1. "I'll Take That As A No Then!"
It was still early when the clouds gave away their water to the city and trees. Aria glanced from her office window glass as the road didn't stop being alive with the rainy splashes that her eyes could appreciate. Each drop is so beautiful as they fall. Perhaps, it'd be fun to sit inside them and feel the adventurous ride directly towards the earth. The moment she realized her thoughts, Aria found herself laughing at her crazy daydreams and silliness.
However, she felt the immediate urge to get out of there, to feel the kiss of cold air and sit on the rooftop with those colors of the magical sunset. She let her eyes see how leisurely yet close the sun was.
Her enjoyment was disturbed by her secretary, Ellie, as she immediately shifted her attention towards the entrance from where she emerged. Aria didn't realize when she'd knocked. However, it doesn't matter as she'd been a really good friend before she appointed her.
"Sign these as quickly as possible." She exclaimed in a rushed tone as she went back. Aria totally recognizes her rush as she sighed.
It'd been a few moments until Ellie was back. Aria looked at her phone for the tenth time within those 2 minutes. It was already time to close. Ellie continued to notice her boss waiting for the clock to strike 7.
"If you're done, can we leave?" She rather ordered.
"I am your employer, don't forget!" She responded by faking a strict tone.
"Well, we're done for the day, Aria. So, basically, my friend mode is back now."
Aria gave her a narrowed gaze to which she got a smirk in return. "Come on! Everyone is waiting!" She reminded her.
Aria's face fell faster than a second. She was an introvert, always preferring loneliness over party music.
"Can't we be at home, rather than go to the same boring club? We could invite a couple of our mates for a bottle of wine and appetizers!" She exclaimed with a positive glint in her eyes as she glanced at her suggestively.
Ellie could only manage a look containing disbelief, "And do what play chess?"
"Well, we could make something to eat! I have plenty of chips as well. I stored them for the weekend!" She smiled. Ellie growled at her.
"I'll take that as a no then." Aria finally gave up giving unreasonable suggestions as she wrapped all her things as she mentally yet steadily prepared herself for the noisy, social night.
It was all set. Before they could end the tasks of the day, a light knock disturbed their thoughts.
"Is it too late?" A lady suddenly emerged.
"Yes," Ellie snapped, "How did you get inside though?"
"I know right. It was hard. I surpassed all the hurdles and managed to find your office." She proudly uttered with a satisfied grin overpowering her expressions.
"Well, I am sorry we're already –" Before Ellie could stop her, she meddled.
"It's an emergency. Please hear me out! I really need you." She shifted her vision towards Aria carrying a pleading look.
Aria looked towards her side where Ellie was rooted. Ellie perfectly knew that her friendly boss would not let this excuse go out of her hand to skip their outing for the night. She warned Aria with her eyes.
Aria's lips steadily formed a full smirk and her friend sighed. The former asked the guest, "Would you like some coffee?"
+++++
"Have you asked him before reaching me?" Aria thoughtfully asked her new client, Sylvia Throne, who happens to be a middle-aged woman, but the way she'd carried herself and talked doesn't make her seem like she was in her mid-forties. She appeared way too young for her age.
As a response, she pressed her lips together as she shook lightly and seemed to be deep in her own thoughts. Aria's brows met the ceiling in stunned surprise. Though, she patiently waited for the lady to explain the entire scenario that according to her, partly lacked sense at the moment.
"Mrs. Throne?" She managed to bring her out of her reverie. Sylvia had just arrived for the second time to find a perfect match for her guest that happens to be single and ready to mingle. That's what she'd thought and she'd felt that her guest needs a stable woman to keep his life on track. Haven't people stopped thinking and interfering in others' lives? Apparently, it doesn't actually seem like it in this case.
"Well," Sylvia finally starts to respond, "I thought he was alone and needs a true partner!" She smiled as if making a big difference. Aria's lips had formed a curve that expressed slight disbelief.
Aria Wright has become what people called successful. Although not the celebrity type, she did find herself a position on the young successful peoples' list in the city. Within a short period, she'd established herself. In a world full of dating apps and blind date set-ups, she'd found a matchmaking agency that has helped her to achieve a better stand amongst other important business personalities.
She cleared her throat as she asked again trying to be as crystal as possible.
"Alright," She mumbled to herself as she quickly glanced to her right where her assistant, Ellie, was rooted with a question mark on her face. Looking back at Sylvia to her front, she added, "Mrs. Throne, does this person – I mean your guest; does he recognise that you're booking his name in our agency and making important decisions for him?" Aria put it in the most clear manner and also tried to find sense at the same time. Also, she made sure to come out as polite as possible.
The moment Sylvia heard her, her voice raised a bit in octave, "My decisions might irk him now but I am sure, he'll thank me for making them on his behalf as I believe they might help him to kill his loneliness." Her tone ended up coming out as an annoyed one as her eyes curved in irritation.
"Yeah, right." Ellie meddled in for the first time and that certainly made Aria pass her a fixed stare.
She wasn't the exasperating or controlling boss but the situation in front of them wasn't kind of smooth and her assistant responding sardonically wouldn't go quite well with her client at this moment.
"Could you tell me the entire thing, Mrs. Throne?" Aria asked again, "I hope you understand this – I certainly do not want someone filing complaints against me or my reputed agency."
Sylvia nodded in understanding, "Aiden lives in my house and frequently brings women and I do not like his ways. Even a bit of it!" She stated.
"What's wrong with that, Mrs. Throne?" Ellie butted again, making her give her a narrowed gaze.
"You're asking me what's wrong? I do not like it." She reasoned in a matter of fact tone.
"Well, ask him to simply leave."
"I cannot," she replies, "Besides, I feel he'll find this all so exciting. Meeting random, anonymous women might interest him."
"We do feed with names and all the details, Mrs. Throne." Ellie interrupted again as she sighed.
Before she could snap her, Aria caught her attention as she spoke, "Well, I don't think you could control or force interests for him, Mrs. Throne."
"I know. This could be like a blind date, right? I have seen your success percentage and I am highly expectant about your work. Just set up one date for him and he'll stop bringing new women and be serious for once in his life!" She ranted at the end.
"Still, I feel this is not going to work," Aria denied, "Besides, we do not do blind dates, Mrs. Throne. It's a matter of both sides."
"Well, I'll convince him to accept this setting and meet somehow and you suggest someone suitable for him? What do you say?"
"Look, I am bored of his lifestyle," she added right away when there was no response. "And believe me, I have the power to take this step. I assure you will never land yourself in any kind of legal trouble by accepting this case."
"Why do you think we'll accept?" Ellie barged in again.
"You sure she's your assistant and not some professional meddler?" Sylvia snapped. Aria gave her a look expressing warning and as a response, Ellie raised her hands in surrender taking a few steps back.
"Look, Mrs. Throne, all of this partly leaves me uncertain. I am still confused, to be frank. I don't think you could force someone to get into a relationship let alone find a life partner." Knowing her thoughts, Sylvia pursed her lips in displeasure. Aria soon added, "This is going to work only if your guest agrees to be a part of this setting, Mrs. Throne. Then we assure you to research your guest's interest and let you know about our final decision."
A genuine, satisfactory smile added up to her lips as Sylvia expressed, "I appreciate that."
"Do leave the details asked inside that matchmaking form and we'll try to get this stuff done."
"Sure. Thank you, hun." Sylvia grinned before disappearing with the form just to barge in again suddenly, "I'll email you this." She pointed at the paper in her as she finally leaves with a wide grin on her face.
Aria sighed in disbelief, but a slight smile never left her lips.
Her gaze landed on her assistant, Ellie, as she shot her a stare, not the serious one, but just a stare. "I've never seen you this intruding, Ellie! What happened to you there?"
She shrugged before answering, "I don't know, maybe I just found her reasons simply unreasonable."
"That's not enough to be impolite and snappy, though," Aria added to which she nodded in acceptance.
"I found her cute," she added a moment later. "I mean this generation forgot to think about someone else." She finished but soon bit her bottom lip in perplexity. Sylvia Throne seemed familiar to her. Does she remind her of someone? Not that she knows of. Does she resemble someone? Probably, Aria finds her looks similar to someone that she'd recently met. It could be that.
"What's wrong with you? She's intruding, to be honest, Aria," Ellie's voice broke her chain of thoughts as she frowned. "I cannot believe you're even considering accepting this!"
Ellie was right. Sylvia Throne has not mentioned her exact relationship with this person named, Aiden and she wishes to fix his relationship issues? Well, it indeed was weird.
"Our task here is to find a match matching his interest. I don't think we have a valid reason to deny, Ellie." Aria pointed out as she nodded in understanding.
