Before the Clout
Congratulations
You finally made it
You've been given what you always wanted
To be the biggest star on the biggest stage
You've got the clout
Trending for the time being
Before your turn is up
And you're replaced with the next relevant topic or individual
But right now...
You're the lucky bastard
Millions of people
Day after day
Are desperately chasing for that clout
Through social media
Going on certain websites
And just through the internet in general
Lucky you
Or so you thought...
Sure, it was great at the beginning
The views you were pulling
The fans you were growing
The respect you gathered
The adrenaline was like a drug in itself
Rushing though your veins
Releasing dopamine with excitement
But you realized it's not what you really thought it was
Everyone has become so damn fake
You have more yes-men in your corner than a jury itself
Nobody gives you constructive criticism anymore
And if they do, you never listen to it
Your ego can't handle it
Going in through one ear and out the other
Girls throw themselves at you
The ones that ghosted you your whole life
Wouldn't even look you sideways
Ask them on a date and they'd laugh to your face
Now they're screaming to get into your hotel at night
You drive expensive cars
Live in lavish mansions
Exotic pools in the backyard
Punks start asking you for pictures or autographs
Chumps that didn't even like your IG pics back in the day
Wouldn't even watch your content if you had to pay them
Treating you like a grand king
Worshipping over you
And if you're busy or stressed out
Not in the mood to give them that picture
Or autograph
They will shame you
Get the press to write a nasty story about you
And how you don't treat your fans properly
Not showing them the love back they granted you
Now you're "cancelled"
You've lost over the respect of the industry
You're an embarrassment and shame to the media
All over just one small mistake
Think of the mistakes people make every single day
And they just get off without any punishment
Because it wasn't caught
All your yes-men have left you
You still pull chicks
But not of them truly love you
Not for who you are
What you stand for
You realize life was just so damn simple back then
So loving and free
You could walk down the street without a camera in your face
You could watch a football game and not be harassed for attention
You could spend the day knowing the media wouldn't twist your words
Turning all the tables that once favoured you
You could spend time with friends and family
The ones who loved you most
The ones you actually should have been focused on
Unlike all the fake people you surrounded yourself with
So if you're ever confused in life
Worried about the people you spend the most time with
And not sure about the choices you are making
You take a step back
And you simply ask yourself
Who was there before the clout?
