Interrogation & Construction
Fennec was taken into custody and interrogated by the royal guards, as well as Lamenta.
"Who hired you?" asked a guard. "Why is your employer after Omega?"
"Client confidentiality." Fennec said. "I will not say anything."
"Well, we have other ways of getting the truth." Lamenta said.
Lamenta cracked her knuckles to intimidate, and she grabbed Fennec's cuffed wrists and looked into her mind to find the truth.
Meanwhile, Anakin was still holding Omega, trying to calm her down after what she experienced. He tried singing his lullaby to her, like he did with Gabby or Boba sometimes. It seemed to work, especially since Omega had been starved of lullabies all her life. But, she was still scared.
"It's gonna be okay, Sunshine." Anakin told her. "You're okay."
"Why is she after me?" Omega said.
"Uncle Anakin," said Lamenta, coming in. "I know who hired that lady."
According to Lamenta's truth seeking, Fennec Shand was hired by none other than the Kaminoans who engineered the clones. So, she had Tech do a little digging into that. It turned out that despite the war being over, the Kaminoans planned on continuing the process, and they had new plans to engineer an army of female clones, as in recent years, female fighters in the war were showing twenty percent more effectiveness than many male fighters.
Take Carousella and Crescent for example.
Crescent was bigger than Carousella, more muscular, and flew very fast. Carousella, on the other hand, ran twice as fast, flew ten percent more swiftly, held an impressive board breaking record, and graduated her class earlier than fifteen male recruits at her current age.
Or for a human example.
Between... Anakin and Gabby.
Magic-wise, Gabby mastered most of her powers when she was barely four years old, whereas Anakin still had much to learn up to now. And she got her wings earlier than him too.
According to many tests based on reports of the clones' progress over the war up to now, many clones were even being outdone by many females they faced. Ahsoka could outrun many of them, Mila managed to solve ten trigonometry problems before Tech could even get the third one started, even Omega now managed to master her powers by mere experience, unlike Boba, who had to rely on books to learn to control his.
"What's worse is, they're planning to take as much DNA from her as possible and then..." Lamenta made a slashing motion across her throat.
That made Anakin hold Omega tighter. He looked at Padme and said, "Contact CPS."
So, the Skywalker-Jinn family got right to work contacting lawyers, child protection agents, some pediatricians, child psychologists, and got Memoria to help Boba learn that memory spell she mastered.
However, the Kaminoans were ready to fight back too. And they were prepared to argue that Omega was their property, as Jango Fett only requested the first clone, not a second one. But just in case, they hired someone else to get the job done.
"I've taken on Jedi as well as magical creatures." said Bane. "Taking on both will cost you triple my usual rate. I will bring you the girl."
"Get her by any means necessary." said Nama Su. "I don't care how much you charge. Just get her, and bring her undamaged."
"As you wish."
The royal family looked for anyone who could testify on Omega's behalf. They tried talking to as many older clones as they could to see if any of them had noticed anything about Omega over the years and if they were willing to testify.
But Omega was worried. Other clones didn't get the same protection Boba did because he was part of a deal Jango Fett made, and thus the Kaminoans were barred from using him as part of the cloning process. That was also why Boba went into foster care instead of back to the Kaminoans after Jango died.
"Are the Kaminoans gonna take me away?" Omega asked Anakin as he finished talking with Queen Sophia.
Anakin knew that tone all too well. And the look on Omega's face hadn't been that much different as Gabby's had been three years ago. He might've forgiven, but he hadn't forgotten.
It had been just after Anakin, Ahsoka, Master Secura, and their friends had been rescued after protecting the Lurmen village from the Separatists. Aayla had just learned that Gabby was in fact the secret, forbidden offspring of Anakin Skywalker, and she dreaded the mere thought of the Jedi Council separating them above anything else. Anakin had reassured Gabby that he wouldn't let the Council or anyone else take her away, but the Council took her and fought Anakin to keep him from taking her back. It was the most devastating day of his entire life. And he'd been unable to stop crying in the days he spent not knowing if he would ever see his baby girl again.
Anakin didn't know what to say to Omega now. He might've only known her for a short time, but he and Padme already loved her as their own just as they loved Boba when they first adopted him. He worried if he told her it was okay, she would be taken away and traumatized later. Omega might not have been as young as Gabby was when this happened to her, but in Anakin's eyes, she was still a little girl. His little girl.
Omega begged Anakin with her eyes to tell her what was going to happen.
"Omega... Sweetheart." Anakin took the tween into his arms. "I don't know what's gonna happen. But I can promise you that we're not going down without a fight. When you're part of a family, you fight for the ones you love. And that's what we're gonna do."
Omega hugged her adoptive father's neck, and he hugged her tightly.
"I know you're scared, little one. I am too." Anakin confessed. "I went through a similar scenario with Gabby a few years back. I was terrified then too."
"But I thought she was your real daughter."
"She is. I mean- She's my biological daughter. You and she are both my real daughters." Anakin said. "I didn't need to give you life to make you my kid. Just love."
For the time being, the palace was under extreme protection. The royal family placed the whole building into an energy bubble that no one from outside the palace would be able to pass through, and if Omega wanted to leave the palace for any reason, she had to do so in disguise with the royal guards and at least two Bad Batchers in range.
Omega spent most of her time in her room or with Estrella. But, she tried making friends with some of the other kids, and Anakin and Padme got to work enrolling her in school. But for now, she had Madam Jocasta as her tutor to make sure she was ready, and Mila sometimes too so she had a younger mind with more experience tutoring in different subjects. Mila became a more frequent visitor for that very reason. That and because she was tutoring Tech on everything that he needed to know about meeting her entire family for the first time and anyone else in the Encanto.
Both of them knew people would say a relationship between the two of them had a low probability of working because they literally came from different worlds, but they were determined to prove them wrong and make it work. After all, despite being clones, the Batchers were all very different. If they could live together with each other, and work with Jedi, why couldn't a clone from a world of advanced technology and a beautiful young scientist from a simpler timeframe that didn't even have wireless connections pursue a romantic relationship?
"Got it, Omega?" said Mila, helping Omega go over some algebra equations.
"I think so." Omega said.
"Here, I'll recite it one more time." Mila wrote it on the tablet. "The quadratic formula goes, 'X' equals negative 'B' plus or minus the square root of b-squared minus four-A-C over two A. Now, repeat that back to me."
Omega tried to remember it to the best of her ability.
"X equals negative B plus or minus the square route of b-squared minus four 'C' over two-A?"
"Four A-C." Mila corrected. "But you're getting better at remembering. Just study that a little more, and you'll get it right. Let's move on to some Basic vocab now. And this time, we'll make it a game."
Mila got out some flashcards and a box of various items and explained that she was going to show her a word and use action-played scenarios to help Omega learn and understand the definition.
She first showed Omega the word "projectile," then she got out a plush toy and saw Lamenta.
"Lamenta, catch!" Mila said, throwing the toy like a baseball, and Lamenta caught it. "Okay, Omega. What do you think 'projectile' means?"
"A self-propelled form of ammunition?" Omega guessed.
"That's right." Mila smiled. "Now let's try something a little harder."
She brought out a card with the word 'cachinnate.'
Mila needed a little more help on this one. Luckily, she saw Tech walking by.
"Hey, love." Mila said. "Mind helping me with a vocabulary lesson for a moment?"
"I'd be glad to." Tech said. "What's the word?"
"I just need you to stand still." Mila said.
"Okay..." Tech seemed confused.
"We just need to show Omega the meaning of a word..." Mila cracked her knuckles, but then Tech started to regret stopping when Mila started tickling him.
"Mila, no!" Tech laughed, Mila tickling him mercilessly.
"Cootchie coo!" Mila teased as she mercilessly continued to tickle her boyfriend.
Tech tried to escape, but Mila used her telepathy and kept tickling.
"Do you know what cachinnate means yet, Omega?" asked Mila.
"To tickle someone a lot?" Omega guessed, giggling.
"Nope. Try again." Mila said, tickling Tech more, making him laugh harder.
"Oh! It means to laugh loudly and uncontrollably." Omega said. "Right?"
"That's right." Mila said, ceasing her tickling. Good thing too, because Tech needed to catch his breath.
"Next time, could you just tell me a joke?"
"That's no fun." Mila whined playfully before kissing Tech on his cheek.
Omega laughed.
"How's the tutoring going, Mila?" Padme asked, walking in.
"It's going very well, Senora Padme." said Mila. "Omega will be ready to start school on time. How are you feeling, by the way?"
"Fine, thank you." Padme said, rubbing her stomach. "A little tired carrying this extra weight, but fine."
"You must be so excited about your family growing." Mila said. "I hope someday I can experience that joy of having my own bundle of joy."
"Maybe someday you will." Padme said. "Whether you have a baby or decide to adopt. Or both."
"Someday." Mila looked at Tech, who turned very red, which made his girlfriend laugh. "Relax, Amor. We're not even close to that yet."
Tech seemed to sigh with relief. He was hardly even ready to consider marriage, much less parenthood.
One day, Anakin took Omega with him and the other kids to see how things were back on Coruscant. They couldn't believe what had become of their beloved Jedi Temple.
"Oh my God." Gabby gasped. "The Temple."
"It's really fallen apart." Lamenta commented.
Boba couldn't believe it either. Four years ago, he would've thought the Jedi deserved it happening to them, but after he got adopted and bonded with so many people at the Temple, it began to feel like a second home up to now. And now it was destroyed.
"This place used to be so amazing." Boba said. Then he noticed something in the rubble. "Hey, one of my starships!"
Boba dug through the rubble and found what looked like a starship like the gold tipped one Anakin flew in the war. It was dusty, but otherwise undamaged.
"I must've left it here." Boba said, dusting off the toy.
Gabby couldn't help letting tears fall as she looked at the Temple.
"We have so many great memories here." Gabby said.
"I know." Anakin said. He looked at Omega. "This is where I grew up after I was freed from slavery."
"I wish I could've seen more of it." Omega said.
"You would've loved it." Lamenta said. "When Daddy and I first became part of the Order, we had plenty of laughs here. Like, there was the time we started a pillow fight in our first meditation class."
Lamenta laughed.
"You remember all the times we pretended to be Indiana Jones and his sister Virginia?" Boba chuckled, patting his little sister.
Gabby chuckled. "I remember. That adventure we took to get the sapphire monkey from the fortress of King Kenobi." She looked at Omega. "We put a stuffed monkey in Uncle Obi-Wan's room and pretended to sneak into a haunted fortress to get it. And then Indiana left me to get tickle tortured."
"It's not my fault you were easier to grab." Boba defended playfully.
"Can the Temple be rebuilt?" Anakin asked a droid.
"Based on our current calculations and the extent of the damaged to the Temple, it could take approximately two-point-four-eight-nine years to rebuild." said a droid. "However, recent reports show that there are citizens who do not support the restoration of such a facility."
"What?" Anakin gasped.
The kids were shocked as well. They had to tell the Council.
