A Jedi Wedding Part 1: Meet the Parents...Again
The wedding was only two days away now, everyone was so excited.
Padme, Anakin, and the children arrived at a home that was familiar to the adults, but new to the children. Gabby couldn't remember the place very well, but she knew this was where the Naberrie family lived.
Gabby was very excited to see her grandparents, and this was the first time they would meet Boba, and the horses.
However, one member of the family was particularly nervous. Boba.
After adopting him, Padme and Anakin sent pictures to the Naberries, just like they sent of Gabby as she was growing up. And when Ruwee, Padme's father, insisted that they go stay with them before the wedding, Padme accepted happily. Her parents were ecstatic to see how much their youngest granddaughter had grown, as well as to meet their first grandson.
The speeder soon arrived at the Naberrie household.
"Well, here we are." said Anakin. He was first to exit the vehicle, helping his bride out first and then getting the kids. But, Boba was hiding under the hood of his blue jacket, feeling pretty shy. Even after almost three months of living with the Skywalkers, meeting new friends, and being swarmed by the paparazzi, Boba still wasn't used to the new lifestyle.
"Don't be nervous, Big Brother." Gabby said. "You're gonna love Grandma and Grandpa. They're the best. Just watch out when they get affectionate. They were all over me last time."
"Are you sure they're gonna like me?" Boba said.
"They'll love you, Sweetie." Padme said. "They're really looking forward to meeting you."
The Skywalker family arrived at the Naberrie house, and they were happily greeted by Padme's parents Jobal and Ruwee.
"Padme! We've missed you so much." Jobal gave her daughter a hug and kiss.
"I've missed you too, Mom." Padme smiled. "Daddy."
"Here's my little girl." Ruwee held his daughter dearly. "And here he is, the man who won my girl's heart."
"Mr. and Mrs. Naberrie. Good to see you again." Anakin said.
"Anakin, Ruwee and Jobal is how you may address us. You're family now."
After losing his mother, Anakin never grew used to the idea of calling anyone else 'Mom', and because he never had a father, he wasn't sure how he felt about calling anyone 'Dad'.
"Hi, Grandma. Hi, Grandpa." Gabby greeted, running to get a hug from her grandparents.
"Is this the little princess?" Ruwee said, picking up his granddaughter and giving her a big hug.
"It sure is." Anakin said. "Three years old already, and still growing."
"She's gotten so big since we last saw her, Padme." Jobal said, and then she noticed the boy hiding a little behind Padme. "And this must be our new grandson."
"Mom, Dad..." Padme said, coercing Boba out. "This is Boba. Boba, this is my father Ruwee and my mother Jobal."
"Don't be shy, buddy." said Anakin, giving Boba a gentle push. Remix also gave Boba a nudge with his muzzle.
"Let us get a good look at you, boy." Ruwee said.
Boba took a couple slow steps toward his adoptive grandparents. He still wasn't quite used to having a big family, and needed time to adjust. Of course, Padme's parents were very happy to meet him and welcome him to the family.
"You are even more adorable than I imagined," smiled Jobal, gently caressing Boba's face. "Such a handsome young man."
"Don't forget us." Carousella said.
"Of course not." Anakin chuckled. "Ruwee, Jobal. These are our kids' friends. Carousella and Remix Mareheart."
"We're cousins, Carousella and I." Remix said.
"Come inside, all of you." Ruwee said. "Lunch is being prepared. You must all be tired from traveling all this way."
And inside, they met Padme's sister Sola and her daughters Ryoo and Pooja.
"It's so nice to finally meet you both." Sola greeted her niece and nephew. She was a bit surprised by the horses though. "And you brought ponies."
"That's Carousella and Remix." Boba said. "They're from Equinaro."
"They're musicorns." Gabby said. "They make music."
"Like this." Carousella said, trotting around and making pretty calliope music play from her horn.
"Wow." said Ryoo and Pooja.
"I can do that too." Remix said, and he made some upbeat techno-sounding music come from his horn.
Carousella rolled her eyes. "Showoff."
"Children, why don't you go play with the horses outside?" Padme suggested.
"Okay, Mommy." Gabby said. "Come on, cousins."
The kids were left to play together, and Gabby introduced Boba to their cousins. Sola's children were curious about the horses they brought along too, and they all seemed to get along fine. They started to have fun with the musicorns playing music, Ryoo and Pooja each getting a turn to ride the horses, and Gabby brought out Teddy to show her cousins how to play Teddy Bear Tag.
"Boba seem like a fine young boy," said Ruwee to Anakin.
"He's grown a lot since we adopted him," said Anakin. "It's thanks to Gabby that Boba got a second chance to have a family, and Padme and I couldn't be happier to have two children to love."
"He seemed shy when he saw us," said Jobal. "How old is he?"
"He'll be eleven in less than three months now." Anakin said. "He's just not used to a big family, or being off Kamino for as long as he has by now."
Anakin told his in-laws Boba's story. As expected, they were shocked by all the trauma Boba faced, as well as the journey he and Gabby went on before Boba found himself with a new home. They felt for the boy, and sincerely hoped they could make Boba feel welcome and that he was part of the family as they did with Anakin.
"Let me see the ring," said Sola, holding her sister's left hand to look at her engagement ring. "Mmm-hmm. Your man definitely has great taste."
"Our friend Roya really deserves most of the credit." Anakin said. "She designed it and all the wedding outfits, most of which I haven't' seen."
"Well, it is considered bad luck for the groom to see the wedding dress before the ceremony." Padme pointed out.
"Touche."
The grownups looked outside to see Gabby growing flowers and vines for the other kids to play on, and they started swinging around on the vines and seeing who could climb the highest.
"It's certainly interesting having a child with a...magic touch, isn't it?" Sola said to Anakin.
"You don't know the half of it." Anakin chuckled. "You should've seen when she made flowers sing and dance."
"Take good care of my sister, okay?" Sola said sternly. "She's the only one I've got, and I'd hate to see her heart broken."
"Don't sweat it," said Anakin. "I have every intention of giving Padme and our children everything they deserve."
Jobal called the children in for lunch, but the horses had to stay outside. So, they stuck to eating some of the plants Gabby grew.
When the kids were put to bed later that night, Anakin was still awake. The wedding was in two days, and he was still nervous about his vows. He knew what he wanted to say, but he worried about what else could go wrong. Security was to be tight. Some of the clones, Naboo's royal guards, as well as royal guards from Vulgardia, Equinaro, and the griffin kingdom Plumalas, would be guarding the ceremony from wedding crashers and paparazzi.
Word on the street was that the tabloids were offering a payment of 10,000,000 credits for a shot of the bride and groom's first kiss. And, Prince Gus Gagliardi of the royal family of Plumalas heard from some word of mouth that Senator Rush Clovis would be heading to Naboo, but they hoped that was just a rumor people spread for gossip. Given Padme's history with Clovis, it was no surprise he was left off the guest list, and the guards were shown a picture to memorize.
Anakin stared out the window while his wife was asleep, thinking about how everything would change. He quietly snuck out of the room and went to the guest room next door where Boba and Gabby were both fast asleep, looking so peaceful. Things were definitely going to change a lot for them after the wedding too, but he knew it was for the best.
Marrying Padme publicly would mean Gabby could address Anakin as her father freely and hopefully no one would suspect him of being her biological father. And Boba... right now, the media saw him as a symbol of the couple sealing their promise to be married and become a family because they adopted him together and renamed him under Anakin's family name.
Anakin smiled as he gently ruffled his adopted son's hair, and he gently stroked his daughter's hair as she slept like a baby. He gently pulled the blanket over both his children and gave them each a kiss. One thing he knew for sure wouldn't change was how much he cared for both of them. And in his heart, he swore that he would love them both forever. And not even death could stop him from loving them more and more each day.
And when Anakin returned to his and Padme's bedroom, he found her awake and standing at the window as he had before.
"Couldn't sleep either?" Anakin said quietly.
"It's a pretty big day coming up," said Padme, not looking behind her. "The wedding of our dreams, and yet it still feels... like I'm uncertain of what will happen. This time, everyone will know we're married, and it'll affect everything we do."
Anakin wrapped an arm around his love and pulled her closely.
"I'm scared too, Angel." Anakin said. "I've never been more nervous in my entire life."
The couple looked into each other's eyes as they embraced each other.
"A lot will change after this wedding," said Anakin. "And I'm okay with that. We both knew from the beginning this would be a big change. And we knew the same thing when each of our kids came into our lives. But the way I feel about them, and the way I feel about you... that will never change. I'm not sure what will happen afterward, but I've never been more sure about anything than I have about marrying you."
Those words made both Anakin and Padme feel better.
"Think you'll be able to keep calm during the rehearsal tomorrow?" Padme asked with a smile.
"Ready as I'll ever be." Anakin said with a smile. He pulled his wife closer. "Walking down the aisle, no problem. But there's one part of the ceremony I'd love to practice right now."
Anakin leaned forward, and so did Padme. Before they knew it, they were kissing. And throughout the night, they embraced one another, and kissed each other until they were finally ready to go back to sleep. It was probably two in the morning by the time they finally took a break from the smooch fest and got some shuteye. They were going to need it. Especially considering what each half of the wedding party had in store for them.
