Magic Protection Plan

It was early the next morning in the Encanto when Gabby woke up. She looked beside herself to see her father sleeping peacefully for what seemed like the first time in months. Gabby smiled seeing her father actually resting, and she decided not to wake him and let him sleep in. He could use the extra rest.

Gabby magically put herself in a dress like Isabela's old lavender dress and went to join the Madrigals for breakfast.

"Aww, look how cute you are." Augustine said.

"She looks like a mini-Isabela." Mila chuckled. "When all she grew was roses, anyway."

"Donde esta tu papa? Where's your father?"

"Still sleeping." Gabby said. "He hasn't slept well in a while, so I didn't wanna wake him."

Suddenly, Dolores heard something.

"I think we have another visitor." she said.

"Ouch!" shouted a familiar voice. "Oh, great! Lost my glasses again?"

"Uncle Carmine?" Gabby said, heading back to the Casita.

Gabby went inside to see her uncle had slid down the stair slide and dropped his glasses.

"Uncle Carmine? What are you doing here?" Gabby said, looking around, managing to find Carmine's glasses.

"It's an emergency! Where's your father?" Carmine asked.

"Sleeping."

As soon as he had his glasses back on, Carmine rushed until he found Anakin sleeping in the nursery.

"Anakin! Get up!" Carmine shouted, whacking his twin with a pillow.

Anakin woke up with a grunt.

"I'm awake! I'm awake!" Anakin groaned. He rubbed his eyes and was surprised to see his brother. "Carmine? What are you doing here?"

"We have to get back home now!"

"Now? I haven't even had breakfast yet."

"This is an emergency! A big emergency."

"What kind of emergency?" Gabby said.

"I'll explain when we get back." Carmine promised. "But we may need to ask if we can borrow Camilo."

Obi-Wan paced worriedly as Peppermint and Armorous were being checked out.

"Obi..." said Satine worriedly. She couldn't stand to see her love so upset.

"I can't lose her now." Obi-Wan said, close to crying.

It was probably crazy to believe that Obi-Wan Kenobi would be this worried about a horse like it was his child, but like just about everyone who received a horse through Equinaro's Ride of Love, to him, his horse was more than just a steed. She was family.

When Obi-Wan first met Peppermint, he felt pretty sure their match was not meant to be. But, Peppermint proved to be the sweetest thing he'd been blessed with, no pun intended. After bonding with her, up to now, he couldn't bear the mere thought of losing her.

"Obi-Wan, you must stay strong." Satine said, taking Obi-Wan's hands. She could see a tear falling from his eye as his worry grew. "Peppermint needs you to be strong for her."

Obi-Wan knew his bride was right. When the Jedi changed their rules to allow families and relationships, Obi-Wan was one of many who learned that they needed to feel the way they did to function properly. Queen Reigna compared negative emotions to viruses, but Wysteria and her mom Queen Esmerelda always said that all relationships were like gardens; they required proper care and attention in order to grow and flourish.

Peppermint and Obi-Wan even planted a baby peppermint plant in one of the gardens together on the one-year anniversary of when they became a family. And in the last three years, that plant grew big and beautiful.

"Hello there." said a familiar voice.

Obi-Wan immediately felt a smile appear on his face as he saw Peppermint exit the clinic with Armorous. She was still a little pale, but otherwise okay.

"Peppermint. Thank the Force." Obi-Wan said, hugging his horse and stroking her muzzle.

"Are you crying?" Peppermint sadly smiled, noticing the tears in her rider's eyes.

"No! Just something in my eye." Obi-Wan said, wiping his eyes.

"The effects of the Vacuo scepter, fortunately, are non-fatal." said the vet. "However, they have been weakened by its intense vacuum-like extraction method."

"Is there anything that can be done for them?" Satine asked.

"Based on my knowledge of this scepter and Enchanted biology, I don't know if their magic will restore itself or another spell has to be broken. But, I recommend a continued healthy diet and rest for them. And slow increase of physical activity. On another note, their horseshoes should still work, since they are of a separate magical property, and General Mareheart will still be able to fly."

"That's good news." Armorous said.

"Right now, I only hope Anakin and his family are alright." Obi-Wan said.

The entire Naboo palace was placed on lockdown for the moment. All the doors were locked, the shades pulled down, and extra guards were left at every single entrance. Even the air vents were blocked.

Now, the entire Skywalker-Jinn family was in the basement. And so were their horses.

"Okay, what is going on here?" Boba asked. "First, I get yanked out of my room, then Grandpa has the whole place on lockdown, and now we're all here in the basement?"

"This is a huge emergency, Boba." Anakin said. "And you're a big part of it."

"As you all know," Carmine began. "Anakin and I switched places to spy on the Chancellor."

Carmine and Lamenta explained everything they learned during their encounters with the chancellor, including their most recent one.

"We saw Count Dooku again earlier," said Lamenta. "And we confirmed with him... Chancellor Palpatine is the Sith Lord we've been looking for."

"WHAT?!" Anakin said.

"I knew he was bad news!" Gabby said.

"It's true, Uncle Anakin." Lamenta said. "I looked into your dreams, and found out he's been using the Force to manipulate them. He's trying to make you turn to the dark side and make you his apprentice."

Lamenta took her uncle's hands so he could see what she saw. Not surprisingly, he was horrified by what he saw.

"And now, Lady Morpha wants to use our powers to destroy everyone and then us." Lamenta said.

"And why am I here, exactly?" Camilo asked.

"We're getting to that." Carmine said.

Qui-Gon explained that after they learned of Lady Morpha, the family had been thinking for a while, and they hypothesized that she would go after them once she had the power. Solaran magic was among the top most powerful sources of magic in all of Enchantra. It was almost impossible to defeat a Solaran Enchanted in battle, especially a member of the royal family. Thus, if their powers fell into the wrong hands, it would mean certain doom for many kingdoms.

"I was able to locate the personal journal of King Reginald himself. It contains a number of spells that were used to defeat various enemies in the past, including ones that helped protect their magic." Qui-Gon said.

According to King Reginald's journal, many villains had attempted to use the Vacuo Scepter and similar weapons to drain Solaran magic, but there was a way they could hide their powers... by transferring them to another holder.

Various studies showed that magic in an Enchanted's body was obviously easy to trace with a spell or crystal ball. But, when transferred to an ordina's body... it became near impossible.

The others knew about this spell for a while. The ones with powers, anyway.

"That is where you come in, Boba." Anakin said.

"Me?" Boba said, surprised.

"Yes, you."

"We must transfer all of our magic..." said Qui-Gon. "To you."

"But why me? I'm a member of the family, aren't I? Wouldn't I be the first place Morpha would look?"

"It's too obvious of a choice, which is why she wouldn't." Lamenta said.

"And Big Brother, you've spent more time with all of us than anyone else, and gotten to know all of our powers. We need someone we can trust to guard our magic."

"But how would you protect anyone?" Boba pointed out.

"We'll still have the Force." Anakin said. "That and magic are two different energy sources."

"And, why am I here again?" Camilo asked.

"We need a decoy." Carmine said. "Which means... Boba..."

Padme stopped her brother-in-law. Tears came to her eyes, which frightened Boba.

Padme came closer to her son and caressed his face.

"It means you have to go away for a while." Padme said. "Without any of us."

Boba's eyes widened in horror. "What?! I have to go all alone?"

"Not completely." Anakin said. "We've already arranged for someone to come pick you up and take you somewhere safe tonight."

"Tonight?" Boba looked even more scared.

Boba didn't have time to take it all in. Even if he did have longer than a few hours, he wasn't sure even a year would be enough to take it all in. He hadn't been by himself since before he got adopted. Now, he had to be away from his whole family. He had to be without parents again, and without his sister or his horse.

"We all know this will be hard, son." Anakin said. "It's hard for us too. This'll be the hardest thing we ever do. And it may be the most important thing you ever do for your whole family. Right now, your lack of magic is exactly the advantage we need to save the Galaxy."

"Why can't at least one family member come with me?" Boba asked. "Dad and Uncle Carmine can switch places."

"Because Daddy is the one meant to bring balance to the Force, and someone's bound to get suspicious if Uncle Carmine isn't around. We all need to stay here so no one else will think we're trying to hide. We need Lady Morpha and the Chancellor to believe we're all vulnerable."

Boba thought again. Sure, he wished that even just for a day, he could experience having powers like his family, but not like this. No magical power was worth having to be away from your whole family for who-knows-how-long. But, his family was asking him this for the good of their family and many others. What if this was his chance to find his purpose in the royal family?

"Where am I going?" Boba asked.

"We don't remember." Gabby said, amid Boba's confused and panicked look. "We told the protection team and then had Memoria erase the location from our memories in case Lady Morpha tries to get it out of us."

"Wow. Very smart. But... I still don't wanna leave you."

"We know, Sweetie." Padme said, pulling Boba into a hug and kissing his head. "You'll be back in our arms before you know it."

"This was gonna be for your birthday," said Anakin, taking something out. "But now seems like a better time to give you this.

Anakin pulled up the sleeve from Boba's wrist and put a bracelet on the boy. It was made with a light blue rope and had a japor snippet charm like the one on Gabby's necklace that she'd received for her third birthday. Boba's bracelet had green and blue beads on it.

"This japor snippet will bring you good fortune, and serve as a reminder that no matter what, no matter how far apart we are, you're part of this family, and always will be."

Boba let a few tears fall as his parents pulled him into another hug. Boba also hugged his sister, his cousin, his aunt and uncle, and his grandfather. Remix was the last to get a good nuzzle.

Finally, it was time to cast the spell.

Padme, Camilo, Caroline, and the horses stood back as every biological royal family member stood in a circle with Boba in the middle.

"This isn't gonna hurt, is it?" Boba asked, shutting his eyes tightly.

"It will feel strange at first," said Qui-Gon. "Just relax and you will be okay."

"Everyone ready?" said Gabby.

Everyone looked at each other and nodded.

A different colored glow appeared from each member as he or she placed their hands out. Orange for Carmine, pink for Gabby, purple for Lamenta, green for Anakin, and gold for Qui-Gon. They all concentrated as their magic slowly moved out from all of them and formed a huge ball of energy above Boba, who was shocked by the size of his family's powers combined.

Suddenly, the ball of magic, began slowly soaking beams of magic into Boba, who began to feel a very odd, tingly sensation running through him like nothing he'd ever experienced before. He could hear his family struggling though, as they'd never conducted such a spell before, much less had so much of their magic taken, if any at all.

Thankfully, it wasn't much longer until the spell was complete, but the whole family collapsed with exhaustion.

Luckily, Caroline thought ahead and gave everyone some water to help them. Having spent so much time with Carmine and Lamenta's magic, she knew hydration was the key to safe recovery after a difficult spell.

Boba still felt so much tingling running through him, probably even more than when he had his first sugar rush. But even he collapsed to the floor.

"It's done." Qui-Gon sighed as Caroline helped him up.

"Now what?" Gabby asked.

"Crescent? You ready?" Caroline asked.

"Yes, Your Highness." Crescent said, grabbing the backpack that was packed for Boba. "Everything you'll need is in here, Boba. Fuzzy is in there too. Don't worry."

Boba looked at his parents once more.

"Time to go." Anakin said sadly.

Boba and Crescent both wore black cloaks in the dark of night and went deep into the forest, where Crescent ran as fast as he could to activate his horseshoes. That brought them to a remote location, where they met with some old friends.

"Ready for your hardest job yet?" Crescent asked as some familiar figures approached.

"Babysitting?" groaned Crosshair.

"Protecting a prince." Crescent corrected. He gently nudged Boba to get closer to the Bad Batch. "Make sure you take good care of him. And make sure he has Fuzzy at bedtime. He can't sleep without his lion."

"Crescent! Ix-nay on the ion-lay." Boba groaned through his teeth, his face turning red from embarrassment.

"Don't be embarrassed." Hunter said. "Wrecker has a stuffed animal too."

"Hey, leave Lula out of this!" Wrecker whined.

Crescent gave Boba one last nuzzle. "One of us will come get you when it's safe." He promised. "Be good for the Bad Batch."

And with that, Crescent flew off, and Boba was escorted onto the Bad Batch's ship to be relocated.
