The Ghost and The Specter
You see, Y/N wasn't always this motivated when it came to fighting crime. He was reckless, brash, and was always making mistakes. He would rush in head first into a fight without a plan. That was, until someone changed him.
It had happened at school. Y/N was walking down the hall with his friends Matt and Damian. Good boys both of them. As they talked Y/N didn't realize that he was on a direct course toward the student council president. When he realized it, he was too late. The two bumped into each other. They argued about whose fault it was and in the end the girl just walked off.
"Who the hell does she think she is?" Y/N asked.
Damian laughed and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"That's Rose. Rose Silver. The Student Council President." He explained.
Y/N just shurgged.
"Pres needs to pay attention. Come on. I don't want to be late again."
Y/N was still young. He had only been Ghost for a few months at this point so he didn't have the experience he has now. He didn't really need it since there was another hero back then. The Specter. As the days went by the two interacted more and more. They became acquaintances, than friends, than something more.
"Hello."
Y'N looked up from his seat to find Rose standing there over him. He looked around to see the teacher had left.
"Uh, Hey. What are you doing in detention?" Y/N asked.
Rose sat the the seat in front of him.
"Mr. Tewers needed to step out and asked if i would watch you. How could I possibly refuse?" She explained.
Y/N smiled and the two began to chat away. They could be found in the lunchroom talking about classes and weekend activities on the regular basis. When Y/N would appear tired or upset, she was somehow always the first to find him and cheer him up. She even started to bring coffee to school for him. She saw the injuries every once and a while but Y/N would assure her that he was fine. Damian and Matt even backed him up so she never pushed the subject. The two became the power couple of the school despite not being a couple at all.
It had taken him some time but Y/N had finally had the guts to ask her on a date.
It was under the old oak tree behind the high school where the fateful encounter took place. Y/N was eating lunch alone, Damian was sick and Matt had a test to take care of, when Rose joined him. The two talked about their future plans and their dreams. She wished to become a successful lawyer like her mother while Y/N still had no clue.
That's when he asked the question.
"Hey, would you like to go out sometime? Like to a cafe or the movies? Just us?" He asked.
Rose didn't answer right away. She instead blushed and looked down at her food. Y/N felt defeated, rejected, and embarrassed. That was until she spoke up.
"I would love to. I get to pick the movie though." She stated.
Y/N just smiled. They didn't become a couple right away. Y/N began to pay close attention to her, not wanting to be a bad boyfriend, and began to notice the same things she did for him. The tiredness and the occasional grumpiness. It wasn't until they found out each other's secrets that they truly got close.
"You're the Specter?!"
"You're Ghost?!"
The two were on top of a building where they revealed their identities by accident. They thought the roof was empty. They had parted ways after working together on a job as Specter and Ghost. Y/N shook his head in disbelief. Rose just stood there shocked. Then, they began to bash on each other.
"The hell are you thinking?! You could get hurt!" Y/N shouted.
"Me?! I've been doing this longer than you!" Rose argued.
"That doesn't matter! I'm more prepared than you! When do you even have time for this?!"
"Whenever I can! What about you?! Is this why you're always late to class?!"
"Yeah. Is this why you're always tired?"
Rose nodded. They went back and forth before they got tired and called it a day. It took some time before Y/N approached Rose. She was expecting something different.
"I want you to train me. Teach me what you know."
She refused at first. It took days of begging and pleading before she gave in. The two trained over the course of the next few months. During that time Montoya left and Damian fell into his job working at a cafe. Matt even got a girlfriend of his own so the two heroes were alone except for each other.
Y/N threw one last punch but Rose was quick enough to grab his wrist. Before Y/N could react she had already turned her whole body and flung him over her shoulder. When Y/N landed he had the air knocked out of him. He groaned and rolled to his side as he tried to breathe.
"New Marrow's hero everyone." Rose announced.
Y/N chuckled before he stood up. Rose had already went to the bench and grabbed her bottle. She took a drink as Y/N rubbed his wrist.
"Just when I think you approved you suddenly get weaker. Shame really. I was thinking our little sessions were working." She said.
"Yeah me to. Sorry my head's not all here." Y/N admitted.
Y/N walked to his bag and took off his gloves. He then proceeded to take off his shirt which revealed his bare chest. Rose watched him as she blushed and noticed the two marks he got from his fight with Psy.
"Does it still hurt?" She asked.
Y/N looked at her and down at his chest. He ran his fingers across them and shrugged.
"Honestly I can't feel them anymore. Matt still hasn't found anything on it and I don't have a damn clue what it is." He explained.
Rose handed him her bottle of water which he happily took. As her eyes wondering she noticed the various small scars he had over his body from former fights. One scar made her stomach turn however.
"Is that a bullet wound?" She asked concerned.
Y/N laughed.
"Yeah. It's from my, like, 5th run in with the family? Luckily the only time I was shot." He explained.
Y/N threw his shirt on and checked the time on his phone.
"Shit. I got to go." He said.
He packed his stuff up in a hurry.
"Why? Is something going on?" Rose asked worried.
Y/N shook his head.
"Just a rematch."
When Y/N was attacked by Psy, Rose helped him. When Rose was hospitalized, Y/N was there. When Y/N fought Bandit and stopped the second New York Accident, Rose fought alongside him.
It was that night that they first kissed. They became a couple and were always there for each other.
But good things never last long.
Damian went missing which sent Y/N into a state of panic. He spent long hours as Ghost trying to find him. Rose would help but Y/N was fully invested in the search. It wasn't until the Doctor introduced their newest creation, Chaos, to New Marrow.
Chaos was a force to be reckoned with and Y/N put his full effort into stopping him. Rose did everything she could to help but in the end Y/N was breaking. It wasn't until they were in that museum that everything changed. The Doctor had just escaped and left Chaos to do their bidding. He easily defeated Y/N and Rose.
Y/N looked up to see exactly what Chaos had in his hand. It was the same tech bomb he found at Polis Industries during his investigations. Y/N looked to see that Rose was next to him. He turned back to Chaos just as he closed his eyes and activated the bomb.
"No!" Y/N called out.
As the bomb's ticking went faster Y/N acted fast. He turned to Rose and ran towards her. Time slowed down just as the bomb went off. The blast had already lifted him off his feet which also threw him toward the wall. He watched as Rose was also thrown back. Everything began to break and shatter as the explosion expanded. Soon everything went black for moment. Y/N reached up to his ears which were now ringing intensely. He felt blood coming from his cheek and ears. Something had cut his arm but he didn't feel it. He pushed himself up and was horrified by what he saw. Ash and smoke were everywhere. All the priceless sculptures were now shattered. The paintings were burnt to ash. Chaos was gone.
"Specter?" He called out.
No response.
"Specter?!" He tries again.
Nothing.
"ROSE?!"
He got up too fast. He almost fell over but caught himself. He began to limp his way to the last place he saw Rose and looked around frantically.
"ROSE!"
He couldn't find her. Finally he spotted something. Blood. Fresh blood. On a large piece of concrete that had fallen down. Underneath was a arm sticking out.
"Rose?"
He limped his way over and fell to his knees when he got to it. He reached out and touched the arm. He felt no pulse.
"Rose. ROSE!" He cried.
He fell over and began to cry.
"No. Not you to. Please not you to!" He cried.
The funeral was a week after. Her brother was there as was Y/N and Sanders. Some of her friends from school showed up as well. Her brother refused to make eye contact with Y/N much less look at him. When Y/N got home he went straight to his room.
A week after that the police began to wonder where Ghost was. He had not shown up since the museum blew up. Y/N hadn't gone to school for two weeks now. He didn't want to. He hasn't even left his room.
After a month the public began to grow worried. Ghost has completely disappeared. Crime began to rise and the police were busy. Y/N had started to grow a beard. His hair was now long as it went over his ears and down to his neck. Sanders had tried to get through to him but he didn't budge.
Chaos and the Doctor had finally got what they had strive for. Ghost was broken.
It took a while but he did recover and became much more dedicated. He was going to make sure no one else would suffer like Rose or Damian did.
