Dating, Planning, & Wondering
"So it's really true?" Isabela said as Mila was working on another invention.
"Si, it is." Mila said. "I met someone here."
"Oh, Mija." Alicia said. "Who is he?"
How Mila managed to keep her father from spilling that she was with someone now, that was a miracle. Phenomenal even. But, she had to tell her family at some point.
"What does he look like?" Rosella asked, curious. "Is he handsome like Prince Charming? Does he have a steed?"
The Madrigals were all curious to know about Mila's relationship status. In this world, Mila could create a Holo-Face account and post her relationship status. But, it was even better to share it in person.
"His name is Tech. He's very smart." Mila told her family. "Doesn't look like the typical Prince Charming, admittedly... but it's what's inside that counts. And no, he doesn't have a steed. He does have a team of brothers by his side though, and they have special gifts of their own."
"And his inside is...?" Mirabel chimed in.
"He's sweet, understands me, and appreciates learning new facts and experimenting. Gotta love a guy who likes to take chances. He might not be the most athletic man I've met, but he's got a strong mind and heart."
"Have you two invented anything together?"
"Actually, he was actually one of those who helped me perfect the invention that helped us find Rosella."
"He sounds like a very interesting man." Alicia said. "Will we get to meet him?"
"I don't know. He's been away with his squad, the Bad Batch, for days. I haven't heard from him yet."
Mila took out a device and showed her family a picture from her and Tech's first date.
"You sure you wanna be with a guy who's not around?" Luisa asked.
"I know it sounds hard, and it is. But, he's fighting for a good cause. And the Jedi say this war should be over soon. So, it's likely Tech and I will get to spend a little more time together, hopefully very soon."
Suddenly, there was shouting in the ballroom.
"NO, NO, NO! You're doing it all wrong!" Caroline's voice shouted from another room.
Mila was curious as to what was happening, so she went to see what was happening, and Caroline... she was being very bossy.
Boba's birthday was three months and eight days away, and Caroline was in charge of planning the whole thing, as well as Padme and Anakin's anniversary party in one month.
After managing her husband's double life as a famous singer, planning and organizing everything for every Skywalker and Jinn's coronation ball, Caroline was determined to make it as a great party planner. Her brother-in-law's anniversary was a big deal in the galaxy, Boba's coronation would be the first of an adopted child, and with all the important guests coming to both events, everything had to be perfect.
But for Caroline right now... it seemed like everyone around her had suddenly turned completely incompetent and disorganized.
"The red and pink arrangements are for the anniversary party. The blue ones are for Boba's birthday ball. Didn't anyone look at the charts I sent?"
The servant droids looked at each other while Caroline face-palmed.
"Of all days, I got stuck with droids with malfunctioning processors." Caroline groaned.
"Wow. Was I that frantic when I planned my and Mirabel's quinces?" Mila asked.
"If you had Mami's powers," said Antonio. "You would've tornadoed the house."
"How old do you think Boba is?" Caroline growled at another droid when they showed her decorations that looked like little teddy bears wearing party hats. "This is a thirteen-year-old's coronation, not a five-year-old's birthday party!"
"I haven't seen that much shouting about an event since your mother began planning our wedding." Alicia commented, looking at her husband. "Remember, Bruno?"
"How could I forget?" Bruno smiled, leaning in to kiss his wife.
"NO! That's the wrong cake design!" Caroline shouted and groaned. "I've managed the biggest pop star in the galaxy for five years and planned six successful coronation balls, and this is the best help I'm given?!"
Rosella saw a harp and made it start playing pretty music. That made Caroline snap out of it.
"What are you doing?" Caroline asked.
"Making music." Rosella said. "You looked upset, and I thought music would make you feel better."
Rosella continued to play the pretty music.
Caroline actually did start to calm down seeing as the child was playing so beautifully. That was a magical thing about music; it had the power to make people feel things within seconds of it hitting their ears.
Caroline smiled at the little girl's determination.
"You really are gifted with music, aren't you?" she said.
"I love music." Rosella said. "It makes people happy."
"You haven't seen her husband." Mila told her sister. "He could teach you a lot about other kinds of music."
"I can do that too." said Remix, walking in and testing out his turn tables. "Musical talent runs in my family."
"What's this thing?" Rosella asked curiously.
"They're turntables. You can make really cool sounds with them and remix music."
"Like your name?"
"Yup. Remixing is a lot of fun."
Remix played a song and showed Rosella how to move the turning circles to add some fun effects to it. Although, the music was definitely a lot louder and booming than the Madrigals were used to hearing.
"That's what's known as hip-hop and pop!" Remix shouted over the music.
Caroline looked around and noticed Remix did not have his rider with him.
"Remix, have you seen Boba around?"
"I think he said something about researching Kamino."
And it was true.
Boba couldn't get that girl he saw in the vision off his mind. For days, he'd been trying to look into the database on Kamino to see if there were any records of a human girl on Kamino. But so far... nothing. He knew nothing about this girl except that she looked like a female version of him.
Boba felt pretty sure his father would've told him if he had a sister, or a cousin. He knew he had a biological aunt and thought maybe the girl was her daughter and he had at least one biological family member left. But when he tried looking up his aunt, it showed no record that she had a daughter.
"Who are you?" Boba asked, staring off into space.
Boba recalled sometime when he was seven years old. He'd snuck out of his quarters with Fuzzy one day and looked around the facility. It was pretty much the only exploring he could do aside from reading. Sometimes, he would look inside the classrooms and see other clones learning and training, and sometimes he saw the little ones playing in the nursery.
Little Boba thought so many times about how lonely he was whenever he looked into those rooms or when he read a book. A lot of people in the fictional stories he read had siblings and/or close friends, and some had two parents. A dad and a mom.
So many days, Boba longed for a normal life with his family. He wished he and his father lived a more normal life. Maybe that his father would meet and marry a nice woman who would be Boba's mom, and maybe give him a brother or sister of his own. But, Boba also knew he was a clone, so he asked Jango one day if he could ask for another unaltered clone so he could have a brother.
But Jango told him, "These clones are bred to be soldiers, not playmates. And bounty hunters don't have close relationships."
Sometimes, Boba wondered if Jango really had his son's best interests at heart. He believed he meant well, that he just wanted his son to be able to defend himself and maybe bounty hunter skills would give him a fighting chance. But, Jango never encouraged him to take up other interests most parents would with their kids.
He never encouraged Boba to learn an instrument, master skills that didn't have to do with bounty hunting, and when Boba was eight, he told him he had to start learning not to be carrying his lion around.
Boba's adoptive family... they were different.
Unlike Jango Fett, the Skywalkers encouraged Boba to face his emotions instead of avoiding them. His sister showed him affection right from the start, then she and their musicorns showed him how much fun he could have while learning how to sing and dance and make music, and his adoptive parents were a lot like the loving families he'd read about in his books.
Anakin was a compassionate, loving, and often fun father who cared about each of his children and always did what he thought best to make them happy. Padme, she was the best mother Boba could've asked for. As compassionate as she was beautiful, sang beautiful lullabies, and always gave her kids lots of kisses. Boba still couldn't explain it, but a mother's kisses just felt magical.
Even though he was almost thirteen, he didn't mind when his parent still tucked him in sometimes. His birth father was often away, and so he didn't always have someone to tuck him in. After all he went through in his younger years, he didn't need to be told twice to appreciate what he had. Sadly, it didn't stop him from being treated as an outcast by everyone else.
Boba wondered if there was any way he could convince his parents to adopt another kid so he wouldn't be the only adopted one. But with a new baby on the way, it didn't sound very likely.
