The New Leauge
The world will always be an amazing place. Unpredictable, always changing, always under attack. Today was no exception.
Maybe somewhere out there is a world that isn't under constant threat. A true utopia that had no use for heroes. One where people could live without fear.
This is not that world.
Y/N: Everyone keep your eyes sharp!
You stood alongside your team as a large monster, larger than the island itself, hovered over New York with smaller squid like creatures fell it's belly. It had appeared about an hour ago and the smaller creatures were attaching themselves to civilians.
Y/N: Flash and Arrow, you two are with me. Wonder Woman and Aquaman, start attacking the creature.
Cassie: Already on it.
Kaldur: I'll try to communicate with it.
The two left to deal with the larger creature as you leaped into action and punched one of the creatures away. You kneeled down to one of the infected civilians and began to examine the creature.
Bart: There's too many of them, Batman. For every one we stop, a thousand more show up! Even I can't count them! There are so many!
Artemis: Enough for everyone in the city, Flash. My sonic arrows aren't doing much either.
Y/N: Let's try to remove them. Maybe we can find a way to stop this from getting worse, Arrow.
You began to try to pull the creature off of the man's face but it wouldn't budge. You then tried to freeze it off but it didn't work either.
Y/N: No. Not gonna work. There would be too many anyway.
Everyone with a squid on their face suddenly began to stand up with groans. You then watched as they began to march toward the monster's tentacles.
Artemis: The infected...They're heading back to that thing!
Y/N: We need to stop them. Whatever it is, gathering this many people won't be for its own benefit. Come on.
Artemis began to follow you as Bart raced around to smack away as many creatures as he could to buy you all some time.
Bart: I can try to slow them down....
Up above, Cassie and Kaldur fought off the large tentacles to avoid them from causing any more destruction.
Kaldur: We're not getting anywhere, Cassie. Can't even scratch it's skin.
Cassie: I have Diana's lighting bolt, but it's not working! What is this thing?!
She tried to stab the lighting bolt into the creature's skin but it did nothing. Kaldur used the water from wherever he could to try slice through the creature but it just splashed off of it.
Bart: This thing is spraying out sea food like nothing. Everyone go this way! Head away from the giant tentacle monster!
They didn't stop. They just kept walking mindlessly toward the floating monstrosity.
Y/N: Fine. Plan b. Let's see if we can get these Boom Tubes working.
You pulled out your communicator and hit the button. Just like that, you entered in a set of locations which opened up several boom tubes. The mindless masses walked through the portals as Cassie and Kaldur leaped down to join the rest of you.
Bart: Sweet! Can you use that thing to maybe, I dunno, boom that bad boy somewhere else?
Y/N: No can do. The system won't let me open one bigger than these. These are taking everyone to Jersey for the time being.
Kaldur: I couldn't talk to this thing from the outside. Right now, communication might be our only option.
Cassie: Especially since Superman and Lantern are away on another mission. We need to show it that regardless, we have the means to hurt it.
Bart: First we need to find some softer parts.
Cassie: Wait...are we going inside that thing?!
Arrow: Ew.
Y/N: We're going to find it's brain and negotiate it's surrender.
----------
Across the world in China, two figures flew as fast as they could back to New York.
Kyle: That's the third earthquake in how many days, Conner? Does that seem, I dunno, natural?
Conner: Whatever what's happening, we need to hurry to Metropolis to help the others. This is the first mission they've called you into. We don't want to be more late than we already are.
Kyle: R-Right! Though, knowing the Justice Leauge, they probably have all of this sorted out by now.
Conner: Maybe. Just be ready for when we get there.
Kyle: Yes sir!
------
Cassie: Oh, gods. It smells worse than the watchtower's men bathroom after one of Bart's pizza binges.
Artemis: I have to agree on that one.
Y/N: Right. What are you two doing in the men's bathroom?
Kaldur: This place is vast. Does anyone know where to go?
You were all now inside of the creature thanks to the gill that Bart had found. All of you transversed through the squishy insides of the creature. It was wet, moist, and sticky. In conclusion, it was gross.
Y/N: With all of the tubes open, my mapping system isn't working right. Bart, go ahead and run up ahead to see if you can find anything.
Bart: Aye aye, Captain!
He raced ahead, his feet mashing mushy sounds, while you held up a light to shine the way for the rest of you.
Cassie: It would suck if he ran face first into a wall.
Artemis: Oh, ew! And with his mouth open...
Kaldur: That would be most undesireable.
The three laughed while you smirked at the idea. Cassie looked around with her lighting bolt which emitted enough light.
Cassie: We can't hurt this thing from the outside. Maybe we can attack the inside?
Kaldur held his head as he looked around.
Cassie: Kaldur? You good?
Kaldur: A headache. Does no one else hear that buzzing? Like hundreds of bees?
Bart suddenly reappeared with a disturbed face.
Bart: So, found something. First off, this place is definitely bigger than New York. Smells much worse to.
Artemis checked the computer on her wrist and looked over the map Bart had created. During times like this, you and her had placed a tracker onto his suit to get a layout of the land.
Artemis: I just checked the tracker on Bart. Seems like he ran through an area as big as Central Park. It looks like it has a bunch of structures there to. They're all connected to different things. This has to be the brain.
Y/N: Then we head there. Kaldur, you think you're good enough to get there?
Kaldur: I will be alright. Do not worry about me.
Artemis allowed Kaldur to use her as support as you all headed towards the neural system. It took a while before you found the place you were looking for.
Bart: I think this is brain central.
Before you, was a brain as large as an apartment building. The brain stems were all over the place and attached to all the inner walls.
Y/N: This is the place. Kaldur....
Kaldur dropped to his knees as he grabbed his head. You all turned toward him as he struggled.
Kaldur: I can hear it! I can hear it thinking!it's called a Reaper....and I think it's here to harvest humanity!
Bart: Harvest? What for? Is this like the Matrix?
Kaldur: I don't know. I can't make it all out. Just that it's our time to be harvest. This is the first. There are others coming. Lots of others. More Reapers. Enough for the whole world.
More of these goliaths? That could be a massive problem. Artemis pulled out her device and checked it over.
Artemis: I'm trying to open a boom tube inside its brain. Maybe to move it out of the hacksensack. With all the tubes below, I can't get anymore open.
Before you could plan something out, more smaller creatures came swarming out. You all turned around as the swarm flew towards you all. You pulled out some batarangs and threw them into the swarm before it erupted into an explosion.
Bart: Action scene, people!
Everyone got ready for a fight.
--------
Outside of the creature, large tentacles swung around and collided with the surrounding buildings. They were suddenly restrained by a green ball as Kyle and Conner flew in.
Kyle: This might sound weird but, the ring says that they're inside.
Conner: Of course they are. We should get in there and figure out how to stop this thing.
Kyle and Conner hovered for a moment before Conner had an idea.
Conner: The ring can scan this thing, right?
Kyle: I'm not that experienced with it. I can't scan with it when I'm making something.
Conner sighed.
???: But I can.
The two turned around to see a green light lower towards them. When it got close enough, Conner and Kyle saw who it was.
Conner: Uh, hi?
Kyle: Who the hell are you?
???: I'm a Green Lantern. Like you.
???: And I'm here to help.
----------
You ducked down under one of the flying creatures before you grabbed another one and slammed it against the wall. You pulled your hand back and almost gagged when you saw how wet it now was.
Y/N: Now would be a great time for Conner and Kyle to show up.
Conner: Good thing we're here then!
You all looked up to see three figures flying towards you all. Kyle and the other Lantern held up their rings.
Kyle: Incoming!
You all ducked as green spikes shot out and stabbed into all of the creatures.
Bart: Yes! Green stuff! Kyle is here!
???: And he's not alone. So, is this the brain of this thing?
You all looked at the female Lantern before Artemis shrugged.
Artemis: Yeah, it is. You're here so I'm guessing you're gonna help us. Any ideas?
???: Yeah. Look.
She held up her ring and various green points appeared on the brain.
???: Target all of those spots. It should work.
Y/N: You all heard the lady. Give it all you got!
All: Alright!
All together, you all leaped forward and attacked. As you did, down below, creatures fell off the faces of everyone infected. They looked around in confusion. You landed back to the floor and looked up at the brain as everyone else landed next to you.
???: I had scanned the brain earlier and saw that it was a techno-organic being. I pinpointed some critical systems to disable. It'll regenerate but for now, it's hurt.
Kaldur: It's still talking. It says that it's not alone. It says that our time is up and that judgement is coming. It says its way would be mercy.
Y/N: This is mercy. Leave. Tell all the other Reapers that Earth is off limits. Tell everyone and everything like you that this world is protected.
Conmer: Whatever comes will face us.
Bart: Consider yourself warned.
Kaldur: We stand guard here.
Cassie: We are the Justice Leauge. Run.
Y/N And if you come back here, we won't show mercy.
--------
With the creature now gone, you all gathered in the road back on the ground as first responders checked on the civilians. Even the military came along to help destroy the last of the small creatures.
Kaldur: I couldn't make out everything, but I feel like I caught the start of something that was just a start. Something terrible is coming. Bigger than anything we've faced.
Cassie: And we'll be ready.
You looked over to the new Lantern.
Y/N: So, how are there two Lanterns? I was under the impression that the ring makes a new one after something happens to the current one.
Bart: Didn't we have, like, three lanterns before we got our own?
???: Truth be told, I've been one for a while now. I just, I liked to keep a low profile.
Conner: Then why did you help us now?
???: I dunno. I was watching the news and I saw you guys and...I just felt like now was a good time to step in. I'm not looking for membership if you guys aren't.....
Cassie: We're technically not looking for anyone ever but, we always welcome applications.
Conner: Especially now if a threat bigger than this is coming.
???: Uh, is that really ok?
Everyone turned to you. Right. You were the leader. You cleared your throat and turned to the new Lantern.
Y/N: I don't see why we couldn't welcome a new Lantern. We'll have to run a background check, though.
???: Yeah. I figured.
Y/N: But you did do great out there. You show a lot of promise. And, uh, I think you'd be a good addition to the team.
The girl smiled at your compliment.
???: Thanks. I guess I should give you guys my name.
She then looked at all of you.
???: My name is Jessica Cruz. I'm one of the Green Lanterns of Earth.

Cassandra sat on the couch after her workout as the TV played. She looked at the screen and saw a familiar logo appear on the screen when the news station began to play.
News Reporter: Today the Justice Leauge once again stopped something alien and horrific from causing mass destruction. As yet another force sought to eradicate us, enslave us, or destroy us, our world stood firm. These people are the first and last line of defense against the dark forces that come to attack us.
A picture of you and the other Leaguers appeared on the screen.
News Reporter: However, it is apparent that these heroes are not the original Leauge we have come to know. They are younger and many have speculated that they are in fact their pupils. This has called into question the Underaged Hero Law that was put into place last year.
Cassandra looked at you as you stood there beside your allies. It was so bizarre to her how much you were starting to look more like Bruce.
New Reporter: Regardless, these are our heroes. They are, The Justice Leauge.
