we are in it together." ALex says, putting his feet on the ground. "I won't lie and say I haven't been feeling the same. Maybe we should recruit more fighters and beef up patrol for a little." Alex said.
He was the best beta I have ever met. He was fierce and smart and used thoughts instead of actions. I am the opposite, going head first without giving it a thought. That is why were were such a good team and why our pack was as strong as it is.
We also had great members that took care of eachother. I was very proud of my pack and all the members in it. That is why it is so hard for me to trust anyone. If I let someone inside and they hurt my pack, I would never forgive myself.
Alpha rogues are attacking in north trail. Please send help.
Someone mind-linked me, I could feel the fear that came off of her. I knew exactly who it was, Avery, and though she was a good fighter she would not be able to defend against many rogues.
I jumped up, along with my beta.
"Get the fighters. I'm going to her." I ordered me. He nodded to me and we ran off.
I got to the woods, running through and hearing screams come from ahead.
I shifted and went to the five men that were attacking Avery and another unknown female. I jumped on one of the men, fighting him off. I bit into his neck, ripping out his throat as blood sprayed everywhere.
The fighters came and we attacked the rogues, leaving one to be put into the cells for questioning.
I turned around and the two girls that stood in front of me. One of my pack members, Avery was standing protectively in front of another girl. One that I did not recognize as she was not apart of my pack.
"Are you okay?" I asked Avery, making sure that these rogues did not injure her.
"Yes Alpha, thank you for saving us. There were way too many for me to fight off and Emma here is not a trained fighter." Avery looked behind her to Emma.
Emma raised her head at me, her fear filled brown eyes looked around until they met mine.
My body felt as though I was struck by lightning, almost knocking me to my knees. I knew exactly what this meant and I didn't like the words that came from my wolf.
'Mate'
I saw her eyes fill with confusion and then a hint of happiness. But, I just turned around and walked away from her.
I could not just give her my trust when I didn't even know her. I could not let her in and distract me as she destroys my pack. I could not let my guard down and let her in.
"Theo!" Alex shouted and ran up beside me. "What was that about? Are you okay?"
"Just drop it." I said, picking up my speed.
He speed up beside me, not listening to me.
"You are not getting away that fucking easy. Was that your mate? The little, cute brunette?"
I growled in frustration as he continued to interrogate me with his questions.
"Alex, I said drop it. I have a meeting to get to and I'm already angry enough as it is. I don't need your damn questions fogging up my head." I said, running away from him and headed toward the pack house.
I heard a mumbling 'stupid fucking idiot' from Alex that made me roll my eyes.
Emma's POV
I was left standing there beside Avery as the Alpha ran off and the fighters cleaned up the bodies.
"Are you okay?" Avery said, shaking my shoulders to get my attention. I snapped out of my daze to look her in the eyes, as they filled with worry.
"I just want to go home please." I said to Avery, looking down at my hands to distract myself from crying.
"Of course."
After driving back to my house I headed upstairs to my bedroom. I replayed the scene over and over again in my head.
I flopped down on my bed as I heard a buzz from my cell phone.
Hope you are home safe. Also, what the fuck just happened with my Alpha? Xoxo
Avery
I groaned into my pillow.
I didn't know how to answer because I didn't know what happened either. All I knew was that Alpha Theo was my mate and that he ran away from me. Was I that ugly? Or was it because I couldn't fight?
My parents would never let me fight as I was a lady and ladies do not fight. I was just here to look pretty and to make sure that I made them look good. They controlled every aspect of my life and held me captive in this house.
I was not to mess up. I was not cause a scene. I was not to let them down.
I hear my phone ringing and I pick it up and answer it.
"Hi Avery."
"Girl...I'm so sorry, but it's killing me to know. Is Alpha Theo your mate? I saw the look you two exchanged and I would know that look from anywhere."
"I think so..."
I hear Avery and her mate squealing in excitement. But, it was not exciting, it was tragic.
"Why did he run away though? Does he hate me already?" I ask my new friend. "He did not seem as though he wants a mate."
"He is an idiot. Maybe he just needs more time. He really isn't the most affectionate man. He loves his pack, but he has always been very...stubborn." Avery said, sighing as she tried to think of what to say next. "Maybe you should stay her for a few days, to get used to the pack and maybe get close to him."
I bit my lip as to think about it. It sounded good in theory, but I was so scared. I could use a break from my house and maybe it will work out but I guess I can't know until I try.
But what if it did not work and he rejected me as his mate. Where was I supposed to go? I did not want to live with my parents forever, confined in this pack.
That is why I needed to at least try.
"Okay, I think that would be okay." I saw, immediately regretting my decision.
"Yay! Let me go get the guest room ready. You can come today whenever you are ready and I inform the beta. We are so excited to have you here...Luna." She said and hung up before I could argue back.
I sighed and started to get a bag ready for a few days. After getting everything ready I walked downstairs to find my parents to inform them. I found them in the kitchen, sipping on tea together.
"Hey, mom and dad. I am going to stay with my friend for a few days." I told them.
"For what reason, may I ask?" My dad spoke, crossing his arms if I was a teenager, but in fact I was an adult and can do what I want.
"To just spend time with my new friends."
"You found your mate?" My mom asked.
"I don't know."
"How do you not know? He does not want you? Maybe you should leave him alone if he doesn't want you dear. You shouldn't smother him and annoy him and maybe he will change his mind." My mom says. "Maybe I could hook you with Mary's son. He is very handsome and has a good rank as a fighter."
"I am leaving whether you agree or not and I am not being hooked up by some strange man. MY mate is an Alpha anyways that is as high ranking as you get."
I turned around and walked out the door. Like never before I had a fire within me to disobey my parents and it felt good.
