Chapter 1 I sing about broken hearts, you fix them

A/N: So...here is something different that I've been working on. I've become obsessed with the show Chicago Med and particularly the Cajun dreamboat known as Crockett Marcel xD I hope you guys are into something different. I'm just thrilled to have been able to write SOMETHING while going through a huge depressive episode. I hope y'all enjoy. Please let me know <3 also enjoy the little music in me easter egg I threw in there xD

Dr. Crockett Marcel pressed his forehead against the cool metal of his locker. His jaw was clenched and his fist was balled. Today had been especially hard for him, he made the wrong choice, and got a teenage patient to agree that surgery was his best option only to have the young boy die on the table halfway through the surgery. It wasn't supposed to happen this way. Jack Daytons 2.0 AI system was supposed to assist without flaws, but it had truly failed him today, just as he felt he failed that boy, and his parents by guaranteeing them that surgery was his best bet.

The door to the staff lounge squeaked open, followed by an exhausted grunt from a coworker.
Crocket adjusted himself and turned his head to face his coworker, Will Halstead. Will made eye contact with Crockett and frowned.
"I feel bad even groaning in despair compared to the day you had. I heard about Jason. It was a tough call to make. Don't let it get to you." Will said.
"That boy could have walked out of here within a week had I not convinced him that surgery was the best approach." Crockett said and shook his head.
"And it would have been, had 2.0 not malfunctioned, its a new system its bound to have its flaws. I'm really sorry that what happened, happened but it isn't your fault." Will said.
"Unfortunately I just don't see it that way." Crockett said and started walking out.

"Hey wait." Will said. "A bunch of us are going to Mollys, this really popular singer on youtube is supposed to be there tonight, I think she's from Louisiana or something, Hannah thinks shes really good." Will shrugged. "Why don't you come out with us? Get a few drinks to take your mind off of things."
"I don't know. It's been a long day, I'm exhausted." Crockett sighed.
"All the more reason to come out. Just stay for a couple songs, and if she's no good and you still want to go home I won't protest." Will said.
"What is your real motive for me coming out with you tonight?" Crockett asked. "Because after Natalie..you and I haven't exactly been good friends." Crockett raised an eyebrow in suspicion.

Will sighed. "I honestly thought we were past that. I don't have an ulterior motive here, I just see a coworker having a rough night and wanted to invite him to come out and loosen up a bit. Besides that new nurse you've been oogling is going." Will winked.
Crockett shook his head and took a deep breath.
"Fine, I'll go. But let me make one thing clear to you. I don't oogle. Anyone." Crockett said.

Will chuckled.

"Whatever you say."

—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Crockett parked his car in the parking lot of Mollys, he noticed people where crowding around an old motorcycle taking pictures. He got out of his car, and approached Will who was among the crowd admiring the motorcycle.
"Look at that bike man." Will said. Crockett looked at the bike, it was an old 1970s Harley that had been fixed up. He knew this bike. He knew it well. He couldn't help but crack a smile as a memory began playing in his head like a movie.

It was hot, one of the hottest summers Crockett could remember experiencing in his youth. He pulled up into the driveway of the town Preacher Benoit Boudreaux. Those close to him called him Ben, or Benny. Being that Crockett was just a teenager, he called him Mr. Boudreaux, but the Preacher wasn't who he was here to see. It was his daughter. Crockett got out of his car and walked up the drive. The garage door was wide open, there was an old black Harley Davidson in the driveway that looked like it could fall apart if the wind hit it just right. Crockett raised an eyebrow.

"Hey Crock."
Crockett looked up. There she was, Veronica Boudreaux, her long dirty blonde hair was braided on one side, she wore a backwards baseball cap that she had stolen from him their freshman year. She wore a white tee shirt that was stained to the Gods with oil and grease, her blue jean overall shorts that were only buttoned on one side were in the same condition. She wore black combat boots that she always wore, and if her mama would have let her, she'd be wearing them with her Sunday dresses at church. She smiled at him, flashing her pearly whites. She wiggled her black grease-stained fingers at him.

"What's this?" Crockett gestured to the motorcycle.
"Uncle Xavier brought it to me this morning. He said he was just going to sell it for scrap metal but told me if I could fix it up I could keep it." She grinned.
"This is going to take some serious work Ronnie. Does it even run?" Crockett asked.
"At the moment, no. But by the end of summer, she will."
Crockett chuckled.
"What's your mama think of this?" He asked.
Ronnie cringed.
"She aint happy about it. Dads been trying to calm her down all morning, but he isn't exactly happy with it either." She said with a smirk. "They're both ready to tear Uncle Xaiver a new one, but..just look at her." Ronnie grinned looking at the motorcycle.
"I'm afraid to look too hard or it might turn to dust. How old is this thing?" Crockett asked.
"Its only from the early 70s, it just hasn't been kept in the greatest condition. But we can fix it."
"Oh We?" Crockett asked.
"Yeah, We. Grab a wrench." Ronnie smirked.

They had worked well into the afternoon on the bike. The door inside the garage opened.
"Veronica come on inside out of this heat for a while. Oh! Hello Crockett, would you like to come in for some lunch?"
"Yes Ma'am." Crockett answered.
"Ah come on Mama can't you see we are busy?" Ronnie asked. Crockett cringed. Dorothy, "Dotty" Boudreaux was a kind natured woman, but like any other mother she did not like her authority to be questioned and just like his mother, all she had to do was give a look which usually meant fix your attitude before I fix it for you.
Ronnie looked up at her mother and sighed and tossed the grease-stained towel on the ground.
"You two are a mess. Wash up before coming to the table." Dotty said.
"Yes Ma'am." Ronnie muttered and waited for her mom to walk inside before making a face at her.
"One of these days you are going to push that woman too far and end up at the bottom of the swamp." Crockett said.
"Some Days I'd rather fight a Gator than fight with her." Ronnie smirked and wiped the sweat off of her forehead with the back of her hand, leaving a large grease stain across her forehead.
"You got a little something there on your forehead." Crockett chuckled. Ronnie grinned at him and wiped her hand on his cheek.
"Hey!" Crockett groaned as Ronnie laughed and ran inside.

"Earth to Crockett." Will said, waving a hand in front of his face. Crockett blinked and looked around at the crowd moving towards the door.
"Thought I lost you for a second." Will chuckled. "I didn't realize you were a motorcycle guy."
He wasn't that much, after seeing many a trauma come into the hospital from motorcycle accidents it kind of swayed him away from the idea of it, but Ronnie was known to be a little adrenaline junkie.
"You said this singer was from Louisiana?" Crockett asked.
"Yeah. I think her name is Ronda or something. Hannah likes to listen to some of her covers on youtube."
"It's Ronnie." Crockett corrected.
"Oh you know her?" Will asked as they walked to the door. "Small world."
"Smaller than you'd think." Crockett smirked as he looked at the poster on the door. Ronnie looked pretty much the same as the last time he'd seen her right before he left for Chicago, Same Messy blonde hair, leather jacket, and deceivingly sweet smile.

Crockett, Will, Hannah, and a couple of the other doctors from Med all sat at a table together as Ronnie walked out onto the stage with the same acoustic guitar she had since she began lessons when they were just kids.It was obvious she had some fans in the bar as there were people cheering and hootin and hollerin. She sat down on the stool, and lowered the mic so she could speak into it.

She smiled at the crowd of people by the stage that were cheering.
"Thanks Ya'll. I appreciate it." She said. Her voice left goosebumps on Crockett's arms; he hadn't heard it in so long.
"So anyways, I'm Ronnie. For those of you who don't know me from YouTube, I'm from New Orleans and this is my 4th stop on this little tour I'm doing. The further North I get; I worry that my southern rock style won't be everyone's cup of tea. But it's nice to know I have some people here already that will enjoy the show." She chuckled.

"Those of you who know me from my YouTube know that It's just me, my guitar and my Harley. I don't have a band that I travel with, but I've been fortunate enough to find a local drummer everywhere I go. Everyone say hi to Darren McKenna whose talents I am borrowing for the evening." Ronnie said.
The group up front cheered for the drummer.
"After the show, I'll have a table set up just over there for an hour where I'll be selling demos for ten bucks. I'll sign them, take some pictures or selfies as the kids call them these days." Ronnie smirked "Anyways, we are going to start with one of my favorite songs to cover. It makes me think about summers back in Louisiana with my best friend."

The music started and Crockett took a sip of his drink.
"Any chance she's talking about you?" Will asked with a sly smile.
"Wait? You two know each other??" Hannah asked.
"We do." Crockett said with a smile. "We've been friends since we were just kids."

Ronnie started singing, and Crockett closed his eyes, taking in the sound of her voice that was smooth like the whiskey he was sipping on. He used to love making her sing for him. When they were younger, she was a little more shy with her musical talents and that was just about the only thing she was shy about. He smiled to himself thinking about the summer before they went off to college. He could almost feel the heat of the bonfire on his skin, he could hear the crackling of the flames and as always it paired well with her voice.

We were golden, we were fire, we were magic
Yeah and they all knew our names all over town
We had it made in the middle of the madness
We were neon in a gray cloud
Yeah, we wrote our own story
Full of blood sweat and heartbeats
We didn't do it for the fame or the glory
But we went down in history

Ronnie popped the top on her third beer of the evening.
"Easy preacher's daughter. What's your Daddy going to think when you show up hungover at church tomorrow morning?" One of Ronnie and Crockett's mutual friends, who had clearly had much more to drink as he was slurring his words.
Ronnie flipped him the bird as she chugged the beer in her other hand.
"I'd be more worried about what your mama is going to think when you come home trashed Davey." Crockett said with a chuckle.
"You're the one who brought the beers." Davey shrugged.
"He did, but he probably didn't think you'd drink most of them before we even got the fire going." Ronnie snarked.
"Amen." Crockett said with a smirk.

"It feels so weird that we've all been going to the same school since kindergarten and now the 4 of us are going separate ways this fall." Daveys girlfriend Genevieve said.
"Way to drop the mood Genny." Ronnie said.
"Well I mean think of it!" Genny exclaimed. "Davey's going to school in a completely different state. I'm going to cosmetology school in Lafayette, Crockett's going to start pre-med school in Baton Rouge, and you haven't even told us about what you are going to be doing."

"I'm staying here in New Orleans, I'm going to keep working in Uncle Xaviers garage and because my mother insists, I'll be going to Delgado in the fall." Ronnie shrugged.
"Delgado? Come on Ron-Ron you are much better than community college." Davey said. "I mean you're twice as sharp as Crockett and hes going to be a Doctor."
"Hey now. Easy with the cheap shots." Crockett protested.
"First off, unless you plan on eating that beer can, don't call me Ron-Ron. Remy does that and it drives me batshit. Second, I don't need some fancy-smancy college. My plan is to work at the garage until I have enough money saved up to start getting recording equipment so I can record my music." Ronnie said with another shrug. Her eyes were distant as she looked into the fire. Only Crockett knew the true reason why she was staying home, and she made him swear not to tell a soul as she burned her acceptance letter to one of the top schools in the US for recording music in a burn barrel in her backyard.

"It sounds like you are settling. Your parents can't be happy with that." Genny said.
"Are your parents happy with you going to beauty school?" Ronnie snapped. "You didn't even try to get into a real school." She scoffed.
"Woah Ronnie, what the hell??" Davey asked.
Crockett put his hand on Ronnies arm and she turned her fiery gaze to him.
"Let's take a walk." He said softly.
"Why?" Ronnie asked.
"Because everyones been drinking and emotions are running a little high right now and you need a break." Crockett said and stood up. "Come on." He said and nodded his head for her to follow.

Ronnie sighed and got up and followed Crockett into the woods. Once they were far enough away from the bonfire Crockett stopped. He turned to Ronnie, who stubbornly had her arms crossed and a mean mug on her face.
"Come on Ronnie, I know something is buggin you. You've been in a mood all night." Crockett said. He was not prepared however, for Ronnie to completely break down into tears.
"Whoa..whoa." Crockett said and led Ronnie over to a fallen tree for them to sit on.
"What's going on? Is it your mama?" Crockett asked.

Ronnie nodded and wiped tears from her eyes. "Daddy and I had to take her back to the doctor this morning. She was confused. She kept calling me Aimee, and I kept telling her that we hadn't even seen cousin Aimee since Christmas and that I was Veronica and she got so upset. So we took her to the doctor, and she got another MRI..." Ronnie said and shook her head "It's bad Crock. The tumor is now twice the size it was and its completely inoperable now."
Crockett swallowed hard. "What's the prognosis?" He asked.
"A couple of months. If that." Ronnie choked out.
"Oh Darlin..come here." Crockett said and pulled her close to him cradling the back of her head while she sobbed into his shirt.

"She didn't even know who I was today and Dr. Daniels says it's just going to get worse. The Chemo didn't work, all we can do is try to make her comfortable while this cancer rips her away from us." At this point Ronnie was crying so hard she was hiccuping in between words and struggling to breathe.
"Come on Ronnie, breathe for me." Crockett said. "In through your nose, out through your mouth." He coached.

He waited until Ronnie had calmed down a bit, and was breathing without him coaching her through it to speak again.
"Look, I'm going to put off school for a year. I'm going to stay here with you and we are going to get through this together." Crockett said and held her shoulders, looking into her teary eyes.
Ronnie shook her head and stood up.
"No." She said. "Absolutely not. You've worked way too hard for this Crock."
"But that isn't important right now Ronnie!" Crockett argued.
"It is important Crockett! You are going to be a Doctor someday. Daddy and I will be okay. But I can't ask you to do this."
"You didn't ask. I told you what I was going to do."
"No!" Ronnie yelled, catching him off guard. "You are going to Baton Rouge this fall to start pre-med. You're going to graduate and then start med school, and you are going to be one of the best damn doctors in the world you aren't putting it off for me, or anyone. Understood?" She asked.
"Ronnie I just-"
"Promise me Crockett. Swear to me that you will go."
Crockett started speaking again and Ronnie gave him a death stare. He sighed and threw his hands up.
"Alright. Alright. I'll go." Crockett promised.

Ronnie sighed and sat back down next to him wiping the last bit of tears from her eyes and looking up at the stars.
"I suppose we should go back before Davey finishes off the beer. I need to apologize to Genny."
"Are you sure you don't want to tell them about this?" Crockett asked.
"Absolutely. What just happened with all the tears, I can't do that with them like I can you. They don't know me like that." Ronnie said. "You are the only person in this universe that I can trust with that side of me."
"Honestly, I get it. If the roles were reversed I'd be the same." Crockett admitted. "Davey and Gen are amazing friends, amazing people really..but theres just something about us." Crockett said.
"I think we are soul mates." Ronnie shrugged.
"What?" Crockett chuckled. Ronnie looked at him and shoved his shoulder.
"Not like that!..like the best friend version of soul mates." Ronnie shook her head and laughed.

Crockett noticed the way she turned her head and bit her lip. He often wondered how she would react if he confessed his true feelings for her but at the same time...he didn't want to ruin what they had.
Crockett stood up.
"Come on, lets go." He said and held his hand out. Ronnie grabbed his hand and he helped her up.

When they made it back to the Bonfire, Davey and Genny were making out.
"Whoa guys. I did not need to see that." Ronnie said and put her hand up over her eyes.
"Oops." Davey chuckled. "Hey its getting late, Gen and I are gonna head out."
"I'm sure you are." Ronnie smirked and then looked at Genny. "Look, I'm sorry I snapped earlier. You know how I get when I have a bit to drink."
"Its all good Ronnie." Genny said. "We've all had a bit too much." Genny said and gave Ronnie a hug. "Davey and I will see y'all at Church in the morning."
"Yeah, Yeah see y'all tomorrow." Ronnie smiled.
"Any chance you can tell your Dad to start Church at noon?" Davey asked.
"Oh I could tell him, but it aint gonna happen. We'll see you at 9:30 bright eyed and bushy tailed." Ronnie chuckled and waved and Gen and Davey as they were leaving. Once they left she turned around and looked at Crockett.
"What do you say we call it a night?" She asked.
"Maybe not yet." Crockett said and picked up Ronnies Guitar. "Got one more song in you?" He asked.
"For you, Crockett Marcel? Always." She smiled and took her guitar from him.

When Crockett came back to reality the crowd, along with everyone at his table was cheering.
"Alright, I think we have time for one more." Ronnie said.

Crockett couldn't believe that he got so caught up in the memory he'd missed almost the entire show. Ronnie stood up from her stool, and put her guitar and switched it out with a very nice electric guitar.
"Not only did I borrow Mr. McKenna for tonight, I borrowed his sweet ass guitar too." Ronnie said. Crockett chuckled to himself.

"Everybody give Darren a round of applause!" Ronnie said. Darren the drummer stood up and took a little bow as everyone cheered for him too.

"How about we finish the night with a little Black Velvet? Would that be okay?"
The entire bar began cheering and Crockett himself cheered because he knew how good this cover was going to be. It was Ronnie's favorite song and she always put her heart and soul into it.

The music kicked back up and when Ronnie started singing he thought the whole bar was going to implode with all the noise between the people cheering and the loud music.
"What a set of pipes!" One of the other Doctors at the table said.
"She's one hell of a guitar player too." Will said.
"That she is." Crockett agreed.
"There's already a line at the table where shes going to sign the demos. I'm heading over there." Hannah said and excused herself.

"Well, you definitely look like you are feeling better than earlier." Will said.
"I am. I didn't expect Ronnie to be in town, I haven't heard from her since I left for Chicago." Crockett said.
"Did you leave on bad terms?" Will asked.
"No. Not at all, just had a lot of unfinished business is all. Nothing that I'd like to talk about at the moment." Crockett said.
"Say no more." Will said and put his hands up in defense. "I wont pry."

—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was an hour before Hannah made it back to the table.
"How did it go?" Will chuckled.
"Great!" Hannah said and showed the selfie of her with Ronnie. "Shes super sweet. Very down to Earth." Hannah said.
"Don't let her hear you call her sweet unless you want to be on the receiving end of a swift ass kicking." Crockett laughed.
"Well maybe she's mellowed out with age!" Hannah defended herself.
"I also would not recommend you saying that either." Crockett said and eyed Ronnie as she made her way to the bar.
"Why don't you go talk to her?" Will asked. "I'm sure she'd be thrilled to see you."
"One could hope." Crockett winked and stood up and made his way to the bar.

"Please tell me that someone in this bar knows how to make a Sazerac." Ronnie said to the bartender as she sat down.
"If you came all the way to Chicago for a Sazerac, you could have just called me." Crockett said.
Ronnie turned around with her brown eyes widened and she smiled so big she almost looked like a cartoon character.
"Crockett Marcel!" She practically shrieked.
"Veronica Bourdreax." Crockett grinned.

Crockett barely had time to brace himself as the five foot one blonde nearly took him to the floor with a hug.
Crockett closed his eyes and breathed in the smell of her perfume. Ronnie was a creature of a habit so it was the same perfume she'd worn since 7th grade. It smelled like summer rain, ozone and honeysuckle and she wore it beautifully.
"I have missed these hugs." Crockett admitted out loud.
"Yeah, me too." Ronnie said and rested her cheek on his chest.

Ronnie's eyes were closed as well. She hadn't seen Crockett in so long, she honestly didn't want to let him go. The feeling of being homesick that she had felt since leaving New Orleans for her tour, vanished the moment she embraced him. Ronnie sighed contentedly as she opened her eyes and looked up at him. He looked down at her and gave her his usual little half smile.
"I fucking missed that smile." Ronnie said quietly, so only he could hear. Crockett chuckled and leaned in. His eyes searched hers for any sort of discontentment, Ronnie was meeting him halfway before they were interrupted.

"Ma'am here is that Sazerac." The bartender said. Ronnie very much reluctantly pulled away from Crockett and sat back down on her Barstool. Crockett sat next to her.
"Thank you." Ronnie said as she took her drink and sipped it.
"How is it?" Crockett asked.
"It'll do." Ronnie shrugged and gave him a smirk. "I'm sorry I didn't call, I know you've been busy with all your cool Doctor stuff, I didn't want to interrupt anything important. You've become a local celebrity back home. The newspaper had an article about you rescuing that Jack Dayton guy. Daddy made sure to mention it in church the following Sunday." Ronnie said with a giggle.
"It's okay, I knew you wouldn't have left Chicago without seeing me." Crockett said and smiled.
"It seems you've become a little celebrity yourself." he added.

"I take it you enjoyed the show." Ronnie said with a little smile as she took another sip of her drink.
"I've always been your biggest fan Ronnie, but seeing everyone else cheer for you, knowing that you've made your dreams come true made me so happy. I'm so proud of you Ronnie." Crockett said and put his hand on her knee.
"Aww, Thanks Crock. I'm really proud of you too, I mean you're a top-rated surgeon!"
"It's nothin." Crockett said and shrugged off the compliment, like he always did.
"Bullshit." Ronnie laughed. "I just sing about broken hearts but you...you fix them and that is going to make more of a difference in this world than a few country songs. What you've accomplished is amazing." Ronnie said.

Crockett smiled and went to speak, but they were interrupted.
"Excuse me, Miss Boudreaux?"
Ronnie turned around and smiled at Darren Mckenna the drummer she had hired for the evening.
"Hey, Darren." She said. "And you can just call me Ronnie." She added.
"I was just wondering if there were any Demos left?" He asked.
"I sold out, but hang on." Ronnie said and took off her mini backpack she used as a purse and opened it. "I always keep a couple spares in here." She smiled and retrieved the demos.

"Oh Awesome! I'd like to buy both if possible. My daughter back in Boston is a huge fan of yours. I'm just here visiting some family. But my kid is going to freak when she learns I played drums for your show. She's 13 and she's into music too. Boston born and raised but she has a southern soul when it comes to music." Darren chuckled.
"Oh you don't have to pay for these." Ronnie smiled. "What's her name?" She asked as she opened her sharpie.
"Lyric." Darren smiled.
"I love her name." Ronnie smiled and signed the demo.

"Whos the other one for?" Ronnie asked.
"Actually, I have connections in Nashville, A good friend of mine works with a record company and I wanted to give him one..if that is okay with you." Darren said.
"Are you kidding?" Ronnie grinned. "That would be amazing. Thank you!
"Great!" Darren said. "And no problem really, you deserve it."
"Hey, are you going to be in Boston in September?" Ronnie asked.
"Yeah, whats up?" Darren asked.
"I'm playing a show there in September, I'd like to hire you to drum for me again. This show is outside and its a family friendly venue. I'd really like you to bring your daughter. Free of charge of course, and Your daughter and I can have a little Jam sesh after the show."
"She is going to lose her damn mind." Darren chuckled. "Thank you so much Ronnie. I hope you enjoy the rest of your night."
"You too." Ronnie said "See you in September." She smiled and waved as Darren was walking away.

"That was nice of you." Crockett said.
"Don't tell anyone I was nice." Ronnie smirked. "I mean the guy is going to try and get me set up with a record company in Nashville. This would be huge for me."
"It would be amazing for you." Crockett smiled.
"Yeah." Ronnie said and bit her lip.
Crockett put his foot on the bar on the bottom of the barstool she was sitting on and pulled her closer to him.
"Oh. Very smooth." She giggled.
"What do you say we get out of here and I'll make you a real Sazerac?" Crockett whispered. His voice held a certain lustful cadence that sent good shivers up Ronnies spine.
Ronnie leaned closer to him so that they were almost nose to nose.
"I thought you'd never ask." She said and then she glanced over Crocketts shoulder, at a ginger haired man, and a blonde woman staring at them with hopeful eyes. She grinned and shook her head.
"Is ginger spice a friend of yours?"

Crockett turned his head and looked back at Will and Hannah who were watching them like they were watching their favorite tv show. He turned his head back to her.
"Yes, those are two of my coworkers. I apologize for them." He said and shook his head chuckling.
"Nah don't apologize. We could just give them a little show." Ronnie grinned, Crockett took note of the mischievous twinkle in her brown eyes.
"Now you know, I prefer to keep you all to myself, darlin" Crockett said.

Ronnie knew this. Crockett always liked to keep the details of his romantic relationships to himself, and honestly she didn't blame him. She didn't much like people snooping into her love life either. She and Crockett had more of a friends with benefits relationship when they were young adults.

They stopped seeing each other like that when Crockett decided he wanted to settle down and start a family. Ronnie wasn't interested in being married, or having children, but they were able to continue their friendship like nothing ever happened because they were so close. Ronnie even befriended his now ex wife Claire and she was even their daughter Harper's Godmother.

Ronnie frowned at the thought of Harper, she missed that baby girl with every fiber of her being. She glanced down at the tattoo of angel wings on her wrist and felt herself tear up.
"Hey, are you alright?" Crockett asked.
"Yeah, Yeah.." Ronnie said and sniffled a bit. "Just seeing you after all these years brings up a lot of memories, good and bad."
Crockett ran his fingers over the tattoo on Ronnies wrist.
"What do you say we get out of here, and end the night on a good note?" Crockett asked.
"Sure." Ronnie smiled. She stood up and left money for her drink on the bar. Crockett wrapped his arm around her shoulders and started walking with her over to the table where he was sitting with his coworkers.

"Hey, we are going to get out of here for the night." Crockett said.
"Alright. I hope you two have a good night." Will smiled. "And that was quite a show you put on tonight. We enjoyed it." He said to Ronnie.
"Thank you. I appreciate it. I should be in Chicago for a couple of days, maybe we can all get together before I leave?" Ronnie suggested
"That sounds fun!" Hannah said. "Enjoy your stay in Chicago." She said.
"Thanks." Ronnie smirked and looked up at Crockett. "I do believe I will." She said and turned back to Will and gave him a wink.
Will smiled to himself and took a sip of his drink.
"See you in the morning Crockett." He said and led Ronnie to the door of the bar.

Ronnie's phone started ringing. She pulled the phone out of her back pocket and rolled her eyes.
"Its Remy I forgot to call him when I got to Chicago." She said and answered the phone as they were walking out of the bar.
"Hey Rem, sorry I forgot to call-"

There was suddenly a deafening repetitive popping sound. Ronnie felt like she was punched in the stomach so hard twice it knocked her back against the wall.
"Get down!" Crockett yelled to everyone as he got down on the ground. Ronnie tried to grab her phone that was now beside her on the ground but it was kicked away from her by panicked people as they tried to get away from the chaos. She heard screeching tires and watched as a car sped away from the bar.

Ronnie groaned and put a hand on her stomach. It felt warm..and wet.
"What the.." She mumbled and pulled her hand away from her stomach and saw that it was covered in blood.
"Oh shit.." She said just now realizing she had been shot.
"Ronnie?!" Crockett called.
"Crockett over here!" Will hollered, he and Hannah had run outside as soon as they heard the gunfire.
"Ronnie can you hear me?" Will asked as he crouched down to her.
"Ronnie....Oh God no! No no..no.." Crockett hurried over and crouched down to her.
"Crock.." Ronnie mumbled and closed her eyes.
"Ronnie no! Stay with me baby. Come on." He said. Ronnie opened her eyes a little. She could hardly see, and everyone sounded like they were really far away. She closed her eyes again and her head lolled to the side and everything went quiet.
