"Everyone do your homework and submit it tomorrow. If anyone will not submit then you will face the music," Mr Collis said after the bell rang signalling that it was our next period.
I packed my bag and took a look at my schedule. My second course was in English class.
"You'll face the music." I heard someone beside me trying to mimic Mr Collis.
I lifted my head to see it was Natasha who was trying to make a strict face but failed miserably causing me to let out a small chuckle.
"Which period do you have next Ella?" Natasha asked while we came out of the class.
"Ella? Did you forget my name that easily? It's--" I began speaking a bit offended but Natasha cut me off in the middle of my sentence.
"I know your name is Bella. Have you ever heard of a word called nickname? Now you're my friend, so...I get to call you whatever I want. Whatever I want in the sense good names."
"Oh..."
It was the first time a person had ever considered me to be their friend after almost a decade.
Ella. At least it sounded better than belwhore or bitch.
"So, which class do you have right now, Ella?"
"English."
We came to halt at my locker.
"I don't have English right now...Oh shit, it's Physics! Gotta run. To reach the English room, go right and then again right. From there, you walk straight and turn left. You will find your class. Bye. If I get late then I'll be getting detention." With that, she ran to her Physics class in the opposite direction.
I started following the instructions she gave me to reach my class. The hall was crowded. I bumped into a few people and winced when my bruised body got in contact with them. When I turned right, I saw a direction board set up for the classes from this hall.
I noticed that it pointed in the right direction for my class.
I heard cheers and hoots. Curiously, I followed the direction from where loud noises were coming from.
A big crowd was formed in the middle of the ground. I jogged towards them and got in between of the people to reach in front to look at what was going on.
Most of them had terrified expression while some were having excitement on their faces. So, I was curious as to what was going on.
When I reached almost to the front, I saw two figures fighting or more like one figure punching the other causing the person eating punches and kicks to wail in pain. Why was the guy being brutal over the other? What was going on that too in the school grounds?
"That guy was really stupid." I heard a girl shout to another girl.
"I know right! I wouldn't have said those words if I was in that guy's position."
"I pity him. Daring an Alpha especially Alpha Xanthos is something that a person should never do."
"He literally bad-mouthed the Alpha!"
Oh, so the boy who was beating the other guy to a pulp was Alpha Xanthos. But the word Alpha sounds really weird. I felt like I have heard it somewhere but couldn't put the finger where. Oh wait, I think it's from geometry or maybe in chemistry? yea, yea greek words alpha, beta, gamma etc
The entire crowd became quiet when one girl screamed; asking them to stop fighting.
But I guess it fell in the deaf ears.
"Stop Alpha Xanthos! He uttered those words by mistake!"
The girl standing beside me laughed. "Look the girlfriend is pleading."
"They aren't even mates but look at that girl. She's flooding tears." She continued. "Oof, the chemistry in the relationship."
I blinked as I saw the girl who I now knew was the beaten guy's girlfriend ran in between the fight. I noticed all of them were standing silently.
"Why's no one stopping this fight? Like two people can hold each of that guy's hand," I said to the girl who was standing beside me.
She shook her head. "We can't stop the Alpha- wait." She sniffed weirdly. "Are you new here? You smell... unique? Yea different than us." Huh? smell unique? Where did this come from? "You wouldn't really understand this situation then, human."
"Umm- I didn't get you," I asked tilting my head. "Who's an Alpha?"
"That guy who we can't stop is our Alpha, so if we do something that he doesn't like, we wouldn't be able to escape the consequences and he's someone with whom you shouldn't really mess with. Even the slightest mistake and you'll know what hell means."
"Is he like the school leader?"
"Okay you can understand it that way."
A loud scream made everyone take a step back. My eyes widened at the scene in front of me.
The guy who was hit by the 'Alpha' now lay on the ground struggling to wake up.
"You think you can get away with what you said?" He kicked the guy before staring at the dead silent crowd. "If anyone dared to disobey me, I'll make sure you go through the worse." He cracked his hands before continuing, "You get m--"
"ACHU!"
A loud sneeze cut him off. My eyes quickly opened only to see the school leader's eyes on me. Now, my eyes if possible, widened further when I realized my hands were covering my mouth and it was me who sneezed out loud.
I swallowed as the 'Alpha' continued to stare at me. What should I do? Should I run from here?
"Human?" The girl beside me shook my hand to make me come out of my shock.
"That," I pointed at my mouth, "wasn't supposed to come out loud, haha, y-you can continue haha," I managed as awkwardly as I could. However, he started taking long strides towards me while staring straight at my eyes.
W-Why was he coming here? Why?
I took small steps behind. " See, it's just a sneeze, you can't be this hot headed to be disturbed by a sneeze. Next time, I'll ask my sneeze to inform me beforehand yea that would do I guess."
People around me gasped. Did I sound too awkward?
He stood in front of me and that's when I got to take a good look of how he actually looked.
Brown hair, brown eyes that had a unique sparkle, Sun-kissed skin, perfect jawline and kissable pink lips. He looked around to be six feet one or two. He had a perfect body structure. His strong muscles could be noticed as the t-shirt he was wearing was sticking to his body. Long eyelashes and a pair of a thick eyebrow. I couldn't take my eyes away from this Greek God. It should be illegal to be this beautiful. His eyes pulled me into it.
"Checking me?"
I remembered where I was and in what situation I was stuck in causing my face to heat up. I started fake coughing. "I'm not feeling well *cough* you see. You should, *cough* stay *cough* stay away from me." *cough*
Alpha Xanthos tilted his head to one side and smiled.
"Can't believe that we're meeting this way," he said. He put his hand forward for me to shake I suppose but when I saw his hand was covered in blood, I hesitated.
I pointed at his hands and said with a shaky voice, "Blood."
He smirked before dropping his hands to his side. "You've the same trait left, Amanda."
"I think you've mistaken me for someone else, Alpha?" I said with an uncertain tone.
"I know I am not." He walked closer and bent close enough for his hot breath to fan against my ears. "It's Xanthos for you, my mate," he whispered before walking past me causing sparks to evolve on my arm that brushed against his.
I stood as stiff as a stick when I tried to understand and digest the whole thing. The whole crowd disappeared whilst few people staring weirdly at me. I was brought back to my sense when someone pushed me while rushing to their class.
That's when I looked at my wristwatch and noticed that I was fifteen freaking minutes late to realize that my next period would've started. What should I say to my new teacher? Will he or she think I was not a punctual student? I created a first bad impression. What excuse should I give?
When I found the class, I took a deep breath. I opened the door slowly and peeked inside. I saw a woman with long blonde hair and green eyes standing with a book in her hand. When she heard the door open, she glared at me.
"Who are you and why did you interrupt me in the middle of my teaching?" She asked sternly.
"I'm the new student named Bella Alby. I was late 'cause--" My excuse was cut off by the banging of the class door against the wall.
Xanthos strode inside the classroom with authority, carrying a powerful aura around him. From the corner of my eyes, I saw few girls fanning themselves with their books.
His dark brown eyes landed on me and then the teacher. The teacher slightly bowed her head however straightened up. Did she feel the aura?
All the three of us stood as awkwardly silent as we could, well at least I felt awkward and started twiddling my fingers. The teacher stared at Xanthos and me back and forth.
Xanthos looked at my fingers and gazed back at me before breaking the silence. "This is awkward." Yea, I agree with you. "Will you tell us what to do next?" I stared at him with wide eyes at the tone he was using to a teacher. "Ms Will," he added understanding the stare I gave him.
"Uh- I apologize alpha, you both can go back to your seat."
Why is she apologizing to him? Was he that big of a person?
While I was searching for an empty seat, I saw Xanthos walking towards the middle row so I followed him noticing there were few seats left. There was something in me that wanted to sit next to him yet I sat two seats away from him. Maybe the weird familiarity I had with him made me want to speak to him more? However, the scene that he displayed a while ago made me fear him.
For a while, okay maybe more than 'for a while', I was staring at him to figure out where I've seen him before. He must've felt my stare 'cause he turned sideways and raised his eyebrows. I smiled at him to hide my embarrassment causing his eyes to lighten up. He returned the smile with his own one and turned his head ahead. That smile made him look entirely different from the 'bad guy' image of his.
I stared outside the window and got lost in my thoughts.
Who was Xanthos?
