Chapter 44 | Broken Promise
"I hope Freya is okay after that fight in the Abyss." Rafaela said anxiously. She worries about Freya a lot when a terrible thing happens to her. Freya would write letters and then give it to a Phoenix that will deliver the letter to Rafaela in no time, but after the fight, Freya hasn't send any letters to her. Rafaela hopes that Freya is just doing fine. "I'm sure your beloved friend is in good conditions, she is a Goddess after all. She will easily not be defeated by an evil Queen." Minotaur said, trying to calm Rafaela's anxiety down.
Minotaur looks intimidating and scary, but he's actually kind and a loyal friend. When they first encountered each other's, Rafaela was too frightened to get close to him, but Minotaur was badly injured-on a verge of death, Rafaela couldn't walk away and let him die. So Rafaela made Minotaur's pain and injuries fade away instantly. Minotaur is forever grateful for Rafaela's kindness that he decided to guide her towards to the Emerald Woodlands as a thank you, but they unfortunately got ambushed by a group of Blood Demons, thus they got taken to the dungeon of the Queen of Doom that is located underneath her nightmare castle.
Rafaela breathe in and out, calming herself down. "It's just...My first lover got corrupted by the darkness, I'm afraid that it might happen to Freya. She's now the only one that cares a lot about me, she's like an older sister." Rafaela said, a frown forming on her angelic face. "May I ask how your lover fell into the wicked side?" Minotaur asked, sitting down on the ground, the soft grass quite tickling him. Rafaela sat down as well, looking at her laced fingers. "His name is Argus, a very powerful and kind angel I have ever met. Before we descended into the Land of Dawn at the same time, we were lovers. He was the one responsible for obliterating evil, while I am the one responsible for obliterating sufferings. We were a perfect match, inseparable until we parted our ways. Argus said he'll come back...and he did, but he turned demonic." Rafaela answer, she sounded sorrowful, bitter, and regretful at the same time. When she first saw Argus' corrupted form, she wanted to help him, but the Heavens forbids her from helping a Fallen Angel.
In the Past, not too long ago. Rafaela and Argus sat down on a thick cloud, watching the sun lowers itself, its vibrant orange to yellow color filling the sky that is about to becoming the night. Rafaela gently leaned against Agrus' arm, her head resting on his shoulder. His hard, steel armor felt cold against her fair skin, but whenever he hugs her, she felt immense warmth. "Promise me that we'll meet again?" Rafaela asked, lifting her head to look at Argus.
Argus looked back, underneath his helmet that hid his face lies a frown that Rafaela couldn't see. "I vow that we will encounter each other again, do not fear my precious angel." Argus promised, lifting his hand towards to her face, pushing the strands of hair behind her ear. Rafaela smiled beautifully that made Agrus' heart skip a beat, to him Rafaela is his everything, he will do quite anything for her. Once the sun disappeared into the horizon, the sky turned into black, being filled by countless stars and the bright shining moon where the Moon God and Moon Goddess are residing in. Argus stood up to his feet, lending a hand towards to Rafaela for her to grab. Rafaela tightly grabbed his hand, getting supported by him when she stood up. "Once a week pass by, can we stay for a few days before we separate?" Rafaela asked, hoping that Argus will say yes. She sounded desperate and sorrowful, she didn't want Argus to leave her side. Argus didn't want to leave her either, but he must do his duties. Rafaela must do her duties as well. "Rafaela, we have to leave exactly next week. You're strong, I know you'll be able to help countless people, you'll be a very great heroine." Argus said, taking of his helmet to kiss Rafaela's forehead, only to place the helmet back on afterwards. Argus is darkly handsome, Rafaela didn't understand why Argus likes to keep his face hidden inside a helmet, she wonders if he'll ever take it off forever.
Rafaela hugged Argus tightly. "Be safe." She said, her voice hinting that she's concerned about him. Argus returned the hug, lifting one of his hands to brush her smooth, golden hair that shimmered in the light. "Be safe as well, my precious angel." Argus said before breaking the hug to let Rafaela flap her graceful, white wings to fly away towards to the healers' training grounds.
Argus wasn't ready to leave Rafaela yet, he was scared of her being lost somewhere dark and dangerous, what if she got captured by an evil being? What if she gets killed? This worrisome thoughts filled his brain that he wanted to do something that will purify his mind, and that is to eliminate an evil being. Argus flapped his wings, quickly flying down towards a portal that will lead to the Abyss, a perfect location where evil beings dwells.
Once Argus arrived in the realm, he hated the air that is foul and corrupted. The land a dark version of the wasteland that has eternal storms of raging thunders, screams of unknown creatures coming from all sides, and floating rocks that dirtied the clouded sky. A sudden loud roar shook the ground, making the other evil creatures that are weak hide among the shadows, running like their life depends on it. Argus easily identified the loud roar as a boss, a large demon creature that is capable of killing countless lives, but for Argus this large demon is nothing but the same as the weak beings who tried to kill him from his past battles. Argus pulled out his sword that Freya made for him as a gift for taking care of Rafaela, he took care of his sword as if it were a part of his body. His is made out of the strongest and rarest materials that only Freya can make. The blade is made out of enchanted obsidian, purified by rare angel tears to make it golden. Freya calls his sword Illumine, it is indestructible and is one of the deadliest sword ever made. Argus loved Freya's gift, but for some reason he didn't feel powerful enough, he wanted more power.
When the large beast came close to Argus, it growled at him loudly. Its mouth full of sharp, long fangs that are covered with blood, its beady eyes looking at Argus as if he were a pest. The demonic creature is ten times bigger than him, but Argus did not fear it. The foolish beast thinks that they'll be able to crush him with one foot, but it thought wrong. Agrus flapped his wings, flying towards to the beast at fast speed. The beast quickly moved both of its hands towards the angel in an attempt to crush. Unfortunately the beast couldn't catch Argus in time.
Argus fled towards to the creature's forehead, stabbing it deeply by his sword. Blood rushes out like rain, splattering Argus' armor and wings. The angel let out a frustrated groan, quickly flying away as the beast began to collapse towards the ground, creating a loud disturbance once it hit the cold terrain. "Well done, glorious angel." A ghostly voice said, amused and intrigued of how Argus fought the now dead beast. "Show yourself, or are you too scared to face me?" Argus said, looking around his surroundings, but he did not see any figure nearby. "It's pointless to look for me, I am just a mere voice, a once strong, ancient being. I can feel your thirst for power, I can help you Argus. Come to me." The voice said, trying to allure him, but Argus ignored its calling.
Suddenly the beast that Argus just defeated began to move. Before Argus could react and dodge, he was immediately grabbed tightly by the demonic creature. Argus struggled violently, but it was pointless since he couldn't move. "You'll die in vain if you don't accept my callings. Come Argus, destroy my sacred seal that traps me inside this creature's body. Free me and I will grant you immense power that you so desirably seek." The voice said, continuing to call for him, alluring him into a deal that will grant him his wish. Argus couldn't resist any longer, his mind and body slowly getting corrupted by this mysterious voice. His white armor turned black, changing its shape into a more demonic style, the golden glow of his body flashed green and his angel wings turned into a fallen's. The beast looked at Argus, its eyes turning red. "Strike this beast in the chest with your holy sword, it shall break the seal. Then give your life to me, you will finally have what you seek." The voice instructed, making the beast open its hand to release Argus out of its grip. Argus flapped his wings, glaring at the beast's chest. He didn't have a second thought or a sign of hesitation to do what the voice instructed him. The fallen angel pulled out its sword, flying towards to the beast chest to stab it. Argus heard and felt a crack, he broke the seal that this voice desperately wanted to be destroyed. His sword absorbed the darkness, its golden color turning black, the blade emitting a greenish glow. "Stab yourself with this sword." The voice instructed him once again. Argus looked at his sword that is no longer pure, he then pulled it out of the beast's chest, flipping it so that it pointed at his chest. Argus stabbed himself just like the voice told him to. The fallen angel did not bleed, more rather he felt power going inside his body. The sword keeps feeding him more and more power until Argus finally became quite satisfied. Once Argus pulled his sword out of his chest, quickly transforming into a demonic blade. "Destroy countless lives with this blade. The more you kill, the more power you will have." The voice said before fading away. Argus touched his new sword's blade down to the tip. The sounds of souls screaming inside is quite amusing.
He couldn't wait for the battles that he will encounter, he will kill everyone that gets in his way, even if it's his own lover.
Back to the present. Rafaela bit her lip, her face under despair. Minotaur forms a frown on his face, gently patting her back. "It's all right, maybe he'll return back to the light one day." Minotaur said, trying to comfort her. "I do hope. I miss Argus so much..." Rafaela said sadly, hanging her head. Before Minotaur could say anything, the ground suddenly began to shake, startling Rafaela. She felt a familiar presence nearby, a presence that she wanted to be near every since Argus never showed up to her when he fell into the darkness. That's when Rafaela realized that the person that owns this presence is Argus. She quickly stood up to her feet, running towards to a particular path. Minotaur stood up as well, running after the angel. Confused why she suddenly stood up and ran off somewhere. "Argus!" Rafaela said loudly, calling his name repeatedly out of desperation. She thought that he was dead when Freya told her that she killed Argus in a tough fight. Freya lied about it, but why? This will be a question that Rafaela will ask Freya when they meet again. Rafaela continued to call out Argus' name until she felt like she has gotten close to him. She wanted to hug him tightly until he couldn't breath, kiss him like there's no tomorrow, and be with him forever.
Rafaela saw Argus, her eyes widening in shock. He looked so different than before, he looked like a very powerful demon. Next to Argus is a woman with a blond hair, her eyes wide in fear. She held her gun's handle tightly, her standing body stiff. Rafaela flapped her wings, immediately flying towards them. "Argus!" She cried, but Argus couldn't hear her voice. The fallen angel raised his sword, pointing it at Layla. Rafaela let out a gasp, accelerating her speed to her limit. She won't allow Argus to kill any more lives, she'll save this woman like her life depends on it.
Before Argus could stab Layla on the chest, his sword's blade hit someone else instead.
