| Prologue | When Heroes Fall {Map Of World}
Welcome to the new version of Legends Never Fade and for the people who read the previous version of this book, let me say that this book is gonna be very different! Same general idea, different storyline direction entirely. Whether or not you want to continue reading the book is completely up to you, but the previous version will be deleted and just so this is clear because a lot of you drew conclusions that LNF is connected to my other books something.
LNF is in its own universe altogether! It has no correlation with any of my other stories once so ever. But enjoy! This is probably one of my best war scenes. Also know that I've had the flu for the past two days, so I'm getting better! 104 to 101, so I'm feeling better. Just taking a while.....
Update day for this story is Monday and no that doesn't mean a new chapter will come out this Monday.

"Warriors aren't the ones that always win, but the ones that always fight."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was chaos, the cries of the injured, steel clashing against steel and the storm overhead raging on, striking bolts of light on the ground below it accompanied with a downpour making visibility quite low. But what was it? Saneria Kingdom, a kingdom with streets once filled with joy and laughter now flooded with fear and littered with death and stained red.
What started as a nice day turned into an invasion by none other than the Sky Army's enemy, the Squid King, and his army. Taken by surprise, the Sky Army is too far away to aid, forcing the royal army inside the kingdom as the only line of defense, but they are dropping like flies, being pushed back more and more making it hard to determine what was the frontline and isn't.
Caught in the middle of this massacre is the Sky Army's Commander and the two Generals of the Army. Commander Adam Skylen, General Tyler Ellis, and General Jason Probst, three people who at first were only summoned before the King of Saneria to work through a conflict, three hours after they arrived in the palace, the invasion started. Commander Skylen is trying desperately to work with the Sanerian's Royal Army, but their army is nothing like the Sky Army's making it difficult to lead them at all but he refused to give up.
He was on a bridge, stuck fighting off attacker after the attacker, it didn't help them that most of Saneria is in the ocean. The Commander was yelling orders, trying to stay alive best he can. But he is also trying to find his two Generals, he knows where one is, the other he has no idea. The Kingdom isn't a small one, covers a large area, so getting messages to each soldier makes it hard and makes getting lost easier.
The Commander was decorated in cuts, rips in his dark-colored clothing and blood staining his colors and his tanned skin. He held duel swords, an dark purple amethyst amulet with gold binding on a gold chain hung around his neck as his dark brown eyes scanned the area around him. He grabbed the wooden railing, he needed to get off the bridge, but both sides presented death to him, so he picked one, he only took around three steps before he was attacked again. He armor was broken to the point it fell off, his muscles were tired and his reflexes crippled due to the exhaustion of fighting. He isn't sure how much longer he can go on, he felt tentacles wrap around his neck and ankle, his ankle was yanked out from under him, making him fall forward onto the floor, he yelped. He struggled, stabbing them off him, but more jumped on him, holding him down.
"Commander!" He heard a voice shout. The squids were taken off him, killed or kicked off so Adam could get back on his feet, seeing two recruits from his own army here. Adam looked at them.
"Recruits," Adam said. They were on both sides of him, letting him have time to catch his breath. He leaned against the railing, panting. "You don't know how glad I am to see you." They both smiled.
"We're glad to see you as well, there is a message on the way to the base as we speak for reinforcements." The recruit said as they killed a squid. Adam looked at them.
"How many recruits are here now?"
"Thirty-five." They said.
"Commanding officers?" Adam asked.
"Lieutenant Generals Mitchell and Jerome. We also have a report." The recruit said. Adam held both of his swords in his hands loosely.
"Alright, hit me with it," Adam said helping them fight off squids.
"General Jason was last seen by the palace, General Tyler is near the south side of the city. Both Lieutenants are on the east side. They--Wait that's not a Squid Kingdom crest." The recruit said. Adam looked at them, taking the weapon from them, staring at it. He gripped it.
"Of course. I need to get to General Ty, now." They both nodded.
"We'll help you there--"
"No, I want you two to help the evacuation of the citizens. As much as I hate to say this, there is no winning this battle, the squids are receiving aid from some outside force that we cannot beat currently. So stand on your guard for advanced weaponry. Save as many citizens you can got it?" Adam asked. The two recruits nodded.
"Yes, Commander Skylen." They said. Adam nods.
"Alright, go," Adam said. They went their separate ways, Adam climbing up on the railing, putting his swords in their sheaths on his back. He climbed up onto the roofing of the bridge. He saw squids following his led, he stood, running east. 'Ty is on the south side of the city, I'm east, so I should find him easy.' He thought. Being up high gave him the chance to see just how bad things were, but after being a Commander to an army base for as long as he had, the sight of tons of corpses didn't faze him anymore. He saw squids blocking the end of the roof, he pulled out one of his swords, holding it loosely in his hand as they pointed weapons at him. He favored the right side, knocking the weapons to the side with his sword and slicing them, pushing through them and jumping off the roof, he landed on his feet, taking off running. He knows better than to stay in one spot in a warzone.
Adam pushed through the squids, cutting them down as they either attacked him or got in his way. It got to the point that he saw an arrow strike one down in front of him, his eyes looking to the rooftops of the building as he ran, seeing Mitch had taken a post on the rooftops, Jerome on the ground. Adam ran past them, he didn't want to distract them, especially Jerome who was in his beast form currently. It didn't take long for Adam to make it to the south side of the city and it wasn't hard finding Ty. Adam cut down a squid, going towards Ty.
"6 o'clock, Ty!" Adam shouted before Ty turned on his heels, blocking a sword with his and Adam going around him, killing a squid hybrid. Ty smiled.
"Thanks, Sky," Ty said. Adam looked at him, smiling a bit, but loses it, so does Ty. Adam looked around, gritting his teeth together, he looks at Ty, he pulls out the weapon he found off of the dead squid.
"Recognize this crest?" Adam asked him. Ty took the weapon, looking at it as Adam killed another squid, Ty nodded.
"Yeah, but I've never seen a weapon like this before. Where did you find this?" Ty asked. Adam took the weapon from him, putting it in his pocket.
"Tell you later, right now, I want to call a retreat," Adam said. Ty's eyes widen a bit.
"A retreat but...." Ty trailed off. Adam kills more squids, Ty then nods, agreeing. 'The Squid King attacked right before the plan for new defenses could be approved by the King. He attacked when Saneria was the most vulnerable. Saneria can't survive a hit like this and the Squid King knew that.' Ty thought. Ty looked at Adam, he nods. "Alright, that's for the best." Ty stepped back. "I'll cover the east and north side of the kingdom, you cover the south and west." Adam nods, agreeing.
"Got it, go." He said. Ty took off running. Adam looked around. "Retreat! Recruits! Fall back to the base!" Adam cut down a squid, recruits looking at him, confused but ran for it. Adam started running, cutting down anyone that attacks him, he ran to the west side, shouting the order again but stopped running when he saw three recruits standing in front of a figure who was laying on the ground with two recruits on their knees beside them, looking worried. Adam went over to them. "What happened? Who's hurt?"
"It's General Seto! We saw him being dragged away by squids, no one saw what happened but he's been unconscious the entire time!" The recruit said. Adam's eyes widen for a second before he moved through the recruits and went down beside Seto. Cuts were scattered, rips in his clothing, blood staining his clothes, but what Adam saw first was the blood that stained half his face and the recruit holding a blood-soaked cloth against his head, the recruit obviously freaking out.
"I-I can't stop the bleeding I do--" Adam grabbed the recruit by their arms, turning them towards him.
"Hey, get a hold of yourself! I know this is really bad but you aren't helping him by freaking out on him. Stay calm, only focus on slowing the bleeding. Alright? Can you do that?" Adam asked. The recruit hesitated before they nodded.
"Y-Yeah." They said.
"Great," Adam said. He lets go of them, leaning back and looking for another recruit. "Go get Jerome now." They nod and run off. Adam looks at Seto. "We can't wait for medevac, he needs a doctor now." Adam looked at Seto's other injuries, he inspected them. 'These...These are magically inflicted. But the Squid Kingdom has no magic aid from anyone...that I know of at least.' Adam thought.
"Commander!"
Adam looked up seeing a large beast running towards them, Adam smiled a bit, he looked at the recruits.
"Dress his wound," Adam said standing up and going in front of the beast. The beast shifted from an animal to a man, they looked behind Adam.
"How bad is he?"
"Bad, Jerome. I need you to take him to the base and send a message to Laenadur, they are his best shot. He's lost a lot of blood." Adam said. Jerome nods.
"Alright," Jerome said before he shifted back down to a beast, Adam went over to Seto, kneeling down.
"Got it?" Adam asked looking at the makeshift bandage around Seto's head. The recruit nods.
"Yeah." They said. Adam picked Seto up, holding him in his arms.
"You're going with him, make sure he doesn't fall off and keep the pressure on that wound," Adam told the recruit. Adam heard a groan, he looked at Seto, whose head was rested against his shoulder. "Welcome back, Seto." Seto coughed, not opening his eyes.
"Wha....wha happe..." Seto weakly mumbled. The recruits moved with Adam, protecting him and Jerome from the squids. Adam gripped Seto's arm.
"You're done fighting for a while, that's what happened," Adam answered. Seto coughed again, he was gonna argue back but he slipped out of consciousness again. The recruit jumped up on the beast's back, Adam putting Seto in front of them, Adam grabbed the recruit's arm as they grabbed Seto. "You alright?" They looked at him and nodded.
"Y-Yeah...sorry for f-freaking out." They said making Adam smile a bit.
"It's alright, just make sure he or you doesn't fall off. Got it?" Adam asked. They nodded.
"Yes, Commander." They said. Adam let go of their arm, looking at the recruits as he pulled his dual swords out.
"Let's clear a path," Adam said.
"Yes, sir!"
*Twenty Minutes Later*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ty and the recruits were fighting off the squids from exiting the kingdom, waiting for Adam to come out. But it got the point that Ty wanted to go in and see what was going on. Mitch had explained what happened with Seto, but that was twenty minutes ago. Ty gripped his sword. 'That's it! I'm going in!' Ty thought. He looked around, seeing Sky Army horses, he ran over to them, grabbing onto reins and climbing up on their saddle. Ty noticed recruits doing the same.
"We're not letting you go in there alone, General!" They said making Ty smile. Ty turned his horse towards the gate.
"Let's go then!" Ty said before tapping his horses' sides and have it take off back into the kingdom. The recruits came up beside Ty, Ty glanced at them. "We're looking for Commander Skylen! That's it!" They all nod. Ty's eyes were actively looking, steering his horse and cutting down the squids from hurting his horse, it only took him about five minutes before they reached a point in the kingdom where the squids suddenly disappeared from their sight making Ty uneasy. 'Where are they?' He thought.
"General!" A recruit said. Ty looked up ahead, his eyes widen a bit.
"There he is! Come on!" Ty said. Ty got off his horse once he was beside Adam who was laying on the ground, he fell to his knees, the recruits circling around them. Adam had three arrows in his back, Ty looked at them. He grabbed Adam's arm, putting it around his neck. "Adam, come on man, you awake?" Ty heard him cough, making him hopeful, he was able to get Adam on his knees, though leaning into him for support. Ty pushed against Adam's chest to keep him from falling forward.
"N-No....invis...." Adam coughed, coughing up blood. Ty looked at him.
"What? What are you--"
"General!" A recruit shouted right before Ty saw a shadow standing over him making his eyes widen in fear. He was preparing himself to feel pain, but all he felt was being yanked down on his stomach, feeling a figure fall against his side and hear the recruits scream.
"COMMANDER!"
