Magical Stories Part 1

After the crazy danger on Geonosis, Anakin and the other Jedi thought it best to send Gabby back home until they were done with Geonosis. Of course, Gabby was reluctant. But that had been perhaps the most dangerous mission she would ever encounter during the Clone Wars, and she definitely needed a break. But, Carousella would likely have been needed. After the way she helped Master Mundi avoid what could have been a horrible disaster with the caves and found a safer path for them, they decided it best to keep a horse on the team. They would surely ask Queen Reigna she could spare any other guards who would be willing to join the cause. But for now, Gabby was brought back to the Temple.

Luckily, they contacted the Temple ahead of time, and made sure Gabby had a babysitter. It was nighttime by the time Gabby arrived, and she was already pretty tired after the long ride home.

Master Plo Koon met Gabby at the ship she arrived in.

"Hi, Uncle Plo." Gabby said, running into the Kel Dor's arms.

"Hello, little one." Plo greeted. "Did you have an exciting journey?"

"Always." Gabby said, before rubbing her eyes and yawning.

"I see someone has become tired." Plo chuckled. "That is appropriate, given it is already bedtime for you."

Master Plo helped Gabby get ready for bed. He gave her a bath, helped her into her PJ's, made sure she brushed her teeth properly, then he read her a story and tucked her in. But, Gabby couldn't sleep. So, she went over to her bookshelf and looked at the book Master Plo read her. "Stellaluna," one of her favorite stories about a little bat who got adopted by a family of birds after getting separated from her mother when an owl attacked. Gabby couldn't help feeling so sad when Stellaluna lost her mom, but also very happy when they reunited. She couldn't imagine what it'd be like to lose either of her parents like that. Right now, she hoped her father would make it out of battle okay.

"You know, Stellaluna?" Gabby told the picture of the bat as if it would answer. "Sometimes I wish I had siblings to keep me company. Being the only kid is nice and all, but it gets lonely when Mommy and Daddy aren't around. Sometimes I wish I could open a book and you or my favorite characters would come to life. Or, I could just jump into the story whenever I got bored."

That was when Gabby suddenly felt thirsty and stepped out of her room, only to see how dark it was. She'd never left her room in the middle of the night before, so she'd never seen how dark and scary the halls looked at night. She gulped, then she grabbed Teddy and started to go down the hall.

"It's okay, Teddy." Gabby whispered. "It's just a little dark."

Gabby wanted to use her fire power to make some light, but she'd been warned not to use it indoors, especially near anything flammable until she'd completely mastered it. So, Gabby had to rely on her other senses to get through, and the little light that shone through the windows from the moonlight. She clutched her teddy bear as she made her way to the kitchen and got herself a sippy cup of cool water.

Suddenly, Gabby heard a whoosh, and she gasped. She looked around, and she saw it was just an open window letting in a breeze. So, she used the Force to close it. Then, as she was walking to her room again, she heard a creak.

Gabby froze and looked around.

"Hello? Is someone there?" Gabby asked quietly. It was silent. She shrugged and continued on her way, but then heard another creak.

But then, Gabby took a couple more steps and found it was just the floor making that noise.

Gabby chuckled to herself and said, "What am I so afraid of? There's no monster in the Temple."

But then the little girl got back into her room and heard a strange noise. It sounded like... flapping?

"Is someone in here?" Gabby asked and looked around. "Caleb, if this is one of your pranks, it's not very funny."

Then something flew by her head, and Gabby screamed and ran out of her room to find some place safe.

Without her father or Carousella there, Gabby didn't have anyone she could snuggle with when she got scared at night. Normally in a case like this, or when Gabby had a bad dream, Anakin would let Gabby sleep beside him, or Carousella would literally take her under her wing. But right now, both of them were still out in battle. So, she had to find someone else who would let her snuggle beside them.

Just about everyone in the Temple was asleep, including the Jedi Masters. All of them were dreaming peacefully, getting some rest from the stress caused by the war. However, none of them were expecting a visit from a certain princess.

Gabby went to the first bedroom she could find in the dark, and that room happened to be her babysitter's. Master Plo was already asleep, so Gabby quietly snuck in so she wouldn't wake him, and crawled under the blankets. Except, she didn't know that the Kel Dor was a light sleeper.

Master Plo woke up and turned on his lamp and looked to see Princess Skywalker in his bed.

"Gabby, what are you doing in here?" Plo asked.

"Hiding?" Gabby squeaked.

"From who?"

"There's a monster in my room." Gabby said, sounding scared.

"Little Gabby. I am sure it's not a monster. It may just be another spider."

Gabby quickly shook her head and said, "It wasn't a spider this time. Something flew by my head in the dark."

Plo could see that Gabby was scared, but he thought it was because she just missed Anakin and wasn't used to sleeping anywhere without either of her parents in another room nearby. So he picked her up and carried her back to her room to tuck her back in.

Master Plo turned on the light in Gabby's room. It looked perfectly fine.

"See, little one? There's nothing in here." Plo said.

"Then what flew by my head?" Gabby asked.

"You probably just imagined it. Now you need to get some rest."

Plo lay Gabby down in her bed and covered her up.

"What if whatever it was comes back?" Gabby said worriedly.

"Believe it or not, I was scared of the dark when I was young too." Plo said.

"You were?" Gabby sat up and looked at Plo in disbelief.

She couldn't believe a strong, level-headed Jedi like Plo Koon could've ever been afraid of anything. Then again, all the masters had to have been kids themselves at some point, right?

"That's right. But I overcame my fear, and so will you." Plo said, laying Gabby back down and giving her Teddy. "All you need to do is think happy thoughts. The only thing to be scared of at night is your own imagination. You will be okay. Good night now, little one."

Plo couldn't kiss Gabby like the others could, so he gently stroked her hair and tucked her in, then turned out the light before leaving her to sleep.

Gabby took a deep breath to relax, and she closed her eyes to start falling asleep.

Uncle Plo is right. I've been in the battlefield, taken down a bunch of bounty hunters, and tamed a giant Zillo Beast. Why should I be scared of the dark?

That was when Gabby heard another flapping sound that woke her up. Gabby closed her eyes again, remembering what Plo told her. It's just my imagination. Just think happy thoughts.

Gabby started to imagine something sweet. A field of colorful flowers, rainbows in the sky, a land where everything was made of candy, cakes, and ice cream. But then her thoughts were interrupted by another flapping sound. Gabby shut her eyes tighter and tried to ignore the sound she heard.

"Caleb Dume, I swear if you're trying to prank me by disrupting my beauty sleep, I'm gonna be your worst nightmare!" Gabby said angrily.

After Caleb pranked her with a scary clown toy a few months ago, Gabby did not trust him one bit not to be a jokester, nor did she like clowns.

Gabby then heard the flapping again, and this time there was squeaking with it.

Gabby turned on her lamp and saw a bat in her room! She screamed as it flew around. Gabby quickly grabbed a book to shield herself with.

"Go away, bat!" Gabby screamed. "Please don't bite me! I don't wanna be a vampire!"

The squeaking went on for a while, and Gabby tried to swat it away by swinging the book around. She opened it to shield herself, and then... the noise stopped.

Gabby looked around her room. No more bat. She listened. No flapping or squeaking. The bat seemed like it was gone. But, Gabby didn't think she could sleep in her room tonight. So, she went to Anakin's room instead and slept there the rest of the night. And as she slept, she didn't notice her japor snippet glowing.

To be continued...What do you think happened?
