Returning back to the present both boys 12 years old obviously Hoseok being ahead of Jimin according to their birthdate and soon to turn 13 in just a few weeks-time.

Hoseok will turn 13 the day after Jimin's departure and a week before that the current sacrificed male child is announced dead meaning a new male child at the age of 12 is required to replace the dead child and also must become a sacrifice for the town to continue to flourish well.

However, at that moment, unluckily Jimin and Hoseok are the only male children that were 12 years of age and met the requirements. But also, very soon, Hoseok would be turning the age of 13 and no longer would be meeting the only second most important requirement to become the towns sacrifice, so then it will be left with only Jimin who will be the only 12 years old male child perfect to become the sacrifice. Meaning he would be doomed to an eternity of suffering and pain, caged below the dirty dark lonely underground hidden under the entire town in its centre never to taste happiness or see the outside light or freedom again.

The town itself being hidden and isolated from the rest of the world meant that there aren't that many children around especially of the male gender.

The eldest and town head himself are aware and were mostly planning to have Jimin become the next sacrificial lamb should anything happen to the current child being used during the time when Jimin is still at the age of 12. They are aware of Jimin's existence since no child born especially of the male gender is never not known to them; the town's MVP and councillors.

Even though they haven't seen the boy since he was born and so aren't familiar with his appearance but has it in record just like every other male child born to the town. A record of their date of birth is written in a secret book and their names get crossed off the list of potential sacrifices just one week prior to the male child growing past the age of 12.

This also meant that Hoseok's name had already been crossed of the list of potential sacrifice list in the book.

Once this happen that child is long forgotten and no longer precious to the town so they pay him no head as to whatsoever and just ignore their mare existence until they also grow to have a child of their own and the child happens to be male.

Females aren't as precious as the males however they are a necessary requirement to procreate and increase the number of children born to the town.

If you are born within the town you qualify to be sacrificed but if the child is born in some other town you are as meaningless to them as the female child even if you are at the age of 12 and now living in the town.

And so as long as the woman conceived her (baby) within the town itself; its premises; its land; its soil then that child then qualifies to be used as a sacrifice. And so, the town's gate is tightly secured so that no one can escape the town to go give birth somewhere else. The gates heavily guarded by tough scary male figures.

It is easy to enter into the town and be fully welcomed with a big party thrown just for you but once inside you can never come out again and it's very rare that you find anyone escaping the town. If by chance; by a miracle you succeed in breaking away but your family is left behind, they all either get killed; murdered in cold blood treacherously as retribution to you breaking the most enforced law of this horrendous town full of dark secrets.
