Morning Routines & Makeovers
Omega slept more peacefully than she ever could have recalled. For the very first time, she woke up to warm sunlight on her face.
Omega yawned and opened her eyes as she stretched herself awake. She looked around and saw she was in a much different environment than she was used to. Outside the window, there were trees, flowers, and smaller bodies of water that shined with the sunlight.
"Whoa." Omega gasped at how beautiful the planet was.
"You're awake." said a familiar voice.
Omega looked to see Padme in the doorway.
"Like what you see outside?" Padme smiled.
"It's amazing. There's nothing like this on Kamino."
Padme sat on the bed to talk to Omega.
"Naboo is a beautiful planet. I was born and grew up here."
"Is it true you were queen?"
"Yes, it is. And one day, Gabby will be queen too." Padme said. "Now, I know you're probably a little scared being in this new place with a lot of strange people, but you don't have to worry. The people here are very nice. And believe it or not, Boba felt pretty scared when he first moved in with Anakin and I."
"Boba told me about that. He said people with cameras were all over him too."
Padme chuckle and said, "That tends to happen when you're part of a famous family. I was a well-known senator and Anakin was the famous Hero with No Fear. In other words, when we got married, it was all over the news. We're pretty much used to it now."
"So... what do I call you?" Omega asked.
It didn't surprise Padme that much; she remembered how Boba felt unsure how to address her and Anakin when he first came home.
"Well, you can call us Anakin and Padme if it makes you more comfortable. But, since we're adopting you, you can call us Mom and Dad."
But Omega wasn't the only addition to the house.
With not even half the Jedi Order living in the palace as well, things were a little more crowded right now. Even the Bad Batch was sticking around for a bit to keep an eye on the twins until they knew they were settled in okay. Lady Morpha might've been gone, but they had to make sure the two were alright, and do some repairs on their ship, it having sustained a bit of damage in the battle and on the way, as Mila had ridden with them, and her portal home was on Naboo.
Most people were already awake this morning, but some were still waking up. There were lines outside some of the bathrooms now, and everyone seemed to have a little difficulty getting along today.
"Haven't you finished brushing your fur yet, Gungi?" Petro asked impatiently outside the bathroom. Gungi growled as if to tell Petro to hold his horses.
Fiesta passed through a few people going through their morning routines, looking for something.
"Has anyone seen my tail brush?" Fiesta called out.
"Who's been using my new facial masks?" Aayla scolded.
"Anyone seen my Lula?" Wrecker shouted out.
"Watch out! Princess coming through!" Gabby called, getting through the halls, still in her pajamas.
Gabby went to the stairs, and thanks to a spell she cast on it, it turned into a slide when she jumped down it.
Padme took Omega's hand and brought her out of the room. She hadn't seen one place so crowded with people in pajamas since her bachelorette party.
"Peppermint! Are you wearing my new sparkly bow?" Carousella scolded, spotting Peppermint with a new bow.
"Oh, this is yours? Sorry. I was just trying it on."
"Obi-Wan, I can't believe you used my hairbrush to brush Peppermint's coat." Anakin scolded, holding a black hairbrush now filled with pale pink hairs.
"Sorry, Anakin. I'll get you a new one."
Carmine exited his and Caroline's room. "Alright, who came into my room and touched my guitar?"
Omega looked at Padme questioningly. "Is it always like this?"
"Everyone just needs time to get used to the new living situation." Padme said.
"Come on, Zatt! Hurry it up in there!" Boba scolded, impatiently knocking the door.
"Boba, be more patient." Padme looked at Omega. "He's always cranky before he's had breakfast."
Lamenta entered the hall, dressed and looking like she'd had a perfect rest, and having a perfect hair day.
"Okay, how does she never have a rough morning?" Obi-Wan said, still fixing his messy hair and beard.
"I'm the princess of the night. Sleeping is my specialty." Lamenta giggled.
Omega looked curiously at some of the food that was at the breakfast tables. She wasn't used to such lavish presentations of food, and especially not sweet stuff like waffles, chocolate croissants, or muffins.
"Grab whatever looks good, Omega." Anakin said. "Eat as much as you like."
Omega sat beside Boba since he was the most familiar figure at the table. She took a taste of scrambled eggs and found them to be really delicious. Back on Kamino, most of her breakfasts consisted of oatmeal or eggs.
Other than eggs, she wasn't sure what to eat. But, Boba picked out a cinnamon roll.
"I recommend one of these. They're my favorite." Boba said. "Be warned though. Once you start, you won't wanna stop."
Omega took a whiff of the treat and tasted it, and just like Boba said, she didn't wanna stop. And before she knew it, she was tasting every edible thing in sight. She found strawberries to be her favorite.
A servant poured some orange juice into a cup for Omega.
"This is how you eat every day?" Omega said, taking a sip of juice.
"Yup. I still can't believe it." Boba said.
"You're gonna love it here, Omega." Anakin said. "It's an adjustment for all of us, having a lot more people than we previously had living here, but we'll all learn to adapt."
"It's gonna be lots of fun too!" Gabby said, excitedly, all jittery, as she'd been drinking a latte.
"Alright, who let Gabby have coffee again?" Anakin called out.
Boba looked at Omega. "You should've seen when I tried sugar for the first time. I was all over the place like Gabby when she's just at her normal energy."
After breakfast, Omega realized she was still in the same clothes she'd been wearing since yesterday. She hadn't had time to pack any extra outfits. She'd removed her old headdress and let her hair down, but that was the only change she'd made.
Omega sat in a dressing room with some of the other girls now as Gabby brushed Omega's hair.
"You have beautiful hair, Omega." Gabby said.
"Thanks." Omega said. "So do you."
Ganodi took a look at some dresses that were on the rack. Since Roya started officially marketing her fashion designs, she'd sent over a lot of samples to some of her royal friends before they went on the market to draw up buzz for them.
"Look at all these outfits." Ganodi said, liking some of the blue and green dresses.
"Boba's girlfriend designed all the dresses on that rack." Lamenta said, braiding Peppermint's mane. "She's really amazing at it."
"Try something on, Ganodi." Gabby said. "At least one of them is bound to make you feel like a princess like us."
So, Ganodi did look through. So did Katooni. Carousella also looked through some of the outfits custom-designed to fit horses. She really liked the pink dress she found.
"Wow." Omega said. "I've never seen so many dresses. I've never even tried one on."
"Hey, Omega. You wanna be a princess too?" Lamenta said.
"What do I have to do?"
"Well, just be you, for starters. Being a princess is about being a role model, someone people can look up to."
"And, getting to dress in amazing clothes is a bonus." Gabby said, getting out a measuring tape and beginning to measure her soon-to-be adoptive sister. "We're gonna give you the best princess makeover ever."
So, the girls got to work first getting out the critical supplies.
Mani-pedi supplies, a hairbrush, an ear-piercing tool, and a selection of jewelry, dresses, and shoes.
"First things first." Gabby said, helping Omega balance a book on her head. "A princess needs to stand up straight."
While Gabby helped Omega learn to walk and gesture like a proper princess, Lamenta and Carousella got to selecting various styles and colors of dresses that would complement Omega's figure, complexion, and hair color.
Meanwhile, Anakin was doing some finishing touches on the nursery, adding an old butterfly mobile to the crib, the very mobile that used to hang over Gabby's crib when she was a baby.
"Hey, Anakin." Carmine said, entering the room with a box wrapped in a pink ribbon. "You got a package from the Madrigal family today. A gift for the baby."
"That was nice of them." Anakin said. "Padme will want to open this together."
"It's crazy, huh? You were only expecting to have a third kid, now they'll be your fourth instead." Carmine said.
"I know. I still remember the first time I adopted a kid." Anakin said. He grew curious about something. "Have... you and Caroline thought about having more kids?"
"We've thought about it. But between tours, private gigs, rehearsals, and planning things... we haven't really gotten the chance." Carmine confessed. "But I think Lamenta would love to have a baby brother or sister of her own. Sometimes, when we were on tour, she used to play tea party all the time with Lammy. Always treated that toy like her baby."
"Gabby's the same with her teddy bear." Anakin said. "First time she asked if she could have a sibling... I had no idea how to explain to her how that worked. Didn't exactly have Mom or Dad to give me that talk."
Carmine looked down again.
"Grandma Miranda was the only motherly figure I ever knew. Well, then there was Miss Susy, my foster mother." Carmine said. "She took good care of me in my teen years. So, I wasn't totally alone. But... I still can't help wondering about my birth mother."
Anakin brought his brother to a nice spot in the den where they could sit and talk.
"Mom was... where to begin?" Anakin said, getting out the picture of Shmi. "She was an unbelievable woman. Most would think that with her years as a slave, she'd be broken and unable to handle herself. But, she proved them wrong. Even though we were slaves, that didn't stop her from being a great mother."
Anakin told Carmine about how Shmi always encouraged him to use his gifts to do good, and told him he was capable of greater things than even he realized. Even though it didn't look like they would be freed anytime soon, Shmi never told him to give up his dream that he would be able to free those in slavery.
"Watto was pretty bossy and demanding, but he was definitely a better master than the Hutts were." Anakin said. "And he saw good use for my talents in mechanics. So, I felt pretty okay. Mom and I had better living conditions, enough to eat, and I got to race pods sometimes. It wasn't perfect, but as long as I came home to Mom, I felt just fine. She would tell me stories about Jedi she said she'd heard travelers saying or stories she'd made up sometimes, and always sang me her lullaby every night. No matter where we were, her love kept me strong. Mom was living proof that not all grownups were bad, and that there were good people in the galaxy."
Carmine couldn't help wondering what might have been. Hearing all these things about his mother... he began to feel a little closer to her. He still only wished he could've known her longer than when he was a baby. Even long enough to have just one memory of her.
"Mom sounds like an incredible woman." Carmine said, leaning back, only for something to squeak.
Carmine looked behind a pillow to see a black and red tooka doll.
"What's this doing here?" Carmine wondered out loud, picking up the toy.
"Oh, there it is." Hunter said. "Wrecker's been looking for that."
Just then, Gabby and Lamenta came by.
"Hey, Daddy, Uncle Carmine." Gabby said. "We did makeovers."
Gabby and Lamenta were both dressed in pretty dresses and wore their tiaras as they stood in the doorway together.
"I can see that." Anakin chuckled. "You both look amazing."
"Well, we're not the main attraction this time around." Gabby said.
"Ladies and gentlemen," said Lamenta. "May we present..."
"Princess Omega." the two said together and stepped out from the doorway.
"Come on, Omega. Don't be shy." Carousella said from outside the door.
Slowly, in came Omega. And she looked very different.
Omega wore a lovely baby blue gown like Cinderella, complemented by a diamond necklace and matching earrings, and beautiful flat shoes like glass slippers. No one could believe that was really Omega.
"Wow..." the twins gasped.
"Omega." Hunter gasped. "You look beautiful."
"You look just like a princess." Carmine smiled.
Omega couldn't help blushing from all the compliments she was receiving. When she'd looked at herself in the mirror a few minutes ago, she hardly recognized herself. But she'd found herself smiling when she looked at how pretty she looked in a new color.
Anakin noticed the time and realized he and Padme had to get ready. They had a lot to do today. A doctor's appointment, last-minute preparations for their anniversary ball in a couple weeks, and they had to go to an adoption agency to officially begin the process. But, they'd also wanted to take Omega shopping so they could decorate her room, get the girl her own wardrobe, and get her some toys, seeing as she'd never really had any of her own.
"Hunter... think you can help Ahsoka look after the kids while we're out?" Anakin asked.
"It shouldn't be a problem, your highness." Hunter said.
