An Average Demigod Day
Some of the girls were out in the park, enjoying the last of the day's sunshine. Tanzy giggled and Zoe, squashed next to her against the big valley oak tree, smiled sleepily at the frankly (ba-doom tisch!) hilarious sight before them. Because today was the day Charlie was teaching Telia to skateboard.
"Come on, Tils, you just gotta - oh gods, not again..."
"Whoops," said Telia sheepishly, after bumping into her own newly planted saplings for the five hundred and eightieth time.
"You okay, Tilly?" called Zoe from a safe distance. Telia gave her the thumbs up and walked, limping, over to Charlie.
"I think I better pack it in for the day, Charlie," laughed Telia, handing her the heavily embellished skateboard.
"Weak," muttered Charlie under her breath good-naturedly. And then, turning to Tanzy, "Right, missy. Your turn!"
"Uh-uh, no way Jose! Go teach your estupido fish to skate! You'd have the same amount of luck with me," said Tanzy with her trademark ear-to-ear grin, shaking back her head of ridiculously springy curls and attempting to contain them with a red bandanna.
Charlie just laughed and plonked herself right next to Zoe. "Hey, bro. You want some skating classes?"
"First up, I am not your bro. I am your Sassy Intelligent Sister, aka SIS," shot back Zoe. "And we all know I'm a way better skater than you."
Charlie smirked. "Trust you to come up with an acronym for that - ow!" Zoe had slugged her on the arm, where the former knew it would hurt the most.
"I live to cause painnnnnn..." said Zoe in her creepiest voice.
"This banter is sick, bros," came Basti's sarcastic voice from the other side of the tree.
"Hey, Basti-the-sick-bro!" called Tanzy. "I'm guessing Mum just noticed the grease stains on the new fabric?"
"You got it! You want me to help you find a hiding place?"
"Nah, I'm good. I think we exhausted them all anyway. She's got pretty wise to us."
"C'mon, we better go talk to her then."
So the Valdez kids walked back towards the apartment building (it had seemed a little odd to the residents of New Rome to have an enormous apartment building in the middle of a suburb, but Annabeth will be Annabeth).
Zoe couldn't help but laugh at their retreating backs. "I wonder what wonderful way Auntie Cally will kill them this time?"
"Zeus only knows," grinned Charlie, plopping down next to her and dragging Telia down as well.
Just then Emmi came wandering up, looking a bit lost.
"You okay, Em?" asked Zoe.
"Yeah...just looking for Basti."
"Oh, he went back home with Tanz. Apparently Auntie Cally just notcied another lot of grease stains from Tanzy on the new fabric."
Emmi laughed, finally looking herself again. "Okay. I'll go find him when it's safe again."
At her retreating figure, the three girls couldn't help giggling. It was so obvious that Emmi and Basti were crushing on each other, and they were so oblivious. My favourite kind of romance, reflected Zoe.
