Chapter 63 | A Past to Remember
Sooooo...
I researched about Chinese topics because I sincerely do not want to get things wrong and offend someone. I found out that Yun Zhao's courtesy name is Zilong (His current name in game) A courtesy name is a name bestowed upon one at adulthood in addition to one's given name. And Yun Zhao is an adult in my fanfic. (I'm not telling his age >:3)
I'm not sure if this is a large error that needs to be fixed. Should I call him Yun Zhao or Zilong from now on?
Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy today's chapter!

"What happened next?" Miya anxiously asked Hui Lan after she suddenly stopped at the part when Yun Zhao fell into the lake. Even though the moonlight archer knows that he lives after that accident, how did he survive? This part made Miya both anxious and intrigued that it would make her go to the edge of her seat if she has one. "Late Empress Mia, saved the young Crown Prince before he could've fallen into the hands of death." Hui Lan continued, a slight hint of sadness in her voice.
After the young aged Yun Zhao fell into the lake. He instantly struggled to escape the icy waters. Sadly, he didn't know how to swim back then. So he didn't know that struggling made it worse for him. "Mother!" He managed to shout for his beloved mother as he gulped water in the process. Mia immediately sat up to her knees, her eyes tired but alarmed. After hearing her son's disparate voice made her woke up at an instant.
She quickly ran towards to the lake after seeing her son struggling against the cold waters. Mia dived towards the lake without any hesitation and quickly caught her now unconscious son before he could sink into the deep depth of the lake. Luckily, she knows how to swim because a particular Guardian taught her long ago. Even though Mia thought it was useless since she never encountered a situation that needed swimming, it fortunately did came out handy for her at this moment. Mia tightly held Yun Zhao as she swam towards to the shores as quickly as she could. The freezing waters made them both shiver and caused them to have cold shock response. There is without a doubt that one of them will get sick after this.
When they got close to the shores. Mia carefully placed Yun Zhao on the ground. She panted heavily, her body sore from carrying her son while swimming. Let alone her hanfu that she is currently wearing tried to drag her down. It was a hard task, but Mia couldn't let her son die in front of her eyes. She lifted both of her trembling hands, touching Yun Zhao's cheeks. He looked so cold and rather pale that it made Mia's heart crack. Her poor son in a horrible state like this. It all felt like it is her fault for not keeping a keen eye on him.
When Yun Zhao wasn't responding. Mia opened his airway by titling the head back slightly to lift his chin. She carefully listened for breathing, but there were no sign of one. Mia's eyes widened out of shock. She quickly placed both of her hands on the middle of Yun Zhao's chest. She pushed her hands hard and fast to her son's chest then delivered rescue breaths. Mia repeated this until she saw a sign of life in her son's body. She sighed in great relief and tiredly collapsed into the ground.
When the night became late and darker. Ju-long arrived back to his palace after another task done. He quickly got informed by one of the servants that his wife and son did not come home yet and were searched everywhere in every inch of the palace and all over the city. When Ju-long heard the bad news, his heart immediately got anxious and furious at the same time. If someone tried to kill or hurt his family, he will give them a punishment of a lifetime. He couldn't think anything else about Mia and Yun Zhao.
After a while of searching desperately. A group of guards found Mia and Yun Zhao's sleeping bodies nearby the lake's glimmering shores. They quickly ran over to them and carefully carried them back to the palace.
A servant quickly ran towards to the room where Ju-long is. The guards that guarded the door's room let the rushing servant inside. The servant immediately kneeled down to show respect. "You're Majesty. We have successfully found the Empress and the Crown Prince. But unfortunately the Empress..." The servant announcement calmly until they stopped their sentence. Even though their head was hanging down to hide their panicked face. Ju-long could tell that this servant was hiding the bad news from him. "Tell me! And where is my wife?!" The Dragon Emperor immediately demanded. He couldn't allow his time to get wasted in this servant. His anger more dominating than his worried mind. "Forgive me, your Majesty! The Empress caught a high fever and is currently in her room getting examined by the Imperial Doctor!" The servant instantly answered, quickly getting out of the way of the Emperor's path. He was truly terrifying indeed even without being in his massive dragon form.
Ju-long quickly went towards to Mia's room. Once he arrived in the scene every maids, servants and the Imperial Doctor bowed down to his presence. He walked over to Mia's ill-conditioned body. She looked like she was deeply suffering. As if her fever is like fire making her body turn into flames. "Your Majesty, I am afraid that the Empress has been poisoned." The Imperial Doctor spoke, slowly standing up to their feet. "Who dares try to kill my Empress?!" Ju-long impatiently demanded to know. No one has ever seen him this furious before. His strong wrath lingered in the air and his golden scales began to show up in his face's fair skin. "I-I have found the source of the poison and wha..what it is, your Majesty." The Imperial Doctor stuttered some of their words. They were terrified and did not want to face the Dragon Emperor's wrath. "Well done, tell what this poison is." Ju-long growled as he held one of Mia's hands tightly, but not too tight for he did not want to hurt her. "The poison came from the Elven Kingdom, your Majesty. It is a rare and very dangerous poison that can only be made by Elves. The poison doesn't give off any scent and signs, it is in fact stealthy and will try to kill its target as fast as it can. Unfortunately I have not found any cures for this poison. I am afraid that we'll have to use the fight poison with poison strategy." The Imperial Doctor said. Hoping that Ju-long would give this terrifying strategy a chance.
The Dragon Emperor himself experienced this strategy before during the Great War. If Mia didn't thought of this strategy and used it on Ju-long when a poison got into his body, he would've died long ago. But Mia, she was so fragile like glass that Ju-long was afraid that if this strategy is used on her she would break into pieces! But that's their only chance. Ju-long let out a tired sigh, his wrath calming down like the aftermath of a storm on the sea. "Let's give this strategy a chance." He said rather quietly in hopes of it working. The Imperial Doctor nodded and said. "I've quickly asked the Elven King's personal doctress to come over to help us cure her Majesty. She is highly knowledgeable about many illnesses and medicines throughout many realms. Even her knowledge surpasses mine, your Majesty." Ju-long slowly leaned down and kissed the hot forehead of Mia, still holding her hand tightly with his. "I'll save you, my love." He softly whispered into her ear before dismissing everyone to leave.
After a few days, the Royal Doctress of the Elven King Elion has arrived in the Dragon Realm's Capital City that is known as Kaifeng. The City looked busy as always with its beautiful, ancient architectures still intact to it. The beautiful music of the zither, dizi flute, erhu, and other instruments played and dance along with the wind. Every inch of the city looked lovelier and alive! No sign of rural places or homeless beings could be seen. Every person that you would look at all have happiness on their face. At the end of the City lies the Grand Palace of the Dragon. Here the Imperial Family resides in tranquility and happiness, until the Empress fell ill and got poisoned. Ju-long didn't announce that his wife got poisoned and it came from the Elves. It would cause a chaotic reaction and he wouldn't dare interrupt his people's happy, daily lives. And so he kept it a secret and anyone who reveals the secret will have themselves, their family, and their entire clan's beheaded! Ju-long has already enough problems and tasks, he doesn't want another large one on top. "Your Majesty. The Royal Elf Doctress has arrived in your presence." A guard announced as he allowed a beautiful looking elf wearing traditional hanfu walk inside. The Elf Doctress bowed down after taking few steps closer to the Emperor. "I have arrived, your Majesty. How may I be in your service?" She politely asked as she formed a faint smile on her face. Elves are widely known for their healing ability and spells. But of course, the royal Elf Family are the only ones who excel at such spells. "My wife currently has high fever and it didn't calm down even with rare medicine. She unexpectedly got rare poison into her body that only elves can make. Please, help my wife get cured." Ju-long answered. He was desperate, wanting to get Mia cured as soon as possible. "Of course, your Majesty. I will do everything I can to cure the Dragon Empress." The Elf Doctress said, keeping her faint smile on her face.
Ju-long gestured two guards to take the Elf Doctress to his wife's bedroom. The two guards obeyed the Emperor's orders and quickly took the Elf Doctress to the bedroom of Mia. "If you need any help, we can call the Imperial Doctor to support you." One of the guards spoke. The Elf Doctress dropped her nice looks and glanced at the guard who spoke. "Thank you, but I do not need anyone's help. Please guard the door and leave me to concentrate in curing her Majesty." The Elf Doctress ordered the two guards before turning her back at them. The two guards were quite offended, but nevertheless obeyed and walked over to the door to guard.
Nearby Mia's bedroom. Yun Zhao was searching for her dear mother. Ever since he woke up, he has been told that her Majesty is sick and he must stay away from her. He would cry day by day, missing his mother deeply. Every night, Mia would go to Yun Zhao's bedroom and tuck him in bed. She would place his teddy bear that she made for him and tell him wonderful stories about her and Ju-long great adventures and intense fight scenes in the Great War. Yun Zhao loved his mother's stories that it inspired him to become a great son of the Dragon Emperor and to help kings and rulers who are in need of help. But now, he waits for his mother to open the door and go inside. Tuck him to bed and place his soft, cuddly teddy bear besides him. Then she would sit down on the edge of his bed and tell him stories until he falls into his sweet dreams. Then he would feel his mother's lips gently kiss his forehead and softly say. "Good night, my little Dragon." Yun Zhao wanted to hear her mother's lullabies and stories, to see her take care of him everyday. This is all my fault! If I hadn't jumped into the lake, mother would've fallen ill! I am a horrible son! Yun Zhao thought harshly towards himself. Since he couldn't hold back his feelings at a young age. He let himself burst into tears and crumbled into his knees. His maids immediately ran over to him, helping Yun Zhao stand up to his feet and carefully tried to wipe his tears away as they continuously fell down to his cheeks. "Your Highness! What is wrong? Why are you crying?" One of his maid asked. They were all worried about their young Lord. If Ju-long saw Yun Zhao crying. The maids will get yelled at for not doing their best in cheering Yun Zhao.
Ju-long wanted to be in son's side. But he got so much work to do and little time to do it. He was intensely stressed out and worried about his wife and his son and the entire realm. If Mia dies and her real cause of death gets exposed. His citizens will make up rumors that an Elf is responsible for his wife's death and will grow silently aggressive towards to any Elves who have the guts to walk on the Dragon Realm after the event. "I-I caused mother's illness! I made her sick! Tha-That's why father isn't coming to see me! Father hates me!" Yun Zhao answered, crying even harder and louder than before that it made his maids quickly panic. "No! His Majesty will never dare hate his own son! His Majesty is very busy that is all. I am certain that her Majesty will get treated right away and she will be able to bring happiness back to young Lord." One of his maids said, forcing a smile on her face. They all desperately wanted their young Lord to stop crying. Yun Zhao wheezed and coughed, wiping his tears away. "Really..? Father doesn't hate me?" Yun Zhao asked. His cheeks and eyes turned red, but he still looked handsome and adorable.
All of his maids smiled and nodded. "Yes, your highness." One of them answered with a bright smile on her face. Yun Zhao stopped crying, a cheerful feeling back into his body. "Thank you! Please prepare tools to make stuffed toys. I would love to create one for mother and father." Yun Zhao ordered, giggling rather cutely. All of the maids sighed in relief and smiled and then said. "Yes, your highness." Before they quickly prepared the tools and materials to make stuffed toys.
Yun Zhao couldn't wait until he finish a mother bear for his mother and a father bear for his father! This way if they all get together, Yun Zhao will be able to suggest a family bear role play game. It was such a happy thought that it made Yun Zhao's smile wider. He walked towards to his mother's bedroom, seeing two guards stationed by the door. He faintly frowned since he couldn't get inside, but is able to take a small look. Yun Zhao walked towards to one of the guards, he lifted his head up to look at him. "May I take a peek of my mother?" He asked the guard politely. The guard nodded as his answer and said. "Of course, your highness. But please don't go inside, your Majesty will be furious." Yun Zhao grumbled slightly, wondering why his father will get mad if he takes a small step inside. Nevertheless he is glad that he is able to see his mother from a afar.
He looked at the Elf Doctress who was holding something sharp with something inside its container. Yun Zhao looked at it curiously and since he was still young at the time. He didn't know that the Elf Doctress was actually poisoning his mother.
Meanwhile in the present. Yun Zhao went towards a particular location after finishing a task. He pushed aside the bushes that blocked his path and continued to walk deeper into a forest until he stopped in front of a beautiful grave structure. Yun Zhao walked closer to it and slightly smiled. He sat down once he got close and gently touched the grave's cement material. "Mother, I've brought someone. If you were still alive. Would've liked her? She's very lovely and nice that even father liked her." Yun Zhao said to the grave that belongs to Mia. "I went to the Elven Kingdom's Emerald Woodland and I still can't find that elf who killed you. And I am very glad and relieved that it isn't Miya. I don't think I have the heart and soul to kill her if she was the murderer. I really...like her." Yun Zhao continued to speak, hoping that his mother's soul could hear his sincere words. He misses her dearly and he is certain that she misses him too.
He took a deep breath, allowing himself to form a frown as his eyes showed bitter sadness. He still couldn't get over the fact that he caused his mother's death. If he didn't jump into the lake, then his mother wouldn't have caught a high fever and maybe she could've have a better chance in surviving the poison. Yun Zhao hang his head in guilt, gently biting his lips. "Mother, did I become a good son to you?" He asked, the tone of his voice revealing that he's having more grief every minute.
If only Yun Zhao knows that his mother's soul is tightly hugging him right now. He would feel better and would likely to keep his smile. Mia wanted to stay longer, but her time around her son is running out. "You've become a great man. I'm so proud of you." That was all she could manage to say into her son's ears before disappearing into the forest. Yun Zhao heard it clear as the day, his eyes widening in shock. But then the corners of his lips slowly formed a curve, he smiled freely and closed his eyes. "Thank you, mother..."
