Crescendo Back on Tour Part 3: Reunion
Over an hour passed since the fight between the Skywalker-Jinn cousins. All three of them were sent to their rooms to calm down and think about their behavior.
Gabby was laying on her bed, tears in her eyes. She didn't feel good at all. Not with how things were around the house, nor with the way she acted earlier. Then, she heard a knock at the door, and the door opened. In came Qui-Gon.
"Knock-knock." said the grandfather.
Gabby said nothing. She couldn't be bothered to try and turn the moment into a knock-knock joke with her grandfather.
Qui-Gon sat on Gabby's bed.
"I see you are a little calmer." said Qui-Gon calmly. Gabby still said nothing. "Your parents have told me a lot about you, Gabriella. From what they've said, you usually get along with everyone, especially your family, and I believe it. However, what I saw earlier has made me curious. You and Lamenta have been the best of friends since you met, but earlier you were fighting. Tell me, why is that?"
Gabby said nothing at first. Then she sniffled and said, "My parents forgot about me. They love her more than me now."
And Gabby started crying.
"They've been spending all their time with her instead of me! Daddy dances with Lamenta and doesn't notice me, Lamenta gets everything she wants and the best of everything she doesn't even ask for, and Mommy even started singing Lamenta my lullaby. I think they wanna replace me with Lamenta."
"Gabby, that's not true." Qui-Gon said.
"And she got a unicorn I wanted while I got a zebra." Gabby said. "I like it, but still. Unicorns are my favorite animal. Even you're giving her more attention than me."
Qui-Gon then took Gabby into his arms.
"Gabby, you were an only child once, weren't you?" Qui-Gon said.
"Yeah, but what does that have to do with-" Gabby said, confused, until her grandfather interrupted her.
"When Boba was adopted into your family, did your parents love you any less then?"
Gabby thought back to when she was three. That day her parents brought Boba home, her whole life changed forever. Her parents began showing Boba some attention, but they told her ahead of time that they wouldn't love her any less than they did before. And afterward, she found that she loved having an older sibling. Sure, it took some getting used to, but they were one happy family then as they were now. Only now, their family was much bigger.
"No. But Boba didn't hog all my parents' attention." Gabby said. "Lamenta's been getting everything she wants lately, and it's not even her birthday. And Mommy and Daddy were my parents first."
"Perhaps, but she is here by herself." Qui-Gon said. "Think about it. This is the first time she's ever been away from both of her parents for an extended period of time. She has never even been away from them for one full day."
Gabby then looked at her grandfather, realization filling her eyes.
"Remember right after Carmine and Caroline left? How sad Lamenta was? Crying, your father being the first person she turned to because he looks like your uncle? How do you think you would've felt if you were in Lamenta's position?"
Gabby thought again, and she remembered the time the Council took her from her parents for two weeks.
Gabby and her parents were forced into that position unfairly, but still. It was not fun for her, and unlike Lamenta, she did not have the same loving attention and affection she was getting now. Lamenta was probably feeling homesick now. For her, home was wherever her parents were. And now she and they were far apart. Even with Gabby's parents doing all the same things Lamenta's parents did for her, they weren't her parents.
Gabby slid out of her grandfather's lap and started to head to Lamenta's room, only to bump into her in the hall. Apparently, Qui-Gon must have spoken to her as well.
"Lamenta." Gabby said.
"Gabby." Lamenta said.
"Lamenta, I'm really sorry about the way I acted earlier." Gabby said. "I shouldn't have blamed you for anything. I was just jealous that you were getting all the attention."
"I'm sorry too." Lamenta said, to Gabby's surprise. "I never meant to make you or Boba feel jealous. I never meant to take your parents' attention either. I just... I just miss my parents so much. And your daddy looks like mine, and I guess I thought..."
"I get it, Lamenta." Gabby said. "I'm really sorry for yelling at you. And for pushing you too."
"I'm sorry I pushed you too."
"To be fair, I deserved that. I should've been more understanding. You miss your parents. You."
"I should've been more understanding too." said Boba, walking in. "Lamenta, I'm sorry I got mad at you too. Can you ever forgive me?"
"Or me?" said Gabby.
"Of course." Lamenta said. "Group hug?"
And the three cousins embraced each other in a group hug. But that special moment was interrupted when Lamenta heard Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star playing from her room.
"My parents are calling!" Lamenta said excitedly, rushing to her room. "Come on!"
The three kids went to Lamenta's room and Lamenta pressed some buttons on her computer, and on the screen was her parents.
"Hi, Lammy!" said Caroline.
"Hey, Little Lamb!" Carmine waved.
"Hi, Mommy. Hi, Daddy." Lamenta said happily.
"Hi, Uncle Carmine and Aunt Caroline." Gabby and Boba greeted.
"It's good to see you, kids." Carmine said. "Has the family been taking good care of you, Lamb?"
"Very much, Daddy." Lamenta said.
"They've been taking pretty good care of her all right." said Gabby.
"Where are you now?" Lamenta asked.
"We're within the Starlight district now." said Carmine. He held his phone to show how colorful the city was outside a window. "Pretty impressive, isn't it?"
The kids were astonished.
"It's so beautiful." Lamenta said. "Now I wish I'd gone with you."
"Don't worry, Sweetie." smiled Carmine. "Daddy will bring back a souvenir for you. We'll get your cousins something nice too."
"We really miss you, Sweetie." Caroline said.
"I miss you too, Mommy." Lamenta said. "When will you be back?"
"We're halfway done with the tour, Sweetie. You'll be back in our arms very soon."
"We got a little surprise for you too. It'll be coming in the mail soon."
"What is it?"
"If we told you, it wouldn't be a surprise." said Carmine.
That was when Qui-Gon came in.
"Hello, Carmine." he smiled.
"Hey, Dad." Carmine said. "Are the kids behaving themselves?"
"Indeed. They all appear to be very well now." Qui-Gon ruffled the kids' hair.
"How's the tour going?" Boba asked.
"It's going pretty well." said Carmine. "Though my hand hurts from signing so many autographs. And I've gotten quite a workout running from fans and paparazzi."
Carmine stretched out his left hand. Another way he kept his identity secret: he always signed autographs with his left hand despite that he was right-handed so people couldn't trace him through his handwriting.
"Where are Anakin and Padme?"
"Daddy's with Ahsoka and Uncle Obi-Wan on a mission on Balith, and Mommy's at a Senate meeting." Gabby said. "But we'll tell them you said hi."
"Thanks."
"Has Lamenta gotten her warm milk and bedtime story?"
"We've read through Peter Pan at least fifteen times already." chuckled Qui-Gon.
"It's my favorite." Lamenta said.
"She's become the queen of our house, pretty much." Gabby said. "And admittedly, it got a little hard, but we're all doing much better now."
Caroline then got an alert on her phone that it was almost showtime.
"We'd better skidoodle. Count Crescendo's opening song is supposed to start soon." She said.
"We'll call you again soon." said Carmine, changing his hair to become Crescendo. "When we get back, I'll sing just for you."
"I love you Count Crescendo." Lamenta said.
"Love you too, Little Lamb." Carmine, or rather Crescendo, said, blowing the night princess a kiss before ending the call.
Lamenta sighed.
"You okay?" Gabby asked, placing a hand on Lamenta's shoulder.
"Yeah. I just miss them." Lamenta said.
"You know... when they come home, we can sing them a song to welcome them home." Gabby said.
"Really?" Lamenta said.
"Yeah, we've all heard you sing. You have a beautiful voice."
"I do?"
"Yeah. You can sing a song to let your parents know how much you love them."
"But I've never sung by myself before." Lamenta said.
"You were able to sing that song with me and the ponies when we took that midnight flight."
"That was when it was just us and no one was watching."
"Not anyone we saw. This time, it would be for your parents. They'll cheer you on no matter what you sing. Remember what your daddy always says: 'Sing from the heart.'"
Lamenta smiled a little at her cousin's encouragement.
About a week later, the kids received an envelope in the mail addressed to Lamenta.
Lamenta opened it and found inside...
"Tickets to Count Crescendo's final concert on tour!" she exclaimed.
Anakin looked at the tickets.
"Not just any tickets either. These are V.I.P. passes." said Anakin. "I thought you had to camp outside ticket booths for a week or win a contest to get these."
"Nope. You just need to be related to the singer." Lamenta said. "And we're all V.I.P.'s in my daddy's eyes. I get to sit there all the time."
"What's it like?" Gabby asked.
"Well, you get treated like royalty." Lamenta said. "Last time I sat in the V.I.P. section, the people who worked there brought out a chocolate fountain with strawberries, marshmallows, and all kinds of sweet things to cover in chocolate."
The kids licked their lips, imagining such delectable treats.
"You're making me hungry." Boba said. And his stomach agreed.
"If they serve cinnamon buns, we'll have to keep Boba on a leash." Carousella joked. "Otherwise, he'll get on a sugar rush and crash."
"Oh, we should figure out what to wear." Gabby said.
"It's your uncle's concert." Anakin said. "Don't go overboard."
"We still gotta look nice. The fact that Uncle Carmine is family alone is enough to obligate us to look nice."
So, Gabby and Lamenta rushed to their closets to pick an outfit for the concert.
Another week later, it was the night of the final concert on Count Crescendo's tour. The Skywalkers and two members of the Jinn family sat in the V.I.P. room, and just like Lamenta said, there were great treats set out for them. Anakin dug right into the brownies, and just like any other time he ate dessert, got his face covered in chocolate and crumbs on his clothing.
"Anakin, brownies are for eating, not wearing." Qui-Gon scolded, cleaning his son's face off.
"Look at Grandpa, being a good daddy." Gabby chuckled.
"As a prince, as well as a grown man, you will need a lesson in how to get food in your mouth and not on your clothes."
Qui-Gon dusted the crumbs off Anakin's shirt.
"I can't help it." Anakin said. "Crumbs are attracted to me like women are despite that I'm married."
Padme cleaned the last of the crumbs from her husband's face.
"Ani, somehow keeping other women from hitting on you is easier than keeping you clean around desserts." Padme said. "You're going to need to start wearing a bib if this keeps up."
Pretty soon, the lights turned down as it was time for the show to begin.
Everyone was so excited when Crescendo came out, and he sang and danced to some of his greatest hits and tossed some bracelets out to his fans.
Lamenta was so excited to see her father again, even though he was a short, yet so far, distance away, and she couldn't call him 'Daddy' when she cheered. It still felt good to hear him sing. And tonight, many of his greatest hits were about family, love, and never truly being apart.
"Thank you, everyone." Crescendo said in an auto-tuned voice after his latest performance. "Sadly, it's almost time to end this show."
Awww
"But before we wrap it up, I want to sing a whole new song. This goes out to a very special someone in my life."
Lamenta had a feeling she knew just who he was talking about.
Backup: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Crescendo:
If I'm the sun, then you're the moon
If you're the words, then I'm the tune, yeah
If you're the heart, then I'm the beat
Somehow together, we're complete, yeah
There are times my world is crumbling and the rain is crashing down
But everywhere you are, the sun comes out
Crescendo & Backup:
Even when you're gone
I feel you close
You'll always be the one
I love the most
You're in my heart, on my mind
You are underneath my skin
And anywhere, anytime that you need anything
Count me in
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Count me in, yeah, yeah (Backup: Oh, oh)
Crescendo:
I don't need to say a word, no
'Cause you know when I'm happy and when I'm hurt
We're close as pages in a book
'Cause you make me feel better with just one look
There are times my world is crumbling and the rain is crashing down
But everywhere you are, the sun comes out
Crescendo & Backup:
Even when you're gone
I feel you close
You'll always be the one
I love the most
You're in my heart, on my mind
You are underneath my skin
And anywhere, anytime that you need anything
Count me in
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Count me in, yeah, yeah (Oh, oh)
Crescendo:
'Cause we're two halves of the same new heart
That beats to our own drum
You're the shadow always by my side
One that sometimes knows me better than I know myself
And I wish that you were here with me tonight
Crescendo & Backup:
Even when you're gone
I feel you close
You'll always be the one
I love the most
Crescendo:
I love the most
Crescendo & Backup:
You're in my heart, on my mind
You are underneath my skin
And anywhere, anytime that you need anything
Count me in
Backup: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Crescendo: Count me in, yeah, yeah, yeah
Backup: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Crescendo: Count me in
Backup: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Crescendo: Count me in
"Thank you, Coruscant!" Crescendo smiled, waving to the crowd. "Goodnight!"
And that was a wrap.
After everyone else left, the family was escorted backstage, where they saw the crew cleaning up.
Lamenta looked around until she saw...
"Mommy! Daddy!"
Lamenta ran right to her parents, immediately being scooped up into her mother's arms and showered with kisses. Carmine tossed Lamenta up and down as she laughed with delight, and he gave her a big kiss on her cheek.
"Did you miss us?" said Carmine.
"Yes!" Lamenta said, kissing her father's cheek.
"Good to see you in person again, little brother." Anakin said, hugging his brother.
"Ugh! Are you ever gonna stop that?" said Carmine.
"Don't count on it."
Carmine rolled his eyes and gave his niece and nephew a hug too, as well as his father and sister-in-law.
"You have no idea how crazy our time on tour has been." said Carmine.
"Let's get home." Padme said. "I'm sure we're all pretty tired and ready to get some rest."
Of course, Lamenta crawled into bed with her parents that night. And this time, they did not object.
