Chapter Twelve

Quinn's POV

As it turns out, Furui wasn't far from where we were. We reached it just after sundown. As we docked, a Fey man came up to us. "Hello, What brings you to Furui?" he asked in Fey, looking annoyed. "Uh..." Cale started. "We are looking for our friends. Did you see four people pass through here?" I asked in Fey. "They are with Carson," the man told us. "Where can we find this Carson?" I asked. "Carson's inn is called Merriment Inn and it is in the center of town, but be careful. The killing starts at midnight," the man told us solemnly. My blood ran cold. "Killing?! What do you mean?!" I cried, panicking. This was bad. "Quinn, what's going on?" Cale asked. "Carson was a Fey who's wings were cut off by a human. Now he kills any humans who enter Furui," the man told me, shooting Cale a dirty look. No, no, no! I grabbed Cale's arm and pulled him along further into Furui. "What?! What was that all about?!" Cale yelled, "I'm really getting tired of you having conversations in other languages." "Someone took our friends in, and they plan on killing them at midnight," I explained, pulling him harder. "When is midnight?" Cale asked, panic creeping into his voice. "Not sure, but we better hurry," I informed him. Cale nodded Neither of us wanted our friends to be killed.

Zia's POV

I wasn't really looking forward to the "party." I assumed it would be really boring. But I got ready along with everyone else. Kiera even did my hair in a braid (mostly because she wanted to). When we went downstairs to the party, there was a band of Faeries in the corner and people were dancing. There was food to one side. "Alright, I'll admit, this seems pretty enjoyable," I said. "Ha," Flint replied. He'd straightened his hair a little bit. Kiera had put some of her hair into a small bun, with the rest still running down her back. Alan hadn't really done anything, though it was hard to blame him. There really wasn't much to do with his curly hair. "Come on, let's dance," Kiera called. "Sorry, but I'm going after the food," Flint told us, making beeline for the food tables. I laughed. "I'm going to follow him. I'm hungry too," I announced following him. "I don't know how to dance," Alan told her. "Well, you can at least try," Kiera responded, pulling him into the dance floor. I arrived at the door table where Flint was already eating. "Anything good?" I asked. "Everything's good. I love Fey food," he told me, with his mouth partially full. "Fey food is pretty good," I agreed, grabbing a cream puff from a stack of them. They were delicious. "Good, huh?" Flint prompted. "Absolutely," I agreed, getting more. Flint laughed. I looked out and saw that Alan was successfully dancing. Kiera was dancing nearby. "You planning on dancing?" Flint asked. "No, not really. I was just going to listen to the music and eat these cream puffs," I admitted, grabbing another. "Well can you go elsewhere? I'm trying to develop a relationship with this food," he told me. I laughed. "Well then I'll just take this and go then," I said, grabbing the creek puffs and walking towards the corner of the room. Flint followed shortly after with a tray of a few dozen varieties of Fey treats. "I thought you were having a romantic relationship with your food," I accused him. "I was but you looked lonely over there so I brought you some food," Flint stated. I rolled my eyes at him, taking some food. Just then, Carson cane out. "Our special guests, will you please come forward," he requested, gesturing to Flint, Kiera, Alan and I. I looked at Flint. He shrugged, walking towards Carson. I followed. "We want our guests to have a special part in our fun tonight," Carson announced, smiling, though I wasn't sure why. Then he added, "It is midnight after all."

Cale's POV

"How pathetic are we? We have been defeated by a couple of streets. We are so helplessly lost we don't even know how lost we really are," I ranted, pausing at another street corner. "Do you know where we are?" I asked Quinn. "No. If we were in Dairiseki, I would know exactly where we were, but I've never actually been to Furui before, so no. I don't know where we are," Quinn explained impatiently, seeing as that was the third time I'd asked. "Can't you like sense them or something?" I asked, also for the third time. "One, there are so many people here that it's difficult to pick them out. Two, most of the buildings here are made with Ishi-Ishi, a magic rock that was common when Furui was built but is now extremely rare. Ishi-Ishi disorients my sensing ability. With the amount here, my sensing ability is completely off. It's like seeing one thing but feeling another and wondering which to believe," Quinn explained. "Great. Xan, you have any ideas?" I asked my sword. "-. --- / --. --- --- -.. / .-.. ..- -.-. -.-" Xan replied. "No, good luck," Quinn translated. I kicked a rock. All of the Feys here seemed to hate us and completely avoided us, so we couldn't ask for directions. "We'll never find them," I muttered. "Don't say that," Quinn argued. Before I could correct him, a Fey woman ran past us, muttering under her breath, "Carson's gonna kill me for being late." I locked eyes with Quinn. Carson, I mouthed. Quinn nodded. We took off after the running woman.

Flint's POV

"Midnight? What about it?" I asked. Before anyone could answer, a woman ran in the Inn. "Olivia! Where were you?!" Carson called. "Sorry sir," Olivia apologized. "Well, to answer your question," stated Carson, pulling a knife from his pocket, "We start killing at midnight." I tried to light my hands on fire, but it didn't work. "You'll see that your Akus don't work. The high density Ishi-Ishi rocks block prevent all Akus from working. So nothing you do can stop us," Carson announced. The rest of the people pulled out weapons as well. Our group huddled closer. Carson looked at Zia. He grinned. "I'll kill you first," he announced. I looked around. There was nothing to defend ourselves with. Carson stabbed at Zia... but it was blocked... by a sword. "We leave you alone for five minutes and this is what you get into. Jeez," came a familiar voice. "A nice saying, but it doesn't work, because we've been gone for more than a day, and much more to than five minutes," came another familiar voice. "There you guys are. Finally," I told them, grinning. Cale shrugged. "We were just chilling  on the beach, sailing, you know, enjoying our lives," Cale said. Quinn gave him a look. "Speak for yourself. We crashed on that beach, I was burned by stray lava, the boat was destroyed, I nearly drowned, you were nearly killed by falrons, and we got so lost we barely made it here. I do not call that enjoying life," Quinn stated. Cale laughed. Carson looked furious. "KILL THEM!" he screamed. "Run?" I suggested. "Running is good," Cale agreed. Then we ran like heck. We ran down the street and made a beeline for the woods. "How many woods are in Kurea?!" Cale cried. "A lot," Quinn answered. We ran into the woods. "I hope we're going the right way," noted Alan. "We are," I promised. We stopped. "We've lost them," Quinn announced. "Good. We should rest here and head to the Flamen tribe in the morning," Zia suggested. "I agree," Cale agreed. "Great! I love sleep!" I yelled. "So if you had to choose between food and sleep, which would you choose?" Zia asked. "How dare you make me choose," I said, dramatically faking horror. Kiera came forward towards Cale and Quinn. "I-I'm glad your back," she told them smiling. Cale nodded. "Glad to be back," he told her. She gave him a quick hug. Then she gave Quinn a hug. He froze, surprised. "Oh," she gasped, pulling away, "Sorry." "It-it's ok," Quinn said. He actually looked like he meant it. "Well, goodnight y'all!" I called, hitting the ground and falling asleep.

Cale's POV

"That's it I'm done," Quinn told me. I was trying to talk to my sword and Quinn was the only one who could understand Morse Code. "Then how am I supposed to talk to Xan?" I asked him. "I'm going to teach you Morse Code," Quinn announced. I looked around. Everyone else was asleep on the ground. "Ok..." I started. I wasn't sure about this. He pulled out a piece of paper and a pencil and wrote down the Morse Code of each letter. We spent a half our figuring out how to understand the sword, and I think I got it. And if I failed, there was always the cheat sheet Quinn made me. "Well, you seem to have it. I'm going to go," Quinn told me, standing up. "Wait, where are you going?" I asked. "To stretch," he stated vaguely. I knew he was going to stretch his wings. "Alright, just get back safely. If you die and don't come back, I didn't know you were leaving, ok?" I asked. He grinned. "Sure," Quinn agreed. Then he took off. I waited for an hour until he returned. He lied down and fell asleep. Goodnight, I thought. Then I drifted to sleep as well.

Woo-hoo! I'm so tired. Whatever.
Goodnight (for me)
