Part 3
I only own Clover and Freak. Nothing else. (well, other than the plot itself)
My advice for you is, don’t go down a passageway with a bloodthirsty machine. Especially when it is dark.
When I ran into the hallway, and I made sure I turned out the lights. Freak was totally disoriented, and it totally slammed into one of the doors with a BANG!
I could hear the device buzzing in the dark, but I couldn’t see it. I moved forward and I heard the device next to me.
Okay, I didn’t just hear it. It snipped my hair and almost toppled out of the air.
I moved the device toward the light. I was about to follow, but Freak bit me!
The saws he used for teeth were like daggers getting impaled into my skin, and yes, I know what that feels like.
I screamed and kicked Freak. It fell back and hit the wall with a CRASH! I ran for the exit, my hand on my bleeding right arm. I tried to maneuver the device with the book, but it was difficult.
I burst into the bright light and ran toward Leo. He was standing in the middle of the open space, holding out his arms. I wasn’t paying attention to what he was wearing, but when I embraced his arms, he pushed a button on a new belt he had on and we shot toward the ceiling. We landed on the catwalk, at least 50 feet above the ground.
I handed him the remote for the device and he moved it toward the blast chambers.
Freak emerged from the dark passageway and spotted the book. He wheeled after it, making the sound like a dying cow.
Leo furrowed his brow in concentration. He flew the book into the blast chamber and I grasped his hand.
“Leo! No! That is the future! I need it!” Leo gave me a mischievous look like, You worry too much! He turned back to the scene and moved the device through the blast chamber’s window! It was almost as if I was watching a water droplet hit the surface, except the drop went through the barrier.
“What the-?” I looked at him, “How did you manage that?” He smiled again.
“The blast chambers have some awesome replacement windows. I took out the others and put the new ones in. They can let things you want to escape, escape! The other things you don’t want to leave aren’t able to pass through them. With this remote,”-he pulled out a black box with a red button in it- “I can easily set off the bomb I have in the chamber. Let’s hope Freak falls for it.” Leo turned to the scene again, right as Freak entered the chamber, looking around the book. Leo pushed the red button and the door closed!
Freak screamed in outrage and looked at the huge box of TNT in the room next to him.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The TNT exploded in one huge fireball!
I turned away from the light, and when I looked back, Freak was in a thousand different pieces!
I turned to Leo and hugged him tight. He repositioned himself so he was hugging me.
We were nose to nose.
I looked down at the floor.
“I’m sorry.” He looked at me quizzically.
“For what?” Leo asked. I let go of him and leaned against the catwalks railing because I suddenly felt very weak.
“I’m sorry I can’t tell you what is in that book. It would...” I was about to say ‘scare you’ but I decided against it. I didn’t want Leo chickening out of the quest before it even started it.
He put a hand on my shoulder and realized that I was hurt. Leo touched my arm gingerly.
“How did that happen?” I realized he had asked me a question.
“Freak bit me. Nothing more than that. Why do you ask?” I relied in a faint voice. He shook his head,
“It is green.” I looked down at my cut and realized it was green!
That was probably why I felt so weak.
The more I thought about trying to find an answer, the more it started to hurt. My eyes danced with black spots and I nearly fell of the edge of the catwalk. Leo caught me and I leaned up against him.
“What is wrong with me?” I asked him, trying not to sound scared or panicked.
Leo looked around and found a first aid kit attached to the wall. He helped me over to it and set me down on the catwalk. I could barely focus, but I saw Leo pulling out random medical supplies.
He knelt down next to me and kissed my forehead.
“Stay with me, okay?” My insides felt crappy, but when Leo had kissed to me, they seemed to get better. He pulled out some hydrogen peroxide and started the process.
I didn’t really feel anything because my mind was buzzing over the kiss. Sure it wasn’t on the lips, which would have been shocking, but still. Leo had feelings for me!
I gazed at his curly hair, which was still sticking up at odd angles, but it was the most attractive thing I had ever seen. Next to his smile and calculating eyes, of course.
I was just thinking about how some other girls I knew would be jealous, when Leo finished. He leaned back to admire his work, but I have to say, there had been better times.
I looked at it and smiled. In permanent marker, Leo had written, ‘Everyone Loves Leo’. I smiled and flung myself around him and said,
“You are so right!” It was to describe my feelings, and it was the truth.
Every girl in Camp Half-Blood liked Leo as a friend, or closer. Except for maybe the Ares cabin.
I let go and kissed him on the forehead. “Thank you so much.” He blushed a deep cherry red.
“Oh, it was nothing. Thanks for saving me from Freak in the Argo II. He just came up to me and asked me where the bathroom was. I asked it what it meant, but it knocked me out before the thing answered me. Did you hear me pass out?” I nodded.
“I heard a banging sound echo through the Argo II. Was it your head?” Leo blushed even deeper and stood.
“Probably. Let’s go get that book so you can return it to Rick.” He turned and climbed down the ladder.
I thought about what he had said and was shocked .
“Wait!” I called after him. “How do you know it is from Rick Riordan?” Leo reached the bottom and smiled up at me.
“I am a special boy!” he called and raced toward the exit. I realized it was time for dinner and tried to climb down the ladder as fast as possible.
I hit the bottom and ran after him,
“Hey Leo! Wait up!”
I almost tripped on something on the way out. I stopped and looked back.
It was the future.
I picked up the book, turned it in my hands and looked around the bunker.
Leo will be here no matter what happens to him, I thought, He has until the solstice. I may as well try and get him closer to me.
I turned and raced out of the bunker, sprinting to keep up with Leo’s fast pace.
