Sabotage

About a month passed since Satine and Obi-Wan got engaged. A lot happened in that one month. Gabby talked to her mom, and they managed to get a few friends to help with restoring peace to Mandalore. Especially from some of Enchantra's leaders. And, during that time, Anakin's side of the family really grew accustomed to life outside the music industry.

Carmine proved himself to be a fun and effective dance teacher, Lamenta was making lots of nice friends at the Temple and with some of Gabby's friends, and Caroline got a chance to be a stay-at-home mother and to relax. Even though her husband wasn't a diva like some other celebrities, managing for him as well as overseeing the choreography and stage management was all done correctly on top of being a mother with an almost five-year-old was a very stressful job.

Today, Gabby and Lamenta were walking down the halls, talking about how things were turning more peacefully. Lamenta's mother was taking care of being Obi-Wan and Satine's wedding planner, and both the little girls were excited that they would get to be flower girls.

"You should've seen my parents' wedding." Gabby said. "It was so beautiful. You would've loved the dress my mommy wore. And my daddy... he made a vow to Boba and me when he and Mommy said their vows."

"That sounds so romantic." Lamenta said. "My parents said they just eloped since they couldn't afford a big wedding. After they graduated school, Mommy and Daddy wore their prom clothes and got a nice reverend from a local church to marry them. And Daddy's proposal was so romantic. He serenaded her with a beautiful song and then pulled out a ring that belonged to his grandma and asked her to marry him."

The girls were walking toward the hangar. Anakin's ship was being looked at, so Gabby wanted to check on the progress. But, as they were just arriving, Lamenta sensed something, and she quickly tackled Gabby to get her away as an explosion happened. Both girls screamed at the sight of all the smoke that came out and fire.

The girls both froze for a moment and then...

"DADDY!/UNCLE CARMINE!" Lamenta and Gabby screamed at the same time as they ran, looking for Carmine.

At the same time, Carmine was looking for both of them.

"Daddy!" Lamenta exclaimed when she saw her father, and she and her cousin ran right into his arms.

Carmine held the two girls dearly, so relieved to see that they were okay.

"Thank goodness you're okay." Carmine sighed with relief.

"Something exploded by the hangar, Uncle!" Gabby said.

"I sensed it right before it happened," said Lamenta. "It almost got us, but I pushed Gabby out of the way and got us both to safety."

"Thank the Force you did. That could've been a lot worse."

The girls were both shaking a little, so Carmine held them close and comforted them.

Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan Ahsoka Tano arrived back at the Jedi Temple to meet with the Jedi Council, every single member physically present, which had been uncommon in the beginning of the war.

Anakin held Gabby in his arms while Carmine held Lamenta. Both girls were shaking, still traumatized by witnessing the bombing happen, even if it was from a distance just far enough to avoid getting hurt.

Anakin had been petrified when he learned his daughter and niece had been close to where the bombing happened, but he was so glad to hear they were both alright.

"How could the Separatists infiltrate the Temple?" Anakin asked.

"Worse than that it is." Yoda said.

"You think it could've been a magical creature?" Carmine suggested.

"No. I'm certain the girls would've sensed something," said Obi-Wan. "given how both are magical and were closest to where the bombing occurred."

"I sensed danger, but not magic." Lamenta said.

"I didn't sense anything." Gabby said.

"Then what could be worse, Master Yoda?" Ahsoka asked.

The Council remained silent for a few moments. Then Mace broke the ice.

"Everything is on the table," said the Korun Jedi. "We have to look at the possibility that it could've been anyone in the Temple, even a Jedi."

"Why would a Jedi wanna attack the Temple?" Gabby asked. "This is our home."

"If it was a Jedi, they wouldn't be the first to change sides." said Anakin. "Remember, both Count Dooku and General Krell each used to be one of us."

"If a Jedi this is," said Yoda. "gone to the dark side they have."

"I... I can't believe a Jedi would attack a place this sacred." Ahsoka said.

"Anakin, Padawan Tano." Mace said. "We'd like for you two to lead the investigation. We can't trust anyone who was here, even a Jedi. You and Ahsoka will provide an impartial point of view free of assumptions."

"Then leave my brother out as a suspect," said Gabby. "He and Remix stayed back at the apartment this week, and Mommy and Auntie Caroline can vouch for them. And Lamenta can see the truth. She was able to know that the Chancellor's ex-fiancé was an evil sorceress before any of us knew."

"Girl's got a point," shrugged Carmine.

"We'll also need Princess Gabriella to heal anyone injured by the bombing." Mace continued.

"We'll do everything we can" Anakin promised.

"Careful you must be, Skywalker." Yoda said. "If willing to destroy the Temple the attacker is, to great lengths they will go to keep from being caught."

"Then I guess we'll have to go to even greater lengths to catch him." Anakin said. "Carousella, Crescent. We'll need you to go contact Vivian and Dracona."

Since Vivian and Dracona had the keenest senses of smell, and Dracona was an expert on hiding, Anakin knew that they would likely prove helpful in discovering clues.

Naturally, the Skywalker-Jinn twins were equally against having their daughters go back to the hangar, given how shaken up they were. So, Carmine took the job of watching the girls while Anakin and Ahsoka investigated the Temple.

Carmine started in the medical wing, where Gabby gave the wounded kisses, while Lamenta grew some purple flowers that emitted soothing aromas to calm the patients down, as well as herself and her cousin.

Ahsoka and crime scene analyzer Russo were there too, interviewing patients.

"Did you notice anything unusual about the hangar?" Ahsoka asked a man who worked in the Temple.

"Not really," said the worker. "Although, I left the hangar five minutes before the bomb exploded."

"Did everything seem okay before that?"

"Everything seemed normal." He seemed to freeze for a bit. "Is it true a Jedi might be responsible for the attack?"

"We're not certain of anything at this point." Ahsoka said, and she left the worker to be kissed.

"This distrust is troubling," said Ahsoka. "Some of these people have worked in the Temple for years."

"Fear makes even the most trusting individual irrational."

"I'm pretty sure the only fear right now is regarding anyone who was hurt or killed, especially the children." Carmine pointed. "Some of them are too young to understand why this is happening."

"I think I know who did it," said a worker who looked Pantoran. "who blew up the hangar."

Ahsoka asked the male worker who it was, and he said he believed it was a Jackar Bowmani, one of the maintenance crew in the hangar.

"Why do you think it was him?" Ahsoka asked.

"I passed him as I was going on my shift change," said the worker. "He... he had been working all morning in the section the blast came from. It was the last place I saw him."

Russo pulled up a picture and asked the worker if it was Jackar, and the worker confirmed it was.

"I need to know, have you seen him since the explosion?" Russo asked.

"No. Truthfully, I didn't see much of anything after the explosion."

Lamenta confirmed he was telling the truth, and then Gabby kissed his cheek.

Anakin soon arrived in the hospital wing.

"Daddy!" Gabby exclaimed, running to her father and hugging his legs.

"Did you find anything?" Carmine and Ahsoka asked.

"No, but the rumor about it being a Jedi is growing." Anakin said, picking up his daughter. "I can feel the anger and confusion throughout the Jedi Temple."

"And I can feel tension rising in you." Gabby said, feeling tension in her father's shoulder. Then she looked down. "And you're briaring too."

Anakin sighed and took a few slow, deep breaths to make the briars disappear.

"Russo and I have a lead," said Ahsoka. "We're looking for one of the Temple workers, Jackar Bowmani."

"One of the witnesses saw him in the area where the bomb exploded right before it happened." Russo explained. "and we have not been able to find him anywhere."

"Come on. Not even magical creatures just disappear." Anakin said.

"Unless it was well planned out." said Russo.

"I don't know. Gabby disappears all the time." Ahsoka said, looking at Anakin's arms. "Like now."

Anakin looked and jumped when he saw Lamenta in his arms instead of Gabby, and Gabby was now standing next to Carmine.

"Seriously! How do you do that?" Anakin asked, amid the poppies that popped up in front of him when he jumped in surprise a few seconds ago.

"This kid should be a professional escape artist." Carmine chuckled.

"Regardless of there being magic around here," said Anakin, setting his niece down. "It definitely had to be well planned out to get past Jedi. I'll talk to security."

Anakin managed to find the wife of Jackar Bowmani, Letta Turmond. She had no idea where her husband was and just demanded that the Jedi find him.

Thankfully, Vivian and Dracona soon arrived. Luckily, there also happened to be a piece of clothing that belonged to Jackar, and they each took a big sniff and began immediately searching for the man who matched the scent.

Anakin and Ahsoka continued their investigation, while Carmine was helping Gabby and Lamenta pack their things to be ready go back to the apartment if things got worse.

"When we were always going from place to place, we never had to worry about being hit because we were basically moving targets." Lamenta said.

"We'll be okay, Little Lamb." Carmine said, kissing his daughter's head. "Hopefully, the truth will be found soon."

Anakin and Ashoka reported to the Council.

"So you've found nothing so far?" Mace said.

"We have a clue we're following." Ahsoka replied.

"But we still don't have answers." said Anakin.

The Council grew concerned.

"It is imperative that the truth be found soon." Mace said. "There are whispers that the Senate will have a meeting to decide whether the military police will need to become involved in the investigation."

Ahsoka was shocked. "They can't do that."

"Clones died in that explosion," Mace pointed out. "maintenance clones working on the gunships as well as civilians. The Senate tends to take notice of these things no matter where they happen."

Suddenly, Anakin's wrist-com beeped, as Russo reported that Jackar was found.

"Lock down all exits so he can't escape," said Anakin before hanging up.

And, Anakin and Ahsoka went to see Jackar, only to find that only his hand was left, not because he was close to the bomb, but rather because he was the bomb. Literally.

It turned out, there were nano-droids in Jackar's system. So, Anakin and Ahsoka had to go search Jackar's home for evidence.

Vivian accompanied Ahsoka and Anakin to Jackar's apartment, which looked like a total dump.

"Huh, this isn't the nicest place," said Anakin.

"I agree, and that's coming from a wild animal." Vivian said.

"I would've thought working for the Jedi paid better," said Ahsoka as her master knocked on the door.

No one answered the door. So, Anakin used the Force to unlock it and let him and his girl group in.

"Letta? Are you here?" Anakin called. No answer. "You search for the droids, but be careful and remember, he was a munitions expert. I'd rather not set another explosion today. So, don't breathe fire, Dracona."

"I won't," said Dracona.

"I'll see if Jackar left a note." Anakin said, looking around.

Vivian started to sniff for clues.

It was really dark, but luckily Vivian and Dracona both had night vision.

Vivian sniffed again, but only found some dust bunnies, which made her sneeze. And then, she looked happy when she found the kitchen because she was getting hungry, like always.

"Vivian! Don't eat anything." Ahsoka said as Vivian began sniffing around for food. "The nano-droids were in the food."

Vivian immediately stopped sniffing and growled.

"The question now is, did Jackar eat them willingly?" said Dracona.

"Or did someone feed them to him?" Anakin finished.

That was when Letta walked in.

"Wh-what are you doing here?" Letta asked.

"We've learned Jackar was involved in the bombing." Anakin answered.

"That can't be true."

"See if she has any nano-droids on her, Ahsoka."

"Uh, nano-droids?" Letta asked, seemingly confused as Ahsoka scanned her.

When Letta asked again after Ahsoka confirmed she was clean, the Togruta told her, "We believe someone set Jackar up and made him the bomb."

"I... I don't understand." said Letta.

Anakin started to walk over to Letta.

"Letta, I want to bring you in for more questioning." Anakin said. "Maybe you can help us make sense out of all of this."

"I'll answer any question I can." said Letta.

Anakin, and Ahsoka escorted Letta outside, but then Letta pushed a passerby into Ahsoka, knocking them both down, and Letta ran away.

Except, she seemed to forget that there was both a dragon and a viventia who was part wolf and falcon. And the latter was able to jump her easily, baring her sharp teeth at the runaway as the Jedi caught up.

"Don't worry, Letta. Vivian won't bite unless we tell her to." Anakin said.

"Please! Let me go." Letta begged, terrified of the creature holding her down.

"Running means you know more than you're telling us," said Ahsoka.

"Jackar is dead and now you're trying to blame his murder on me." Letta said.

"Did you never learn that running away from a predator only makes them wanna go after you more?" Vivian growled.

"Nobody ever said Jackar was dead." Dracona pointed out.

"But running proves you had something to do with the bomb." Ahsoka said.

"You don't know what you're talking about." Letta said, then Vivian growled and started to release her claws.

"People blamed Jedi because of you," said Ahsoka angrily. "People were killed because of you!"

"You can't prove anything."

"We can't. But we have a little girl who will literally see the truth."

"Did you feed the nano-droids to Jackar?" Anakin said, and he decided since Letta was avoiding the questions like a child, he would use a method he used to get his kids to stop misbehaving. "You'd better answer by the time I count to three. One... two..."

"I did feed the nano-droids to Jackar." Letta said.

"You set up your own husband to die?" Ahsoka said with shock.

Vivian growled. "You sick, horrible woman! I should tear you to shreds right here and now!"

"You're dealing with things you don't understand." Letta said.

"Like how you don't understand I have sharp teeth and you in a prone position?"

"Where you're going," said Ahsoka to Letta. "You'll have plenty of time to explain everything."

"We're holding Letta in the cell below the temple to await further questioning," Anakin told Master Windu and Master Yoda as they walked down the hall.

Russo also reported that no more nano-droids were found anywhere in the Temple, and based on security footage of the Temple, Jackar acted alone, meaning no Jedi were involved.

"Did this woman say what her reasons were for attacking us?" Mace asked.

"Not yet, but we're working on that." said Ahsoka.

"I think we can guess her motives easily enough. Public opinion is swaying against the Jedi. That is becoming clear."

"I would've thought people would trust the Jedi better after the Code changed and Daddy and I came back." Gabby said.

Mace sighed. "This war is becoming less and less popular every day it persists."

"Don't they know we want the war to end just as badly as they do?" Gabby asked. "I hate it that some days Daddy or someone else I love has to go into the field and I never know if they're gonna come back."

Anakin pet his daughter's head, assuring her that things would change for the better soon. But, Gabby wasn't sure she believed it, and she was normally so optimistic.

After Mace and Yoda left, Ahsoka shared her own thoughts.

"Master, I'm relieved we solved this case, but-"

"What if it had been a Jedi?" Anakin finished.

"Yes. I don't know how I would have felt if a Jedi was really behind this."

"There are going to be Jedi who disappoint us, Ahsoka." Anakin said, taking Gabby into his arms again. "But as long as we know there are good Jedi who fight for what's right, it makes it all worthwhile." He looked at his daughter and tapped her nose, making her giggle. "And create hope that the little ones will be able to grow up in a more peaceful time."
