Lamenta's Whole New World
Once the Jinns confirmed they would be living with the Skywalkers, Lamenta got a new room. It was fairly simple at first, like Boba's had been when Anakin and Padme first adopted him. Just a bed, a table with a lamp, and a bookshelf. Lamenta had a few things, though. Her parents decorated her bed with her favorite fluffy white pillows and constellation blankets and hung a sparkly star mobile on the ceiling. They even got her a little lamp that looked like a bunch of fireflies.
After a bedtime story, the kids were all escorted to their rooms, including Lamenta. Carmine carried her into her bed and Caroline covered her up. They each gave her a kiss goodnight and wished her sweet dreams before heading to their bedroom.
But, Lamenta was having a bit of trouble sleeping. She was happy getting to sleep in a real bedroom, but she felt a little scared. And no, it wasn't the dark that was scaring her. Young Lamenta was so used to sleeping beside her parents or with one of the bodyguards beside her. She felt scared being all alone. So, she decided to try to go and sleep with her parents in their room.
Carmine and Caroline kissed each other goodnight and started to cuddle up together, when they felt a little someone crawl into bed with them.
"Lamenta? What are you doing in here?" Caroline asked.
"I wanna sleep with you." Lamenta said.
"Lamenta, you have a room of your own now." said Carmine.
"But Daddy, I can't sleep alone."
Carmine sighed. He and Caroline should've expected this. Ever since Lamenta was born, she'd shared a room with her parents whether they were staying in a hotel or riding in their various vehicles on tour. Lamenta always had someone to sleep beside her. Even when she had her own bed in one of the vehicles, it was part of a bunk bed, and sharing a room with her parents and/or dancers and crew members.
Carmine brought Lamenta back to her room and tucked her in again, telling her it would be alright.
"You have Lammy here beside you to keep nightmares away," said Carmine, holding up the plush lamb and placing it by his daughter's side. "You'll be okay, Little Lamb. You're my strong girl. Now stay here and get some rest."
Carmine kissed his daughter's head, pulled the blanket over her, and left to go back to bed himself.
About an hour went by, and Lamenta still couldn't sleep. She lay down and stared at the ceiling and started crying, feeling alone. So much was changing for her. She was finally going to stay in one place for more than just a few concerts, and she found out she had an uncle and cousins she didn't even know about. It was nice, but all so overwhelming too.
Now Lamenta had to get used to sleeping by herself in a strange new place, and that made her so scared. She tried desperately to go to sleep but couldn't. And as that was going on, a trail of magical sparkles came from her beating heart and reached all the way to Equinaro.
Queen Reigna was getting ready for bed, and was about to take off her jewels, when the trail of sparkles hit her amethysts, turning them pink.
"A little late for a Ride of Love, isn't it?" Orpheus asked.
"It's never too late to help someone in need." Reigna said.
Reigna walked to the Equinary and asked it to show her who was in need of a pony so late at night. The Equinary showed that a little princess named Lamenta Jinn was feeling scared and lost in a strange new place with strange new people who turned out to be long-lost family members. She felt unsure of this new planet she was living on, so she needed a new friend who could help her feel safe. And... the Equinary chose none other than Carousella's older brother Crescent Mareheart because he was strong and protective, but also gentle and compassionate.
And so, Reigna gathered members of the nighttime guard and anyone else who was still awake as General Mareheart escorted his son to meet the queen, who placed a message in a bottle around his neck.
"Good luck, son." General Mareheart said, nuzzling his son goodbye as the ceremony officially commenced and Crescent was sent to meet his girl.
Lamenta was still struggling to fall asleep, when she saw some magical sparkles entering the room, and she turned on her lamp to see there, beside her bed, appeared a big lilac purple pegasus with dark plum purple hair, blue eyes like Carousella's, and a white pattern on his flank that looked like the moon in its crescent phase, hence how he got his name.
Crescent whinnied as quietly as he could as he slowly walked up to Lamenta. She recognized him as one of the royal guards with Queen Reigna during the Festival of Light, and Carousella told her he was her older brother.
"Crescent?" Lamenta said, wiping her eyes. "What are you doing here?"
"Queen Reigna sent me for you through a ceremony called the Ride of Love." Crescent said. "It's when a child, or occasional adult, in need of a special friend is discovered by the holder of the Hearts of Beauty, and a magical book called the Equinary chooses just the right pony for the one in need."
"And it chose you for me?"
"Exactly. And this bottle around my neck is a message for your parents to convince them to let me stay." Crescent said. "Obviously, if we're being sent to kids, their parents have to know why we're there and that we won't be any trouble."
"But, my parents are sleeping now, and technically I should be too." Lamenta said, looking down. "But... I'm scared."
"Come under my wing, little one. Tell me what's troubling you." Crescent lay down on the floor and motioned for Lamenta to sit beneath his wing, and Lamenta did.
Crescent listened as Lamenta shared her fears and doubts about staying in a whole new place she'd never been before for an extended period of time. Lamenta had never been to Coruscant before during Count Crescendo's tour, so she wasn't yet familiar with the area. And, on top of it, she'd never slept anywhere by herself before or in a real bedroom. Somehow, not even her lamb plushie was helping.
"You know, I used to have a lot of trouble sleeping too." Crescent said. "When my dad became captain of Equinaro's royal guard, my family and I moved into the castle, and I felt pretty scared at first. But, my mother had a special way of helping me and later my little sister whenever we felt scared and unsure."
"What was it?" Lamenta asked.
"Go get your jacket and shoes on and I'll show you."
Carousella was peacefully sleeping in the stable, Remix in a bed beside hers. That was, until Carousella felt herself being licked awake.
Carousella yawned and opened her eyes to see her brother there.
"Hey, little sister." Crescent smiled.
"Crescent?" Carousella said, more awake now. "What are you doing here?"
"The Equinary chose me. And now Lamenta needs help. Think you and Gabby wanna join us for a night ride, like how we used to do with Mom?"
Gabby was already beside Crescent, rubbing the sleepiness out from her eyes.
"He already woke me up for it." Gabby said with a yawn. "There's no way I'll get back to sleep now."
Carousella, of course, left a note on her bed so no one would worry.
Carousella had Gabby on her back, and Crescent had Lamenta.
"Ready, girls?" Crescent asked.
"Are you sure it's safe?" Lamenta asked.
"Don't worry, Lamenta." Carousella said. "Crescent and I have done this dozens of times. And we're both trained as royal guards."
"It's true." Crescent supported. "Carousella's got strong magic and martial arts skills, I've got a watchful eye, and I'm accustomed to doing recon missions at night."
"Plus, we added safety belts to the saddles, just in case." Gabby added, motioning to the belt on the saddle made specially to ensure the riders didn't fall off.
And so, the group was ready to go. Carousella and Crescent spread their wings and soared into the night sky. Gabby and Lamenta each held tightly to the reins on their horses.
The two horses flew high up above to avoid traffic, and so their humans could see the stars.
At first, Lamenta was scared, but as she felt the cool nighttime wind blowing through her hair, she started to look up and see all the beautiful stars in the sky above, and the beautiful city lights down below.
That was when music began to play from Carousella's horn, and they broke out into a little song, which was pretty typical with musicorns.
Crescent: We can show you the world
Shining, shimmering splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did
You last stop to see the sights?
Carousella: We can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over sideways and under
On a magic pony ride
The ponies flew around many buildings and colorfully lit sights around the city.
Carousella & Crescent: A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
Gabby: No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming
Lamenta: A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I'm way up here
It's crystal clear
That now I'm in a whole new world with you
Crescent: Now we're in a whole new world with you
Lamenta: Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky
Lamenta felt so much adrenaline running through her as the ponies flew faster and started to soar through the air, doing a loop at one point
Lamenta A whole new world (Crescent: Don't you dare close your eyes)
A hundred thousand things to see (Carousella: Hold your breath, it gets better)
Gabby: We're like four shooting stars
Lamenta: We've come so far
I can't go back to where I used to be
Crescent & Carousella: A whole new world (Lamenta: Every turn a surprise)
With new horizons to pursue (Gabby: Every moment, red-letter)
Everyone: I'll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you
Lamenta started to look and feel sleepy, as did Gabby. So, the flying equines began to fly the two girls home.
Crescent: A whole new world (Lamenta: A whole new world)
Gabby: That's where we'll be (Carousella: That's where we'll be)
Crescent: A thrilling chase
Lamenta: A wondrous place
Everyone: For you and me
By the time they landed, Lamenta had fallen fast asleep, and so had Gabby. So, the two ponies took them both up to their rooms.
Crescent carefully lay Lamenta down in her bed and pulled the blanket over her with his mouth.
"Sweet dreams, Lamenta." Crescent whispered. And he left to join his younger sister in the stable.
The next morning...
"Good morning, Little Lamb." said a gentle voice.
Lamenta yawned as her purple eyes fluttered open, and she looked up to see her parents there. She found that she felt so much better; she'd gotten the best night sleep she'd ever had all by herself.
"Mommy? Daddy?"
"Sleep okay, Sweetie?" asked Caroline.
"Yeah. I got a little help from a new friend."
"What new friend?" Carmine asked.
At breakfast, Lamenta introduced her parents to Crescent. Of course, the girls kept it their little secret that they'd gone out flying in the middle of the night. Of course, Caroline and Carmine did question why Crescent was there, so Crescent showed them the letter from Queen Reigna.
"So, the Equinary chose you to help Lamenta, and you helped her get to sleep?" Carmine asked.
"Yup." Crescent nodded. "Queen Reigna said Lamenta needed someone who understood how she felt. Before I became a royal guard, my dad used to perform at weddings and other parties all the time. So, when he and my uncle started training in the royal guard, we moved to the castle. It was scary for me. New ponies, new settings, and being near the royal family all the time... it was overwhelming. But, my mom helped me through it all by being there for me and letting me know I wasn't alone, and she taught me how to spread that love to others."
"Queen Reigna's pretty wise when it comes to matching kids with horses." Anakin said.
"It's true. That's how I met Carousella. She rescued me as soon as we met." Gabby said.
"And Remix helped me become a better person." Boba said, petting his unicorn's muzzle.
Carmine started to think about it. Horses were great emotional support animals, according to recent studies. And Lamenta needed all the emotional support she could get now especially.
"Well... what do you think, Caroline?" Carmine asked his wife.
Lamenta pleaded her mother with her eyes.
"Looking after a horse is a big responsibility, Lamenta." Caroline said.
"I can be responsible." Lamenta said. "I really wanna keep him, Mommy."
"We can help her, Auntie Caroline." Gabby said. "Boba and I both have lots of experience with our horses."
"You know. Even when you go back on tour, I can always be Lamenta's bodyguard if she still goes with you. Assuming you don't decide to have her stay here now that you know she has an aunt and uncle." Crescent said.
It took a bit more convincing, but the Jinns decided to give Crescent a go, seeing as he made Lamenta so happy and helped her to adjust to their new lifestyle, even if it was temporary.
