Chapter 13: Monday, Morning
Toast was quiet that morning as he got ready for school. At least, that's what he made it seem like he was busy doing. He had his backpack with him, and was getting ready for the day as normal, but he had no plans of making it to school today.
While his mom was distracted with something, he snuck back up the stairs and into his parents' room. He knew where they had put his phone after taking it, and that's what he went to find, sneaking it out of the room and hurrying back down the stairs. He pretended that he'd forgotten one of his books.
Soon, he was out the door and heading off in the direction of school, getting far enough away from his house that his mom wouldn't see him slipping his phone out of his pocket. Unlocking it, he looked around, shooting a text to Ghost once he made sure he wasn't going to be caught, asking him to meet up with Toast at the skate park.
It wasn't long until he received a reply.
Aren't you grounded? Toast sighed; of course that's all he'd say.
Yes. Will you meet me?
Toast started walking the second Ghost agreed, heading towards the park and slipping his phone back into his pocket. It didn't take him long to get there, and it appeared that Ghost was already there.
"Glad you agreed to that, I didn't feel like going to class today." Toast chuckled, and Ghost whirled around to face him.
"Really now? I remember last time we did this, you barely agreed to skipping. What made you wanna break the rules again?" Ghost raised an eyebrow, and Toast smiled, cheeks growing warm.
"Well.. it's partly out of spite for my parents." He laughed. "Also.. because I realized something." He shrugged.
"And what'd ya realize?" Ghost prompted further, and Toast looked down.
"Well.. I realize that this is what makes me happy. Spending time with the only friend I've ever had." He glanced back up at Ghost, who was grinning brightly, almost looking proud.
"Only friend you've ever had?" Ghost teased. "How sad." Toast pushed him, and Ghost laughed, holding his hands up in surrender.
"Alright, I'm kidding." He smiled wider. "I'm happy you said that, though." The both of them stared at each other for a moment, Ghost seemed to be moving closer to him.
Toast cleared his throat. "Anyways.. I was thinking, we should do something." He laughed awkwardly. Ghost looked disappointed. Toast wasn't sure why.
"Like, what kind of something?" Ghost raised an eyebrow.
"Well.. I was thinking. Maybe I wouldn't mind pulling a prank." He chuckled. "I mean, I've never done it before so who knows?"
Any sign of disappointment was immediately gone as soon as Toast finished talking, he saw Ghost's eyes light up mischievously. "Are you serious? Okay okay, I have the perfect prank! And it might seem like we're starting pretty big, but hey. Your first prank has gotta be a memorable one. Come on, we gotta get some supplies first!"
It's been 23 hours so almost a day
I decided not to wait till tomorrow tho. I just really wanted to upload lol. It's kind of sad though! As of now I've written all the way up to chapter 15. This means I get to write three more chapters, the epilogue, and then I'm finished with the book! I don't want it to be over!!!
Once I have completed writing this one though, I might start updating two chapters a day to get it up faster but I might not. For one I don't wanna put too much out in too little time, and I also want to use the time in between having this story out and finished to finish the outline for Evil Within, that way I can start writing that and updating on a schedule.
Has it been nice that I've started updating so often though? Do you think I should try and keep up with doing it like this in my next book, with just maybe a little longer between updates, so instead of a day maybe four days like I originally planned in this one? Let me know what you think, but it really just depends on how much time I have and how long it'll take to write those chapters, since I hope that they're longer than the ones in here.
Anyways, I hope that you've enjoyed this chapter. I must go and sleep for now. Bye!-Bob
