Skywalkers in Encanto
Anakin and Gabby exited the Casita and walked down the path toward the village.
The two of them looked around at how simple, yet beautiful the village was. It was a lot less advanced compared to their world. Just like Mila said, there were no flying vehicles, no skyscrapers, or any humanoid species other than humans. They even dressed a lot differently than back home.
"Hey look. Donkeys." Gabby said, seeing a donkey pulling a cart by.
Gabby looked around and wanted to go pet a donkey that was just standing around. Of course, Anakin wanted to make sure he kept an eye on her.
As the donkey's owner picked Gabby up so she could pet its head, Anakin heard a familiar voice.
"Anakin? Gabby? Is that you?" said Mirabel, who was holding a basket.
"Oh, Mirabel. Hi." Anakin said. "Or as you say here, hola."
"Hi, Mirabel." Gabby said, hugging her friend.
"What brings you to the Encanto?" asked the young woman.
"Well, we were kinda bored, needed some time away from everything." Anakin said. "So, we just thought why not come for a friendly visit. And so far, Gabby seems to like the donkeys."
Mirabel giggled and said, "Well, there's more to the Encanto than donkeys. I'm actually helping my mom today. Wanna come meet her?"
"Sure." Anakin said. "Come on, Gabby."
Gabby followed her father and Mirabel to a stand where Julieta was feeding injured people some arepas and bunuelos.
"Got the last batch, Mama." Mirabel said, placing the basket on the table.
"Gracias, mijita." Julieta said, giving a man with a broken arm a bunuelo, making him all better.
"Wow, you weren't kidding about your mother's cooking." Anakin said, amazed.
"Oh, Mirabel. Who's your handsome friend?"
"Flattered, but married." Anakin said before motioning to Gabby. "Anakin Skywalker is my name, and this is my daughter."
"I'm Gabby." Gabby waved. "Short for Gabriella."
"They're two of the people who saved Rosella." Mirabel said.
"We had to fight some pretty bad people to save her, and she was under a spell." Gabby said. "But we broke her out, and Daddy caught the bad count and saved the chancellor too.:
"Oh. That was so brave." Julieta said, continuing feeding.
"Mirabel says you heal people by feeding them." Gabby said, noticing.
"Yes, it is my gift."
"Mama is a great cook just for feeding too." Mirabel said.
"I can heal people too." Gabby said. "Daddy and I have powers of our own."
"Oh, do you?" Julieta said, intrigued.
"Yeah. Except, to heal people, I kiss them."
Gabby gave a man who was scratched a kiss on his cheek, and he healed. People around them couldn't believe what they'd seen.
"How did you do that?" a little boy asked.
"I was born with that power." Gabby shrugged.
"Hey, is she one of the princesses Mirabel and Mila have been telling the kids about?" One woman asked.
"Princess Gabriella Skywalker, at your service." Gabby introduced with a curtsy. "But you can call me Gabby. And there's my Daddy, Prince Anakin."
"Just Anakin is fine." Anakin clarified.
People had a lot of questions about the other world. What the people were like, what their home looked like, what they ate, who they were. The kids were especially excited to hear about it.
"Relax, ninos." Mirabel said, gently getting the kids to move away from Anakin. "Give el hombre his space."
"Hey, I've spent three years getting shot at, fighting droids, and been tackled by my kids more times than I can count." Anakin said. "I can handle a few kids."
"Are you really a prince?" asked a girl."
"Yes. I'm also a Jedi Knight."
"Do you ride a horse and wear shining armor?" asked another child.
"A horse, yes. Armor, no. I wear special robes, like what I'm wearing now, and carry a lightsaber, which a sword made of a laser, which is a light that can cut through things. Very dangerous. Not for kids to play with."
Anakin found a place to stand where the kids could sit as he shared some stories about his days as a Jedi Padawan and some battles he'd faced. Gabby also joined in and told them about the day they defeated Admiral Trench, the scary bad guy "who looked like a giant spider" according to Anakin.
"And then I whacked him like a pinata!" Gabby said, pretending to swing a bat.
Suddenly, there was the sound of something crashing, and some gears rolled across the ground like coins.
And in came Mila, chasing the gears and grabbing them with her telepathy.
"Okay. Attempt number eight on my bike-powered orchestra." Mila wrote in her journal. "Noting need for stronger restraints, and maybe smaller instruments."
Anakin used the Force to rescue one gear Mila missed. That caught her attention.
"Lose something?" smiled Anakin.
"Anakin, Gabby." Mila smiled back. "What are you doing here? It's so great to see you guys again."
"We were telling these kids about how we defeated Admiral Trench just after we met you." Gabby said. She looked at all the gears. "What are those for?"
"These? They're for a new invention I'm working on for my cousin Dolores. She and Mariano are getting married later this year, and I'm working on an invention now, so it'll be ready for then."
"What is it?"
"It's supposed to be a mechanical orchestra." Mila said. "And yes, Rosella can play music, but not all night. She'll want to join in the reception too. So, I'm building a little orchestra. The tricky part is angling the parts so that they won't play too loudly or too quietly."
"And how's it been working so far?" Anakin asked.
"Well, this isn't the worst setback I faced. Attempt one, a screw came loose and the whole thing fell apart. Then on attempt five, Camilo got his head stuck in a tuba."
"How did he do that?" Anakin tried not to laugh.
"That will remain a mystery."
"Is he okay?" Gabby asked.
"Si. He got a headache though from having to be literally blown out. But he's fine."
"How's the family been since coming home?" Anakin asked.
"We've been just fine." Mila said. "I've been working on a security system for Casita though. We wouldn't want a repeat of Grievous."
"I wouldn't worry about him. Obi-Wan is taking care of Grievous personally."
"He should be glad he doesn't have to deal with my mother though." Mila chuckled. "She doesn't need a magical gift to be terrifying."
"Like my sister-in-law Caroline."
"Hey, Mila. I found the tambourine!" Luisa called.
"Coming. Wanna see my new workshop?"
"Can I go, Daddy?" Gabby asked.
"Is it safe?" Anakin asked Mila. The kids wanted to hear more stories, so Anakin was concerned about letting his daughter go in an unfamiliar territory.
"Don't worry, Anakin. I'll keep an eye on her and make sure she has the right safety gear."
"Well, as long as she's being supervised."
"Don't worry. Luisa and Tio Felix are helping me with my invention. There will be at least one adult to make sure she's protected while we're working."
"Okay. Have fun, Princess." Anakin said as his daughter left.
"I will, Daddy." Gabby waved, following Mila as Chika came in and licked her. "Hi, Chika."
"Tell us another story!" said a kid with a cup of coffee, which Anakin grabbed.
"Seriously, who's giving you coffee?" Anakin said.
Gabby plucked the strings on a harp Mila had set up for the little orchestra she was building. Of course, she was true to her word and put Gabby in some safety goggles and one of her old lab coats.
"Who taught you how to play the harp, nina?" Felix asked.
"A musicorn named Harmony taught me." Gabby said, still playing. "A musicorn is a unicorn that has magic over music. Harmony specializes in classical music. You should've seen her conducting the orchestra at my parents' wedding ceremony."
"Your parents had you out of wedlock?"
"Yes, but that's a different story." Gabby said. "I'm too young to know 'everything' everything. All I know is my parents went to a ball, someone spiked the punch, and everyone was affected, then Mommy and Daddy woke up very close together. Next thing they know, Mommy was pregnant. But, they were in love anyway, so it worked out fine that they got married, and now we're one happy family. I know, it's all pretty crazy, but a lot of things about my world are."
"Si, Tio Felix." Mila said, taking a wrench. "You gotta remember, they're from another world. Things that are normal to us might seem strange to them and vice-versa."
"Yeah. They have talking horses in their world." Luisa said. "And transportation that flies."
"Sure, advanced tech is okay." Gabby said. "But my family lives on a more peaceful place now. Naboo has more nature than Coruscant, the big city planet I lived on before."
"It's true." Mila said. "Though, I'm especially interested in another kind of tech."
"Your boyfriend Tech?" Gabby said.
"Yes. How is he? Does he remember me?"
"I haven't heard much from him lately," said Gabby. "But I know he's been thinking about you a lot. Echo and Mini-R2 said that Tech has spent more time quoting romantic stories and poetry than 'useless information' since your first date. Someone's a smitten kitten, according to Peppermint. Peppermint is another unicorn we know."
Mila couldn't help sighing as she thought of Tech.
"We still haven't gotten to meet him." Luisa said.
"We only had one date," said Mila. "But Papa still freaks when he has visions now. Even more than usual. Dolores says he keeps having visions of my first kiss. And that clown Camilo still hasn't stopped shifting and making kissy sounds at me."
That was when 'Dolores' came in.
"Stop pretending to be Dolores so you can tease us, Camilo." Mila said.
And Dolores shifted into Camilo.
"How do you do that?" Camilo asked.
"I'm only four months younger than you." said Mila. "And I aced science class easiest for a reason."
"Your high IQ?"
"Observance. And if you shift into Tech one more time, so help me..." she noted the six-year-old in the room. "I will finish that threat when I'm not in the presence of children."
"And just when we thought it was the end, Sapphire and Carousella swooped in and caught us, carrying us to safety." Anakin said, the children cheering. He'd just told them the story about how he and Padme's relationship was the thing that needed saving.
"What happened next?" a little boy asked.
"And then, we got home safely. My wife and I made up, and I vowed to her that I would never doubt her again, and we both vowed to never let anyone or anything come between us again. Trust is an important thing in any kind of relationship. And that's between you and your friends, your family, even your future spouses and children someday."
"Are you living happily ever after?" asked a little girl.
Anakin smiled and said, "Every day isn't always perfect. We do have our ups and downs, but the most important thing is that we still love each other, and we have a wonderful family together. In fact, we're expecting a new baby soon."
"Is it a boy or a girl?"
"We don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be another girl. Padme, however, thinks it's gonna be a boy. But either way, as long as the baby's healthy, that's all that matters."
"What's the baby's name gonna be?"
"We're still narrowing it down."
Anakin started thinking again about how he was worried about Padme and his dreams, but he shook himself out of it.
You came here to get away from that, Anakin. Just relax.
Anakin breathed a deep breath and decided to go find his daughter.
He found her playing fetch with Chika and her squeaky arepa.
"Come on, Chika. Get it!" Gabby threw the toy, and Chika ran after it.
"Having fun?" Anakin chuckled.
"Yeah. Mila's invention is going great too." Gabby said, taking the toy as Chika brought it back. Well, trying to, as Chika started a game of Tug-of-War with her.
Anakin laughed seeing his daughter having so much fun. He wondered if he should talk to Padme about getting a dog for their family. With the amount of energy their kids had, a dog would be no problem to play with while the grownups were busy. And the horses... they were more like friends than pets to the family. Unless it was a parrot or myna bird, pets didn't tend to talk to their owners.
Chika kept tugging at the arepa toy and so did Gabby.
"Let... go!" Gabby grunted.
"Let me have a go." Anakin said, grabbing the toy. But Chika wouldn't let up with him either. "Come on, girl. Let go."
Chika kept pulling, and so did Anakin. The man got a bit frustrated as Chika kept pulling.
"Urgh! What kind of dog food is Mila feeding you?!" Anakin grunted.
Now Gabby was laughing as her father was losing Tug-of-War to a dog. At least now he had his mind on something else.
"Anakin," said Bruno.
"Whoa!"
Anakin fell back as the arepa slipped from his fingers. And he landed in a bush.
"Are you okay?" Bruno asked.
"I'm fine. And hello, Bruno."
"I didn't need to have a vision to know that will usually happen if you try to win against Chika."
"Now you tell me." Anakin said as Bruno helped him up.
"Come on, Chika. Let go." Mila said, grabbing the toy. This time, Chika let go. Anakin's jaw dropped as Mila did that so easily.
"How did she do that?" Anakin asked with shock.
"Chika listens to me." Mila said, scratching her dog's ears.
Bruno then took his turn to speak and told Anakin that the family was wondering if he and Gabby would like to join them for dinner that night, since they were visiting and all. And, everyone back in their own world was pretty busy, so... the Skywalkers accepted.
Dining definitely looked different than back home to Anakin and Gabby. As they sat at the table with the Madrigals, they were both curious about some of the food that was served.
Tonight, the Madrigals' main course was ajiaco soup, the soup served at Isabela's disaster proposal dinner.
"What's this?" Anakin asked curiously.
Gabby sniffed it.
"It's ajiaco." Julieta answered.
"What's in it?" Gabby asked.
"It's made with papas, pollo, and maiz. That's potatoes, chicken, and corn."
"You can add rice to it." Mirabel said. "Or avocado or cream. If you like that stuff."
So, the Skywalkers took a little taste of the soup. It was scrumptious.
"It's delicious." Anakin said.
"I'm glad you like it. Eat as much as you like." Julieta smiled.
"How come they get to eat more and I have to slow down?" Camilo said.
"Because they're guests, Camilo." Dolores said.
"And they've never tried most of what we eat before." Mila added. "They showed us their world. Now it's our turn to show them ours."
