The Binding Potion
I wake up and notice it's still dark outside. "Pssst!" Someone hisses. I look around and when I turn my head a girl pops out of no where. "Ah!" I shout in surprise. "Shhh!!" She hisses again. "I don't think you did anything and I might have some information for you," she says. I eye her suspiciously, though she probably doesn't know because it's dark. "Why should I trust you?" I ask. "That's the thing," she grins. "You don't know. You just have to trust me." I nod and she introduces herself. "My name is Jessica Wolf. Now listen, my mom is a shape shifter so I know how this works, when a shifter is in any form they inhabit those powers, that's how Silvia was attacked. If you can bind the shifter's magic with a certain potion she can't shift." "Do you know how to mix this potion?" "No, but Mother does. I can send her and owl," she says. "That would be wonderful. Thank you Wolf." She nods and sinks down and slinks to her own bed. I instantly fall back asleep and dream of potions that turn you green and cover you in frosting.

The next morning I wake up and still only half awake I get dressed. Classes don't start up again until tomorrow. I walk out and look for Alex. I finally spot him sitting up side down on the couch. "What are you doing?" I laugh. "Sitting. What are you doing?" He replies with a cheeky grin. I roll my eyes, "I got a tip last night," I mutter as the last of the students leave the common room. His eyes widen and he sits up. I sit down beside him. "You remember our shape shifter theory?" "Yea." "A girl I met's mother is a shifter too. She said we have to bind the shifter's magic," I explain. "How do we do that?" He asks. "She'll get back to me on that," I wave my hand as if waving off the matter. "Well I don't know about you but I can't think on an empty stomach," Alex says, standing up. "Nor can I," I sigh and follow him out of the common room. I feel someone tap my shoulder and a roll of paper drops in front of me. "Hey! What the-" I shout in surprise but I see Wolf behind me. "Is this the..?" I ask and she nods. "It's all in there," Wolf nods. I beam, "Thanks." She nods and goes to sit with her friends. I open the paper and Alex reads from over my shoulder...
Dear Friend of Jessica,
I see you are having some difficulties with an "uninvited guest" at the school. I hope the enclosed instructions come of assistance.
1 cup Merpeople Teeth
1 tbs Powdered Dragon Flame
3 halves Bezoar
4 cups Sugar
2 tsp Acromantula Venom
7 drops Enemies' Blood
1 tbs Dragon Claw Ooze
Slowly add each ingredient in the order they are listed, stopping when the concoction bubbles. Let it brew undisturbed for 2-3 weeks. After that, simply preform the petrificus totalis spell. The concoction should be brown with swirls of silver and thick. If not dispose of it instantly. When you have the shape shifter cornered, simply spray him/her/it until it shows it's original form.
Hope this helped Dear!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Alma Wolf
"We might have a few problems," Alex says when he finishes. "1) where are we going to find all of this? 2) What's the deal with 'Enemies' Blood'? 3) Aren't the Acromantulas here long gone? 4) We don't have 2-3 weeks!" "Calm down, Potter. We'll find the ingredients and the time," I nod calmly. "What if we can't?" He asks. I sigh, "We will. Have faith Potter." He nods and we finish breakfast in silence, both of us thinking about how on earth we are going to pull this off. We finish breakfast and begin wandering the corridors. I take a sharp turn, suddenly actually going somewhere. "Where are we going?" Alex asks. I sigh and shakily reply, "We're visiting Silvia." We knock on the door to the infirmary and Madam Pompfry opens the door. "Can we see Silvia?" Alex asks. She looks like she's about to object, but the pleading faces of mine and Alex's must change her mind. Her face softens, "Go ahead," she smiles. We walk inside and for the second time this year, I gasped and my heart skipped a beat when I saw her. Alex put his hand on my shoulder as I compose myself. "I don't understand why it's so shocking," I say softly. "It's okay. It is," he nods and we walk over to the chair beside her bed. I sit down and Alex stands. I shakily put my hand on Silvia's which is still shaped like it's holding something to her face. The cup, I recall. "I wonder where she was going," I say. "Maybe she was lost," Alex shrugs. "Perhaps," I nod airily. I see something tucked in her pocket. "Potter," I whisper and look back to make sure Madam Pompfry isn't watching. She's not. I pull the bag out of the back of Silvia's robes. It looks like she was hiding it. Confused, I open the brown paper sack and rifle through the contents, a small vile of a shiny green powder, a vile of silver liquid, it looks like unicorn blood but runnier, a bag of small sharp things, and another vile of a runny, transparent green liquid. I smell all of them. "The green stuff smells like..." I say thoughtfully. "Acromantula venom," Alex finishes. "These are ingredients to the binding potion." "She knew?" I ask in disbelief. "Maybe..." "Alright, children, visiting hours are over," Madam Pompfry smiles. We nod and I stuff the bag under my robes. We leave and head back to the dorms.
