Crescendo Back on Tour Part 4: Lamenta's Love Song
As promised, Carmine got out his guitar and did a private concert just for his family, unmasked. He encouraged everyone to sing along, and the two musicorns added their own sounds to it. Remix, being Remix, couldn't resist adding a sick beat.
And this time, Caroline and Carmine sang a little duet.
Carmine & Caroline:
A moment like this
Some people wait a lifetime
For a moment like this
Some people search forever
For that one special kiss
Oh, I can't believe it's happening to me
Some people wait a lifetime
For a moment
Like this
Caroline had a beautiful voice. At one point, some of the family asked her why she and Carmine didn't sing in a duo. But, their answer was pretty simple.
"People would start to suspect something if they noticed Count Crescendo's manager is also never with him if I were disguised to be his partner on stage." Caroline explained. "So, I took on the manager job to ensure nothing goes wrong."
And when the couple finished their song, they ended it with a kiss.
"Everything I know about music on and backstage, I learned from my parents." said Lamenta.
"Speaking of music..." said Gabby. "Didn't you wanna show your parents something, cous?"
Lamenta seemed a bit nervous. Her cheeks turned a little pink.
"I... well..."
"What is it, Sweetie?" Caroline asked.
"Lamenta wanted to sing a song to welcome you and Uncle Carmine home."
Gabby took Lamenta's hand and walked her to where they set up a little stage.
"Don't worry, Lamenta. Just do what I do when I get nervous in front of a crowd." Gabby whispered. "Imagine everyone wearing pink bunny suits."
Lamenta looked at everyone else in the room and imagined like Gabby said, and it made her burst out laughing.
"Maybe that's a little too silly for me to imagine while I sing." Lamenta said, trying to quiet her giggles.
"It scared away your nerves, didn't it? That's the whole point."
Lamenta actually found she felt a lot less nervous after a good laugh. But, she still wasn't sure about singing.
"You don't have to sing like your parents." Gabby told her. "Just sing like you."
"I used to be terrified of singing in front of people too." Boba said. "But Remix taught me that I wouldn't feel nervous anymore if I just sang and let my emotions run free."
Gabby got out her keyboard and Boba got his guitar.
"You got us right here by your side, Lamenta." Boba said.
"Start the beat when ready, Remix." Gabby said.
Lamenta breathed as she picked up her little microphone. She reminded herself that this was just her family she was singing in front of her, not a crowd of strangers who may or may not judge her without knowing her first. Her family would love her no matter how she sang or danced.
The raven-haired girl looked to Remix and nodded for him to start, and he turned on a beat from his horn, Gabby started playing her keyboard, and Boba played his guitar. And Lamenta started to sing.
I don't want to make a scene
I don't want to let you down
Try to do my own thing
And I'm starting to figure it out
That it's alright
Keep it together wherever we go
And it's alright, oh well, whatever
Everybody needs to know
Lamenta slowly started to feel more and more of her nerves slipping away as she sang, and by the next verse, her body loosened up more and she started to dance too. And she looked mostly at her parents as she sang.
You might be crazy
Have I told you lately that I love you?
You're the only reason that I'm not afraid to fly
And it's crazy that someone could change me
Now no matter what it is I have to do, I'm not afraid to try
And you need to know that you're the reason why
This song just felt so right to sing to her parents. It was true: she loved them, and they were the whole reason she learned about the music industry. Now, here she was, following in her father's footsteps as a singer, even if it was just for a day.
I don't even care when they say
You're a little bit off
Look me in the eye, I say
I could never get enough
'Cause it's alright
Keep it together wherever we go
And it's alright, oh well, whatever
Everybody needs to know
You might be crazy
Have I told you lately that I love you?
You're the only reason that I'm not afraid to fly
And it's crazy that someone could change me
Now no matter what it is I have to do, I'm not afraid to try
And you need to know that you're the reason why
If it was raining, you would yell at the sun
Pick up the pieces when the damage is done
You say it's just another day in the shade
But look at what a mess we made
You might be crazy
Have I told you lately that I love you?
You're the only reason that I'm not afraid to fly
And it's crazy that someone could change me
Now no matter what it is I have to do, I'm not afraid to try
And you need to know that you're the reason why
You might be crazy
Have I told you lately that I love you?
You're the only reason that I'm not afraid to fly
And it's crazy that someone could change me
Now no matter what it is I have to do, I'm not afraid to try
And you need to know that you're the reason why
Everyone, including the band cheered as Lamenta tossed her hair back for her big finish.
Lamenta felt so much adrenaline running through her veins as she took in how she actually sang her heart out for the first time in front of more than just her lamb plushie.
"I knew you could sing, Little Lamb." Carmine said, picking up his daughter and kissing her cheek.
"You sang so beautifully." smiled Caroline. "Come here."
And Caroline smothered her daughter with so many hugs and kisses.
"Mommy!" Lamenta whined as her mother showered her with at least a hundred kisses.
