Part 1

This is a story I wrote about Leo and me. It never happened. I own only Clover and Freak. Enjoy!

“Leo! Will you please stop throwing wrenches at me?!” I tossed one of the metal tools back at him. I totally missed, but Leo got the idea.

“Clover, just hold on! I just need to connect wires together!” Leo was hunched over a hatch, toying with wires from the unfinished Argo II.

I picked up my book and continued to read. I made sure Leo couldn’t see what I was reading. This was top secret information that the scribe (or in otherwords: created) from Camp, Rick Riordan, had given me to read. He would have given it to Annabeth, but she is in the prophecy. I was the daughter of Athena and descendant of Apollo, so the sensible choice was to give it to me. ‘Information is dangerous.’ Chiron had told me. I knew that when Demigods knew their future, they tried to change it, but it would never work. I was sure that Leo would try to change his future if he knew it.

“Hey, pass me the blueprints, could you?” Leo said from a totally different hatch.

I put down the book and grabbed the blueprints from off of Leo’s desk. His desk had a dozen or more broken pencils and eraser shreds covering the top. I wiped some of the eraser shreds off of the chair, just to make it a little neater.

I walked over to Leo, who was still in the hatch. I tapped on his knee and he popped his head out. His curly brown hair stuck up, as if he had just put his finger, no, his hand in a light socket, or maybe the entire power plant....

“Woh!” I said, leaning away.  Leo took the blueprints and started to model his hair.

“What? Don’t like my new do? I worked on it all night!” I smiled, revealing my braces.

“How about I call it a do-don’t!” Leo revealed his mischievous smile that I had fallen in love with. Sure I didn’t tell him that, but I loved it when he smiled at a joke.

He plunged back into the Argo II and I returned to my chair.

I loved to come to Bunker 9 with Leo. He was funny and I loved to watch him put things together. I understood how it all worked, but I couldn’t do it like he could.

Bunker 9 was, well, like a bunker. It was secure, a perfect place for hiding from monsters, or having huge explosions that would blow the Camp to pieces. Luckily, Leo only did that once a week. And yes, I survived them all.

'How?' you might ask.

Let’s just say that Leo is the one who saved me. And yes again. He has fire powers.

Back to the bunker.

It was usually crowded with work tables, but they were pushed off to one side because the huge war trireme, the Argo II, was taking up most of the space.

Leo had been working on the Argo II for the past five months, and it was coming along pretty good, except that the bunker was a complete mess. I usually cleaned up some of it, but it was still a pig sty. The one clean table was the one with Festus’s head on it.

It was wrapped in velvet and treated like a trophy. The last time I tried to touch it, Leo totally freaked out on me. That was the one thing I wasn’t allowed to touch, other than his magical tool belt.

I could understand why monsters freaked out every time they faced Leo. I bet part of it was his hair, but the other part was his temper. Sure in the books he only gets mad, oh, twice. Maybe three, but they never mentioned the time he was building the Argo II. I usually had to smack him for swearing in front of me.

Yeah, he is not just smiles.

I sat in my chair and picked up the book. Okay, this is top secret info, but I need to tell you. Leo is the grandson of Hazel’s old boyfriend. I can’t tell Leo that, but I find it kind of creepy. Sure, Leo wouldn’t know who Hazel is, but still. Not worth the chance.

There is also one detail that is scaring me to death. Percy and Annabeth fall into Tartarus. Rick won’t give me the next book, and it is driving me crazy! If he was going to give me this information, why won’t he give me the whole thing? I needed to know the end! It was driving me insane! In the end of the last book, Percy and Annabeth fall into Tartarus, and Leo, Piper, Jason, Frank and Hazel go off to Greece to find the doors of death. That is the worst cliffhanger ever! I have asked him to give me the next book, but he said Rachel hasn’t told him anything more.

Learning that Rachel was involved, it scared the bejeebers out of me!

There was a BANG! from inside the Argo II. I thought it was just Leo, banging on the side of the hull again, because it echoed through the whole ship. I waited for another hammer beat, but nothing came.

“Leo?” I called, putting the book down. I stood up and walked over to the ship. I banged on the side of the hull and called, “Leo, are you okay?” No response. I climbed on top of a piece of the hull and climbed onto the top.

I slipped into the more ‘homey’ part of the ship. Leo had shown me the blueprints for the ship, and I had helped out alot with the details in the bedrooms, but I suddenly felt lost.

“Leo, you better not me playing a joke on me!” Still, there was no response.

I walked past the engine room and peeked inside. No one was there. I continued down the hall, checking in all of the rooms, but no one but me was there.

No Leo, no campers, no monsters, just me.

It felt creepy, like I was the last person on Earth or something. I went deeper into the ship and came out in the stables.

I had told Leo that the Pegasi liked to roam. Not just stay in one cramped space, but he didn’t listen.

The glass bottom sparkled in the light of the work lights from out in the bunker. It shot rainbows into the dark area and I had an idea. I pulled out a gold drachma from my pocket and tossed it into the rainbow. It disappeared and I said,

“Oh Iris, goddess of the rainbow. Except my offering. Show me Leo Valdez in Bunker 9.” The rainbow shimmered and I saw a horrible sight.

Leo was unconscious, slumped over and tied to a post of some kind. I looked around me, but none of the posts looked like it. I looked closer into the rainbow and I looked at the surroundings. The post wasn’t really a post, I concluded. It was a one of the bar chair legs.

No, Leo did not put in a real bar. It's just a place to eat food by the kitchen.

There were recliners, a cooler tucked into one corner and a kitchen area. I knew where that was!

I was about to swipe my hand to cut the connection, but something else loomed in the darkness. I focused on it, but I couldn’t make it out. It made clicking noises, but I couldn’t understand what it was saying.

Leo had also taught me how to understand Creak and Squeak. This was some sort of Creak and Squeak language, but since I wasn’t very fluint, I couldn't really understand it. Leo could have understood it right away, but I needed it repeated several times before I got it. I was a lot better at Greek then I was at Squeak. Leo was the exact opposite.

The creature looked at me with glowing green eyes, as if expecting me to understand.

“Um, could you repeat that?” I asked. The green glow looked down, shook it’s  head and returned to me as if saying, Shame on you!

“CREEEEEEAK...... GROWWWWWWWN............... SQUEEEEEEEE!”

I thought about it for a minute. ‘You.... wish, no, will..... pray? No, pay..... the........ peace? Nope, price..... for....him’.

“You will pay the price for him? Well, what does that mean?” I asked the creature. It shook it’s head again and the connection broke. I looked around the stables expecting the creature to be standing next to me. No such thing was with me. I turned and raced out the door.

I needed to find the Leo cave.
