You and Lo contiued to hold back the bugs while Artemis was getting swarmed by countless more. Although, the signal they were emit, they were trying to rewrite the code in the len's HUD. Bodies interjection her with something. Trying to tell her something.

Suddenly, she saw it.

Artemis: Turn signal off! Purge!

The swarm continued to attack.

Lo: What are these things?!

Y/N: I don't know. One of these missles landed in Gotham but the creatures didn't behave like this. They attacked everyone.

You tried to reach Artemis but you couldn't get through the swarm.

Y/N: Artemis! Can you hear me?!

Artemis: Purge! Purge! Purge damn you!

She began to reach out her arm towards yours. She needed to stop them. Find the signal and attack them directly. Find their coding. Use it. Purge it.

She finally found your hand and grabbed it. You pulled as Artemis gave one last cry.

Artemis: Purge!

And just like that, the bugs fell to the ground as you caught her in your arms.

Y/N: Artemis, are you okay? Can you hear me?

Artemis nodded against your chest before she looked up at you with tears in her eyes.

Artemis: I saw it. I know what all this is. I know what's happening to our world.

Y/N: Artemis?

Artemis: We are so screwed.

Kaldur slowly stood up from the giant's departure. The 12 crystals floated behind him before he gathered them up and tucked them into a stray bag he found.

He looked around at who was left. Judging by their faces, they couldn't hear the song that he heard. It was ancient. Possibly older than Atlantis itself. But, why could he hear it and no one else? It was the song of the Earth.

And it was telling him what to do.

It says the end is coming. The breaking of the world. But they could fix it.

Kaldur tied the back to his waist and began to swam to where the crystals told him to go. They can fix this. All of this. He just needed to get them there.

You all stood there as the ground shook violently again. Once it was over, Lois and Jon rushed out to see the damage on their farm. Not as bad as it could've been.

Y/N: How big a quake was that?

Artemis: Off the Richter scale. Worldwide.

Y/N: You said you know what's happening. Wanna fill us in?

Artemis: Some of it, yeah. The HUD is still processing the data from the connection. This stuff, they call it the Purge. I'm still connected to them. I can still hear them. All the planets. All the people these things have purged. They say it's living death.

Y/N: Where does it come from? What does it do?

Artemis: Do? It makes us something else. Something not human. And I think that's the important bit. Not human. It was created for us. For humanity or at least the human species. And there seems to be a lot of them out there in the universe. Billions of species and this thing is trying to kill them all.

Lois: Oh my god.

Y/N: The rookie Green Lanterns went after its source. We need to tell them about this before it's too late.

Artemis: Wait! That's not everything. Those quakes. The things in the core that Conner went after, they're a failsafe. They've never been stopped before.

Lo: But those Quakes are happening all around the world. What's happened to Conner?

Earth's Core.

Conner has never done anything like this before. He has fought many foes, faced impossible odds, and he's saved countless lives. None of that could prepare him for this. He contoued to punch away at the machines but nothing was working.

These things survived the heat and pressure for a millenia. He wasn't sure he could. They're shaking the world apart. Every cycle was worse than the last but he couldn't stop them.

It was the end of the world if he failed. The end of his family. Of his friends. Of every life he had saved.

He pulled back his fist and gave it everything he had, only for it to do nothing. What if Superman was here. The real Superman? What would he do? What would he say? Would he have a plan?

No. He couldn't think like that right now. He had to give it his all. But that wasn't enough. He wasn't strong enough. He wasn't strong enough.

Conner slowly began to curl up into a ball as he began to shake.

He couldn't do this.

He failed.

Bart raced around the world, trying his best to stop as many bugs as he could. He was tired. He hasn't stopped since the quakes began about 24 hours ago. He was running on fumes now.

Bart: I have to, stay in the game.

He spotted what looked like the last of the missles. They had to be, right?

Bart: Last ones. They have to be. Please, for the love of God, be the last ones.

He raced, before he came to a sudden stop.

Bart: Ooooooookay. Giant naked dudes. Not what I was expecting today.

Standing in the open field, were the Unkindred giants. Bart shook his head and began to race. He needed to take down those missles first, giant naked guys later. Couldn't be a coincidence. Then, Bart found himself tripping over his own feet which sent him face first into a log.

Bart: Ouch. Why does that keep happening?

To add insult to injury, the ground began to shake again which made his face hit the wood repeatedly.

Bart: Ow. Earth is a real dick.

Cassie looked around the open space as she flew through it aimlessly. The voices still spoke to her but she was sick and tired of them.

Unkindred: Who are you?

Cassie: Cassie Sandmark.

Unkindred: Who are you?

Cassie: Wonder Woman.

Unkindred: Who are you?

Cassie: I don't know what you mean!

Unkindred: If you do not know yourself, then how can you know us? What are you looking for?

Cassie: Answers, I guess.

Unkindred: Then who are you?

Cassie: I'm looking for the truth. Truth? Am I the truth?

Unkindred: Let us see.

Cassie: What? Ok. Back it up a bit. You are the Unkindred.

Unkindred: We are.

Cassie: What are you?

Unkindred: We are a memory of so long ago. Before time, even before then. Many times past. In the eternal return it is our place to remember so all may awaken.

Cassie stopped flying and winced.

Cassie: Ok. That was a bit more philosophical than I was expecting. What's the Eternal Return? What purpose does it serve?

Unkindred: Ours is to reclaim stolen power and prepare.

Cassie: Prepare for what?

Unkindred: The beginning and the end.

Cassie: Of what?

Unkindred: Everything.

Bart stood up and looked up at the giants as they spoke.

Bart: Uh, this is bad. I can't feel the speed force.

Red Unkindred: We sing. We finally sing.

Green Unkindred: Many times we tried and always failed.

Purple Unkindred: Not today.

Bart: Ah...

A strange energy began to surround the giants and Bart.

Bart: AH.......

Bart suddenly found himself being pulled into it. Hundreds of bugs were swarming him.

Bart: AHHHHHHHHH!

Cassie felt the movement from inside the giant as it spoke.

Unkindered: The world shakes, but is not broken. The purge will be held at bay. Your friends have allowed us to sing.

Cassie: They'll be saving the world. It's what they do. They will stop you. We'll stop you.

Unkindred: Other have tried. The world breakers. The purge. Yet it is your powered that have allowed us to sing for the first time in this return.

Cassie: It doesn't matter. We don't care why you're doing this. We just know we have to stop you. We'll find a way. We always do. We'll finish you if you threaten our peace.

Bart: Cool speech.

Cassie turned around to find Bart halfway in the Unkindered. Only his top half was inside.

Cassie: Bart?!

Bart: Hey. Uh, what the hell is going on here? Why are there bugs hitting my butt?

Unkindred: He came following the purge. We have retaken the stolen speed and added it to ourselves.

Bart: Oh. Shit. Uh, can anyone hear me?! I think this thing wants to eat me! Open a boom tube or something!

Y/N: I trust Conner with my life, but we need to do something. The longer we wait, the more lives are lost. For now, we need to get Lois and Jon to safety.

Artemis: Something is trying to blow the world apart. Something else is trying to purge humanity. Where is this "safe" you're talking about?

Lois: I'm not leaving unless we have to. Go and do what you need to. We'll be fine.

Lo: I'll stay with them.

You nodded and turned back to Artemis.

Artemis: I'm trying to reach the Lanterns but no one's picking up. No one is. The lines are dead.

Y/N: Is the network down?

Artemis: No. It's something else. Some sort of energy field. I can't...

Bart:...not my butt....

Artemis held up her hands and looked around confused.

Y/N: What happened?

Artemis: Uh....I think I heard Bart say something about his butt. Wait. I'm still connected to those bugs' network. They must have Bart somewhere!

Y/N: What is he doing? He was going after those missles the last time he checked in.

Artemis: Those things must be swarming him. I can try to...Ah!

You caught her before she could fall to the ground. You could see the data being ran through the lens in her eye as she tried to process the data as it came to her.
