"Hey, how'd you like the decorations on your house?" Ruby rolled her eyes, she didn't realize that she shared more than one class with Jude and hated the fact she had to sit through calculus with him as well. But she turned a smiling face towards him, the sudden confusion that showed across his face would have been cute if he was actually good looking.

"It was nice, but you should really do your homework next time. You got the neighbours house, not mine and they have you on camera." The look of utter shock and panic that flashed across Jude's face was priceless, Ruby wished she had a camera sitting there just to capture that expression and plaster it all over the school. But that went against what she believed in and what she stood for so let the thought slide away as quickly as it had appeared.

The teacher came in soon after, introduced themselves again and began class as per usual. Ruby tried to keep her mind in the room but it began to wander to the assignment and everything that could go wrong, there was no sign yet of any odd goings on but they had been reassured that something was coming.

When the bell rang again Ruby packed her things away and began making her way out of class, it was time for lunch and she was starving.

Feeling a hand clamp around her upper arm, Ruby was prepared to come face to face with Jude. Instead, she came face to face with a girl she'd never met before, the face was familiar as she was sure she'd seen her in the history class on Monday.

"Stay away from my boyfriend." She growled low and menacingly in Ruby's face. This was obviously scare tactics to keep Ruby in her place, it was too bad though that Ruby didn't want to be put in her place today or anything other day. She was already trying hard enough as it were to fit into this ridiculous excuse of a high school, the last thing she needed was the wannabe queen of the school getting in her face.

Taking hold of the hand Ruby pulled it away from her arm, which was a little difficult as the strange girl had a strong hold on her. But Ruby was stronger, once she'd detached the offending arm from where it had been restraining her Ruby squeezed it hard enough to make the she-wolf wince in pain.

"Listen good and proper, touch me again and I'll break your hand. Do you hear me? I'm not scared of you or anyone else in this town and I sure as sh*t am not interested in dating. So...is it Jude? You can keep that big sack of potatoes to yourself." Ruby gave one more hard squeeze to emphasize she meant business, the one thing she couldn't stand a stupidity was bullying and she'd stamp it out if she could.

Letting go of the offending hand Ruby watched the girl as she stood there rubbing it, she knew she'd be facing backlash for this later on but didn't care at that moment.

"Rebecca is everything okay here?" Ruby couldn't help but wonder if the history teacher purposefully found trouble, she was also not surprised to see the girl in front of her tear up and begin acting like the drama queen she undoubtedly was.

"No, this girl hurt me! I have to go to the nurse now and make sure my hand isn't broken," 'the audacity of this girl,' Ruby thought as she watched the girl's features morph from one of an aggressor to absolute victim in the blink of an eye.

"New girl, come with me. Go get yourself seen to Rebecca." Dragging her feet, Ruby turned to follow Fysher. She absolutely disliked two things in teenagers, stupidity and meanness. Which apparently the top two students in this school had spade-loads full.

Wondering where they were headed to Ruby wasn't surprised to see that Fysher walked through the history classroom door. He motioned for her to come through before closing the door shut behind him, he looked a little stressed about something but she wasn't going to ask.

"Not even through the first week and you're getting yourself into trouble, is this some kind of game to you? See how many schools you can be expelled from? I looked through the records from your supposed old school and guess what I found? No record for a Ruby or Oliver Estbury having ever existed. So it makes me wonder just who you are and what you're doing here." Inwardly Ruby groaned, she was right from the very first moment she'd seen him. This guy was too curious for his own good and keeping him out of the loop was likely going to cause huge issues further down the track.

As team leader of this mission, it was up to her if she wanted to inform the local mythical population of their work in the area. Obviously, she would need to make sure that he was trustworthy before she divulged any of the information but if he kept up with his snooping he'd find something eventually.

It was his ability to time walk that really worried Ruby, he could go back in time to the conversation last night about the mission and effectively spy on them. She was sure he hadn't yet as she hadn't felt his presence the other night but it was something to be aware of and maybe something that Jonah could ward against.

"I don't know what you're talking about sir, Oli and I were homeschooled right up until our mom died. That's why we moved here, dad was pretty torn up and couldn't deal with big city living anymore so he scouted a small town we could finish high school in and make friends or whatever. There won't be many records and I don't know why you thought we went to another high school before this one, you might have to check our records again." It was the cover story she, Oliver and Ben had created before they'd moved into town and it seemed like a water-tight story that everyone could remember easily.

"I don't believe you but you're obviously not going to give me the answers I need, you can go now. But don't mess with my sister again or you'll have me to deal with." Sister? That would explain the massive soft spot he had for bullying, Ruby wondered how many other pack members had been bullied by the bratty sister.

"That would explain why she acts like a b*tch, you might want to spy on her instead of me. She's about as friendly as a starved and abused dog, turn your back and she'll bite you in the ass. Have a good day sir, see you tomorrow." Ruby exited the room before Fysher could add anything else to the conversation, that whole encounter left her unsettled and it carried through the rest of the day.

When she and Oliver arrived home her new car was sitting in the driveway, she groaned. It was the total opposite of what she wanted and cursed Ben as she climbed out of Oliver's car and headed towards her new...thing.

"I'll swap you, Ruby? This thing will get me in with everyone else, besides it'd fit your image if you actually had your cool brother's hand-me-down car." Ruby knew that Oli was just saying anything to get her to agree, but it wasn't such a bad idea. It would enhance both their images, Oliver would be elevated to the hottest student in school and Ruby would just be the forgotten sister.

"We'll talk inside, I need Jonah here right now." The house needed to be Fysher proofed before they could continue on, the last thing she needed was Mr Fysher eavesdropping on sensitive conversations.

"Hey! You guys are finally back, good to see you all." Ruby was surprised to see Jonah sitting at the kitchen counter with Benedict, there were a few papers scattered across the bar that she was interested in looking at later but it would have to wait a while.

"I need you to put a few spells over the house, we've got a time walker at school that is getting way too nosy for his own good." Jonah began nodding as she spoke but seemed in no rush to do her bidding, Ruby assumed it was already done and relaxed a little as she came around to peer over Jonah's shoulder.

"Ben and I have just been hashing out a few things, I spelled the house the day you guys moved in. Sorry, I haven't swung by sooner, my boss has been on my *ss hard these last few days. I do such good work he wants me to take on more hours but I don't really want to. Also, here's my folder." Jonah held out the plan manila folder to Ruby, she took it with some interest.

Often before an assignment started they were each handed their personalities in folders, to the outside world it would be a folder of blank papers. But with the help of the protector's power, the papers came to life and filled with all sorts of information that changed constantly to fit the stories that they told people out in the real world.

"Ohh you've been to jail, that's different. You're 27, your name is Carlos Kelly...interesting name choice. Oh, how do you play a recovering crack addict? You haven't actually tried it, have you?" Ruby knew the answer before she'd even asked the question. Jonah would never put himself through that sort of hell just to 'research' a role that was really temporary.

"Yeah it's a different sort of role they've given me, but it was easy to slip into. A bit of magic here and there and I look like a menacing sort of guy, tat's seem to speak volumes in this town. People don't really like them, well the humans don't anyway. I've seen Farf once in a while, she mustn't remember me because she walks right past me on the street. Either that or she's waiting for the team leader to make contact, whoever thought up her role had a stroke of genius. She blends in well." Ruby was pleased to hear that at least Jonah and Farf were and had blended in well without many or any questioning their being there.

"Speaking of blending in, I think I've made an enemy in the local football star and his cheerleading girlfriend. If I don't start giving the alpha answers to his questions too I'm going to end up making him an enemy too, he's already snooped through mine and Olivers learning records." Ben and Oliver gave a collective groan as Oli went straight to the fridge again and moaned when he saw several things missing.

"Uh yeah, sorry I ate your guy's food. It's been pretty tough living on low wages so when I opened the fridge and saw everything I pigged out." Ruby rolled her eyes, Jonah still didn't know how to save his money after all these years? She supposed it wasn't unexpected, he usually ended up with the really low paying jobs but it still didn't explain all the expensive cars he splurged on from time to time.

"It's fine, we'll go get more food tonight. Whose cooking? Jonah are you going to integrate into this family somehow or will you pop in now and again? We need to figure out plausible relationships to explain why you and Farf will be here a lot." Everyone agreed, Ruby hated thinking these things up as it meant a little more creativity than she was used to but it was part of her job so needed to be done.

"Yeah I'll think something up, later on, maybe I'm your long-lost half-brother that your dead mom never mentioned." Oh, Ruby liked the sound of that excuse. It would explain a few of the differences between them and it wasn't too much of a stretch of the imagination when looking at Jonah's physical appearance compared with Oliver.

"I'll come by from time to time but I won't eat you guys out of house and home." Everyone laughed as they knew that was the joke of the century, Jonah had a habit of eating everything out of their houses on most assignments. It would be interesting to see how everyone else handled the warlock, last she heard Catrice wasn't speaking to him for some unknown reason.

"Okay good. Oh and Oliver is going to have my car while I inherit his bucket of bolts, thanks for the wrong car Ben." Ben groaned and shrugged his shoulders at the same time, Ruby did realize she had given him too vague of a description. But what the heck was a teenage girl supposed to do with a sports car?

"Hey you said nothing too flashy, cars get pretty flashy for such a small town." Ruby wondered if they should revise the 'small town' tag they'd labelled Samson with. It was more like a small city, large town sort of living but Ruby wasn't complaining. She still came out the other end with a perfectly serviceable vehicle that would suit her image better than the Mustang.

"You're right and anyway it doesn't matter, it's helping us in the long run. I just hope you're ready for some major fan-girls with that thing Oli. Anyway okay, grocery run. Who's going to do it and whose cooking dinner tonight? Don't make me start a roster of things, I'm not cooking every night." Sometimes Ruby felt that it was expected of her to cook, she was the oldest and had a fair few bomb proof recipes up her sleeve but she wasn't a huge fan of cooking anyways.

"I'll grab the groceries, it'll give me a chance to test out the new car. Ben, come for a ride." Ben didn't argue, Ruby thought it was best he get out of the house for a while.

Once the two were gone Ruby sat down next to Jonah, "what the heck are we going to do about this nosy alpha? I was going to put Ben on his case but it looks like Ben doesn't really want to interact with the general population. How do I bring the guy into the fold without freaking him out? Because we both know that a know-it-all like this guy is probably going to freak out when he finds out the Boogeyman is real." Groaning at the thought of the Boogeyman Ruby wanted to hide, she hated that she was likened to the Boogeyman at least the shifter version of that.

"I dunno Rube's, that's why you're the leader. I'd probably have spilled my guts by now, you'll think of something. You're the most tactful out of any of us, just don't leave it too long. This guy has the potential to end up in the wrong hands if we keep shutting him out." Again Ruby groaned, she knew exactly what Jonah was talking about and better yet who he was talking about. She just hoped that what she had to tell Fysher wouldn't scare him sh*tless.

"How'd I know you were going to say that?" Ruby buried her face in her hands as she thought over everything that needed doing.

This was going to be a long few weeks.
