On the Wings of Keeradaks

After rescuing Echo, the Bad Batch have now found themselves surrounded by Techno Union forces.

The twins Anakin and Carmine, Wrecker, Hunter, and Crosshair, as well as Sapphire continued to fight the battle droids while the girls helped Rex and Tech.

"Hunter, hold them off." said Anakin. "I'll check on Rex and Echo."

Anakin ran into the computer room where Echo was being tended to by the others.

"Situation's almost under control out there." Anakin said. "How's it going in here?"

"I'm still trying to decrypt Echo's cerebral interface." said Tech.

"He still has a pulse running through him." Mila said. "Faint, but overall, he's alive."

"But until I can decrypt him, we cannot disconnect him from this computer system."

"How is he, Rex?" Anakin asked.

"Even with Gabby's kiss, he's too weak to walk." Rex said. "Very disoriented. Doesn't even remember how he got here. He remembers being at the Citadel, but that's about it."

Lamenta, meanwhile, was casting a spell to send soothing brainwaves into Echo's mind

"Lamenta's keeping him calm, though. We'll probably need Crescent to carry him out of here." Gabby said. "And we need to get him to a safe place so I can fully heal him."

"Any word on the extraction squad?" Anakin asked.

"We called in, but no word back." said Rex.

"Ahsoka and the others are still okay, though." said Lamenta.

Suddenly, a dead battle droid was thrown into the room by Wrecker.

"Well, no surprise about the extraction squad." said Anakin. "We knew when we got into this we'd be on our own."

"It's gonna get more difficult to get out of here." said Hunter. "There are several squads of droids closing in."

The rest of the Batchers came in and sealed the door shut. But according to Crosshair, enemies were approaching.

"How long can you hold them off?"

"How long do you need?" asked Crosshair.

"Tech, how much longer?"

"Not yet. I need more time." Tech said.

Gabby contacted Ahsoka on her comm.

"Ahsoka, any droids on your end?" Gabby asked.

Ahsoka and Fiesta were both fighting more droids that came their way, both doing their best to protect the Madrigals.

"A few." said the Togruta, slicing a few droids, while Fiesta blasted them with magic.

"What do we do?" Mirabel panicked, holding Pedro in her arms.

"When I give the word, scatter!" Fiesta said.

And on the count of three, they scattered, running as fast as they could while Fiesta and Ahsoka took out even more droids.

Meanwhile, Wat Tambor and his droids had the Bad Batch and the Jedi completely surrounded. And to make matters worse, something called the Decimator was sent in after the team.

Luckily, Tech managed to decrypt Echo and confirmed it was safe to unplug him. And Rex carefully unplugged the wires from Echo's body.

"Rex?" said Echo, coughing.

"What is it?" said Rex.

"I got a big headache." Echo chuckled.

"Better to feel something than nothing, old buddy."

"You'll feel a lot better once I work my magic." Gabby said, cracking her knuckles.

"It's a touching reunion, guys," said Anakin. "but we need to get out of here now."

"How do we do that?" Carmine asked. "We can't go back the way we came in."

"There's an exhaust vent that leads to the cooling systems right there." said Echo, pointing to a vent in the ceiling.

"Not to worry," said Carmine. "I got this."

Carmine made his wings appear, then flew up and used his lightsaber to cut the vent open.

"Can you all sprout wings?" Mila asked.

"Just me, my daddy, Gabby, and our grandpa." Lamenta said. "Uncle Anakin doesn't have any yet."

"Now let's get the rest of you up here." Carmine said, picking up his daughter. "Ladies first."

Carmine made sure his daughter safely and firmly held herself on the sides before Carousella helped Gabby up next. Then Mila.

Wrecker threw the others up to the vent. Except for the horses. Since they were too big to fit into the vent, they volunteered to stay as a distraction and to get Ahsoka and the other Madrigals out. Tech carried Echo on his back, and Wrecker and Anakin were the only ones left.

Wrecker was about to pick up Anakin, but he held up a hand and said, "It's okay, Wrecker. I've got this."

And Anakin jumped up with help from the Force, but then saw Wrecker running towards the computer.

"What are you doing?" asked the Jedi.

"I'm putting an end to Tambor's little science experiment." said Wrecker, who then began throwing bombs onto the computer.

"Are you done? Time's up." said Anakin.

And as the decimator came in, Anakin quickly pulled Wrecker up with the Force and got them out of there just before the decimator found them and the lab exploded.

Meanwhile, the group entered the ventilation system.

"Huh. This ventilation corridor acts as a cooling system for all the computers in the facility." said Tech.

"Brr!" shivered Mila, her lab coat not being the best insulator in this scene. "And a system that makes me wish I had a thicker coat. Hace mucho frio aqui."

"Huh?" everyone said.

Mila sighed. "I said it's very cold here." and she continued with the others.

"Agreed." Gabby said, waving her hand and changing everyone into warm jackets.

"That's better." Carmine sighed with relief.

"Mucho mejor. Much better." Mila sighed with relief. "Gracias, princesa."

"So, how did you know it was up here, Echo?" asked Anakin.

"Well, they got access to my memory," said Echo. "and I got access to the Techno Union database. All their plans, inventory, building schematics-everything."

"You mean you can find us a safe way out of here?" said Rex.

"Well, there is a way, but you're not gonna like it." Echo said with a cough.

The others were not sure how to respond to that.

The rescue team soon came to a door that led to a pipe that went across to another part of the building.

"I don't know about this." said Rex.

"I'm telling you, there's a landing pad on that other building." Echo said.

"So you think there's a ship we can steal?" said Lamenta.

"Well, I hope there's a ship we can steal."

Gabby contacted Ahsoka and asked her if she could get to that other building.

"Ahsoka says she and the others will meet us there." Gabby confirmed.

Mila looked outside.

"Judging by the altitude of this wind, I'm not sure it would be safe."

Mila tapped her foot on the pipe twice to check it.

"But... if we walk very carefully, and two of us hold onto the little ones, this pipe should hold our combined weight, and we'll have less a chance of falling."

"Let's just hope this trip wasn't for nothing."

So, Anakin and Carmine each had their daughters piggyback on them while they carefully walked across the pipe.

"Oh, boy. I can't even look." said Wrecker.

"That's fine, but if you fall, don't take me with you." said Tech.

"Uh-oh. I looked. I think I'm gonna be sick. Not gonna panic."

"Hang on, Wrecker." said Hunter. "We're almost there."

"Just breathe, Wrecker." Mila said. "Only think 'Light as air, soft as a petal. Fill with serenity, no despair."

"What's that mean?"

"It's a soothing mantra. A kind of poem said in yoga, which is exercise for calming and strengthening the body and the mind."

However, droids suddenly came from the other building.

"Turn around! Go back!" Anakin exclaimed.

But when the group turned around, there were more droids coming from where they came.

"I think it's magic time!" Gabby said.

Anakin began quickly deflecting the droids' blaster fire with his lightsaber, as well as growing some strong briars that grabbed the droids and threw them away, while Gabby lightning struck them. On the other side. Tech and the other Batchers blasted them, while Carmine deflected blaster shots with his lightsaber.

Crosshair, however, would have fallen, had Mila not grabbed him with her telepathy.

But even with magic, more and more droids kept coming.

"Anyone got any brilliant ideas?" asked Anakin.

"I've got a brilliant idea!" Tech and Carmine exclaimed.

"When the locals attacked us, I recorded the creatures' distress call." said Tech.

"I have a distress call of my own." said Carmine.

"Tech records everything. It's a hobby." said Hunter.

"I hope he doesn't mean that in a creepy way." Mila said.

"Try both calls." Anakin said.

"Mine allows us to call those flying creatures to us." said Tech.

"Mine calls our friends." said Carmine.

Everyone covered their ears as Tech played the high-pitched distress call, while Carmine loudly vocalized the Call of the North Wind.

"There's our ride out of here!" said Tech as some flying creatures came to them.

"Well, how do we get on them?" asked Anakin.

"How else? We jump!" Tech said.

The horses also flew in. Carousella was carrying Mirabel, Camilo, and Pedro, Crescent carried Bruno, and Fiesta carried Ahsoka.

"You called for a ride?" Sapphire called.

"I'll go first. Carmine, help the others" said Anakin, jumping onto his pegasus with his daughter.

One-by one, Carmine helped everyone else jump onto a creature. Rex jumped onto Fiesta with Ahsoka. Wrecker was thrown onto Crescent with Bruno, who Wrecker held onto tightly. The others, they jumped onto the reptiles. Mila was last to jump, and nearly slipped until Tech grabbed her hand and pulled her up, accidentally looking into her hazel green eyes.

"Wow. You have pretty eyes." Tech said. "Did I just say that out loud."

"Si. You did." Mila giggled. However, the flirtatious moment was interrupted when they spotted more droids flying after them.

"That wasn't part of the plan!" Tech said. "Those things can fly!"

"I don't know whether I'm more impressed or terrified by the features of these things!" Mila said.

"We have to shake those droids!" said Anakin.

"I got this one!" said Carmine, who flew in with his wings and vocalized a very high note that shattered the droid's circuitry and gave the others time to get away.

The group soon landed back at the Poletecs' tribal land, where one of them said something to the lot of them.

"Their leader is impressed we tamed the Keeradaks," Tech translated. "but he wants to know why we returned here."

"Tell him we had no choice. Tell him... that we wore out our welcome in Purkoll."

Tech translated everything Anakin said to the Poletecs.

Suddenly, a couple droids that Carmine had missed flew in and fired blaster bolts, and the Batchers shot back at them.

"If I know Tambor, he'll come after us." said Anakin. "Us and the Poletecs, with everything he's got."

The Poletec said something else.

"What's he saying, Tech." asked Anakin.

"He says that we have broken our word. we have brought the war to his village." said Tech.

"You're right." said Rex, removing his helmet. "Tell him he's right, Tech. Tell him we didn't plan to drag his people into war. But look what the Separatists did to one of our people!"

Rex pointed to Echo to make his point. The Poletecs looked horrified when they saw Echo's condition now.

"They took away his freedom. His humanity." Rex continued. "They tried to turn him into a machine."

Tech translated everything Rex said.

"The Techno Union claims it's neutral, but they have chosen sides. Now your people have to choose."

Tech translated that too.

"Couldn't have said it better, Rexster." said Ahsoka, kissing Rex's cheek.

"Ugh! Let's hope it works," said Crosshair. "because I see forces coming- more than we can handle alone."

As Tambor sent in more forces, the Jedi and the Bad Batch formed an alliance with the Poletecs to help them. Even the Madrigals came to help anywhere they could.

Carmine got the youngest children to safety.

Just as Anakin said, Tambor threw everything he had at them. Many of the Poletecs were either killed or severely injured, but the Bad Batch took down the droids with ease, and the Jedi and horses fought with whatever magic or athletic ability they had. But, none of them expected the large tripods that came about. It was starting to look like War of the Worlds out there.

Luckily, Tech had some explosives on hand to take out more droids.

Anakin stood on a rock high above with Echo and Hunter, deflecting many shots with his lightsaber and shooting out plants and magic spells.

"Rex, we've gotta take out these walkers." said Anakin into his comm. "I'll take one. You take the other."

"Don't worry, General. The boys and I can handle it." said Rex.

With help from Hunter and Wrecker, Rex took on one of the walkers.

Meanwhile, Anakin took a few steps back and got ready to jump.

"Still showing off, huh, General?" said Echo.

"You know me, Echo." Anakin smirked.

Anakin jumped with his lightsaber ignited and took on the other walker, slicing it bit by bit, swinging across on it, and Anakin flipped back and flew for a bit with the Force and Force-pushed the walker down as it was one leg short. And as a result, with some added damage by the Bad Batch, the other was knocked down as well. Seeing that they were not outnumbered, the remaining droids flew away.

Everyone cheered as the day was won.

"It's hard to compete with a Jedi." Hunter confessed.

The kids came out once it was safe, and were glad to see their parents were all okay.

However, a green plethora of sparkles suddenly appeared on Anakin, and then he was lifted into the air and started spinning.

"Hey! What's happening?" Wrecker shouted, freaked out by what was going on.

Anakin was as confused and surprised as everyone else. And he started to feel an odd sensation as more and more sparkles surrounded him and then unleashed a white glow before releasing him back to the ground.

"Daddy...?" Gabby said.

Anakin slowly stood up, and out from his back spread big, beautiful butterfly wings of green and blue. Everyone else was astonished.

Anakin looked over his shoulder and saw he had wings.

"Daddy's got wings!" Gabby said happily, making her own wings appear.

"Looks like you finally earned them, Big Bro." Carmine said, patting his brother on the shoulder.

Anakin tried flying, but fell flat on his face.

Carmine chuckled and helped his brother up.

"We'll get you some lessons when we get back." He said.

"Starting with how to make them disappear." Gabby added.

After everyone settled down, the Bad Batch and the Jedi prepared to leave. Seeing as the ship the Madrigals came in was beyond repair, and they didn't know where they were headed, they joined as well. They were only disappointed they didn't find Rosella. But before they left...

"Thank you for helping us in our fight." said Anakin to the chief. Tech translated.

The Poletec chief, according to Tech, said, "The Jedi will always have an ally here on Skako Minor."

And with that, the Poletecs left.

"Rex. Thanks for coming after me." said Echo.

"That's what brothers do." Rex said. "I'm just sorry it took so long. Hopefully, it's gonna be just like old times."

Once everyone was on board, it was a bit of a tight squeeze with five people and a dog unexpectedly at it, but Lamenta and Gabby managed to find enough space for Echo to lay down.

Lamenta created some soothing brainwaves and a pretty song that lulled Echo to sleep, and Gabby got to work with her healing spell. Her hair glowed golden as she concentrated her magic on Echo's body. But, just in case, Gabby placed a blanket over his body and then officially commenced the spell.

Power, gleam and glow
Let your magic shine
Make the clock reverse
Bring back what once was mine
Heal what has been hurt

Slowly, Echo's body began to change underneath the blanket.

Change the fates' design
Save what has been lost
Bring back what once was mine
What once was mine

By the time Gabby stopped singing, Echo looked like his old self again. Well... mostly. She got rid of the machinery, healed Echo's internal systems, and he could breathe normally again. But, she couldn't make his hair grow back, or turn his skin back to the color it was before. Those things would have to rely on nature running its course.

"Echo?" Gabby said quietly, gently waking Echo up.

Echo's eyes gently fluttered open.

"Huh? Wha- what happened?" Echo muttered.

"Echo, do you remember anything?" Gabby asked.

"I remember... being hooked to something. And flying reptiles."

"He's okay." Gabby confirmed.

"Welcome back, Brother." Rex smiled.
