There was a buzz in the ballroom as all the royals and subjects talked and laughed together. Jaxon was standing one side with his friends, the princes, Eckard, Kyle, Roan and Teran. They were talking about everything and about nothing, or so it seemed. Jaxon was in the middle of a sentence when he noticed Cora, the girl he loved since he was a boy and the princess of the sea, enter the room. His friends immediately turned around to see what he was looking at, and when they spotted their cousin they shared knowing looks. Only a blind man could not see the love Jaxon had for Cora, but love is never easy, for she is the princess of the sea with duties and responsibilities and he, he was a mere knight.

Jaxon excused himself from the group before hurrying to Cora’s side.

“Would you allow me a dance?” he asked her and she nodded eagerly with a smile. He swept her in his arms before they swirled around. For a moment he forgot that she was a princess and he was a normal boy. Once the dance was over he pulled her outside towards the gardens. They sat down on a bench as they admired the starry sky. Jaxon stole glances at Cora and he wondered if it was the right time to tell her about his feelings.

“Cora…” he started to say at the same time she said “Jaxon…” they both started to laugh before they had a small disagreement on who should speak first.

“Please Cora, go first,” Jaxon said with a dimpled smile that Cora loved, but she couldn’t tell him that. She gave him a small smile before she let out a sigh.

“Father said that a prince from another part of the ocean is coming to Oceania. He wants me to meet him,” She said and all Jaxon could manage to say was a small ‘oh’.

“Is this what you want?” He asked.

“Of course not Jax, my heart was given to someone else a long time ago, but you know that it wasn’t meant to be,” she said. Tears gather in her eyes before she mumbled a small sorry and dashed off. Jaxon had half a mind to run after her but he knew she was right, she belonged in the sea and he belonged on the land. They weren’t meant to be.

Jaxon decided to go on a walk when he heard a small ‘help’. Being the person he was, he immediately investigated where the sound was coming from. He followed the voice calling for help until he found a small Pixie trapped in a cage. He immediately rushed to the cage and started to untangled the thread that kept the cage shut. Once he was finished he helped the small Pixie out.

“You saved my life,” the pixie said, the pixie was a boy with blonde hair and piercing blue eyes, he had blue wings that allowed him to flutter around Jaxon. He was the size of Jaxon’s hand and Jaxon admired the small pixie, never in his life has he ever seen a creature like this.

“Thank you from saving my life,” The pixie said.

“You’re welcome,” Jaxon replied.

“I was trapped there by pixie poachers, they wanted to steal my powers,” The pixie explained as he stood on Jaxon’s shoulder while Jaxon walked back to the Ocean palace.

“That must have been dreadful,” Jaxon commented to which the pixie agreed.

“It was. But luckily you saved my life. I’m prince Sethen, the prince of the pixie. And because you saved my life I will grant you one wish,” Sethen said.

“Any wish?” Jaxon asked and Sethen nodded enthusiastically.

“You see, I’ve loved this girl since I was a boy and she is the princess of the sea. We are separated and can’t be together. So I wish to become a merman so that I may be with her,” Jaxon said.

“Your wish is my command, from this day forth whenever you step into the ocean your legs will be replaced by a tail,” Sethen said and Jaxon felt something change within him.

“Thank you.” Jaxon said.

“You’re welcome, but if you would excuse, I fear my people might be worried. Till we meet again Jaxon,” The pixie prince said before he fluttered away.

Jaxon watched him fly away before he ran to the dock, when he arrived he saw a lone figure standing on the edge of the dock, as he got closer he realised that it was Cora. He could hear her sniffling, she was crying still.

He approached her softly before he called her name, when she heard his voice she quickly wiped away her tears before facing him.

“I’m sorry, Jax. Life is so unfair. I love you so much that it hurts and I know I haven’t been forthcoming about my feelings, but I was scared. I’m still. I loved you for a long time and the thought of not being able to love you scares me,” She said as Jaxon quickly grabbed her in a hug. She buried her face into his chest as her sobbing calmed down.

“Can I show you something?” Jaxon asked after a while and Cora nodded.

Jaxon pulled away from her before giving her a smile. He jumped into the ocean as he hoped that his wish would come true, splashing Cora in the process. As soon as he made contact with the ocean he felt a tingling sensation before he looked down to see that he had no legs anymore but a red tail.

Cora stared at Jaxon in disbelief.

“How?” she asked and Jaxon told her what had happened.

“I was changed by wishes,” He said. Cora jumped in the ocean too and they both swam to the underwater palace. She didn’t want a prince, she wanted Jaxon. And Jaxon was a merman now all because he was changed by a wish.

His life was forever changed all because off a simple wish…
