Lesson Learned

When Harvey got knighted a knight of Camelot he was ecstatic. It has been his dream since he was small to become a knight. He couldn't stop smiling for a week.

Only one thing in the world could have stopped his smile. That was one thing was Merlin. Merlin the Princes manservant. The definition of incompetent.

Harvey liked to think that he was a nice guy but Merlin made him boil with anger. When Harvey told some of the other new knights they couldn't help but agree.

Harvey and his fellow knight and new friend Brius were walking toward the training field when they heard a laugh behind them.

"Yes your prattiness!" Merlin shouted behind him.

"MERLIN!" Could be heard from inside the door that the warlock just walked out of. Soon the Prince himself came storming out.

Merlin just kelt laughing. As they walked the Prince walked up next to him and smacked the back of his servants head.

To receive a GLARE! The servant had the nerve to glare at his Prince! The two knights looked at each other and made a silent agreement. Tonight they would teach this boy a lesson.

Later that night the two knights waited in the armory for him to come alone. Once said man came their plan sprung into action.

"Who do you think you are?" Brius said stepping out of the shadows.

"I'm Merlin. The Princes manservant." He said and held out his hand.

"We know who you are?" Harvey said joining his friend. Merlin tilted his head in confusion. Until he finally realized what was happening.

"Alright look I do-" Merlin started but was cut off by Harvey pushing him to the wall.

"You don't what? Want any trouble. Well maybe if you weren't such disrespect then there wouldn't be any trouble." This was when the first punch was thrown. Making it real. Harvey and Brius were attacking Merlin. The punch came from Harvey and landed right into the side of his stomach. Then Harvey pushed him to the floor and made sure that he wouldn't get up.

"You think you have a right to never use his title. To never bow when you speak to him. To call him a PRAT!" With each sentence Brius gave another kick.

This continued until Merlin was no longer conscious. Each kick and punch getting harder and more forceful. When they decided that the boy had suffered enough they just simply left him in the armory.

The next morning when Arthur awoke to no breakfast and no Merlin he was furious. He charged to Gaius's chambers and entered without knocking.

"Where is my sorry excuse of a manservant?!" He demanded. When Gaius turned Arthur saw his face was full of worry.

"He didn't show up for work?" Arthur shook his head.

"He never came home last night. I just assumed he was working late and would show up for work when he finished." Gaius's words worried Arthur, not that he would admit it.

"Well then where is he?" He said more quietly not to worry the old man further.

"When I last saw him he was taking your armor to the armory." Arthur nodded and went on his way. He practically ran to the armory. Half expecting and half hoping that he had just fallen asleep and needed to be woken up.

When Arthur walked into the armory he was lucily meant with a sleeping form with a red shirt and blue neckerchief.

"Merlin wake up!" Arthur shouted as he approached the boy but stopped when he saw the blood. The blood that had dried. The blood coming out of his side and head.

"Merlin!" Arthur shouted and ran next to him. He checked for a breath and sighed in relief. There was a breath, he was alive. It may have been a weak breath but it was there.

Arthur quickly jumped into action and brought him to Gaius.

"I found him on the floor of the armory." He said once he burst through the door. Gaius took one look at him and jumped into action. Arthur put him where Gaius told him to and was quickly pushed out.

"How bad was it?" Arthur asked later that day.

"I wish someone had found him sooner. He was barley alive when you found him. Any later and he might not have made it." Gaius said and Arthur's blood boiled. Someone had almost killed him. His manservant. His friend. His brother! He would find who did this, and they would pay.

It took around three days for Merlin to wake up. Once he did all he felt was sore. He body was sore, his chest was sore, his head was sore. Just everything was sore.

"Merlin?" He heard a voice say. Merlin opened his eyes to see a blurry picture of blond hair and a red shirt. Once it focused he panicked, it was Arthur.

"Am I late for work?" Merlin said as he tried to get up but Arthur stopped him.

"No. You were attacked. You've been out for three days." Arthur said slowly as if talking to a child. That's when Merlin remembered.

"Oh." Was all Merlin could say.

"Merlin. Who attacked you?" Arthur said sternly but not loudly.

"Two of the new knights. Sir's Harvey and Brius. They said they were punishing me. Because of my behavior towards you." He said quietly. Arthur's face flushed with anger.

"Go back to sleep Merlin. I'll be back when you awake." And with that Arthur was gone.

Arthur stormed to their Sir Harvey's chambers to find him and Brius speaking.

"Sire! To what do I owe the visit?" Arthur rolled his eyes. 'Boot lickers.'

"I'm here to talk about resent events involving you and my man servant." The two knights smirked.

"Oh yes your man servant Merlin. We just felt that your servant had no right to speak to you like that. I mean, your prince. You shouldn't even have to look at him. Let alone deal with him. I cannot believe him. That idiotic, slimy, little smart ar-" Harvey was cut of by Arthur fist in his mouth.

"Merlin is my manservant meaning if I think that needs to be punished I will punish him. Also Merlin his my first and only true friend. No, he is my brother. So I do not appreciate it that I wake up to find him on his death bed. You are lucky that I am not king and am not like my father. For if I was you would be executed." With that he left.

The two knights walked up to the physicians chambers it's sweaty palms. They realized what they did was wrong and now they were going to fix it.

Harvey knocked on the door. Merlin opened the door and smiled.

"Good morning Harvey, Brius." He nodded to each man respectively.

"How to you know our names?" Asked Brius dumbfounded.

"Well, I try to learn everyone's name. I like to think that every person I met could become a friends. I also think its rather rude to not know the names of people you see almost every day."

"You see us everyday?" Now it was Harvey's turn to be dumbfounded.

"Yes, on the training field. I must say Harvey you are the best knife thrower I have ever seen." Merlin said and gestured for the two to enter.

The two followed and sat down at the table he was now sitting at.

"Look Merlin, we wanted to apologize. What we did was incredibly wrong. And we feel awful. We are sorry." They had expected Merlin to be furious or at least annoyed but he just smiled.

"You are forgiven." Now both men were dumbfounded.

"Why?" They never really found out for sure who asked why. But one of them did.

"Because, I know that knights live off of pride. And I know that apologies usually hurt people's pride, well I think other wise I think it actually shows that they have more pride than all others, but to come down here and admit what you did was wrong and apologize. Is enough. Also you both have some serious bruises on your faces, so I'm assuming Arthur took care of that for me." The three men chuckled.

"Thank you for your forgiveness, it means a lot. And if you wouldn't mind I would like to be your friend." Harvey said and stuck out his hand.

"Never considered you otherwise." Merlin grabbed the hand and shook.

Around a year later Arthur was looking for Merlin to find him, Harvey and Brius, all laughing and enjoying themselves. It amazed Arthur how a man could be so forgiving.
