Chapter 6

15 December 1699

It took Lena and Brochan a whole day to get over Mount Bas the only thing they found odd was that they didn't get attacked by black dogs their uncle and father had wanted them about before heading north.

They set off from the river, dusk up the mount yesterday and had just made it the bottom on the other side. The sun was starting to set so they set up camp. Lena cooked rabbit stew for her and Brochan dinner. They talked about their mother and her connection to their uncle Mungo land that he governs.

Brochan told Lena the story of how their father met their mother and what their mother was like since she never met her.

Mum or Dallas was 21 when she met our dad or Adair who was 23. This land was not divided between their uncle and father, but was governed by their grandad and from what I know there were no wars between anyone not even the creature.

Father was visiting Beatha castle to study up for the exam his father was going to give his on the land and creatures which his brother Mungo had taken a few years ago and had passed with no mistakes now it was his turn his other two brothers had failed and were not bothered by that. He visited Beatha castle, which had the largest book collection in the whole country. He looked in the room full of books and their siting and reading a book on weapons and how to fight was a beautiful maiden with curly ginger hair that look like fire was dancing from the floor to her head.

Adair walked up to her and whispered in her ear that she had tucked some hair behind exposing it, "You could learn more by fighting someone or at least by picking a weapon up than what you are reading in a book." She jumped when she heard him speak that she was so into the book that she had not heard his footsteps. Adair apologised for making her jump and offered to help her learn how to fight and how to wield a weapon of her choice. Dallas giggles and agree, however, Adair adds on a condition that she teaches him about the land and creatures in it, she agreed. Adair adds on that condition because he noticed that one of the book closes to her was one on the creature on Scotland, which looked like it had been read a thousand times.

They met the next morning in the courtyard by the stables. Dallas was wearing an old light brown dress that even with holes in making her look poor. He goes up behind her and whispered in her ear " You sure you want to learn from that?" She turned and gave him a look to tell him to stop doing that.

She introduced herself and then he introduced himself to her before showing her how to fight. He hands Dallas a red dress that has trouser underneath so that if she was to fall he would not she anything she did not want him to see. Dallas got changed and Adair was more in love with her than ever. He then leads her to a table he had placed one of every weapon in the castle their and asked her to choose one. Dallas gave Adair a confused look and asked " Why is there a book on the table how is that a weapon." Adair laughter and replied in a gentle and caring voice "That represents the weapon of knowledge." Dallas laughed and chose the book and a broadsword. Adair gave Dallas a loving smile which made her blush a little.

Two months had passed winter had fallen upon Beatha castle and Adair was days away from taking the test his father had set him. Dallas was now a great broadsword user she could block, attack and disarm anyone with one swing of her blade. Adair wanted to ask Dallas to be his girlfriend, but was nervous and was unsure if she had feelings for him like he did for her. Adair was by the stable where he had trained Dallas to us a broadsword as she approached Adair. He still had not noticed that Dallas was behind him. So she crept up behind him and whispered in his ear "How do you like it know Adair?" Adair jumped and turned to face Dallas. She was in tears of laughter at his shocked face. Adair blushed and gently pulled her to him, one hand on her hips the other under her chin. Dallas blushed and kissed Adair on the lips Adair kissed back passionately. They broke the kiss and looked into each other's eyes. Dallas spoke first in a flustered voice "So I was wondering if your not seeing anyone if you want to go out together like as girlfriend and boyfriend." Dallas looked down was she spoke and Adair blushed and puts his hand back under her chin and making her look into his dark brown eyes, which only showed love and kindness to her and whisper in her ear. "I was going to ask you the same question so yes, I will be your boyfriend." Adair and Dallas continued to kiss until Adair brothers interrupted there. "So who this Adair?" Mocked Dochan. Adair turned around and introduced Dallas and regrettably said goodbye to her as he headed home to take his test he promised to come back for her and that they would get married and have a family together. Dallas waved and ran to Adair chasing after his horse.

A few years after that Adair returned to find Dallas. After his father's death, he wants to start his clan down south and wanted Dallas to be is queen of the clan so to speak. Adair looked all over Beatha castle, then through one of the windows he saw a red haired lady sitting by the sea on a rock on her own he instantly knew it was Dallas somehow and ran the beach. shouting out her name. Dallas turned to see a much older Adair running towards her when she last saw Adair he was just 18 and she was 17 know she was 19 so he much have been 20. He had grown a beard with suited his face made him look more rugged which made her blush. She starts running towards him. They met in the middle and Adair lifted Dallas up and kissed her on her soft, smooth lips the kiss felt the same as it did when they first kissed. They broke the kiss and they sat on the beach together. "See I came back for you." Adair jokingly stated to Dallas. "Yes, I see sorry to hear about your father. So what happens now?" Dallas, questioned Adair. He laughed and whispered "Will you marry me and come with me down south to help me lead my clan." He asked. Dallas agreed and the next day they got married and within a week they had moved into Claymore castle. And in a five year had a healthy son was born on the 7th of July 1682 and five more years later a daughter was born on 12th of September 1687.

Brochan stopped telling the story with tears in his eyes and said "You know the rest!" Lena nodded and thanked her brother for telling her how their parent met and then put her head on her sheep skin blanket went to sleep as Brochan watched over her sleeping. Brochan started think how much his younger sister reminds him of their mother and the promise he made to protect his sister no matter what to his father.
