Breakfast & Answers

At breakfast the next morning, Queen Neeyutnee, the Skywalkers and Jinns were joined by the Madrigals, some of whom couldn't believe the new foods and drinks that existed in this world.

Alicia found that she really like shurra fruit, and Isabela definitely wanted to learn what kind of plants those new fruits grew from so she could see if she could grow them too. She was still surprised when she learned at least two others had the same powers as her.

"I had no idea coffee could taste like this." Isabela said after she'd tried a vanilla Frappuccino with caramel drizzle. She took another big sip of it.

"Tia Julieta would be jealous of some of the recipes they have here." Camilo said, taking a spoonful of oats, grains, and apples he thought was oatmeal. "Even their cereals are really good."

"Camilo, that's horse chow you're eating." Carousella said.

Camilo spat it out, to the others' amusement.

"He did the same thing when I first made homemade dog food for Chika." Mila said.

"Why do you even have horse food at the table?" Bruno asked.

"Because in this world, equines are treated as people, not pets." Crescent said, digging into his apple salad.

"Just wait until you see the other species who live here." Mirabel said, sipping some orange juice.

Chika started sniffing at the table and sat down, staring up at Anakin, who had the most bacon on his plate.

Anakin held the bacon he was eating away.

"No, Chika. You have your own food." Anakin said firmly.

Chika whimpered, begging.

"I said no. This is my bacon. Mine!"

Gabby shook her head.

"Daddy always gets greedy with bacon." she said. "There's no swaying him."

Boba picked a piece of meat from his plate and held it down for Chika.

"Here, Chika." Boba said.

Chika walked over to Boba and ate the meat out of his hand. And then, Boba started petting her and letting her give him kisses.

"Such a sweet boy." Alicia said, watching Boba with the dog.

"That's our Boba." Padme said. "He's turning thirteen soon."

"Entering the teen years," said Camilo. "Get ready for drama."

"Camilo," scolded Alicia. "Even if it is true, don't say that."

"We're all facing changes right now." Caroline said. "A new home, a new baby on the way, and unexpected new friends. But, we're all adjusting, and once the war ends, things will be even better."

"Just have Luisa go against your enemy's leader." Camilo said. He looked at his cousins. "Remember when Luisa scared the kids who were teasing Mirabel?"

"I was twelve." Luisa defended. "Didn't know any better."

"You did scare them pretty good though." Mila smiled. "Probably more than that time I made Senor Perez think his couch wanted to eat him. That definitely got him to spend less time sitting around."

The kids all started laughing.

Just then, a servant came by with a message.

"Prince Carmine, General Kenobi has sent an emergency transmission that you and Princess Lamenta must head to the Jedi Temple immediately."

"Did he say why?" Carmine asked.

"No. He only said it was urgent." the servant answered.

Carmine cleaned himself off. "Well, Lamenta. Looks like we're headed to the Temple. Crescent-"

"On it." Crescent got himself saddled up.

Lamenta grabbed a fritter before joining her father on Crescent's back to ride and apparate to the Temple.

Carmine and Lamenta soon arrived at the Temple and met with Obi-Wan.

"What's the emergency?" Lamenta asked.

"Interrogating Dooku." Obi-Wan said. "Peppermint has been... working with him for hours, and gotten almost nowhere."

"What do you mean by 'working' with him?"

"It's better if I show you."

And the Jinns couldn't believe their eyes when they saw what Peppermint was doing to Dooku.

"This isn't funny anymore!" Dooku spat.

"You're telling me." Peppermint said before licking his face again.

"Stop it! I'll talk!"

"That's enough, Peppermint." Obi-Wan said.

"Oh, that's a relief." Peppermint sighed, scraping her tongue off with her hoof. "I gotta rinse this taste off my tongue."

As Peppermint left to rinse her mouth, Obi-Wan led the two royals in.

"Skywalker..." said Dooku.

"I'm Carmine." Carmine corrected. "I'm wearing glasses, you know."

"Just tell us what we want to know, Dooku." Lamenta said, putting her hand on Dooku's wrist. "I'll know if you're lying."

"Who are you working for?" Carmine said. "Where is the Sith Lord the Jedi are looking for?"

Dooku was silent for a moment, then Crescent came in and held his tongue out, threatening to continue where Peppermint paused.

"I'm a trained royal guard," said Crescent. "I could lick a lot longer."

Not wanting to get licked again, Dooku caved.

"His name is Darth Sidious." Dooku said. "He hides within the Galactic Senate."

"One of the senators is a Sith Lord?!" said Crescent.

Lamenta looked into Dooku and saw the truth.

"He's telling the truth." Lamenta said. "Who is it?"

"If I tell you, I will be a dead man."

"You're a dead man if you don't tell us." Carmine said. "But we can offer you protection if you tell us."

Carmine decided to take a more gentle move.

"You used to teach my father. Qui-Gon Jinn?" That seemed to grab Dooku's attention. "You practically raised him. Surely there's still some good in you. If you cared about him at all, you'd know that if you don't tell us who the Sith Lord is, that his grandchildren will live a life of misery and chaos and it will be all your fault!"

Carmine could sense that he struck a nerve in Dooku. As a child, when Qui-Gon would visit Carmine on his birthdays, and write him letters, he would tell Carmine all about his days as a Padawan learner under Master Dooku.

"You were once a great Jedi. A great man. Things have changed for the Jedi, and you can change too." Carmine said. "If not for us, for your old Padawan and his grandchildren."

Lamenta held Dooku's hands this time.

"With or without my magic, I can see it in you." Lamenta said gently. "You want to tell the truth, don't you?"

Dooku was silent for a while, and before they knew it, he finally spoke.

"Darth Sidious is really-"

Suddenly, Dooku was held in a Force choke.

Scariest deja vu ever for Lamenta, who started screaming. This was just like what happened with Letta when Ahsoka and Lamenta were accused of murdering her.

Carmine and Obi-Wan jumped in and tried doing something, trying to break Dooku out of the choke, but nothing seemed to happen, so they concentrated harder until Dooku dropped to the floor, just barely conscious.

"Are you okay?" Lamenta asked, actually surprised she was asking a Sith Lord if he was okay.

Dooku tried to say something, but found he couldn't speak.

Carmine took a look at Dooku. As Count Crescendo and in music school, he'd seen this happen to other singers and experienced it for himself.

"He's lost his voice." Carmine said, looking into Dooku's throat. "He's not gonna be able to say anything for a week."

"I'll go find some writing supplies." said Crescent.

"Probably not the best idea." Obi-Wan said. "Dooku had pretty nasty handwriting."

Dooku looked offended by that.

"Well, we gotta try something." Crescent said. "I've learned to decipher a lot of chicken scratch writing."

"Maybe we should try yes or no questions and see if any senators fit a description we get?" Lamenta said.

"Smart idea, Lamenta. Time to be detectives."
