The Citadel
When Gabby and her family finally got back home, she quickly sent out a message to all the kings and queens of the Nine Kingdoms, asking them for help. She managed to get a hold of King Ignatius, Dracona's father. And, Queen Reigna and Queen Sophia answered the call as well.
Gabby explained to them how on Mortis, the Father and his children could neither see nor hear her, yet her powers could affect them, and when Ahsoka and Anakin had been under the Son's "spell," they temporarily couldn't see or hear her either. And then, somehow the Daughter was alive despite her giving her life essence to Ahsoka.
Naturally, the king and queens were curious.
Queen Reigna told Gabby, "In Enchantra's history, some Enchanteds have travelled to other worlds, and on rare occasion, have been known to become invisible in many ways. On some, they appear to blend in illusions as the beings of the other world. On others, they cannot be seen nor heard at all. We don't know how or why, but it has happened."
"Based on what you've told us of this strange world," said Queen Sophia. "It is possible that the gold blood cells in your system combined with the midichlorians created a force too foreign for even those powerful Force wielders to recognize."
"Magic is a different energy from the Force, based on what we've learned since meeting the Jedi." King Ignatius said.
"What about when Ahsoka was brought back to life and the Daughter survived?" Gabby asked.
"Do you recall anything happening right before then?" Reigna asked.
Gabby thought and said, "Just crying."
"Then perhaps it was your tears that allowed Ahsoka to revive." Reigna said. "There are spells that can restore and revive, but they are rarely ever used because they require essence of another living being to be done. Only a few Enchanteds young and powerful enough to perform them have ever done so. The younger a caster is, the more life essence they have, and the stronger the connection they make with the person they lost, then the better chance they have at surviving the ritual. On most occasions, it has been done by a group of people. What has powered it more than anything else were drops of love."
Gabby was confused at first. But then, Queen Reigna explained to her that love was the most beautiful thing in any universe. It bound all virtues together, and was more powerful than any death. But, sometimes they had to allow one to die because they were ready to, and even magical beings could not mess with the balance between life and death by reviving every single being who died.
"What about the visions I saw?" Gabby asked.
"That, I'm afraid, is something you'll have to figure out on your own." Ignatius said. "We're not Jedi or experts on the Force in any way. But, you are a very smart and resourceful girl."
"You always believe in other people," said Sophia. "And in doing so, you and your powers have continued to grow. In doing so, you will find the answers you seek. This time, believe in yourself."
Gabby decided to do more research on restoration spells, and was using the Force to hold up her spell book as she read, when she happened to walk by a briefing meeting, and she overheard a conversation regarding Jedi Master Even Piell.
"As you are aware, the Citadel is their most isolated and impenetrable detention facility." Master Plo explained. "No one has ever escaped."
"There's a first time for everything," said Anakin.
"Indeed, there is." Obi-Wan agreed.
"Their security has prevented our probes from obtaining recent reconnaissance, so we've been forced to construct a crude map based upon data from the archives." Plo said.
"And since the data is extremely old, the map will be difficult to rely on." Obi-Wan said.
"Essentially, we're going in blindly." said Boba, who stood by Remix and Carousella.
Gabby looked in and started to wonder why she hadn't been invited to this brief meeting. Ever since Mortis, she'd been out of the action lately. Gabby was left to study her magic, and she took a lot of time to practice, and jumping into a few books literally and figuratively gave her some extra help and space. And she grew to learn a lot. Since time passed differently in books, she could stay there for years and only a few minutes would have passed in her world, and she'd still be a little girl. But, Gabby noticed that a lot of her friends were taken into the action, including her brother. Sure, Boba was a good shot, and had a lot of experience from bounty hunter training with Jango Fett, but he was a kid too. And why would Carousella and Remix be briefed on this and not Gabby?
"Beg your pardon, General." Rex said. "but how do we know Master Piel is still alive?"
"The Separatists won't dare kill Master Piell until they have what they need." Obi-Wan answered.
"He obtained the coordinates of a secret hyperspace lane known as the Nexus Route." said Plo. "which travels into the heart of both the Republic and Separatist home worlds."
"They could prove vital in maneuvering our forces deep into remote Separatist sectors." Obi-Wan said.
"Or the enemy could use them to slip through our defenses and attack Coruscant," said Carousella, beating Anakin to it.
"That was my line," said Anakin.
"You snooze, you lose." Carousella chuckled.
Remix and Boba rolled their eyes at the two's childishness.
"These hyperspace lanes are of immense interest to both our sides," Plo said. "and could tip the scale of the war to whomever is in possession of them. That is all."
Gabby ran off before anyone could see her. And she happened to run into Ahsoka, who heard about the briefing. So, they both met with Masters Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Plo.
"Sorry, I'm late," said Ahsoka. "I just heard about the briefing."
"We're rescuing Master Piell, right?" Gabby asked.
But, Anakin stopped and didn't say anything.
"You three have much to discuss," said Plo, and he and Obi-Wan left.
"Ahsoka, Gabby, I'm sorry I didn't tell either of you earlier," said Anakin. "But neither of you will be coming along on this one."
"What?" both girls asked at the same time. "What do you mean not coming?"
Both girls looked at each other, and tried to speak again, but kept saying the same thing at the same time.
"This is really weird. Okay stop talking!" Gabby and Ahsoka said at the same time. "Antidisestablishmentarianism. Seriously?! Agh!"
Anakin chuckled and said, "Ahsoka, you speak first."
"You're breaking into the Citadel." Ahsoka said. "No one's ever done it."
"The Citadel wasn't designed to hold common criminals." Anakin said. "It was created to hold Jedi if any of us lost our way. It's not a place for Padawans or little girls."
"Then how come Boba, Remix, Peppermint, and Carousella get to go?" Gabby pointed out. "Boba's younger than Ahsoka, Carousella is even younger than Boba, and Remix and Peppermint don't have any experience as royal guards."
"Your brother has experience in more dangerous cases than you do, and he's older than you. And we have a few more horses coming along for extra assistance." Anakin said.
"You're just being protective again." Ahsoka said. "And making excuses for the others."
"Yeah! I've been in battle before, and I've been able to escape things since I started crawling." Gabby said. "You said the Citadel holds Jedi, but I'm only half-Jedi. If Sirius Black can escape Azkaban, why can't I help a Jedi escape the Citadel?"
Ahsoka and Anakin were confused, having not read as many books as Gabby.
"Azkaban's an inescapable magical prison in a Harry Potter book I read. But that's not the point." Gabby said. "How are Ahsoka and I supposed to learn if we can't share the same risks?"
"This isn't a mission for learning," said Anakin. "You either do or die. And that's not a risk I'm willing to share with you or a four-year-old."
Gabby then clinged to Anakin's leg. "I don't want you to die!"
"Gabby!" Anakin said. "Now you're worrying too much."
Anakin walked for a bit, but Gabby didn't let him go.
"Gabriella, I'm serious! Let go!" Anakin said, trying to shake Gabby off his leg, but she only tightened her grip. Anakin groaned as Gabby would cut off the circulation of his leg if she squeezes any tighter.
Others were finding it amusing, even laughing at the fact that Anakin Skywalker couldn't shake a four-year-old girl off his leg.
"Either he's got the biggest flesh-eating parasite I've ever seen stuck to his leg..." said Remix. "Or Gabby wants to come on the mission and Anakin won't let him."
Anakin tried to shake Gabby off again, and even tried to pull her off with the Force, but Gabby would not let up.
"Gabriella, that's enough! Boba, can you pry your sister off my leg, please?"
"Coming, Dad." Boba said, and he pulled on Gabby, only for his sister to tackle him to the ground and cling to him. "Okay, now she's got me."
Carousella picked Gabby up with her mouth, but Gabby started squirming around. And she used another spell she learned, which made pink sparkles appear, and they started flying around on Carousella, making her laugh as they tickled her.
"Stop it!" Carousella laughed.
"Gabby, I know you're upset about not coming, but do you have to-" Anakin started laughing as the sparkled started to get him too. "Gabriella Skywalker, you better stop this right now!"
It was harder for Anakin to sound stern while he was being tickled and laughing so hard.
Gabby rolled her eyes and snapped her fingers, making the tickle torture stop. Then she turned and left.
So, the Jedi got ready for their mission.
Queen Reigna sent over some of her royal guards to help with the mission. Mainly ones with wings, including Carousella's brother Crescent. All of them had horseshoes that helped them apparate like the ones from the Ride of Love. Recently, the horseshoes were upgraded with a special potion created to make them recharge quicker if they needed to apparate multiple times in a short period. The clones seemed to prefer that idea, as none of them wanted to end up wall decorations.
So, the horses had the plan to simply apparate the team to where the Citadel was and meet R2 and the ship there. According to Carousella, it would be a lot easier than Anakin's original idea of carbon freezing to avoid the life form scanners completely.
Of course, Anakin took Crescent as his horse, wanting to ride one of the biggest ones. He held onto the reins and pet Crescent's mane. If there was anything he learned about horseback riding over the last year, it was that bonding with the horse was essential for a safe ride.
"Ready, everyone?" Anakin called out.
Boba, of course, rode Remix. Obi-Wan rode Peppermint, Rex rode Carousella, and the other clones rode whichever other horses were available.
"Ready, General." Rex confirmed.
"Alright, Crescent. Giddyup!" Anakin said, snapping the reins.
Crescent stood on his hind legs with a whinny to signal the others to start following. The horses all ran together as the ship was taking off and spread their wings before disappearing in a bright flash.
"May the Force be with you," said Plo Koon as they left.
The team quickly appeared at the rendezvous point, all of them okay, but some a little shaken from their first apparition.
But, they found that they had three extra visitors. Nearby, Fantasia was letting Ahsoka and Gabby off of her back. The Equines all bowed before their princess.
"Fantasia?" Carousella said. "What are you doing here?"
"Helping a couple of friends here," said Fantasia.
Anakin looked surprised and held disappointment and anger in his eyes when he looked at his daughter and his Padawan, having disobeyed orders.
"I must have magic sickness because I could swear that's Ahsoka and Gabby." Obi-Wan said.
"Your eyes are fine," said Anakin. "It's Ahsoka and Gabby's hearing that needs help.
"We received orders to join the team," said Ahsoka. "I thought you knew."
"Orders? From who?" Anakin asked, not believing it.
"We discussed it with Uncle Plo." Gabby said.
"And I discussed with my mother, the leader of these ponies you brought, before bringing them here." Fantasia said.
"They didn't tell me." said Anakin.
"You were already gone," said Ahsoka.
"Well, I gave you both specific orders not to come. And someone is gonna be so grounded once we get out of this."
"If there's one thing we've learned from you, Daddy." Gabby said. "It's that obeying direct orders isn't always the best way to solve a problem."
"I've learned that from you too, Master." Ahsoka said.
"I see Anakin's new teaching method is to do as I say, not as I do." Obi-Wan said. "Welcome aboard, girls."
Remix and R2 were left at the shuttle to guard it.
"We'll contact you when we're ready for takeoff." Anakin said, stroking Remix's muzzle. He found doing that with the horses was the best way to keep their trust and let them know he trusted them with something.
"Yes, Sir." Remix said, and R2 beeped.
The group took a path by a range of cliffs until they were a close yet far distance from the Citadel.
Anakin looked through some scopes.
"I see the entry point," he said.
"You were right." said Cody. "The wind conditions are too strong for jetpacks."
"Luckily, we're trained to fly through pretty strong conditions." Carousella said, spreading her wings.
"I'm not sure that's wise." Obi-Wan said. "Given what's down below, that would put your riders at risk. We'll just have to do it the old-fashioned way with ascension cables and a steel grip."
"I don't think so," said Anakin.
"What do you mean?"
Anakin pointed out that the cliffs below the entry point were covered in electro-mines. One hit, and it was game over.
"I suppose that means we free-climb it," said Rex.
"But horses can't climb." Peppermint said. "And not all of us here are unicorns."
"We'll find a way in," said Crescent.
"The humans and Togruta can climb." Summer said. "We can handle ourselves."
So, the humanoids started to free-climb the cliffs.
Anakin had Gabby hold onto him, and had Boba climb above him so he could keep an eye on both of his children.
"You hanging in there, Snips?" Anakin asked.
"Holding just fine," said Ahsoka. "I could do without the wind, though."
Everyone continued to climb.
"The entry point is just a few more meters." said Obi-Wan, who climbed the highest.
"Good, because someone's getting heavy." Anakin said.
"Maybe you need to do more pushups." Gabby said.
Obi-Wan managed to reach the edge of the entry point, but he hung from it and motioned the others to be quiet. Everyone froze and remained silent until Obi-Wan looked and then spoke.
"They locked the door. It's ray-shielded." said Obi-Wan.
"Ray-shielded?" Anakin said. "That wasn't the plan."
"Well, it's in the plan now."
Ahsoka climbed a little higher and noticed something.
"There's an opening up there." she said.
"We know. They're ventilation ducts, but they're far too small for us to gain access." Anakin said.
"Too small for you, maybe. But you happen to be carrying someone just the right size to fit through."
"Well, we hadn't planned on Ahsoka or Gabby being here. Perhaps she's right."
Anakin concentrated and used the Force to quickly and carefully pass his daughter to Ahsoka.
Ahsoka carried the princess to the top and helped her into the duct, and she was right. Gabby was still small enough to fit easily into it, while Ahsoka guided her through to the right place.
Gabby managed to find the right vent that led to the door, and she jumped up to reach the control that turned off the ray shield.
"See? We can handle ourselves, after all. Especially when we work together." Gabby smiled.
Anakin said nothing and walked in.
The clones continued to climb, but Charger slipped and fell. Luckily, just before he could hit an electro-mine, he was caught in some aura of pink magic and lifted back up to the entry point. And that was when Fantasia flew in.
"Miss me?" Fantasia said.
"Thank you, Princess Fantasia." Charger said.
"That was way too close for comfort," said Carousella, flying in.
"Glad to see you could make it to the party." Obi-Wan said, stroking the back of Carousella's neck.
"Now let's go find Master Piell." Ahsoka said.
The clones and the ponies with magical horns quickly took out surveillance cameras as they entered the Citadel so they wouldn't be detected. Everyone stuck together as the ponies listened for any clue to where Master Piell was, but the Jedi could also sense his presence, and they quickly found the room where Piell was kept.
The clones shot at the droid that nearly took Master Piell's one good eye, and all other droids.
"Secure the entrance," said Anakin, and the ponies stood guard while he deactivated Piell's prison, and Obi-Wan carefully carried Master Piell down, asking him if he was all right.
"Obi-Wan. What took you guys so long?" Piell asked.
"At least your sense of humor is still intact." Anakin said.
Gabby gave Master Piell a kiss in case he needed healing from his torture.
"Thank you, Princess Gabby." Piell said, feeling better when he was kissed. "It takes more than they got to break me."
Obi-Wan gave Master Piell his lightsaber.
"So, you have the coordinates for the Nexus Route?" Anakin asked.
"I got them, alright." Piell said. "Half of them, anyway. My captain's got the other half. I erased the computers when we were boarded and had both of us memorize part of the intel."
"So that if you cracked, the information would be useless without the other half," Boba hypothesized.
"Precisely, my boy." Piell said.
"Where is your captain?" Carousella asked.
"Being held with the other officers, I assume." Piell answered
"Do you think we have enough room on our horses to carry everyone out?" Anakin asked.
"Well, most of us can carry two people at once." said a blue pegasus guard named Dash.
"Dash and I can carry three, since we're bigger." Crescent said. "But, we'll need to see the number of people to be sure."
And so, the team began to search for Piell's captain.
Unfortunately, one camera was still intact, and it caught sight of the Jedi, clones, and horses in the hallway.
The droids began to fire at them, the Jedi using their lightsabers, and the ponies using their magic and strength to fight. Gabby used energy bubbles to shield some from the blasters. And after Carousella smashed the last droid's head, Obi-Wan quickly declared they had to keep moving.
But, as the team came into another hallway, there was a high-pitched buzzing that irritated everyone's ears, and the clones blasters and the lightsabers were pulled up to the ceiling. And so was Anakin because of his metal arm!
"Anakin!/Dad!" Obi-Wan and Boba exclaimed in unison.
Then, some electricity buzzed through the walls and struck Anakin.
"Master!/Daddy!" Ahsoka and Gabby exclaimed at the same time.
"Deja vu," mumbled Carousella, that moment feeling familiar.
Carousella flew up and bit Anakin's prosthetic, trying to pull him free. But, she couldn't get him unstuck. Crescent came up to help and wrapped his front legs around Anakin, trying to pull him down while his sister kept trying to pull his metal arm directly.
"Man, that's a strong magnet!" Carousella said. "Assuming we get out of here, we should probably see about getting you a new prosthetic that doesn't have iron or any other magnetic metal in it."
"You fools," said a voice over the speakers. "I hope you enjoyed the reunion with your fellow Jedi because you're going to be my guests for a very long time."
The jedi tried to Force push away the droids, but they were magnetized just like Anakin and the weapons. Carousella tried using magic this time to try and demagnetize the magnet, but then she noticed a power supply unit.
"Crescent, look!" Carousella said, motioning to the box.
And Crescent flew over and kicked the power unit, deactivating the magnet, and dropping Anakin and all the metal weapons back to the ground.
"Are you alright?" Rex and Carousella asked together."
"I'm fine. Let's go." Anakin said.
And the team rushed once more to find Piell's captain and the other officers.
The team tracked the others to a cell in a farther part of the Citadel.
"General," said a man in the cell when he saw Master Piell.
"Captain Tarkin." said Piell.
"I never thought I'd see you again," said Tarkin. "And you brought friends... and children?"
"Tarkin, this is Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker." Piell introduced. "The children are Skywalker's. Boba and Gabriella."
"Now that you've found us, how do you expect us to get out?" Tarkin asked. "If they've locked this fortress down, there's at least ten squads on their way."
"Well, we brought almost ten ponies here with magical horseshoes that can get us all out of this prison and off-world." Gabby pointed out.
"Even if what you're saying is true, it will be impossible to escape." Tarkin said.
"What if we split up?" Obi-Wan said. "My team will create a diversion, while Anakin leads the others away. That way, if one of us is captured, the enemy will only have part of the information and not all of it."
"General Kenobi, I think it's better if we stick together." Tarkin said. "A stronger force will have a better chance at protecting the information."
"Not in this situation," said Obi-Wan.
"But surely we'd have more strength in numbers, rather than divide us."
"I'm all for sticking together to be strong," said Gabby. "But Uncle Obi-Wan is usually right about these kinds of things. We should split up. It's our best chance."
"Obi-Wan and the princess have a point." Piell said. "I'll go with him, you go with Skywalker."
"I'll go with you too," said Gabby. "Carousella?"
"Count me in," said the musicorn, following her girl and the others.
Gabby went with Obi-Wan's team, and suggested that one pony take Master Piell off-world.
"They can't capture him if he's not on world," said Gabby. "And the Jedi Council will want that information as soon as possible."
"I agree with Gabby," said Summer.
"Me too," said Carousella. "Don't worry, Master Piell. We've got more than two magical beings on this team, and a bunch of trained clones and Jedi. We can handle this. Protecting that information is our top priority now."
Initially, the grown-up Jedi were hesitant, but Gabby normally had good reasons behind all her ideas, especially now that she was getting stronger and smarter with her skills and powers. And, the horses had stronger instincts than that of people. So, Master Piell agreed to let Summer apparate him to the Temple while the others stayed to help.
Obi-Wan's teams planted bombs to blow up some of the hallways and distract the droids, while Anakin's team escaped by Anakin slicing a hole in the wall, and they found a tunnel. Hopefully, it would give their horses an advantage of apparating home on the horses.
Ahsoka confirmed that the tunnel was clear.
"Looks like Obi-Wan's diversion worked." said Anakin. "Things seem to be going as planned."
"It's when things do not go as planned that concerns me," said Tarkin. "What then?"
"It's when things don't go as planned that we Jedi are at our best." Anakin said.
"And some of us non-Jedi too," said Boba. "You should trust my dad."
"I reserve my trust for those who take action," said Tarkin. "General Skywalker."
"Then let me remind you, we rescued you back there. And I reserve my trust for those who understand gratitude, Captain Tarkin."
And so, two of the clones sealed the way they got out, and the group headed on their way to meet the others.
