Chapter 4: A Prince's Longing

Aracel Mikaelson Belongs to SkullPearlQueen

At the Royal Palace
The crowned prince of Atlas Charles (Charlie) Charme stood over the balcony overlooking the kingdom of Atlas. the Castle was at the very top of the large snowy hill that Atlas was built on. The kingdom was built on the snowy hill but the hill wasn't as tall as the mountains that were behind the castle.

Charlie's large vacation villa was located in those mountains. Charlie remembered when he and Monica used to go there to ski but that was a very long time ago before he realized what kind of person Monica was and now he wanted nothing to do with her let alone continue on with their arranged marriage.

Charlie thought of Ella. The girl that Adrianna had adopted. Apparently she once was her servant but Jaques had convinced Adrianna to use the girl's beauty to her advantage. So Adrianna forced Ella into modeling and adopted her as her daughter.

Adrianna gained almost millions after she had forced the girl into a modeling career. Ella had told Charlie how much she hated modeling and how she felt trapped in atlas. Ella often talked about traveling around the world and experiencing new things.

Ella had told Charlie she was actually bought by Adrianna as a slave from Mistral. However while Charlie wanted to believe Ella he couldn't find the evidence of any documents showing that Adrianna had purchased a slave in mistral.

Charlie knew that his Aunt Adrianna was pretty good at hiding things. Ella had mentioned that if she didn't continue modeling that she'd be forced to go back to being her servant.

Charlie tried to expose his aunt and even Jaques for their supposed schemes. He had heard rumors that Adrianna and even Jaques had purchased human and Faunus slaves back in Mistral, Vacuo, and even Mantle's criminal underground.

Any information Charlie tried to find about the mysterious Ella or about Adrianna and Jacques participating in the slave trade, lead him to a dead end.

Charlie had come to find out that Ella wasn't even the girl's real name and Adrianna refused to tell him anything about "Ella". Even his Uncle James Ironwood refused to tell him more about Ella. In fact Ironwood claimed that he's not even sure where the girl was now.

The only thing Charlie had left to remember Ella by was her red high heel made entirely out of glass. The shoe molded perfectly to the girl's foot so if he could find who fit the shoe, then he would find Ella.

Thousands of girls tried on the shoe but none of them fit into it. Charlie looked over at the shoe which was safely kept in a glass case. Charlie remembered how beautiful Ella was. Her hair was shiny and was the color of ash. Her hair long and reached to her waist in long natural spiral curls. Her hair was silky and soft.

Ella had come to ball and her hair was very short and looked like it had been hacked off without care but she was still beautiful nonetheless. Her eyes were a beautiful shade of amber. She had a cute hourglass figure. She was tall and had long legs. Her beauty wasn't the only thing that Charlie liked about her.

He also loved her smile. He loved how she smiled and how she made him forget about the painful memories of his mother's death. He loved how her eyes would light up when she talked about traveling around the world and seeing new places.

He loved how Ella made him laugh. While she could be extremely blunt at times she was honest. She was also very kind and smart. She also had a short fuse and had a fiery temper. She could be feisty at times.

He loved how she could be elegant one minute and clumsy the next. She would frequently visit him on his balcony and he would come to her balcony. They often visited each other for the three years that she was there. He had met her when she was twelve and he was fifteen.

He had seen her walking alone outside. It was the third year anniversary of his mother's death. It hadn't been a great day. He and Ugine had gotten into a big argument and weren't talking and his other best friend Aracel Mikaelsn was on vacation in Vale away from the cold weather.

Charlie saw Ella and he thought he had seen a ghost. For a minute he thought he had seen his mother but the girl only resembled his mother. Charlie had called out to her.

He was curious he had never seen the girl around before. He asked her to climb up the balcony and he helped her up. The two talked for what seemed like hours. Since then for the last three years Ella would visit Charlie and Charlie did the same and would visit Ella on her balcony.

Ella lived in Ironwood's mansion on the palace grounds so they saw each other every night for the last three years until Charlie had gotten the nerve to ask her out to the ball. However shortly after he sent her the invitation to the ball that was in a couple of months, she stopped seeing him. He didn't see her on the balcony anymore.

He didn't see her for a few months. He got so worried that he climbed on her balcony and peeked into the double doors to check on her. He didn't see her there. In fact her room looked empty and bare. No more decorations on the walls and no more red gowns in the closet.

Then the next day he finally saw her from the balcony sweeping the halls. She didn't quite look the same. She wearing brown rags, and a red bandanna holding back short and choppy black curls that looked rather unruly.

Ella was wearing a white apron and looked very thin. She had small patches of dirt on her face. She saw him looking at her and she quickly ran into another room and hid from him.

Charlie started to worry about her. He snuck into the mansion to see her and he found her sleeping in the basement an old cot with with thin dirt covered sheets and covered in welts and bruises. She didn't look very happy to see him and she looked scared that he was here.

Charlie had tried to calm her down and he told her to find a way to sneak into the ball and see him. Sure enough she had come wearing a pretty lacy red ball gown. Her short hair was in messy curls that stuck out in places but he didn't care he was extremely happy to see her.

Charlie had asked her what had happened to her and she explained what had happened. How Adrianna made her quit her modeling contract and forced her back into a life of servitude.

He didn't see her for long. Adrianna had spotted them and Ella had run off. He tried to chase her down. He wanted to help her. She left behind a red glass high heel behind on the palace steps. That the was last time Charlie ever saw her.

Charlie kept looking for her but he was never able to find her. Jenni looked for her too but her search had also came up short. Charlie stared at the glass case. Every time he saw the glass heel he thought of Ella and he really hoped that she was okay and that she was safe.

"Charlie-kins, I'm suprised you haven't given up on that girl yet!"

Charlie turned to see his childhood friend Aracel Mikaelson standing in the doorway. Charlie looked surprised to see her. She must've finally returned home after her long mission with her teammates.

Aracel was extremely attractive. She's changed since she left for beacon. She got even more attractive which Charlie didn't think was possible. Her straight and shiny straight pink hair reached down to her waists and she was wearing a casual black dress with red accents. A dress she had no doubt designed it herself.

"Aracel! You're back!"

Said Charlie eagerly.

He ran over and gave her a hug.

"Don't make such a huge fuss. I wasn't gone for that long."

Said Aracel returning the hug.

"I didn't think you'd be back so soon."

Charlie released Aracel from the hug and she rested her hand on the glass case containing the red glass high heel.

"Ironwood insisted that I come and bring my teammates. He wants us to help him with some secret project. You know anything about it?"

She asked tapping her freshly painted finger nails on the glass.

Knowing Aracel, charlie figured that she had gotten a manicure before she came to see him. Aracel never went anywhere unless she had assembled the perfect look. Though because of this and her height only standing at 5'2 people often underestimated the pinkette, which is one of the biggest mistakes someone could make. Her team a long with two other teams had advanced to the finals at the Vital Festival. She was quite the fighter. She was as tough as nails. Her career choice as a huntress was something Regina definitely did not approve of but Aracel was never one to follow the rules. She was always rebellious and brave. If someone told her to do something she always wanted to do the opposite.

"Still thinking about the mystery girl Charlie Kins?"

Charlie nodded and his best friend let out a sigh.

"She could be dead-"

"I don't think she's dead."

Said Charlie firmly.

Aracel's purple hues made contact with his dark chocolate brown ones.

"Charlie-kins you know I love your drive and determination. You know I support you but you're driving yourself mad trying to find this girl. Aren't you tired of looking at feet?"

Asked Aracel.

"No but Rachel is. She's made that abundantly clear."

Said Charlie.

Rachel Erland is the youngest advisor to the king and the first Faunus and female advisor in Atlesian history. She was highly respected and loved amongst other nobles despite being a Faunus. Rachel like ugine's Aunt and Rodger Cliffton, were highly respected despite being Faunus. Like Aracel Rachel was short and she was actually shorter than the pinkette and was barely five feet tall but graduated from atlas academy at the top of her class and was praised by Ironwood for her fighting skills. She was also Gabriel's royal messenger and would deliver news and letters to the other council members. She also helped Charlie when he needed it and this included trying to find the girl that fit the glass high heel. She often complained about how she was tired of looking at feet all day long.

"You don't even know her real name or where in Mistral she's even from. Anima is huge and you've spent two years trying to find her and you haven't yet."

Aracel pointed out.

"That doesn't mean I won't and I don't want to marry Monica."

"I'm not saying you should. In fact don't. I don't want to see that girl again if I can help it. You'll have to accept my mother's offer-"

"I'm not doing that."

Said Charlie firmly.

Aracel looked into Aracel's purple eyes and she sighed.

"I'm not letting you marry that awful wench."

Said Aracel firmly.

If there was anyone Aracel despised more than Jaques it was Monica. Aracel and Monica were like oil and water.

Monica didn't like how close Charlie was with Aracel so she tried to split up their friendship and when that didn't work Monica and Aracel got in a physical fight which resulted in Monica getting a broken nose and a restraining order from the court to stay away from Aracel and the mikaelson family.

After that Charlie decided enough was enough. He broke off their engagement and he told her that he never wanted to see her again.

Due the restraining order, Monica was to stay away from Aracel and was only allowed inside the palace for royal functions and even then she wasn't allowed to be near Aracel. However this didn't stop her from frequently trying to visit Charlie.

Charlie wanted nothing to do with her. However Gabriel had told Charlie that if he didn't accept another arranged marriage or if he didn't find Ella by his coronation date than he would have to marry Monica.

Charlie knew his father was getting old and that since his older brother Archie shirked his responsibilities and his other older brother Chanler is now involved in Mantle's criminal underground, Charlie was now supposed to become king. Charlie's coronation was a month away and he still hasn't found Ella yet.

If he didn't want to marry Monica than he would have to except Regina Mikaelson's offer. He would have to marry Aracel. As much as he liked Aracel he wasn't in love with her and he didn't want to force Aracel to give up her dreams of becoming a fashion designer and owning her own fashion company instead of her mother's company. She wanted her own company. Her own stores instead of her mother just featuring Aracel's creations in her stores all across atlas.

"It's not fair to you!"

"Life isn't fair Charlie."

Life isn't fair. Charlie heard that phrase more than he could count. Life wasn't fair. He never liked the phrase but he couldn't deny that it was true. The people of Mantle were forced to eat scraps to get by while the people of atlas thrived. Ella being abused and possibly sold into a life of slavery, at the hands of his horrible aunt and that wasn't fair.

Charlie's mother was a wonderful person who unified mistral and atlas, she was a good mother, a good wife to his father, and a wonderful queen.

She died and Charlie watched the assassin stab her in the chest and his younger sister sat in his mother's lap while it all happened and wasn't the same since. Good people like his mother died while horrible people like Pekka Rollins and that assassin who murdered his mother got to live, and that was far from fair. Watching his father live without her and wither away day after day wasn't fair. Archie ditching his responsibilities of being king and leaving it all up to Charlie wasn't fair.

Charlie knew the term life's not fair all too well. He lost too many people in his life. He lost his mother, his two older brothers who he used to look up to, and in a way his father. His father wasn't the same after his mother died. Gabriel tried to be supportive but he wasn't always quite there. He seemed depressed.

"I have to find Ella."

Said Charlie.

"Charlie-"

"I know you're concerned but I want to find her. I have to find her. It's tearing me apart. I have to know that she's okay."

Said Charlie.

Aracel sighed but looked up at Charlie and placed her hand on his shoulder.

"Alright but you have to promise me you won't let your search consume you."

"I promise."

Charlie knew that finding Ella could solve both of their issues and finding her wasn't going be easy but Charlie wasn't known to give up.

"I have to go. My mom is having a dinner party in other words she's parading me around like a circus animal to other men in hopes that I find a suitor."

Said Aracel with an eye roll.

This was a common practice in Atlas with noblewomen in atlas. Noblewomen were to marry other nobles and grow their parents companies and eventually take over said companies. That's how it's always been done. However Charlie's parents had broken the cycle. Charlie's father was to marry a noblewomen from atlas but that all change when Gabriel met Chrysanthemum. The mistralan beauty who came to atlas while her brother James Ironwood, was attempting to move his way up in the military and eventually take atlas's seat for the council. She was noblewomen from mistral and at the time Atlas and Mistral were not on good terms after the Great War and where's for over 50 years until the marriage between Gabriel and Chrysanthemum united the two kingdoms but shortly after beacon's fall Ironwood cut communication between the kingdoms and cut off all trade and this infuriated mistral's council and Empress.

"Can't you just tell her no?"

Said Charlie.

"I want to but then she guilt tripped me saying that she hadn't seen me in two years and that she missed her baby girl."

Said Aracel with an annoyed look on her face.

"Well good luck with that."

Said Charlie.

"I'll definitely need it."

Said Aracel.

"See you later."

Said Charlie giving her a wave goodbye.

Charlie watched her leave and then he heard footsteps behind him. Charlie turned to see an all too familiar red haired beauty in the darkened hallway emerging from behind a while marble pillar with a pair of alluring emerald green eyes.

"What are you doing here Monica?! You're not allowed to be here-"

"When Aracel is here but she's not here anymore now is she."

Said Monica walking towards Charlie.

Charlie hated to admit it but Monica was stunning. She had Ruby red wavy hair that reached to her shoulders, held back by a golden headband, her eyes were an emerald green which was a signature eye color of the Winchester family due to some Valian traits in the family genes. She had an hourglass figure and looked good in pretty much anything she wore. She would've been named the most beautiful girl in atlas if it weren't for Aracel claiming that title. Monica's skin was fair like most atlesian women but it seemed to glisten. Monica was beautiful to look at sure but Charlie couldn't stand being around her. She had the personality of a snake. She was deceptive, ruthless, and cunning. She wasn't very kind and would make an awful ruler. She only cared about herself and hated that Charlie had started aiding Mantle. She had told Charlie that they were scum and didn't deserve atlas's kindness and she made Charlie's blood boil.

"What do you want?"

Charlie shot her an icy glare signaling her to leave him alone but it wasn't working.

Monica walked over to him and wrapped her arm around his shoulder while messing with the collar of his white jacket. She started to whisper in his ear.

"Why so distant? We're supposed to marry you know."

Monica purred.

Monica often did this to most men when she wanted something or to get them to do what she wanted. It worked on other men but it didn't work on Charlie. Charlie pushed her off of him and gave her a look that made her frown. If Monica hated anything more than not getting her way, it was men not falling for her charm.

"The engagement is off. Leave the palace grounds before I have you escorted out by the guards."

Monica's red brows furrowed.

"What?! Tell me! What does this Ella girl have that I don't?!"

"For starters, she has a heart and a personality!"

Monica's eyes glistened those weren't genuine tears. Monica was a great actress and could fool any man but not Charlie. He knew those weren't real tears.

"You don't really mean that..."

Said Monica with a tear rolling down her cheek.

"Would you stop with the fake crying. You're not getting my sympathy."

Monica shot him a glare and she looked at the glass shoe in the case and she quickly opened the case and took the high heel out.

"Put. It. Back."

Said Charlie firmly, his fists clenched.

"Just forget about her Charlie! She clearly doesn't want to be found!"

"I said put it back!"

Said Charlie getting angrier.

Monica let it fall out of her hands and Charlie immediately dove to the ground and caught it before it could drop. He got off the floor and turned to Monica. His expression seemed to frighten her because she actually looked a little scared.

"LEAVE! Now!"

Monica growled in frustration and stomped her foot on the ground and left feeling angry and discouraged. Charlie looked down at the glass heel and muttered to himself.

"Where did you run off to Ella? Why did you leave?"

Charlie placed the shoe back in the glass case and sighed.

"Wherever you are, I'm going to find you..."
