Shadow Warrior & Memories

Some time passed since the war with the Mon Calamari and the Quarren, and Gabby resumed her search for answers. She contacted Memoria to see if she knew about a river of memory.

And Memoria told her: "Many rivers hold memories, Gabby. The tricky part is finding the memories you're looking for. If you wanna find the answers, I suggest starting with the waters closest to your heritage."

Gabby thought about what Memoria told her, and she knew the chances of finding water on Tatooine, much less convincing her parents to let her go there, were slim to none. So, Gabby decided to search on her mother's home planet Naboo. Conveniently, there was a new mission for the Skywalkers on Naboo.

Rumors spread that the Gungans were planning to aid the Separatists in an attack on Theed. Thus, they called Senator and Princess Skywalker over, accompanied by Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, Boba, and their horses.

Gabby could see the water all around them, even with all the fog. She recalled that Memoria said the water would have memories, but she would have to come in close contact with it. A small amount of the water should be enough for her to access the memories within it.

Just then, a watercraft rose from the water, and out came Jar Jar Binks.

"Oh, boy." Jar Jar groaned slightly. "Mesa must stop zippen to ze surface. Ears go boomba someday."

Gabby took out a little container she brought with her and filled it with some of the water from the lake while her parents asked Jar Jar what was wrong.

"We're hearing disturbing rumors." Anakin said.

"Is Boss Lyonie calling for a march on Theed?" Padme asked.

"Oh, yesa, My Lady." Jar Jar answered.

"But why now? The Gungans and surface-dwellers have been fine." Gabby said. "Some were even at the wedding, remember?"

"Mesa don't know. Hesa give mooie fiery speeches blamen Naboo for everything." Jar Jar said.

"Well, let's just hope he's only talking out because he's cranky and didn't sleep well enough." Remix said.

"How we all wish that could be the case in war time." Carousella said.

"Mesa say it couldn't be true." Jar Jar finished.

"Of course, it's not," said Padme as she and her family got on board.

"We need to talk to him Jar Jar." Anakin said.

Boba looked at the container of water Gabby held and said, "You know we brought water if you're thirsty, right?"

"I'm not gonna drink it," said Gabby, scrunching her nose in disgust. "It's for something magic-related. But first, we have to take care of this problem. I'm gonna be queen of Naboo someday, so I have to help it first."

Jar Jar brought the Skywalkers to where Boss Lyonie was giving a speech, and just like Jar Jar said, the Gungan leader was giving some disturbing speeches.

A Gungan general approached the group.

"This is mooie-mooie bad," said Jar Jar. "Don't worry, General. Mesa friends can help."

"Mesa hope so, Jar Jar." said the general.

After the other gungans were dismissed, Jar Jar and the Skywalkers approached Boss Lyonie.

"Young Senator Skywalker and Young Princess Gabriella, if yousa here to talk mesa out of marchen on Theed," said Boss Lyonie. "yousa wasting time."

"With all due respect, your course of action is based on lies," said Padme.

"You have to tell your warriors to stand down. Please." Gabby said. "We know you don't want to do this. I know you don't want to do this."

"Mesa different now," said Lyonie. "Mesa enlightened.

"See? Acting loconut." Jar Jar said.

"Loconut might be an understatement." Boba said quietly.

"He seems possessed, if you ask me." Anakin said.

"Or under someone's influence." Padme said.

Gabby squinted to get a better look at Lyonie.

"Stop whisperen and go. Besa gone." Lyonie ordered.

"I think Mommy and Daddy are both right!" Gabby said. "The necklace."

Gabby quickly Force-pulled the necklace off from Lyonie's neck, and he started to act as though waking from a trance.

"Wha? Whasa happenin?" Lyonie asked. "Binks? Whasa are they doing here?"

"What are we doing here?" Gabby asked, confused.

"Don't you remember anything?" Padme asked.

"Who gave you that necklace, Your Majesty?" Anakin asked.

Boss Lyonie told them that Minister Risha Loo was the one to give him the necklace, telling the boss that it would make him a powerful bombad leader.

"They say Risha Loo know ancient Gungan mystical power." Jar Jar said. "mind over matter."

That made Gabby started to wonder... if Gungans had mystical power in ancient times, was it possible ancient humans on Naboo had power too and that was how she got hers?

"But hesa only use it for good," finished Jar Jar, breaking Gabby from her train of thought.

"Until now, you mean." Anakin said.

The children stayed with their parents while Boss Lyonie went to speak to Risha Loo alone. Of course, they had Carousella and Remix destroy the necklace under their hooves, and Gabby blasted it with a fire ball for good measure.

Gabby started to look at the water she gathered, when she and Anakin sensed something was wrong.

"We'd better get up there." Anakin said. "Kids, stay down here."

The children heard a lot of noise from upstairs. Carousella stood protectively in front of the kids as Padme was thrown back down to them by a droid, which Padme shot with her gun, and Carousella blasted the droid with her magic.

Then, Anakin ran down and told the others to check on Boss Lyonie.

"Ani!" Padme exclaimed, but she went upstairs, and so did the kids.

Padme and the children went upstairs to check on Boss Lyonie, and they found he had been stabbed pretty bad. Luckily, his wound healed once Gabby kissed his cheek

Boss Lyonie was carried to a medical ward and hooked to a machine to check his state.

"This is mooie upsetting, My Ladies." Jar Jar said.

"I know, Jar Jar." Padme said, putting a hand on the Gungan's shoulder, while Gabby hugged him.

"How is he?" Anakin said.

"I healed his wounds," said Gabby. "But he's out cold."

"The Gungans are still gathered and poised to march on Theed."

Gabby took a look at Boss Lyonie without his robes and crown. He looked strangely familiar.

"Does Boss Lyonie look like someone we know to you?" Gabby asked.

Clumsy Jar Jar then tripped and fell down. Poor thing.

"Boss Lyonie never got a chance to call off the invasion." Anakin continued.

"Maybe I can reason with them," said Gabby. "I am Princess of Naboo."

"But you're also a land-dweller. Not a Gungan." Anakin pointed out. "They wouldn't listen to a child, anyway."

"And it's almost dusk," said Padme.

"Jar Jar, you're a senator. You have to tell them to stand down. They'll listen to you."

Jar Jar picked himself up, picking up Lyonie's things.

"These Gungans are proud." the Gungan said. "With theysa mood at the moment, meesa the last person they listen to now."

That was when Jar Jar put Lyonie's crown on.

"That's why he looked familiar!" Gabby said.

"I don't believe it," said Anakin.

"The resemblance is remarkable," said Padme.

"Uh, whosa resemble whatsa?" Jar Jar said.

"You. You look just like Boss Lyonie. I didn't realize it until you put the crown on."

"It's just like the Prince and the Pauper story." Gabby said. "You know, the story about a prince and a poor boy who trade lives, believing that each of them had the life the other person wants."

"This gives me an idea," said Anakin. "Jar Jar, you must put on Lyonie's robes and keep that crown on."

"Oh, noi, noi. Mesa can't do that." Jar Jar said.

"You have to if we want the Gungan army to stand down." Gabby said. "And as Naboo's princess, I'm telling you that this planet is our home, our kingdom. You're its only hope right now."

"But theysa no listen to mesa." Jar Jar said.

"Maybe not, but they will listen to Boss Lyonie." Anakin said.

"But wesa all don't look alike," said Jar Jar.

Gabby found a place to sit by herself and opened the container of water. She used the Force to pour a little bit of the water into her hands, and she sang a little song to make the magic work (To the melody of 'All Is Found' to be precise).

Naboo waters, deep and true

Show the answers that I seek from you

Take me deep into your sight

Guide me to open my eyes

Gabby closed her eyes as she felt the magic working, and she opened her eyes, them glowing a white light as she found herself in a new kind of trance almost like a dream.

Gabby looked around and saw many visions surrounding her of what looked like memories of Naboo from days to years ago.

Gabby walked deep into the tunnel of memories, seeing so many different ones, hoping to find what she was looking for... which now that she thought of it, she didn't know what to even look for.

At some point, she saw a little boy talking to a fourteen-year-old girl. Gabby recognized that girl from a photo album. That was Padme, her mother. And it turned out the little boy was Anakin when he was nine.

"Aww. Daddy was so cute." Gabby said. "This must be around when Mommy and Daddy first met."

Gabby walked through the tunnel again, and then saw another memory. A memory of Qui-Gon Jinn, and a man who looked about twenty-five and had a Padawan braid. Based on the time these memories went by, and knowing Qui-Gon had only one Padawan with blue-gray eyes like the younger man's before he died.

"Uncle Obi-Wan?!" Gabby said. "Wow, he sure looks different without his beard."

Gabby then saw Qui-Gon fighting some scary-looking thing with a black and red face with horns. Gabby didn't recall seeing anything like it in her nightmares, but she was certain it might haunt her later, especially when she saw it impale Qui-Gon Jinn, to Obi-Wan's horror.

Gabby watched as Obi-Wan held his master in his arms as he gave his dying wish to his Padawan. Young Obi-Wan started crying like Gabby had never seen before when his Master closed his eyes for the last time. Gabby felt like crying seeing her uncle cry. How she wished she could've been there to give him a big hug. And then, Obi-Wan sliced Qui-Gon's killer in half.

"Wow. Uncle Obi-Wan really did have strong emotions when he was younger." Gabby said. "And that killer is only half the man he used to be now."

But, Gabby wasn't sure how that memory fit into how her powers came to be. So, she decided to go back a little further... until she saw a glow from behind her, indicating a new memory was being made. Gabby looked at the memory, and she saw her father being captured and tortured by Count Dooku.

Gabby snapped out of her trance with a gasp. She saw her mom talking to Count Dooku.

"What do you want, Dooku?" Padme asked.

"I'm glad you asked," said Dooku. "I could be persuaded to return your husband to you in exchange for General Grievous."

"I... I can't do that." Padme said. "I'm sorry."

"You soon will be." And Dooku had some of his droids shock Anakin.

"Stop!" Gabby exclaimed, taking the communicator. "Leave him alone! Take me."

Dooku and Padme were both shocked by Gabby's action.

"You wanted me before. You can trade Grievous and my father for me." Gabby said. "No one will come for me."

"Very well, Princess." Dooku said. "You shall meet at a rendezvous point with the others."

"Gabby! You can't do this!" Boba and Carousella said together.

"You can't go with Dooku! He'll hurt you!" Boba said.

"I know, Big Brother. But I can do this." Gabby said. "I'm not just a princess, I'm a Jedi too. And Jedi have to make sacrifices."

"Gabby, please." Padme said, picking up her daughter, looking like she would start crying. "I nearly lost you to Dooku before. I can't lose you now."

Gabby looked at her mother and rested her forehead on hers.

"I know, Mommy. But I know what I'm doing. You have to trust me." Gabby said. "I can do this."

And so, Gabby met at the rendezvous point with her family, Queen Neeyutnee, the Gungan army, and Carousella.

Sure enough, the droids brought an unconscious Anakin.

"Gabby, please. There has to be another way," said Carousella, tears in her eyes.

Gabby hugged Carousella and stroked her muzzle.

"This is the only way to save my daddy and keep Grievous in custody." Gabby said. "Don't worry. I'll be okay. Just make sure you get my family to safety. And whatever you do, don't let Daddy come to rescue me, okay?"

Carousella thought Gabby was crazy. She really was Anakin's daughter.

"Okay?" Gabby repeated.

"Okay." Carousella sniffed.

"Bring forth the princess," said a droid.

Gabby stepped forward, placing her hands on her head to show she was surrendering herself.

No one could believe that a four-year-old was willing to make such a sacrifice to save everyone.

And when Anakin woke up, he was horrified to learn that his daughter had been taken into the Separatists' custody. Naturally, Anakin immediately tried to get to a ship so he could rescue his daughter, but Carousella wouldn't let him.

"Gabby gave me specific orders not to let you rescue her," said Carousella.

"She's only four and she was probably scared when she saw I was in trouble! She couldn't have made that decision rationally." Anakin said.

"She made that decision to save you," said Boba, crying. "To save us all."

Padme hugged her son, though she was also crying that her little girl was all alone with the Separatists.

Carousella nuzzled Anakin as he broke down into tears too.

"Gabby's a smart girl. If she's as smart as we've been led to believe..." Carousella said. "She'll find a way."
