A Necessary Bond

Previously on Legend of the Jedi Princess...

Pursued by pirates! During an important rite of passage, six Jedi younglings, Carmine Jinn, and Ahsoka Tano are ambushed. Protecting the young Jedi, Ahsoka was captured by the nefarious Hondo Onaka and taken to the planet Florrum. Marshalling their courage and training, the younglings infiltrated the pirate stronghold and rescued Ahsoka. Now we find our heroes in a race to their starship, with the pirates closing in.

Now the young heroes were racing to their starship with the pirates closing in.

The pirates shot at the Jedi's speeder.

"They're gaining on us!" Petro exclaimed.

The pirates managed to hit the ship enough to make it rock a little. Petro and Katooni ducked down.

"Uh, I think they're still upset that we tricked them." said Katooni.

"Um... you think?" Carmine said with sarcasm.

Carmine had the two younglings get inside the speeder first.

"They'll get over it once we're off their planet." said Petro.

But when the pirates shot them and made the ship jerk everyone around, Ahsoka was not so sure about Petro's claim.

"Did anyone see where my glasses landed?" Carmine said, on the floor with his glasses missing again.

"Carmine, again?" Ahsoka groaned.

"I can't help it if I'm near-sighted!"

Petro then called Ganodi and told her they needed a quick evac.

"Come in, please. Ganodi."

But Petro got no answer.

"Maybe the pirates are jamming the signal." said Zatt.

"Where could she be?" said Katooni.

"Ganodi. Huyang. Come in."

Petro kept trying to get a hold of Ganodi. Still no answer. This was so because it took longer than anticipated to reattach Huyang's head. But, eventually she did hear his call for help and answered it.

"We're all gonna need repairs if you don't have the engines running." Petro told her.

"Where are you?" Ganodi asked over the comm.

"Ganodi, it's Ahsoka." the Togruta intervened.

"Padawan Tano! We rescued you!" Ganodi gasped.

"Almost. But we need you to get us home. Are you ready?"

"Just tell me what I need to do."

Ahsoka told Ganodi to fire up the engines and sent her coordinates to meet them at.

"We'll be right there." Ganodi promised.

R2 steered the ship and lowered the boarding ramp as they got close enough to get everyone on board.

Ahsoka and Carmine got right to getting the younglings off safely.

While Ahsoka used her lightsabers to deflect the pirates' blaster bolts, Carmine helped the kids get on board, starting with Byph. But then, the tank suddenly started to move in another direction.

"The steering must've come loose!" said Ahsoka.

So, Petro jumped in and started to steer.

Gungi grabbed hold of Byph's legs when the ship was back in reachable position. But, no one except Petro knew that they were heading right for a cliff! Petro quickly swerved the ship just before they could go over. Luckily, the ship moved as well and started to get more of the younglings on board.

"Peppermint, we could use a little help here!" Carmine called, helping the kids.

Peppermint started to concentrate and use her sugar-coated magic to slow the pirates down, but the pirates managed to shoot one of the engines on the Jedi ship. Luckily, Ahsoka warned R2 in time to get him out, and the kids jumped down, Carmine and Peppermint catching them, but they still landed pretty roughly.

"Nice try, little Jedi." said a pirate, picking up Ahsoka's lightsabers. "But it looks like you're coming with us."

Ahsoka, Carmine, Peppermint, and the younglings were all tied up as the pirates began escorting them to the pirate stronghold. But then one pirate looked ahead through his scopes and saw an army of battle droids marching and arriving there first.

"It's an invasion." said the pirate.

That invasion was being led by none other than General Grievous.

While Hondo and his pirates were having one of their banquets, one pirate who spotted the droids outside tried to warn them, only to be shot to death by a droid. And that was when the Separatist droids started to enter and shoot Hondo's men. Then in came Grievous.

"General Grievous, I presume?" said Hondo. "What a surprise. Have a seat. What, may I ask, is the honor?"

"You can dispense with the pleasantries, pirate." said Grievous, stepping on the table and standing above Hondo. "This planet is now under Separatist control."

Grievous held Hondo by the front of his jacket, but Hondo did not seem afraid.

"Uh-huh. And what do you suppose that means?" Hondo asked.

"It means you have a new master, pirate scum." said Grievous, forcing Hondo to look into his scary yellow eyes. Then he threw Hondo across the floor, the pirate having a rough landing.

Hondo picked himself up and ducked when he saw Grievous throw something towards him, which turned out to be a holo-transmitter transmitting a call from none other than Count Dooku.

"Hondo Onaka, we meet again." said the count. "As I recall the last time we met face-to-face, I was your prisoner. And you attempted to barter me off to the highest bidder, as well as prevented my delivery of the Jedi's princess."

"But can you blame me?" said Hondo. "I mean, a Sith Lord and a Republic Jedi Princess. What a handsome price one of you alone would-"

"Silence!" Dooku bellowed. "You are going to pay the price for your treachery."

"Well, I'm a reasonable man. Name the price. I'm sure we can reach-"

"There will be payment, but no deals, only demands. Your entire arsenal will be melted down. Everything you own is now property of the Separatist Alliance."

"Now you go too far!" Hondo said angrily, throwing down his glass, breaking it. "Unacceptable! This is an outrage. This..."

As Hondo attempted to make a deal, Grievous had two droids with electro-staffs approach him and force him away, the last thing Hondo said being, "This is not good business!"

Meanwhile, outside...

"This isn't good." said a pirate, watching through his scopes. "Those scrappin' droids are looting the place. They're dismantling our ships."

"The fact that Grievous is here with his entire fleet," said Ahsoka. "means that Master Kenobi must have been overrun."

Peppermint snorted and lay her head down, worried for her rider.

"This entire system is now in Separatist controlled space." the Togruta continued.

"What should we do?" asked Katooni. "There's nowhere to run."

"You're not running anywhere, skug." said the pirate. "You're still my prisoner. Maybe I can trade you to the Separatists in exchange for my freedom."

"Pfft. Like the Separatists would actually go through with a deal like that even if they promise it." Carmine said, rolling his eyes.

"He's right. Grievous didn't come here to make deals." said Ahsoka. "He already controls the planet and the system."

"Meaning, if you hand us over to him, he'll kill us and then you." Carmine said. "And I'm pretty sure you weren't planning on that, were you?"

"We have a common enemy in Grievous. Together, we can get out of this. You must have some other ships somewhere. You are pirates."

"Hondo's got a private fleet," said the pirate. "but only he knows where the ships are."

"Then we'll have to rescue him. I know Grievous. And I know droids." said Ahsoka. "With my help, you stand a better chance."

The pirate then got behind Ahsoka with his blaster, and he shot the restraints.

"You got yourself a deal, Jedi." he said.

R2 drove a tank into the yard of the pirate stronghold, when he was stopped by some battle droids.

"You captured this tank?" said the droid with surprise. "Not bad for an astromech."

R2 beeped as though to say thank you, but the battle droid asked for his ID number.

While R2 kept the droids distracted, the unicorn, the Jedi, and the pirates snuck behind some large crates and found their way into the building.

Hondo, meanwhile, struggled in some restraints he'd previously had Dooku trapped in a couple years back. Suddenly, the cell doors opened as two battle droids collapsed to the floor, having been struck by lightsabers.

"Jedi. And here I thought you made your escape, no?" said Hondo.

"No. There were complications." said Ahsoka.

"Now, we have to put aside our differences and be friends or else we're all gonna die here." said Carmine.

"Ah, very diplomatic." said Hondo. "Ha! I knew you did not come back to rescue Hondo how do you say it? Out of the goodness of your hearts. No, no, no, no. You need something from me."

"Huh. You're actually smarter than you let on."

"A ship, to be specific." said Katooni.

"Ah, yes. A ship, a ship." Hondo said. "Ah, but where would we find one of those? My new friend General Grievous has destroyed my ships."

"We know you have one, a whole pirate fleet." said Petro.

Hondo glared at the two other pirates in the room.

"And one of my old friends, apparently, has been talking too much. Ah, what does it matter? We'll never reach the vault anyway. Grievous's army is way too big."

"Don't give up." said Petro. "We can fight."

"If I may, sir." Huyang intervened. "I have instructed younglings for over 1,000 generations and these are among the best I have ever seen."

"Well, then, show me." said Hondo, interested. "Show my your swords, tiny Jedi. Show Hondo you are ready to fight."

Byph, Gungi, Petro, Zatt, and Ganodi all ignited their lightsabers.

"Ah. And you, child." said Hondo, looking at Katooni. "And you... Carmen, was it?"

"Carmine." the oldest Jedi corrected.

"Yes, yes. Where are your sabers?"

Carmine took his out from his hair.

"Mine isn't finished." said Katooni, taking out the pieces of hers. "I never finished it. I've done everything right, but it won't work."

"You must trust that the components that form your lightsaber are meant to be together." said Huyang. "There is no other way. It is the Force that binds them."

"Yes, I was just going to say that." said Hondo. "Finish it now. Finish, finish! This is worth the price of a ship. To see the construction of a Jedi lightsaber, this... this is priceless. Finish it, and together we can defeat Grievous."

"You can do it, Katooni." Carmine said. "Have confidence. Have faith."

Katooni sat down and concentrated. She placed in her crystal and trusted the Force like Huyang said. And before she knew it, she ignited a brand new blue-bladed lightsaber.

"Well, cut me down, little Jedi." said Hondo. "It's time to leave."

And Katooni did cut him down, Hondo landing on his feet.

While the others were congratulating Katooni, Ahsoka approached Hondo directly.

"So why the big show? You know we have to work together." she said.

"Because, Jedi, you know what we are about to attempt is very dangerous." said Hondo, beginning to exit the room. "And I may be a pirate, but I do not like taking children into battle."

"That didn't seem to bother you when you attacked us."

Hondo laughed and said, "Well, today is a new day and lucky for you, today, I like children. Now, let's free the rest of my men. I call I ride the horsy!" Hondo jumped on Peppermint's back.

"Get off!" Peppermint said, throwing the pirate off, snorting angrily. "You could stand to learn how to handle horses properly."

Carmine chuckled as he approached Hondo. "Peppermint's magic may be sugar-filled, but she's not so sweet if you just jump on her."

"Now you tell me." Hondo groaned, laying on his back on the floor.

Carmine helped him up.

And so, the pirates and Jedi began opening the other cells.

Meanwhile, Grievous and his army were in the process of burning down the stronghold, when his transmitter started beeping. Grievous then received a message that the prison area was under attack.

"There are several miniature Jedi and a unicorn here, and a normal Jedi too." said the battle droid.

"What? You aren't making any sense." said Grievous. "What Jedi?

"The little ones, half the size of normal Jedi. They're freeing the prisoners and my knees!"

Zatt sliced that very droid by his knees. And Petro decapitated the droid, Carmine jumping in to make sure the droid was dead.

"Skywalker." Grievous growled. Even with the longer hair and glasses, Grievous recognized the facial features, which the identical twins shared.

Grievous ended the transmission and ordered a tactical droid to prepare to open fire.

"We will bring the building down on their heads.

And the droids got ready to do just that.

Fortunately, though, the Jedi and pirates were already exiting the ship. Unfortunately, there was an army of droids out there with blasters at the ready, already shooting at them. But the Jedi and pirates fought together with their own blasters and sabers. And Peppermint added a magic touch as well as a touch of sweetness by gumming up some of the droids.

The Jedi and pirates all jumped on speeders and rushed away as fast as they could. Naturally, Grievous went after them.

Grievous and three battle droids chased after the escapees, attempting to shoot them down.

Peppermint, as well as one of Hondo's men, attempted to shoot the Separatists down. But one of the pirates nearly got shot down. And some rocks collapsed as the tank Ahsoka and the other Jedi were on went the wrong way.

Katooni, who rode with Hondo, notified him of this, but he told her not to worry, and he pressed a button on a little controller. That opened a door disguised as a rock wall, and inside was a huge garage of ships.

"What about the others? We can't just leave them." said Katooni.

"You are welcome to come, small one." Hondo said. "You may join our merry band of pirates."

"I won't just run away. Ahsoka trusted you. We all trusted you."

Hondo stopped and sighed.

Meanwhile, Ahsoka and her group were still speeding down the wrong path, Grievous attacking them.

Ahsoka and the younglings held him back, but Carmine was hiding inside the tank. Grievous was much scarier than any crazed fan or reporter he'd run into as Count Crescendo.

"We have to do something!" Huyang said.

"What?"

"I don't know! We have to shake Grievous off. Get aggressive!"

R2 then plugged himself into the ship and made it spin around and around until it started to crash land in the desert.

Carmine made his way out of the ship, but looked a bit pale and nauseous.

"Too aggressive!" Carmine said, looking like he would puke at any moment.

"Far too aggressive." Huyang agreed, sounding tired as he and R2 made their ways out.

R2 beeped something to Huyang.

"Yes, well, it was and effective strategy but not what I would recommend." said Huyang.

Gungi then growled as he spotted something approaching from the dust. General Grievous crawling right toward them like a giant spider!

Carmine became frightened again, and wanted to run away. But he couldn't leave the others behind. The others all stood together as Grievous ignited two blue lightsabers. But, Carmine knew that if his daughter had been one of those younglings Grievous was threatening, he would not hesitate to jump in and protect her.

"So many lightsabers to add to my collection." Grievous laughed.

"Not today, Grievous." Carmine said, activating his lightsaber.

"Skywalker, we meet at last." Grievous said.

Carmine was really starting to get annoyed by people mistaking him for Anakin. You'd think his glasses would be a dead giveaway to tell them apart.

That was when Hondo's ship came along, and on the boarding ramp was Katooni, who called everyone to hurry on board.

"Run. All of you run!" Ahsoka said.

The younglings and the droids all ran while Ahsoka and Carmine took on Grievous together.

Grievous ignited two more lightsabers. Green ones. And he began fighting the two Jedi. Even against two Jedi, Grievous was powerful. But when Ahsoka pushed Grievous back, Carmine vocalized a high note loud enough to make Grievous's hearing start ringing. The younglings quickly called Carmine and Ahsoka to get on board. So, while Grievous was distracted, the two oldest Jedi Force-jumped together onto the boarding ramp.

But Grievous got his head straight in time to reach the end of the cliff and declare to his enemies, "You will never defeat Grievous. Never!"

"I wouldn't be so sure." Hondo smirked. And he began shooting at Grievous from the ship.

"Did we get him?" asked Katooni.

"I can't tell." said Petro.

"Me neither." Carmine said.

And BOOM! cannons began firing as Grievous's army finally caught up to them and attempted to shoot Hondo's ship down.

"Show's over, kiddies." said Hondo. "Let's get out of here."

And they flew the ship away from the battlefield and out of Florrum's atmosphere.

Hondo brought the Jedi up onto a Jedi cruiser and listed the cost of different things to Obi-Wan. Of course, Peppermint gave Obi-Wan a good licking when she saw he was okay.

"Believe me, Kenobi. Staging a rescue is not an inexpensive proposition." said Hondo.

"So you mean to tell me you were staging a rescue not attempting to hijack a Jedi starship?" said Obi-Wan.

"You're welcome! Oh, the thanklessness! What an accusation. I am gone! I will send you my bill!"

Obi-Wan looked at Cody and Peppermint and shook his head.

Katooni looked at the pirates as they left.

Obi-Wan approached the two Padawans.

"Ahsoka. Carmine. It's good to see you're all safe." said Obi-Wan.

"Yes, Master." Ahsoka and Carmine said at the same time. Carmine nodded for Ahsoka to speak.

"We had quite an eventful mission."

Carmine laughed and said, "Crazy is more like it."

"The mist eventful since the time Master Yoda went to find his lightsaber crystal." said Huyang.

The kids then begged for Huyang to tell them about it.

"I'm afraid that story will have to wait." said Obi-Wan. "For now, be proud. You have survived an ordeal few your age could."

Obi-Wan ignited his own lightsaber and held it in the middle of the circle they stood in.

"Welcome home, young Jedi."

The younglings all ignited their lightsabers, and so did Ahsoka, and they touched their lightsabers together. Carmine was the last to ignite his.

Obi-Wan and Ahsoka were both in total shock to get a clear view of the color of Carmine's lightsaber.

"What? Why does everyone keep looking at my lightsaber like that?" Carmine asked.

Everyone deactivated their weapons.

"May I see your lightsaber, Carmine?" Obi-Wan asked, holding out his hand.

Carmine placed the brass weapon in his master's hand.

Obi-Wan was impressed by his new Padawan's lightsaber. Brass was not a commonly used metal for lightsabers. But it was very shiny and beautiful. However, Obi-Wan couldn't say he'd seen even one lightsaber like this.

"What does the color of my lightsaber have to do with anything?" Carmine asked.

"Carmine... you know that when most magical creatures cast spells, they unleash a particular-colored light?"

Carmine thought back. It was true. Whenever Gabby cast spells, pink usually came from her hands. Or sometimes blue, red, or green, depending on what power she used. When Lamenta cast spells, her aura was purple or dark blue. And when Anakin cast spells, once he learned how, most of his auras were green. And when Carmine cast spells...

"Yes. And mine is usually orange. Look." Carmine removed his glove and activated a bit of magic, an orange glow coming from his hand.

"In lightsabers, orange is a very rare color." Obi-Wan explained. "Only one other Jedi has ever been known to have one, as far as many, including myself, know."

"What does it mean?"

"Orange has a meaning of birth and renewal on Naboo. But that is all we really know about it, because it is so rare."

"Was that other Jedi a magical creature like me?"

"No, they were not. Remember, your brother has magic as well, but his first lightsaber was green, one of the most common lightsaber colors alongside blue."

Carmine then thought of something else.

"Master...can I ask you something about The Gathering?" He asked his master.

"Of course. What is it?"

"Did any Jedi ever hear voices?"

"Voices?"

"Like someone singing?"

Carmine turned a bit pink, feeling embarrassed.

"No need to be embarrassed, Carmine. The Gathering is different for every Jedi. What did the voice you heard sound like?"

"Like this." Carmine then vocalized the song he heard.

Ah-Ah Ah-Ah

Ah-Aahh Ah-Ah-Aahh

"I can't say I've heard that before." Obi-Wan said, stroking his beard.

"You have a great singing voice, though." Ganodi said.

"Thank you." said Carmine.

But when the younglings finally got back to the Temple, they were shocked to see it covered with so many plants of all different colors.

"What happened to the Temple?" Petro said.

"It looks so beautiful." Ganodi said. "I've never seen so many flowers before."

Achoo!

That was when Anakin and Gabby walked by, both of them covered in colorful pollen.

"What happened to you two?" Carmine asked, seeing his brother and niece looking like walking rainbows. "You look like rainbows."

"That's what I said." said Gabby.

"Kind of a crazy explanation for that." said Anakin.
