Research
Back at Naboo, Gabby began doing some research on how to create a portal to another world. There were so many different multi-world travel options. Traveling to alternate realities, building permanent gateways, seeing alternate realities in dreams, even ones to switch places with someone from an alternate world.
Gabby wanted to help her friends get home more than anything. She knew she'd be devastated if she were in a whole other world. Just being away from her parents for two weeks in her own world was scary enough, and that time she sacrificed herself to save her father from Dooku was even scarier despite her plan to get out succeeding. But to be in an alternate reality where she knew nothing of anything or knew anyone... she couldn't imagine what it was like for the Madrigals, especially Rosella when she was taken by Grievous.
The war was hard enough for the kids who were born and grew up in this dimension. Judging by the Madrigals' story, their world was a lot more peaceful. Their entire kingdom was a safe haven made just for them and their people. Now, they were thrust into a whole world filled with war where things were so desperate, actual children were brought into battle.
"Carousella? Do you ever wonder what our world would be like if this war didn't happen?" Gabby asked her musicorn.
"Well, a lot of things would be different." Carousella said. "If the battle of Geonosis hadn't happened, Boba would never be your brother and he'd be stuck on Kamino."
"True. Or what if Grandma and Grandpa got to raise Daddy and Uncle Carmine together?"
"I don't know the exact outcome of that, but I imagine they might've been very happy. There are a lot of theories of there being infinite versions of different worlds. For all we know, there's also a world where the Separatists are the good guys, and the Jedi are the bad guys."
"Or where the Jedi are superheroes."
Gabby got out some crayons and paper and drew some pictures of the Jedi as superheroes.
"That would be so cool." Gabby said, then she had an idea that made her laugh. "Or what about a world with opposite gender versions of us. Could you imagine my daddy or Uncle Obi-Wan as girls?"
Carousella started laughing at the thought of that.
Gabby shook herself back into focusing.
"Okay, enough joking around. Gotta find the right spell or potion or something."
Gabby got right back to work and kept looking into her spell book and found something she hadn't seen before. She looked at it curiously. Judging by the pictures, it looked like a spell to make a two-way gateway to a specific location. Except... she couldn't read the writing. It was written in another language.
"Carousella, can you read this?" Gabby asked.
Carousella looked at the book. She could speak and read 24 languages, but this one was not one.
"But... it looks kind of like Mandalorian writing." Carousella said. "Do we know anyone who can read that?"
"Hmm... it's a long shot and maybe a quick assumption, but maybe Boba can read it." Gabby said. "He did say one of the lessons he did a lot when he was little was learning other languages."
"Ow!" Boba cried out as he fell onto his back again.
Boba was with Alicia and Isabela, who were helping him with some dance moves he was learning. Whether or not he decided to try for cheer or the dance team at his new school, there were a couple movements he still had yet to master: backflips and splits.
"Okay, that was better," said Alicia, helping Boba up.
"You gotta be more relaxed when you fall back." Isabela said, demonstrating a backflip very gracefully. "Like that."
Boba tried it again, this time taking a deep breath.
"Boba!" a voice exclaimed.
"Whoa!"
Boba fell onto his stomach as the shout distracted him and threw him off balance.
"Are you okay?" said Isabela, helping the boy up.
"I'm fine." Boba brushed himself off.
"Sorry, Big Brother." Gabby said. "Didn't mean to make you fall."
"Don't worry. Probably would've messed it up on my own anyway."
"Boba Skywalker, don't talk like that." Alicia said. "I've taught many students over the years, and the most strictly enforced rule in my class is not to doubt oneself."
"You should see our Uncle Carmine's dance classes." Gabby said. "He's so much fun."
"Maybe you could give each other pointers." Carousella suggested.
"Maybe. But dance classes set aside...Boba, we think you may the key to getting the Madrigals home."
"Me?" Boba said, surprised. "How?"
Gabby opened the book to the page with the spell.
"Do you know this language?"
Boba took a look into the book.
"Hmm. My Mandalorian is a little rusty... but yes. I can definitely read this."
Boba excused himself from the dance lesson and got to work with his sister. He read and translated the text into Basic and Gabby wrote everything down.
Later, a holo-transmission was taken, and Anakin was called to it. So was Carmine.
The entire Jedi Council spoke with news about the Sith Lord.
"We've managed to get a few things from Dooku." Carmine said. "So far, we know that the Sith Lord is a human male in the Senate, which narrows it down to twenty-seven people."
"But we also assume they're obviously older than Lux Bonteri and Bail Organa, so that should scratch them off the list. But for all we know, this Sith Lord is a master of disguise and found some way to make himself look younger."
"We're gonna take a blood sample from each one and see if any of them have a large number of midichlorians in them."
"What if they don't want to give you one?" Anakin pointed out.
"We'll get it if we have to use a tranquilizer dart to get them to hold still for it." Peppermint said.
"Any luck on the portal to get the Madrigals home?" asked Carmine.
"Well, there's good news and bad news." Gabby said.
"Good news is, we have the list of supplies down and can attain everything." Boba said.
"And the bad news?" asked Mirabel.
"It takes thirty days to make it work and we have to make a mirror that looks exactly like the one you came through the first time, and hopefully it's not broken already."
Mirabel groaned. She figured she might as well break the news to the others.
"But wait," said Alicia. "Julieta and the others might be making another portal right now. How do we keep them from coming here and ending up God-knows-where?"
Gabby looked into her book again.
"Don't worry. There's a spell here that can be used to send messages directly to people in alternate worlds. Assuming they haven't made it here already, we should get to work right now."
"Don't worry. My sister is an expert on magic and learning things quickly." Boba said. "If anyone can get it done, she can."
"I don't know about that." Gabby said. "But if Mila helps with the chemistry parts of the process, we can get it done together."
"And I'll see if I can speed up the process."
"I'm not sure that's the best idea." Gabby said. "Magic is very tricky business. One wrong move, and it bungles the whole thing worse than letting Uncle Jar Jar try a juggling act with flaming objects."
"Or anything sharp." Boba said. "He's pretty clumsy, but he means well."
"Sounds like my dad." Mirabel said. "Except he mostly just gets stung by bees."
