The Extinction Machines Pt. 2
News Reporter: The Quakes have subsided, aftershocks and large scale effects are still being felt. At the coast of Hong Kong, a large tsunami has struck. The two Green Lanterns were on hand but were seen falling into the water as the wave stuck. We.....we....we have been awakened and it is time to prepare. We will reclaim what is ours. Rise! Rise up! We are here! We are everywhere!
-------
Hong Kong.
Kyle: Okay! We got this!
Jessica: Yeah, but I'm soaked.
The two Lanterns held up their rings with dozens of ships above them. All had the civilians they had save from the flooding city below. The water had retacted but it was coming back for round two. This time, there was no way the buildings would survive. Anyone left in the city would surely die.
Kyle: Jessica, you need to head down and start breaking up that second wave.
Jessica: I'm already in it.
She flew down as Kyle started to make some more ships. Jessica created a construct and began to break the water down. She she was doing that, Kyle was up above doing crowd control. They had to work together for this.
-------
San Diego.
Bart: Ow.
He pushed himself up from the ground and looked around to see people starting to crowd around him. They all had glowing red eyes.
Bart:....Okay.....hi?
-------
Kyle looked at the roof of a building nearby to see a crowd of people start to crawl on top of each other.
Kyle: Okay. That's not right. Everyone step back! You need to stop this before someone gets hurt!
------
Bart: All of you step back. Please. I don't want anyone getting hurt.
One of the people reached out and grabbed his arm, hard.
------
One of the people below grabbed Kyle's ankle which almost caused him to lose focus.
-------
At the same time, both men suddenly found themselves releasing a powerful energy which stunned everyone around them. As the civilians fell to the ground, unconscious, the two men felt a sudden headache come over them before it vanished just as fast.
-----
Bart hunched over and tried to catch his breath.
Bart: Ow....
Y/N: Flash?
Bart: Batman?
Y/N: I need you in Gotham. Now. Emergency.
Bart looked around and saw everyone looking around confused.
Man: Where am I?
Woman: Is that the Flash?
Bart: The hell is going on here?
------
Jessica flew down to Kyle and helped him to his feet.
Jessica: You okay? What happened?
Kyle: Hell if I know. What about the water?
Jessica: I took care of it. You sure you're alright?
Kyle nodded as he looked around at the confused citizens. He then looked at his ring before their communications switched on.
Artemis: Guys? Anyone? It's Artemis. I need you all in the Watchtower in the next five minutes. There's something I got to show you. It can't wait.
--------
Gotham.
Bart: Batman called me in. I'll head over when I can, Artemis. Keep us in the loop.
Bart sighed as he looked around Gotham.
Bart: Just when I thought the day couldn't get any weirder.
You punched a stray bug before throwing a batarang toward the capsule.
Y/N: Flash! There's too many of them! Get as many as you can!
Bart nodded and began to race around. He grabbed every bug he could and squished them in his hand before he came to a screeching halt in front of you.
Y/N: Did you grab them?
Bart: Grabbed. You weren't going to use them for something, were you?
Y/N: I already captured a few. I'm sure A.R.G.U.S or the CDC would take them. They might like to take a look at these. I can get results when they're done.
Bart: They'll share that stuff?
Y/N: No.
Bart: Any clue on what they are?
Y/N: Some sort of biological weapon, I'd guess. It's some kind of crashed missle. We'll need to figure out where they came from and why.
Artemis: Not all that's going on. Can you two get up here now?
Bart: Yeah. We're on our way. Uh, anyone hear from Kaldur? He's been quiet.
Artemis: Nothing. No sign on Kaldur. Not since the first quakes hit.
Bart: Man. I hope he's alright.
-------
Atlantis.
Kaldur opened his eyes to the sound of music. Was that singing? It was beautiful. Charming. A harmony.
Kaldur slowly stood up and shook his head. He looked down and spotted a bunch if small crystal like designs around him. He lifted one up and examined it.
Where the stones singing? It was harsher. The harmony was gone now. The ground shook and Kaldur quickly rushed around and began to pick up the crystals. He then swam up as the structure he was standing on collapsed into the depths below.
Kaldur swam up as quickly as he could. He needed to make sure everyone was safe. Half the city was gone now. It really was like the world was falling apart.
--------
Watchtower.
Kyle: Things have calmed down, at least.
Artemis: Maybe. Not for long, though.
Everyone stood around the hologram of the earth were there were several red spots.
Artemis: When there's Earthquakes, scientists use shockwaves to get a better image of things inside the planet. Like Earyh's core. Like sonar.
The hologram switched to show a diagram of the Earth's core.
Kyle: Worldwide quakes like these aren't usual, though, are they? Normally it happens around fault lines. Like the San Andreas one in California right?
Y/N: Yeah, but here, all the fault lines became active all at once. With so many shockwaves bouncing around, we could map out the core more than ever.
Bart: Right. So, what are we looking at?
Cassie: And please explain it in terms we can all understand.
Artemis: It's the outer core of the planet.
Jessica: What are those?
Artemis: That's the question, isn't it? As far as I can tell, they're around five miles in diameter. Each one is emitting gravitational pulses that are increasing in power with each cycle. They're building to one another.
Kyle: And Earth survived the first one.
Cassie: With help.
Jessica: Right. So we just have to do it again.
Artemis: Not as simple as that. Judging by the growing shockwaves coming off these things, this is an upward cycle. It can only get worse.
Y/N: So where did it come from? Who put them there?
Artemis: No idea.
Jessica: And the people? They all seemed possessed.
Bart: That happened to you guys too?! They were talking about us stealing their powers. The hell was that about?
Cassie: They called themselves the Kindred. I think this is just the start of everything.
Bart: Wait, do you think this is all connected?
Y/N: Possibly. The timing isn't likely to be a coincidence. That thing in Gotham, whatever it was...
Kyle: Never heard if the Kindred. Is this a normal Justice Leauge thing?
Cassie: They seemed to suggest they know a lot about me.
Y/N: You think the lasso can help us?
Cassie: Possibly.
Artemis: Those things in the core are going to blow again. And bigger. We need to stop it somehow.
Bart: Could Jessica do something remotely with her ring?
Kyle: Been scanning. Found nothing.
Jessica: I doubt we can even go down there. Our rings can only protect us from so much.
Suddenly, there was an alert.
Jessica: What is that? Did I touch something?
Artemis: It's the collision alert!
You all looked out the window to see something that made all your eyes grow large. Reapers. Hundreds of them.
Bart: Well, son of a bitch!
Y/N: Everyone to the teleporters. Help in anyway you can.
Bart: What are you going to do?
You turned toward a boom tube you opened and grinned.
Y/N: I'm going to whistle.
------
Atlantis.
Kaldur swam over the ruins of the city he called home. He held the crystals in his arms as they continued singing their tune.
Someone in Atlantis has to know what these were and why they were singing.
Solider: Kaldur! We thought you died when the city collapsed.
Kaldur: I should have. I think these things saved me.
He showed them to the man whose eyes grew wide.
Soldier: The Zodiac Crystals! They were in the museum when that part of the city fell apart.
Kaldur: What's going on here? I thought you would have evacuated by now.
Soldier: We tried to.
He began to led Kaldur through the ruins.
Soldier: They began to speak of "stolen words" of words that could make worlds. And that's when it started to happen.
Kaldur: What?
Soldier: That.
Kaldur looked into the abyss to see that hundreds of Atlantians were swimming down and bonding together. They were making a human like figure. It was alive.
Kaldur: Dear gods.
-------
Metropolis.
You stood at the edge of the Daily Planet where you watched the Reapers fire off more of those missles. You watched them get shot down by familiar red lasers before you put your lips together and whistled.
Conner: Seems the world is in danger again, Batman.
Y/N: It's worse than you think. We need a job for Superman. We need the impossible.
Conner landed next to you and looked at the Reapers approach Earth.
Conner: You know I would go to hell if you told me to. What do you need me to do?
Y/N: We need you to go to the center of Earth.
