Altar of Mortis

Previously on Legend of the Jedi Princess...

A mystery on Mortis. Obi-Wan Kenobi, his unicorn Peppermint Twist, Anakin Skywalker, his Padawan Ahsoka Tano, and his daughter Gabriella set out to find the origin of a mysterious distress call, only to be stranded on a distant planet. There they discovered three beings more powerful with the Force than any Jedi have seen before. The Father keeps a fragile balance between his Daughter, who controls the light, and his Son, who falls closer to the dark.

The Father asked Anakin to stay and take his place to preserve the balance between light and dark. But, Anakin refused.

Now, our heroes are about to depart for their journey home... or so they think.

Anakin was resting with his daughter peacefully sleeping on his chest. Or peacefully at first.

Gabby had a vision. She could see a woman and a man together, in what seemed to be a building based on Tatooine, but she couldn't quite make out their faces. But, she could also see that they were each holding a baby boy. But, they had to be separated for some reason.

"I will take him somewhere safe and come for the other soon," said a voice that sounded oddly familiar. "Stay strong until then."

And one baby was taken away. The man took the baby to an older woman in what looked like the lower levels of Coruscant.

"His name is Carmine." The man told the older woman and he handed her the baby. "Please take good care of him. I shall return soon."

But when the man returned to the same place sometime later, the woman and her other baby were gone. And he had no idea where to find them. So, after what seemed to be a long time, he returned to the Jedi Temple, and the man started crying.

Gabby woke up with a gasp, just as Anakin did the same.

"Were you both having nightmares?" Ahsoka asked.

"Something like that," said Anakin and Gabby at the same time.

"Jinx!" Gabby exclaimed, hoping to lighten the mood a bit. Then the ship shook, Gabby nearly falling to the floor before Anakin caught her.

"If you're done napping, I could use a little help here." Obi-Wan said.

"I'm coming." Anakin said.

Gabby screamed and Ahsoka grunted.

Anakin turned around to see the Son had taken his Padawan captive.

Gabby tried to tackle the Son, but she went right through him, like one of them was a ghost. Peppermint tried to bite the Son, but her head went right through his middle, freaking everyone out.

"Leaving so soon?" smirked the Son. "Not without this, you won't."

The Son opened the hatch below and took Ahsoka.

"Ahsoka!" Anakin and Gabby exclaimed.

Anakin put Gabby back into the luggage compartment to keep her hidden and safe before rushing to the cockpit.

"What's going on?" Obi-Wan asked.

"The Son took Ahsoka." Anakin answered, hitting some buttons.

"What in the blazes are you talking about?"

"Move, let me fly." Anakin immediately took control of the ship. And they followed the Son, hoping to rescue Ahsoka.

Gabby felt herself being jerked around, eventually falling out from the luggage compartment due to her father's crazy steering, and as usual, the ship had a crash landing.

Everyone exited the ship.

"Any sign of him?" Anakin asked.

"No," said Obi-Wan. "But I think obvious where he's taken her."

And the group looked at a tower.

"Seems kind of ironic." Gabby said. "I'm the princess, Ahsoka's the Jedi Knight, and she's the one locked in a tower, leaving the princess on the team to rescue her on a beautiful steed."

"We must hurry." Anakin said, but Obi-Wan stopped him.

"Anakin, this wasn't a mistake." Obi-Wan said. "He brought us here for a reason. We must not get involved. Any conflict here could have dramatic repercussions for the universe at large."

"I don't care. He's too powerful for Ahsoka. I won't leave her alone."

"Me neither." Gabby said.

"There's no sugarcoating this," said Peppermint. "We're in a real pickle this time."

"We are in the middle of something we don't truly understand." Obi-Wan pointed out. "We'd be wiser to confer with the Father first."

"There's no time." Anakin said.

"This is what he wants, to divide us."

"It's my fault he took her!" Anakin exclaimed.

"You must feel how strong this part of the planet is with the dark side. The Father will know what to do."

"He can't help us," sighed Anakin, and he began to head to the tower, Gabby following on foot, seeing as Peppermint was Obi-Wan's horse, and she agreed to stay with him.

The Dark side might have been strong on this planet, but Gabby remembered that the dark was only a scary thing if one allowed it to be. So, she told the dark that it didn't scare her anymore, and she started to use her powers again. One of the greatest spells she learned was creation, and she did that by combining her elemental powers. She used earth and fire this time, making some beautiful golden flowers grow to light the way for her and her father to follow.

Anakin calmed down slightly at the sight of the beautiful flowers and their light. That was something he loved about his daughter, and how she was growing like the plants she grew. Somehow, even in the darkest moments, she always found a way to keep smiling, including now. She became his beacon of hope, and Anakin knew he could always rely on her to be there for him when he needed her most. She became like his best friend in the family in the four and a quarter years that she existed. Now he only hoped they could find Ahsoka in time.

Anakin and Gabby soon found Ahsoka.

"Ahsoka! You're okay!" Gabby exclaimed happily. "We were all so worried."

"You're safe now," said Anakin. Let's go."

"Are you proud of me, Master?" Ashoka asked, confusing both Anakin and his daughter.

"What? Uh... Of course, Snips. Of course I'm proud of you." Anakin said. "Now let's get out of here."

"He's right. Right about everything." Ahsoka turned around, revealing herself in a scary condition, and her eyes were yellow. "You must join him. He only wants what's best for the universe."

"Hey, what's wrong with you?" Anakin asked.

"Always with the criticism, Master." Ahsoka rolled her eyes. "Never really believing in me, trusting me. Well, I don't need you anymore."

"Ahsoka. Ahsoka listen to me." Anakin said as calmly as possible. "He has done something to you. Snap out of it. This isn't you, Ahsoka."

"Isn't it? I feel more like myself than I ever have." Ahsoka said. "He asked me to give you a message. He said if you don't join him, he will kill me."

"I won't let him."

"Then you will be forced to kill me."

Ahsoka ignited her lightsaber and began fighting Anakin. Gabby quickly grew a vine and lassoed Ahsoka in it to slow her down, and used her own Force power to swipe her lightsabers.

"I don't want to fight you, Ahsoka." Anakin said, getting closer to his apprentice, who struggled in the vines Gabby trapped her in. He tried to figure out what was wrong with her.

Gabby and Anakin both concentrated and looked Ahsoka over. Then, Gabby looked at Ahsoka's hand and found bite marks on her wrist.

"Daddy, look! Something bit her." Gabby pointed out.

"That might be the cause, but I don't know how we can be sure." Anakin said.

"I might."

Gabby kissed Ahsoka' hand, and the wound did heal, but she was still struggling a bit.

"Daddy, you need to calm her down." Gabby said.

"What?"

"You're the Chosen One. You can save her." Gabby told him. "You've comforted me a bunch of times when I've literally created an emotional storm. You can save Ahsoka in this case too. I know you can, and so do you."

Anakin looked at his Padawan and carefully approached her. He thought about what his daughter said, and he believed he knew what to do. He gently caressed Ahsoka's face and had her look into his eyes.

"Ahsoka, listen to me." Anakin said. "I am proud of you. I care about you. I love you. You're more than just my apprentice. You're family and nothing could ever change that. This isn't you. You're better than this. I know you are. You know you are. Come back to me. Come back to us." Anakin rested his forehead on Ahsoka's. "Come back to yourself."

And as a single tear fell from Anakin's eyes, something happened. Moments later, Ahsoka came to. She looked healed, and wasn't trying to attack anymore.

Obi-Wan soon arrived on the scene, and he was shocked by what he saw. Meanwhile, someone else came to realize something was off.

The Son could feel his powers getting weaker, and the Daughter felt hers getting stronger somehow, almost as if some invisible force even they didn't know about were there, giving power to the light.

"What is this?!" The Son said. He found himself struggling to fight his sister as they engaged in battle

The Father soon burst in and made his children stop, and threw them out the window. Luckily, they didn't hit any of the Jedi.

"So glad you could make it to our little party, Father." Son said, shooting red bolts at the Father, who shielded himself.

"You will stop this." Father said.

"You are too weak for me, old man. You mean nothing to me anymore."

Obi-Wan tried to give Anakin the weapon to kill the son, but Ahsoka took it instead, but when the Son saw that she was no longer under his control, he struck her down and took the sword.

"NO!" Anakin and Gabby screamed.

The Son Force pushed Anakin away, but not Gabby.

"The Jedi have brought me the dagger. And you have brought yourself. Now, Father, you will die."

"No!" Daughter exclaimed, and she sacrificed herself to save her father.

The Son looked distraught by his own action. He screamed to the skies "Why?" And he flew away.

Anakin and the others ran to Ahsoka. She looked completely lifeless.

"No," said Gabby. "No. Not now."

Gabby started crying as she saw the lifeless body of the Togruta whom she'd loved as her big sister for as long as she could remember. She didn't even live to see her twenties. Gabby's tears fell onto Ahsoka's face as the Father held his daughter.

"My daughter. What have I done?" The Father asked, filled with all bad emotions running through him.

"Father, do not hate him." Daughter begged her father, taking his hand. "It is his nature."

Storm clouds filled the sky as the pain and sadness in the air grew.

"No. All is lost," said the Father, feeling defeat. "The balance has been broken. I thought by bringing you here, I would... But I have destroyed everything."

Anakin looked at Ahsoka, then at the Father.

"Can you help her?" Anakin asked.

"There is no light. The evil had been unleashed, and the dark side shall consume her."

"You must help her!"

"I cannot undo what is done. There is no hope."

"Yes, there is. There's always hope!"

Daughter touched her father's face and pointed to Ahsoka.

The Father walked up and motioned for Anakin to stand between Daughter and Ahsoka.

"Then let my daughter's last act be to breathe life into your friend." the Father said.

Anakin touched a finger to the daughter and Ahsoka's foreheads. Then, his eyes glowed white as something almost like magic happened. Obi-Wan, Peppermint, and Gabby shielded their eyes from the light. Nothing seemed to happen at first, but then Ahsoka started to cough.

Anakin immediately hugged his apprentice, and so did Gabby, who planted a big kiss on Ahsoka's cheek.

"Hey, Snips." Anakin smiled.

"What's going on?" Ahsoka asked.

"Long story," said Gabby. "It's just good to see you."

However, to the Father's confusion, his daughter was alive. He couldn't explain why. No one could. The Jedi were all in total shock of how it happened.

Gabby thought of all that was happening, and she decided that if they ever got off Mortis, she had to consult some books and a few experts on potentially more advanced magic.

"We will stop your son," Anakin told the Father.

"No, you must go now." The Father said. "He needs your ship to leave the planet. You must leave before he can take it."

"What about you?" Obi-Wan asked.

The Father caressed his daughter's cheek as she was living after he almost lost her forever.

"I shall mourn all that I have done, what almost was, and all that is yet to be." Father said.

Thunder rumbled, and the Jedi immediately began on their way to the ship once more. Hopefully, this time, they would get off-world.
