A Job Offer

A week had passed since you had started running tests at the campus. Things had been going pretty well for you but it was time to head back to your home. You had given Locke permission to call on you if a situation had ever gotten dire as it did with the A Class before heading out to the hanger. You found Team Alpha waiting for you there.

"So, you're heading back." Jason called out as you walked towards them.

"My city needs me. I would love to stay and mess around some more but I have obligations. Maybe during summer?" You suggested.

Jason just nodded before the other three walked up to the two of you. Nathaniel and you had gotten a bit closer and he was slightly bummed to see you go but he knew it wasn't the last time he would see you. Lacy even gained a liking to you, maybe a bit more on the romantic side, and was also sad to say goodbye. Yuri could care less to be frank. The two of you hardly talked and she was a bit bitter about you breaking her record.

"I'll see you guys around." You saluted before boarding the jet.

You took your seat and sighed as it began to take off. The flight would take about 3 hours so you figured some shut eye would do you some good. You slowly closed your eyes and began to drift to sleep before your phone began ringing. You answered it without looking at the caller ID.

"Hello?" You answered annoyed.

"Good to hear from you Ghost."

You immediately sat up at the voice. You knew that voice very well.

"Daniel. Surprising to hear from you after all this time."

Daniel chuckled on the other line. He was Daniel Holloway. Yeah, Montoya's older brother. A very high ranking member in the Family. So why was one of the most powerful gangsters in the world calling you? Well, he was an informant of shorts. He would feed you info when you needed it and in exchange you helped him out. In truth he wasn't a bad guy but he was far from good. He still wanted to run the Family one day but he also wanted to do things in a more legal manner. That being said, he was calling for a very specific reason. He was the one who told you about the mayor's involvement with the Family. That meant you owed him a favor.

"I have a job." He bluntly stated.

"Figured." You rolled your eyes.

"The Family is throwing a party, a very high end one. It goes without saying that there will be some very powerful, very rich people there. We have security packed in like a bunch of sardines in a can but I need you to protect a very special guest. The new head of the Family."

You frowned at this. You had no idea what he meant by the new head. Someone else besides LeFay was in charge now? That meant that he either died or went into hiding over the last week you were away. This wasn't good news.

"What happened to LeFay?" You asked.

"Well you know that sword for hire, Bloody Mask? He got to him. Blood everywhere. It was a mess." Daniel explained without a trace of anger in his voice.

That man was his father but he seemed more bored than upset. Like someone was telling him the same story over again.

"So you need to play babysitter to make sure that bastard doesn't get to the new boss." Daniel finished.

You knew you couldn't really turn him down. You both had a deal and you had to honor it just like he did.

"Fine. Who's the new boss?" You asked.

The line was silent before you heard him take a deep breath.

"Montoya."

Sanders was in the kitchen making his famous home made fried chicken with the 11 herbs and spices, there was a joke here somewhere, when Emily came downstairs. She sat on the counter and watched the old man work his magic.

"So, what's the occasion?" She asked curiously.

Sanders lifted his hand up and bend the elbow before sprinkling in the salt.

"Y/N is coming back. We're celebrating." He informed before he threw the chicken into the oven.

Emily seemed to light up at the news which didn't go unnoticed by Sanders.

"He isn't gay you know." He stated.

"Huh?"

"Y/N. He likes women. In case you were wondering." Sanders smiled as he leaned on the island across from the girl.

Said girl was confused as to why he was telling her this.

"I figured. He dated Rose." She pointed out.

"I'm just letting you know you have a chance." He winked.

Emily sat up straight and began to feel the heat rise to her cheeks. Did he know? How long has he known? Does Y/N know?

"I-i have n-no idea what you're on about!" She tried to deny.

Sanders' smile only grew more.

"Oh little girl, you can't hide anything from me. Have I ever told you what I did before I retired?" He asked.

Emily shook her head. All she really knew about Sanders' past was that he knew Y/N's parents somehow. He had some connection to them.

"Well neither does Y/N. But I will say this much though. In my old profession I had to constantly be able to tell if someone was lying or telling the truth. After a few years you get damn good at it. Now that you know that I have a question."

He leaned forward so that she was looking into his eyes.

"Do you have feelings for Y/N?"

Emily gulped at the intense stare. She knew that at any moment she could level the entire neighborhood with a simple thought but here she was. Being intimidated by a old man. She simply nodded. Sanders stared at her for a few more moments before breaking into a full on smile.

"I knew it!" He cheered.

Emily looked down in defeat. Sure she had feelings for you. Who could blame her? You had saved her even when you didn't know her. You were there to protect her from dangers unknown. You were the first kind person she had met. Or at least remembers. She also knew that she had a lot of competition. She already knew about Doll but after spending the week with Lisa and Carrie she learned that quite a few girls were going for you. Some guys to. What surprised her the most was the fact that Carrie seemed to have some feelings for you.

"Well you better tell him before it's too late. He faces danger on the daily basis. Who knows how long that idiot has?" Sanders said turning back to finish the mashed potatoes.

She knew that was true as well.
-------
You ended up kicking the door open since your hands were full. Your bag was flung over your shoulder with one hand while the other held a briefcase courtesy of the Campus. You also had a frown.

"Welcome home my boy! How was the trip?" Sanders greeted.

"Hi, it was great, thank you for dinner, I'll go wash up, I have a job, tell you about it later, ok bye." You answered in a robotic-like manner.

You walked up the stairs and tossed everything into your room before heading back down to the dinning room where Snaders and Emily were. You ate your food at an amazing speed before thanking Sanders and heading up stairs. You took a quick shower and grabbed the case before walking back down stairs.

"What's going on?" Emily asked.

"LeFay Holloway was killed while I was gone, new boss took over, said boss is throwing a party, I was asked to play bodyguard in case Bloody Mask shows up." You quickly explained as you opened the case.

Your eyes grew wide and you jaw dropped. You looked like a kid on Christmas as you looked at what was in this case. Emily was also curious and walked over only to be in awe at the new suit.

"No way. I thought this was like a new gadget or something." You declared.

You lifted up the jacket and found that it was lighter than the one before. It was completely black but you could tell that there was a thin layer of armor. Bulletproof, knifeproof, fireproof, and it had inside pockets. You turned it over and found your logo on the right shoulder. You set it down and looked at the pants. They were combat type pants with pouches sewed into the fabric for easily access. They also had the same protection as the jacket. You played it down and looked at the boots. They looked just like your old ones but you recognized the stealth tech. Sound proof. You lifted up the gloves next and were excited to find protection on the knuckles and the same type of knifeproofing from the jacket. Your excitement bubbled to the top when you looked at the mask. It was hard fiber rather than the various cloths you had been using. The skull design stayed the same for the most part save for the bottom fangs sticking out more like a traditional oni mask.

"BADASS!" You screamed as you quickly began to put it on.

It fit perfectly. Not too tight, bot too loose, perfect. You felt like you were going to cry. You noticed the note inside and picked it up to read it.

After the many tests and experiments, we do hope this is to your liking.

-Headmaster Locke

"Thank you old man." You whispered.

You flicked the note back into the case and closed it. You moved your arm around before clenching your hand.

"It feels like I'm not wearing anything. Like to see Bloody Mask beat me now. Not that he could before." You said making a fist.

Tonight, you partied.
