Ghosts of Mortis

A great weight has been placed on Anakin's shoulders as he, his daughter, his apprentice, and his former Master rushed to escape Mortis. But, their ship needed some fixing.

"I'm getting a little tired of how unreliable the weather is here." Obi-Wan said.

"Gabby, can you do anything with those clouds?" Anakin asked.

"I've been trying for the last hour." Gabby said. "I only just learned to tell time, but I'm pretty sure it's been at least an hour."

Gabby tried to use wind to blow away the clouds, but the rain just kept falling.

"See? Even with power over plants, wind, and water, I'm not Mother Nature." Gabby said.

"Well, you both did well recently. How do you feel?" Obi-Wan asked.

Anakin sighed and said, "I'm not sure we're doing the right thing by leaving. The Son is consumed by the dark side."

"And since he can't see me or Peppermint, I'm not sure any of our bright ideas will do any good." Gabby said.

"At least it means he can't hurt you."

"But if we stay, we may be used to the dark side's advantage." Peppermint said. "I don't need to be a Jedi to recognize that."

Ahsoka, wearing goggles, came out from where the engine was.

"Well, you want the bad news or the really bad news?" Ahsoka asked.

"No good news?" Gabby said, not liking the sound of that.

"Well, let's try the bad news, laced with a little optimism." Obi-Wan suggested.

"He means sugarcoating it." Peppermint said.

"We've got two cracked shilo pins, a busted power converter, the engines should be fired twice to dump debris, and the backup vents need charging." Ahsoka listed.

"Too bad my healing magic doesn't work on machines." Gabby said.

"My magic only makes candy, sadly." Peppermint said. "So unless you want to turn our only way home into a gingerbread ship, my power's pretty useless here."

"Sounds terribly downbeat," said Obi-Wan. "Can it be fixed?"

"Uh, I can reroute the primary initiator, weld the dampening vents, and that might give us enough power to leave the atmosphere. After that, I have no guarantee she'll hold together."

"We'll take our chances," said Obi-Wan. "Better than staying here."

"Yeah. And Mommy, Boba, and the other ponies are probably wondering where Daddy and I are by now." Gabby said. She could see a dream cloud appear above her head with Padme feeling worried sick, and having Boba sit down near her. Boba wants to go look for them, but Padme tells him, "No, Boba. I don't need two lost children." and Carousella says, "I knew I shouldn't have let Gabby talk me into taking the day off!"

As Obi-Wan exited the ship, he saw Anakin taking a bike with him.

"Where are you going?" Obi-Wan asked.

"To find the Father. I'm not convinced that the Son will be contained here without our help."

Gabby started to climb on, but Anakin put her down on the ground.

"No, Gabby. You need to stay here." Anakin said.

"Don't you remember what happened the last time you tried that?" Gabby crossed her arms and raised her brow.

"I guess you have a point." Anakin said.

"Anakin-" Obi-Wan began before Anakin interrupted him.

"If I don't get the Father's blessing to leave, it'll haunt me forever."

And so, Anakin and his daughter took off to find the Father.

Meanwhile, the Father was more protective of the Daughter than ever.

"I was a fool to believe he could control the future," said the Father. "You were nearly lost because of me."

"But how is it, Father? That I was saved?" Daughter wondered out loud. "I felt a string presence of light. Something made my power stronger. But I cannot be certain what."

The Father had his daughter lay down to rest. She was saved, but she was still a bit weak.

"Rest well, my child." The Father said before leaving her to rest. He then sensed someone behind him. "You should have left by now."

"Our ship needs repairs," said Anakin.

"Do not underestimate my son. He will seek your ship to escape our isolation and sow terror through the universe. And while you are here, he will use you to do it."

"What will you do, now that he's given himself over to the dark side?"

"It is my actions that have unleashed great danger on the universe. I must kill him."

"But he is too powerful for you alone."

"Hmm, perhaps. Perhaps not. The Force will decide."

"I can help you."

"The choice is no longer yours to make. Both our destinies are clouded. This place is strong with the Force. Darkness has no hold here. Go. Ask, and you will know what to do."

And off Anakin went.

Gabby, meanwhile, looked around for a possible answer to what needed to be done now.

"I trust you will not scream this time?" said a familiar voice.

"Only if you answer me this. Who are you?" Gabby asked, turning and seeing the same ghost from before.

"You will receive that answer in time, little one." said the ghost, approaching the girl. "For now, you must understand this. Your father is the Chosen One. You are key to his destiny."

"How?" Gabby asked.

"Your family has secrets connected to your power which you will learn of soon. But you must continue learning to control them." the ghost said. "You have helped your father throughout many ordeals, as well as many others. The light within you has acted as a beacon of hope for those who would cease their own at the first sight of complete darkness."

"By helping others remember how to smile, I'm helping Daddy's destiny?" Gabby asked.

"Indeed you are. And you must know this. You are not the only one of your kind."

"Not the only one of my kind?" Gabby was confused. "What do you mean?"

"You will learn in time, Princess." The ghost said. "There is greater magic in you than even you know."

"Wait! I still don't even know your name."

"I am Qui-Gon Jinn. Now you must discover your destiny and continue to help others find theirs. May the Force be with you."

And the ghost man disappeared.

Gabby decided to sit and meditate on this.

She relaxed, and she could see the visions from her dreams, this time, a little more clearly. She could see the woman and the man from before. And this time, the man's face was a little clearer. And she could see it was the ghost she saw! But, how was it possible? Who was the woman, and who were those two babies? But then, Gabby could see something else.

Gabby could see a terrible destiny being shown to her father by the son. Anakin tried not to look, but Gabby could see it clear as day. Younglings were being killed, Padme was begging Anakin for her life, a Sith Lord was in power, Anakin and Obi-Wan fought each other, and there were beings of dark magic attacking like in the dream with Prince Reginald and Serafina before they sent Miranda away. And the terrible vision ended with a dark face that breathed heavily.

Gabby snapped out of meditation with a gasp. Her father was in trouble, and she had to help him!

Gabby ran as fast as she could to find her father. But, she came across what looked like a volcano. She gasped as she saw the hot, boiling lava that filled the mountain.

Obi-Wan soon arrived on a hover-bike, Peppermint following close by.

"Uncle Obi-Wan!" Gabby exclaimed. "Daddy's in trouble!"

Obi-Wan quickly entered the mountain of lava and found Anakin and asked if he was okay.

"There has been a change of plan." Anakin said, Force pushing his bike into the lava. His eyes were yellow. "Sorry. You will not understand what I have to do to end the Clone War. You will try to stop me."

The Son then shocked Obi-Wan and threw him to the ground.

Obi-Wan held his stomach as he got up.

"Anakin, why?" Obi-Wan asked.

"I'm sorry. I have seen that it is the Jedi who will stand in the way of peace."

Anakin then flew away on the other bike, the Son declaring Anakin his now, cackling maniacally as he shapeshifted into a flying monster and flew away.

Luckily for Obi-Wan, Gabby sent down a vine strong enough to withstand the heat, and helped Obi-Wan out.

Obi-Wan contacted Ahsoka to warn her about Anakin. But, Gabby ran off to go help her father.

Gabby found Anakin boarding the ship, and she grabbed him with a vine and pulled him out.

"Daddy! Please listen to me. The Son is using you!" Gabby said. But, when she tried to get Anakin to see her, she found that he couldn't see her just like the Son couldn't. And he couldn't hear her either, nor did he appear to remember her. However, she realized that her powers had some effect on him. Maybe, if she thought hard enough, she would find a way to awaken Anakin from the trance he was under.

The Son could not believe Anakin was trapped in some vine.

"I don't know where that plant came from," said Anakin, still under the Son's spell. "But if I know my old master, he will try to stop us too. Together with your father, they could be a formidable opponent."

"I can turn the tide in our favor. Stay here." said the Son before he left.

"What did he show you?" the Father asked Anakin.

"I've seen what I become, and I cannot let that happen." Anakin said.

"And for this, you join him? Your destiny can change just as quickly as the love in one's heart can fade. Nothing is set in stone."

"But I will cause so much pain." Anakin said.

"If there is to be balance, what you have seen must be forgotten."

The Father touched two fingers to Anakin's head, and Anakin collapsed to the ground.

Gabby found herself able to touch her father, and she gently kissed his cheek, hoping he was okay. She gently took his hand and started to gently sing to him.

For one so small, you seem so strong

My arms will hold you, keep you safe and warm

This bond between us can't be broken

I will be here, don't you cry.

But, Gabby found herself being the one who needed to be sung that last verse. A single tear dropped from her eye, landing on her father's cheek.

Anakin woke up as he felt water dripping on his face. And that water turned out to be his daughter's tears.

"I have brought you back to my monastery," said the Father.

"What happened?" Anakin asked. He wanted to comfort his daughter, but he did not wish to alert any of the Force wielders of his daughter's presence. He still had no idea how they didn't even sense her.

"My son broke the laws of time," said the Father. "and showed you what you should never have seen."

"I don't... remember." Anakin rubbed his head.

"I have erased that time. We shall never know."

Gabby thought that was probably best for now, at least until she could figure out how she was supposed to fit into all this, based on what Master Jinn's ghost told her.

"Master!" Ahsoka exclaimed as she and Obi-Wan arrived on a bike.

"Are you alright?" Obi-Wan asked.

"I think so." Anakin replied, getting up. "But we must stop the Son once and for all."

"We have little time," said the Father. "and you'll get only one chance. You know what you must do."

"How quaint," said the Son, arriving at the scene. "My own personal send-off."

"I ask you one last time. Do not leave, my son."

"You have no power to keep me, old man. You must understand by now, this planet is not my destiny."

"What you will do will destroy all that is good. I beg you, restrain yourself and stay."

"I cannot."

"And then it shall be. I love you, my son."

"Do you?"

Anakin ignited his lightsaber, but the Son grabbed him by the throat, only for a big vine to grab him by the throat and yank him away, making him choke a little. The son could not see who was attacking him, and the plants came in seemingly from out of nowhere, and so did many balls of light, blasting him and distracting him. He didn't even realize his father had the sword that could kill him now.

"I held hope that you could resist the dark side. But I see now, there is no going back." And the father stabbed himself.

"No!" The Son cried out in dismay. "It did not have to be this way!"

"Yes, my child. It did." said the Father. "You and I are tied together, and your strength runs through me. This way, I take your power."

"Please, don't die." the Son cried.

"I always knew there was good in you." The Father hugged his son one last time, and looked at Anakin, who then stabbed the Son in the back with his lightsaber.

"And so you have betrayed me, Father." The Son said as his last words.

"It is done," said Anakin.

"And now I die," said the Father. "My heart broken, but knowing the role you will play."

"And what is that?"

"You are the Chosen One. You have brought balance to this world. Stay on this path. and you will do it again for the galaxy. But beware your... heart"

The Father gave his last breath and disappeared as he died.

The planet was illuminated with a bright light, and everything went white.

Gabby found herself waking up on the cot in the ship they'd arrived on Mortis in. She yawned and picked herself up, looking around.

"Huh? Was I... dreaming?" Gabby wondered. She looked in the cockpit and found everyone else asleep too.

Rex contacted the ship on the hologram, and Anakin answered.

"We read you, Rex. Can you hear me?" Anakin asked.

"Yes, Sir. Standing by. We were worried." Rex said. "You were off the scopes there for a moment/"

"A moment?" Anakin chuckled. "We've been gone more than a moment, Rex."

Rex was confused.

"Sir, I don't understand. You'll need to explain."

Anakin and the others all looked at each other. And Anakin said, "You wouldn't believe me if I told you."

"It's a long story." Gabby added, climbing into Ahsoka's lap.

"We're coming in now." Anakin said.

And so, Anakin, Ahsoka, Gabby, and Obi-Wan finally made it to the Jedi cruiser, left to wonder what really happened throughout the whole ordeal on Mortis and what it all meant.
