The Bat and The Orphan

You laid in your bed with a pair of headphones over your ears. Music played as you stared at the roof of the apartment during your very rare day off. No Leauge business, no invasion, no crime to fight. Just a day to relax and enjoy doing nothing. Of course, you weren't alone.

Cassandra: I like this song.

Y/N: Yeah. Me to.

She moved a bit to better lay on your chest as she listened to the music with her own pair of headphones. It took some online searching, but you did find a two way jack on Amazon. While she had her eyes close, drifting off to the music and the rhythm of your breathing, you were staring at the roof while you thought to yourself.

It had been a few days since Dick walked out of the Manor with his declaration. Even now, you didn't know where he was or what he was planning. On top of that, you had more Leauge business to take care of.

Cassandra: Y/N?

Y/N: Hmm?

Cassandra: Can we cuddle?

You looked at her confused.

Y/N: Isn't that what we're doing?

Cassandra lifted herself up enough to look down at you.

Cassandra: I know. But we still have clothes on.

Y/N: Oh. Oh.....yes, please and thank you.

Cassandra smiled as she leaned down and kissed you.
---------
Tim: What's up?

You sat down at the table of the dinner Tim and you had planned to meet at for some quality bonding time. Of course, you had tried to invite the other boys for another Broday, but it fell through due to recent events.

Y/N: Nothing much. Same old, same old. Nothing really going on but you know how that can change any moment.

Tim: Yeah. I do.

You both ordered your drinks and thr waitress wrote them down. She walked away, leaving you and Tim alone to talk.

Y/N: So, how's the new team doing?

Tim: Better. Still a bit slow. I know you guys are just picking yourselves up but, we haven't had a mission yet.

Y/N: Sorry about that, man. We haven't quite got everything together for that but....

Tim: You're working on it. I know. I'm not rushing you. Though, if you guys need help, well, we'll be there.

Y/N: And I appreciate that. Really.

The waitress returned with your drinks and set them down. She took your orders and returned to help the other tables.

Tim: How's things with the Leauge, by the way?

You shrugged.

Y/N: We just recruited another Green Lantern. On top of that, people are really giving us support. More than we were expecting.

Tim: That's definitely good. We suspected that people would be warry once they realize you guys aren't the same JL they knew.

Y/N: Yet, they're still here.

Tim nodded before he shifted in his seat.

Tim: And, uh, how are things with you and Cassandra?

You raised a brow.

Tim: It kinda came as both a surprise and an "about damn time".

Y/N: Yeah. Uh, things are going great. I mean, we're gonna go out tonight. I found this place uptown that Cassandra seemed to like.

Tim nodded while you took a sip of your drink. Tim seemed to be looking at you for a moment.

Tim: And you guys are happy?

You looked at him confused before nodding.

Y/N: Yeah. She kinda, keeps me together. After the Owls, Lincoln's death, even the Underaged Hero Law she stayed by my side. She was the first one to accept me when I came back. Honestly, I'm more angry at myself for letting this take so long.

Tim: Right. Yeah.

You shifted in your seat as you looked at him.

Y/N: You want to say something.

Tim: What? No. No, no, no. I'm happy for you two. Really.

You didn't believe him.

Tim: I'm serious. I know it might not seem like it but, you guys are my family. And I honestly think the two of you are a good fit for each other. Probably more than you think.

Y/N: What do you mean?

Tim: Well, how can I say this? You and Cassandra are, two stray bats licking each other's wounds.

You looked at him confused.

Y/N: Explain.

Tim: Alright. Let's start with Cassandra. She was raised by her crazy assassin father and taught every form of combat before she could really walk. He never spoke to her or taught her how to read or write or speak. She took her first life at the age of 8. She was on her own until Bruce found her. Her dad is David Cain, and her mother is Lady Silva. She didn't even talk until she was 17.

Y/N: Yeah. I know.

Tim: Then there's you. Someone who was ripped away from your time, trapped in the past, and then had that time erased. You have no memory of your past. You were alone and scared before you joined a band of baddies and then we pulled you back to us. Now you're the Dark Knight. See where I'm going with this?

You slowly nodded.

Tim: You and Cassandra honestly need each other. I don't know if anyone else could relate to you as well as she can. And vice versa. I know everyone has their own person they wanted you to end up with but, it was always going to be Cassandra.

It was always going to be Cassandra........how did it take this long?
-----------
Y/N: Hey.

Cassandra looked over to you from her spot on the couch. The two of you were going to go out for dinner but she had decided that you should enjoy your day off. It wasn't often you had one, after all.

Y/N: I love you.

Cassandra smiled.

Cassandra: I love you to.

Y/N: I'm, really happy you're here.

Cassandra was now a bit confused. She shuffled over so that she was next to you. She then poked your face.

Cassandra: What is wrong?

You just shook your head. Cassandra then poked your cheek again. Then again. She began to poke your cheek repeatedly which made both of you smile before you caught her hand and pulled her closer to you. You kissed her forehead and looked at her as you held her cheek.

Y/N: Nothing is wrong. Everything is, absolutely perfect. You're perfect.

Cassandra's smile faded a bit. She tried to turn away but you stopped her by placing your other hand on her other cheek.

Y/N: Don't you start that. You're wonderful and I love you.

Cassandra tried to complain but you just squished her cheeks together. You began to move your hands which earned a bit of protest from her.

Y/N: You're amazing. I won't let you put yourself down.

Cassandra grabbed your wrist and reversed the grip which freed her cheeks. Cassandra pouted before she laid her head on your chest.

Cassandra: I am not perfect.

Y/N: I'd beg to differ. You're amazing, Cassandra. You're brave, strong, smart, caring, and a complete badass. You value human life in a world where it seems no one cares.

Cassandra: I was raised by assassins. I have killed someone.

Y/N: I know. Yet, here you are. Making a difference.

You gently placed a hand under her chin and lifted her head so that she was looking at you.

Y/N: You're Cassandra Cain. And I love you.

Cassandra smiled before she leaned up and kissed you. The two of you stayed like that for a while before she pulled back and laid her head against your chest again.

Cassandra: I love you to, Y/N. Ever since I met you in the garden.

You smiled.

Y/N: Actually, everyone says we met in the cave.

Cassandra shook her head.

Cassandra: I met Y/N al Ghul in the cave. I met you in the garden.

You wrapped your arms around her and smiled.

Y/N: Yeah. I guess you're right.

Cassandra: Naked cuddling?

Y/N: Naked cuddling.

Cassandra stood up and grabbed your hand before leading you to your bedroom. She may be a killer, but she's a hero. Anyone who says otherwise, is a damn liar.
